Glenn Hauser logs January 25-26, 2020 |

Sunday, January 26 2020
** ANGUILLA. 11775, Jan 26 at 1553, dead air at S4-S5, longer than a DGS cigar-puff; presumably warming up for Sunday service, only S4-S5 and some pulse jamming bleeding under from somewhere (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 9540-9588, Jan 25 at 2333, pulse jamming centred on 9565 is splattering out to this range, as the Cubans don`t give a damn about collateral damage, pariahs on the HF bands. Something`s always wrong at the incompetent DentroCuban Jamming Command (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13604, 13673 S9, 13807 S9+10, 13875, 13942 JBA but 14009 a bit stronger and inside the ham band, Jan 25 at 2344, RHC-FM spurs out of 13740-AM, with F# tone, approx. 67-kHz intervals. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13559, 13630, 13770, 13840, 13910 approx., Jan 26 at 1524, RHC spurblobs with especially distorted audio unlistenable in any mode, unlike fundamental 13700-AM; 70-kHz intervals today. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15700, Jan 26 at 1549, CRI relay in English is S9+20 but undermodulated; sufficient once volume turned up, but beware the loudness of the next frequency. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15140, Jan 26 at 1550, RHC music is distorted while // but weaker 15230 mod is OK. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** MALI. 7295, Jan 25 at 2327, Chinese dialog S9+25; tough luck for Region 2 hAMs who favour this frequency area in their 40 mb. It`s Bamako relaying CRI at 23-24, their last transmission of the day. Even without antennas designed for N America, this could be a good replacement for defunct(?) Albanian relays; don`t give them ideas, Glenn. BTW, this same hour, HFCC has imaginary wooden registrations on 7295 for Russia and Indonesia! Hey Jeff, why don`t you clean out all this nonsense? Are certain admins so vain as to make such claims season after season hoping no one will notice? Yet real stations from many countries not buying into HFCC are overlooked (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NICARAGUA [non?]. 8989-USB, Jan 25 at 2329, S8 Spanish sermon about Cristo, the Predicador an hour later than usually reported; breaks into song just to be sure no one can mistake him for legit aero comms in their band (GLenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960, Jan 25 at 2321, VOT English to N America is silent again; thus unlikely to be any 0000 German either vs Mighty Farty KBC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2018 monitoring: tuned in 1860-AM too late at 0500 UT Sun Jan 26 when in ham news; WOR probably ran earlier in the hour; audible via Peoria IL KiwiSDR, unlike in daytime. Next: 2130 UT Sunday WRMI 7780 to NE 0130 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to NE 0230 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to NE, 9395 to NNW 0400vUT Monday WBCQ 5130v Area 51 to WSW 0430 UT Monday WRMI 9955 to SSE 0900 UT Monday Unique Radio NSW 5045-USB 0930 UT Monday Unique Radio NSW 5045-USB [another episode] 1901 UT Monday IRRS 7290 Romania? to WNW 0100 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to NE 0900 UT Wednesday Unique Radio NSW 5045-USB 2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5085, UT Sun Jan 26 at 0119, theatre organ music starts on WTWW-2 after a long string of ham news adding up to variable lengths, so woe betide any precise scheduling to follow, like on WA0RCR. I quickly switch to stereo webcast. No intro or name of program given, and Bob Heil does not speak until 0127; 0148 wrapping up before ``real music``, still no name for program since is no longer in the Ozarx, and ``Mister Sandman`` until 0151.5 switch to the real (rock) music. Oh2, must be replay of last week`s show concluding with same deprecating remark and tune, but which started circa 0100. Frankly, altho I do enjoy theater organ music, after a while it all begins to sound alike, especially in the rather limited repertory he plays (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9475, Jan 26 at 1555, WTWW-1 rarely active is on because it`s Sunday morning, non-PPPP preacher? refers to off-topic Hong Kong schools being closed, so maybe current, rather than a decade old SFAW (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5970, Jan 26 at 0727, WEWN is in Spanish, rather than