More correxions, unfortunately; or rather fortunately, fixing times:

** TURKEY [and non]. 5960, Jan 24 at 2300, no signal direct from VOT English to
North America, so I may listen to Spain and WEZL. But never give up?
Recheck at 2346, now it`s on S9/+10, but music just barely modulated.
So that`s the defective transmitter they have chosen to run today.
Something`s always erroneous at Emirler. At 2356 I can recognize the
JBM IS, and ID interruptions in German; 2400 timesignal 2 seconds
later than WWV, and opening German, spurious unscheduled broadcast, no
telling for how long. Something`s doubly erroneous at Emirler. [...]

Logs
** EGYPT. 9899.605, Jan 24 at 2108, R. Cairo, S9+30 of nothing but
some hum into UTwente; by 2115 some occasional clix but no English
program modulation.

9899.605, Jan 25 at 2219, 25 hours later this time with extreme
unreadable distortion, not even obviously English, sounds like rubbing
a balloon. At least the off-frequency has been quite stable from night
to night. Off by 2245, so the SDR produces random tones among the
noise. What more can be said about this saduation?

Zach Liangas and Harold Frodge reported Cairo also distorted before
2100 for the French broadcast on 9884.6. What about Portuguese
scheduled to overlap from 2215 to 2330 on 9545? Also Abis but would
have to be a second transmitter. AFAIK this has not been reported in a
long time, nor the following imaginaries, 2330-0045 Arabic on 9730,
0045-0200 Spanish on 9900, all three for S America (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** GERMANY [non]. 15685, Jan 25 at 1547, S8/S9+10 sounds like German,
so it can`t be DWelle --- but listed as MALgache from AWR Talata,
MADABASCAR relay! Oops, MAL there stands for Malayalam, which is a
language in India, not Malaysia; as on page 499, WRTH 2022 under where
else, Thailand. Up the dial, 15770 definitely in German, so can`t be
DW either: WRMI must be a segment in the multilingual SMTV, which EiBi
and Aoki both imagine be all-English, which seems to be the default
for programmers such as SMTV, too lazy to be explicit (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** KURDISTAN [non]. 11530, Jan 25 at 1550, ME music S6-S9, two
carriers slightly apart, obvious double-het with offset USB tuning to
11529, i.e. Turkish jammer and Dengê Welat, but which is atop? Aoki
ignores the jammer but shows D.W. site switch from PRIDNESTROVYE to
FRANCE at 1500; EiBi says the change is at 1700! And also shows
Turkish jammer for entire span 0600-1900 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6925-USB, Jan 24 at 2257, pirate music S8-S9,
``trance``? At first I thought it was AM, but the temporary
``carrier`` must have been some drone in the music. I bet it`s not
RCW, Chile, allegedly active around this daypart on this bandpart.
However, switching to LSB, I can hear some weak talk mixing with
remnants of the music beat. Off at 