last night`s anomaly of English. Some QRM from jamming spreadleaking out of 5980 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 5454-USB, Jan 25 at 2319, 2-way conversation in Spanish, sounds like typical intruders, not legit aero comms as on this band (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 9380.42, Jan 26 at 1556-1600+, open carrier S1 with some fading so not local device; only thing on 9380 anywhen is AIR Aligarh, at 1230-1745 per HFCC, Vividh Bharati at 1245-1740 per EiBi and VU2JOS, 1245-1745 per Aoki, but unlikely to be so far off? altho no sign of it on exact frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 9896-USB, Jan 25 at 2337, 2-way in Spanish INTRUDERS, battling the 500 kW AM signal on 9900 from China (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 10050.5-USB, Jan 25 at 2338, 2-way in Spanish INTRUDERS, which would QRM Gander VOLMET on 10051-USB, but unheard at the moment (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 15111-USB, Jan 25 at 1551, 2-way in colloquial Spanish, discussing puta, INTRUDERS (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 1945 UT January 26

Saturday, January 25 2020
** CUBA. 13838, 13769, 13631, 13562, 13492 approx., Jan 25 at 1439, spurblobs out of 13700-AM. No intelligible programodulation except a trace of music & talk on 13769. If they are going to spray all over the band, least they could do would be to make them listenable in the FM mode. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** KOREA SOUTH. 1566, Jan 25 at 1348, JBA carrier looping NW, so FEBC Jeju again seems no longer to be making beamswitch by 1345 from Japanese to Chinese; is there no longer a language change either? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SCOTLAND [non]. 9350, Sat Jan 25 at 2145, usual VG non-squealy signal from this WWCR during `Encore` classical music hour from Radio Tumbril. Playlist for 25/1 is already up: https://www.tumbril.co.uk/playlists Now must be the Paul Hillier, penultimately. Otherwise occupied now, I`ll try to catch the full hour repeat UT Monday at 0100-0200 on WBCQ when surely I will have to hear 7490v via webcast only (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7341-USB, Sat Jan 25 at 1517 obviously a Civil Air Patrol net from the colourful tactical calls, checkins seemingly managed by YL NCS Starfish 39, but does not always give own call, rather trying to copy and utter calls of others, often unsuccessful without a relay even when I can hear them; such as: Tornado 41, Red Cloud 13, Bluebird 29, etc., etc. Up against 7340-AM RHC, but so weak here not a problem, altho could be further east and/or south. By their prefixes, these four must respectively emit from Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska and Missouri, but individual call identities are surely top-secret. Each transmission ends with auto-beep, no overing required. BTW, the paramilitary CAP has been recruiting in the Enid area: https://www.enidnews.com/news/local_news/civil-air-patrol-seeking-new-members-youth-and-adult-in/article_73a29f81-5fa6-5b14-a375-af16c4a88a08.html Strangely enough, nothing is said in this long article about playing radio. I think unlike MARS, you don`t have to be a ham for starters (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2018 monitoring: Ivo Ivanov, Bulgaria reports: ``Fair signal of World of Radio #2018 and Shortwave Radiogram #136 on January 25: 1300-1330 on 15770 RMI 100 kW / 044 deg to WeEu English Sat World of Radio#2018 and 1330-1400 on 15770 RMI 100 kW / 044 deg to WeEu English Sat Shortwave Radiogram #136``. Around 2100 UT I check numerous KiwiSDRs in eastern USA for 1860 WA0RCR with WOR, but not a bit of it, even in Illinois. Last night I was hearing heavy CW mostly below 1860, so another contest will likely still be a QRM problem for Next: 0400vUT Sunday WA0RCR 1860-AM [nominal 0415] 2130 UT Sunday WRMI 7780 to NE 0130 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to NE 0230 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to NE, 9395 to NNW 0400vUT Monday WBCQ 5130v Area 51 to WSW 0430 UT Monday WRMI 9955 to SSE 0900 UT Monday Unique Radio NSW 5045-USB 0930 UT Monday Unique Radio NSW 5045-USB [another episode] 1901 UT Monday IRRS 7290 Romania? to WNW 0100 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to NE 0900 UT Wednesday Unique Radio NSW 5045-USB 2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. John Carver replies to my WBCQ 7490v AAAWWW report Jan 25: ``Glenn, In reference to your comment about the novelty tune before AAWWW started. That originated with TimTron and is played when there is a problem with his internet feed connecting. I don't know how it is triggered as if his feed isn't connecting he can't send anything. At any rate it is a snippet of some sort of ethnic music folk song done by a youngish female that Tim has slowed down to sound as it does. Could be Hungarian or Gypsy or something. At any rate it's quite familiar to listeners of Area 51. Several years ago I heard it played one time at normal speed on Area 51 and immediately recognized it. I wrote to Larry Will and asked about it. He replied with the story behind it and gave me a Wiki link to the story behind the tune and if I remember correctly it contained a link to the actual tune at normal speed. When I was finally able to boot the computer today I did a search through the headers of every message Larry has sent me since sometime in 2010 and couldn't find it based upon the subjects listed in the headers. I'm sure it's in there and someday I will go through and read every damn message but not till it's warmer in here. If you're really curious I suppose you could ask Larry Will if he remembers. Sorry I could only give you a partial answer. I so wanted to send you the Wiki link so you could read it and possibly listen to the original. John`` Try searching on keywords like Hungarian, Gypsy, ethnic (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5970, Jan 25 at 0644, surprised to hear WEWN in English instead of Spanish --- not a momentary translation, but discussion of RCC politix. Earlier at 0224 I had a very weak signal on 5970, but could not be sure it were WEWN at all. What about 9385 which is supposed to be the overnight English channel? NO signal at 0645, but could be on and not propagating. So is this another mistake, or a major change? WEWN SW is so insignificant that it`s hard to find anything about it on the EWTN website. But from our WOR Hitlist we get: a program sked which will not load: https://www.ewtn.com/radio/download/Shortwave_Grid.pdf This one https://www.ewtn.com/radio/frequency-guide is all in English including the Cuba/Latin America 12050 and 5970 frequencies, so looking at this you would never know they were ever in Spanish! For B-19, until March 29, 2020, it shows 15610 at 1900-2400 and 9385 at 0000-0900 both for W&CAf at 85 degrees and Beijing at 335 degrees: note, these are not 180 degrees opposite, so one transmitter split into two antennas, or two transmitters? Does the BJ beam apply only to 9385 hours? That is ambiguous as displayed. Latest HFCC as of Jan 20 shows both 00-09 9385 and 19-24 15610 on African 85-degree azimuth only; 12050 at 14-24 on 155 degrees, splitting difference between the claimed 150 and 160 on 5970. It also shows 11520 at 00-09 but we know that`s imaginary, alternative to 9385 but which was used in A-19. 9470 is also listed at 09-14, only this one really aimed toward China, prime time there but is it more propagable? and which Ivo has been observing as AWOL, not appearing on WEWN`s own schedule. The true azimuth of Beijing from Vandiver is more like 344 degrees! But 335 does cross eastern China, if the signal last over a very long and difficult near-polar path, which no one setting up a SW station in Alabama should have considered viable. In fact, I think reaching Asia from there was an afterthought, not an original target. To Cuba/Latin America, 160 degrees at 00-14 on 5970; at 14-24, 150 degrees at 14-24. What`s the point of a 10-degree difference in azimuth? 150 is aimed to eastern Cuba and across S America exiting near Porto Alegre, Brasil. 160 is aimed to western Cuba and across the Andes, exiting S America between Mar del Plata and Bahia Blanca, Argentina. So has 12050 switched to English too as implied on the sked? It`s JBA Jan 25 at 1744 check, can`t tell language. Well audible at Bogotá SDR and yes, still in Spanish with rote rosary. Never mind JC; Do Mary or God ever tire of hearing that? Why not? Do they monitor RCM in particular for self-gratification, or avoid it? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. Jan 25 from 15 to 17 UT, I can`t help but notice that the big four commercial TV broadcast networx, ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox, as via their OKC affiliates, are all broadcasting live the Republican side of the Trump Trial --- which they were NOT doing the previous days from the Democrats! Leaving that who-cares to PBS and cable networx. Not in daytime and certainly not in primetime! We shall see what happen on Monday daytime when acting president Drumpf`s liars get down to business. Of course, regular network programming on Saturday mornings is more dispensable, mostly E/I stuff for kids and nature enthusiasts (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. Sigh - another typo correxion to one of the frequencies: 783, of course, not 782; fixed: Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, Jan 25 at 0251-0259: 531, 549, 576, 612, 621(2), 639, 693, 711, 774(2), 783, 819, 837(2), 855(2), 882*, 891, 909, 999, 1026, 1053, 1089, 1098, 1107, 1116, 1125, 1215(2), 1305, 1341, 1413(2), 1575. *882 strongest with some audio, singing, probably BBC Wales. (2) = at least two carriers beating (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 6990-LSB, Jan 25 at 1437, 2-way net in language, sometimes melodic, maybe Indonesian, like we used to hear when 11.4-11.5 MHz propagated; this frequency was also occupied at earlier times by a closer performer with prolonged aaaahhhhhs, guessing Japanese as last reported a year ago in http://w4uvh.net/dxld1903.txt Also heard a bit of that this time (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report despatched at 2159 UT January 25

** ARGENTINA [non]. 5800, Jan 25 at 0152, surprised to hear English on WRMI instead of RAE Spanish, which I had not checked earlier to confirm from 0100; and the English is SMTV! What`s it doing here now? Supposed to run 2100-0100 only on 5800, skedgrid still showing RAE at 01-02. Perhaps like last week we shall have another chance to hear actualidaddx.com.ar 48 hours later on UT Monday. SMTV is also on 5950 at 0223 check about animal welfare in Canada, Costa Rica, alfabetically. 5800 off at 0200, and 9395 then a JBA carrier when RAE should run in English (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 4748 & 4782 approx., Jan 25 at 0236, wide spurblobs +/- ~17 kHz out of 4765 Radio Progreso which itself is overmodulated / distorted at S9+30. In FM mode tuning the spurs, there is a trace of the music as on 4765. Both spurs are QRMing CODAR! Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** IRAN. 6090, Jan 25 at 0123, seems Spanish, ME music, VP, i.e. VIRI as scheduled 2350-0250; EiBi shows one //, 7230, but only the first sesquihour to 0120, so too late to check that as confirmation. Anguilla off tonight, and no sign of Brazuguese, defunct Radio Bandeirantes. By 0225 recheck, VP but definitely in Spanish. Cuts off the air at 0250:15.5* as scheduled (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 88.1, Jan 24 at 1520 UT, as I am trying to listen to KWOU from Woodward, instead hear Oasis Network with echo, so not only the closest, KMSI Moore 0/50 kW vertical only, but also KDMI Coweta-Tulsa, 100/100 kW. The WTFDA FM Database does not show that these two are // and both relaying KNYD 90.5, altho both with Oasis Network. KMSI alone is the usual nemesis for KWOU. No significant tropo on the map (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960, UT Sat Jan 25 at 0017, VOT is still on, in German bonus broadcast; if unlikely to happen two nights in a row, maybe KBC will be unscathed 24 hours later from Germany (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2018 monitoring: confirmed first Northern/Western Hemisphere SWBC, Friday January 24 at 2300 on WRMI 9955, vs heavy Cuban jamming: it varies some with WRMI fading up to better audibility but jamming does not fully abate; by 2326 we are fairly audible. Meanwhile this week I quickly check a bunch of KiwiSDRs, to find out how bad the situation is elsewhere; Chile & Uruguay: JBA without much jamming; Buenos Aires: fair but noisy; Pardinho/SP Brasil: F-G over jamming; Bogotá VG with no jamming audible --- should be best on the azimuth at first hop; Rockport, Maine: VG at WA2ZKD/1, the only N American one checked, certainly better than here: no signal in South Africa, Australia or China; Europe unchecked since plenty of other opportunities there later on 7780 or 15770; or 7290. WOR 2018 also confirmed UT Saturday January 25 at 0130 via UTwente SDR: 7780 good; 5850 JBA; 5010 zilch; here: 7780 poor S8-S9; 5850 S9+30; 5010 S8-S9+10 but sounds much weaker than 5850. Next: 1300 UT Saturday WRMI 15770 to NE 2030vUT Saturday WA0RCR 1860-AM 0400vUT Sunday WA0RCR 1860-AM [nominal 0415] 2130 UT Sunday WRMI 7780 to NE 0130 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to NE 0230 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to NE, 9395 to NNW 0400vUT Monday WBCQ 5130v Area 51 to WSW 0430 UT Monday WRMI 9955 to SSE 0900 UT Monday Unique Radio NSW 5045-USB 0930 UT Monday Unique Radio NSW 5045-USB [another episode] 1901 UT Monday IRRS 7290 Romania? to WNW 0100 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to NE 0900 UT Wednesday Unique Radio NSW 5045-USB 2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5850, Jan 25 at 0200 right after WOR, WRMI with VORW, John Jurasek explaining that he`s recovering from dental work so running some repeat shows; like I heard one recently, admittedly months old. See also ARGENTINA [non] (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7490.2v, UT Sat Jan 25 at 0100, WBCQ ID interrupts FKB gospel huxter, but instead of WTO, a couple minutes of novelty nonsense singing; then 0102 WBCQ canned ID again, and WTO theme, but no A&A again this week, rather TimTron substituting from 0103 confirming off the bat that this is live on Jan 24, YOOL 2020; wish AW would do that instead of burying the date somewhere in the middle. Says this is on 7490 (only), using his own microphonium from the secret squirrel studio in Skow-town; says something flu-like has been infesting WBCQ staff at Monticello, and he himself feels unwell, hope not resurgence of Lyme disease; then into death of Bigelow-chat. Over to John Carver for a fuller report: ``No readable signal tonight on 7490. Program started two minutes late on 5130 and was hosted by TimTron. Tim said they were only broadcasting on 7490 but I'm listening on 5130. Said he was asked to host the show last weekend but wasn't feeling up to it. Is fearful that his Lyme disease is flaring up. Mourning the death of his neighbor's cat that he dealt with since at least 2002. He played a song that his wife, Marcie, wrote about the cat. He did say that the part on the SS transmitter that broke has been removed and sent to the manufacturer to be inspected. He also talked about the 7490 transmitter and the problems they've had with it. A problem with the blower and the blower switch and the blower interlock. I can only copy 7490 here in the afternoons and it's usually gone by 2300 to 2330 hours. Major repairs will have to wait till warm weather and Tim feeling better. Then into some music. Some talk about the state of propagation as there was last week. Consensus was the same as last week, dismal. He did state that 5130 was about the only frequency that worked reasonably well in these conditions. Then a plea for people to create a show and get on the air at WBCQ. Then into some more music. At 0155 the nonstop top of the hour IDs started once again and continued to the top of the hour. I have mentioned this twice to people at the station and the last time Allan was on the air doing this program Pirate Joe mentioned it to him also. John, Mid-North Indiana`` I do check at 0133 to find 5130 is on with music like 7490+ ATM, but VP. Cursory confirmation of no sigs from other WBCQs: 9330, 6160v, 3265v (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. 1090, Jan 24 at 0702 UT, ToH dead air from KAAY LR causes minimal interference to XEAU Monterrey in Spanish, and almost 800 kW from 1089 Talksport UK het. 1090, Jan 25 at 0301.5 UT, ``AM 1090 KAAY`` illegal ID and dead air until gospel music resume at 0305.0; meanwhile nothing but XEAU and 1089 UK het can be heard. So does KAAY provide a dead air news hole at top of every hour? And no one cares or notices at 700 Wellington Hills Road (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, Jan 24 from 0702 after hearing a big het on 1090 KAAY from 1089 UK: 1098, 1107, 1116, 1125, 1215, 1305(2); 1053, 1044, 909, 891, 774(2), 693 -- but none lower as sunrise is nigh across W Europe and this fadeout will of course become earlier and earlier (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. ** ARGENTINA [non]. 5800, Jan 23 at 0100, RAE AAM, via WRMI runs OK; 0126 rock music but it`s Spanish and still RAE with 0130 multi-lingual IDs, then conversation with an Argentine who went to Thailand.
Next night, UT Jan 24 I am listening to the second half to assure it air intact; seems so: 0129 talk about the FSLN; 0130 multi-lingual ID, then `Géneros y Diversidad` about sexism in sports; 0147 multi-ID again, chat about 23 de enero being some national day; 0151 headlines and ``Piano Man`` --- no sign-off heard, but this music may have been filler from WRMI; another song until 0159 WRMI ID and off at 0200* sharp. 9395, then should follow RAE ATTW in English, but it`s a JBA carrier as often the case after dark, altho sometimes recovers later at night when TOMBS is on. How about putting RAE English on reliably propagable 5800 instead --- plus Tirana at 0230? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** BRAZIL [non]. 6090, Jan 23 at 2350, a weak signal here presumed Iran in Spanish as scheduled; *2356 open carrier from ANGUILLA making a fast SAH atop the other, and shortly after 0000 Jan 24, join Dead Gene Scott in progress, without a sign-on, let alone an ID, which *never* come out of what is listed as The Caribbean Beacon. By then it sounds like Qur`an and ME music underneath. I`m checking this because someone has just reported hearing Rádio Bandeirantes on 6090 last night, ``at 0120 in Portuguese with an excited male preacher``. That station has been gone from SW for over a year, thought to be forever. 6090 and its other frequency 9645 were deleted from WRTH 2019 already and still absent in 2020. Yet it survives on the Aoki list, which is full of defunct Latin American stations, leading some to expect still to hear them. And this mis-info is likely copied into other SW schedule aggregators. All I ever get on 6090 evenings when Anguilla is absent (most of them), is Iran in Spanish which is scheduled all the way from 2350 to 0250. Tonight I am hearing two stations, not three, but check on a non-Anguilla night just to be absolutely sure. If you can`t get an Iran ID or tell Spanish from Portuguese, maybe catch the odd closing time of 0250? It should be noted that last February, a ``Radio Livre Bandeirantes`` was reported from Brasil on 6090, an unrelated low-power pirate. If still active, hearing it here vs Anguilla and/or Iran is extremely unlikely (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** BRAZIL. 9666.553V, Jan 24 at 0043, Voz Missionária is S7-S9 in Brazuguese preaching as it continues to wander back down toward nominal 9665, after last caught Jan 19 way up on 9667.478. As I listen it is slightly unstable (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CANADA. 406-MCW kHz, Jan 23 at 0711 UT, dash and YLJ ND beacon, which is 40 watts from Meadow Lake, Sask., and the only one listed on this frequency, a clear-channel! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. Time and date were omitted from this item; added: 13568, 13634, 13767, 13834, 13901, 13967, 14033, 14100-trace, approx., 1527 UT Jan 19, spurblobs out of RHC 13700, readable both in FM and AM but not SSB, and with the F# tone in FM, progressively weaker toward the outskirts where only the tone may giveaway. Now intruding into 20m hamband where maybe some of them will notice and complain; to CO2KK? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 6099.6 & 6100.4 approx., Jan 23 at 0657, RHC English S9+40 on mushy 6100 plus squealspurs about 400 Hz above and below. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** CUBA. 13906, 13838, 13769, 13631, 13562, 13493, 13423, Jan 23 at 1519, FM>AM spurblobs out of RHC 13700, weaker and weaker toward the outskirts, approx 69 kHz intervals. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15140, Jan 23 at 1819, RHC in Portuguese? Distorted and overmodulated; then announcer in real Spanish. May have been a clip from a Brazilian trying to speak Spanish = Espanhuguês. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SOLOMON ISLANDS. 9545, Jan 23 at 0450, JBA carrier, presumed SIBC since it cut off at 0500:07*; doubt I will ever get more than this from it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. Jan 24 at 0216+ UT, I quickly scan the entire MW band, and hear not a single station broadcasting live coverage of something rather important in the US Senate! Not even talk stations whose format would be disrupted the least, but most of them are secretly if not overtly controlled by the Far Right, as obvious from their entire daily schedules. And golly, how are you going to fit in 20+ minutes of commercials an hour? Somehow, major cable TV networks manage to do it. But radio listeners should also be able to hear the Trump Trial. How about FM, public radio? KOSU has been airing from NPR the first parts in the afternoons, but not in evening prime-time, still owned by sub-station The Spy with OK/indie music, far too vital to pre-empt. So The Spy wags the rest of KOSU. I also know better than even bother to check US SW stations --- No public service sentiment there! Just leave Brother Scare all over the dial (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. Just noticed a typo 12 days later to this report before anyone else bring it to my attention. In the frequency list should read 1017, not 2017 kHz; fixed: Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search Jan 12 at 0006-0013 UT: 531* strongest; 558(2), 576, 585, 639, 657, 693(2), 711, 729, 738, 774(2), 801, 819, 837, 855, 882, 891, 909, 936(2), 999, 1008, 1017, 1044, 1089, 1098, 1107(2), 1125(2), 1152, 1179, 1215(2), 1296, 1305(2), 1422, 1485, 1539 kHz (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0417 UT January 24

Glenn Hauser logs January +21-22, 2020 |

Wednesday, January 22 2020
** ARGENTINA [non]. 5800, Jan 22 at 0100, RAE AAM vamp theme and opening Spanish, 0102 into news, so this WRMI relay off to a good start. Not rechecked until 0153 however when fill music, Oldies is already playing, so unknown how much of the 54? minute program axually played (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 15370, Jan 21 at 2035, RHC in Brazuguese, fair S9 but distorted. This semihour is supposed to be in French with BB not until 2100, so whatlang then? Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13670 & 13811 & 13881 & 13598 approx., Jan 22 at 2314, FM/AM spurblobs out of RHC tarde transmitter 13740, the closer ones S9+10. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15140, Jan 22 at 1556, RHC is suptorted; 15230 is weaker but better modulated. By 1820, 15140 is so suptorted I cannot be sure of language; only by comparing to 11760 is it Spanish as scheduled. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KOREA SOUTH [and non]. From a few km away, Richard Allan, IRCA independently matched my obs of January 20 under UNIDENTIFIED about 1566 being heard beyond 1345 UT: ``Oklahoma TP DX 1/20/2020 Richard Allen Jan 20 #5927 --- Like yesterday, only HLAZ provided any audible signal again this morning. 828 JOBB? weak het at 1330. 972 HLCA? carrier signal at 1320; still heard at 1358. 1566 HLAZ trace of a signal noted at 1319; barely audible talking at 1320 and 1332; poor signal from 1341 until close of Japanese broadcast at 1344 (LSR 1339). Surprisingly heard with barely audible signal at 1348 deteriorating to a trace by 1355-1400. Receiver: Skywave with ALA1530LNP aerial. Richard Allen, near Perry OK USA`` DXers in NW USA/SW Canada also reported that was a banner day for TP MWDX which they were still getting a bihour later (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960, Jan 21 at 2356:47, VOT IS still playing and now starts German IDs twice a minute; 0000:02 Jan 22, timesignal ending two seconds late and into spurious German hour. Something`s always wrong at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 245-MCW kHz, Jan 22 at 0709 UT, ND beacon FS, which is 400 watts from Sioux Falls - Rock, South Dakota. I heard it first, tuned to 243-USB, where it seems not a single station is listed by dxinfocentre.com nor at classaxe.com. 329-MCW kHz, Jan 22 at 0717, ND beacon PMV, which is 25 watts from Plattsmouth, Nebraska (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 6159.875v, Jan 21 at 2312, WBCQ-4 is off again, after continuous(?) for a couple days with Brother Scare, so was a test? Never appeared on WBCQ or TOM skeds. But this twit from AW: ``Allan Weiner @AllanWBCQ · Jan 20 Hey. 6160 khz on the air 24/7 testing. Please listen. Reception reports to wbcq@wbcq.com. It’s your shortwave - do use it folks. Cold at the transmitter. Cold in FLA. Here doing RF research. Fun. 😎`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [non]. 9330, Jan 22 at 0658, big carrier S9+20/30 with some hum, NOT WBCQ coming back, but Cuban spynumbers about to start as scheduled 4 nights a week at 0700. Yes, WBCQ still AWOL later in the day by 1845; how much longer? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5830, Jan 21 at 2048, WTWW-1 night frequency is on in the daytime with PPPP. Continued on air whenever checked into evening, and still at 0648 Jan 22, S9+10 but undermodulated. 5085, Jan 21 at 2048, WTWW-2 night frequency is also on in the daytime, but open carrier S9+20, even stronger than 5830. Parasitic spurs are also JBA carriers circa 5072.1 & 5097.9. 5085 still on with dead air at 2110, 2208, 2354, why such a waste of watts? Probably started modulation circa 0200 as usual. At 1845 UT Jan 22, neither is on the air again, yet? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5890, Jan 22 at 0408, WWCR-4 is S9+20 of dead air during the abbreviated 03-05 UT Tue-Sat block it`s supposed to be on plus modulating. By 0433 the Worship show can be heard. 0648 still on with dead air, having failed to turn off the transmitter at 0500 as seems to happen one or two nights per week (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1090, Jan 22 at 0703 UT as I tune in, KAAY Little Rock ID and into its ToH dead air, presumably for another 2 or 3 minutes as usual. Someone else reported DA atop another hour, 0400 UT. It seems multi-station owner Cumulus is incapable of running this to minimal expectations (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 1857 UT January 22
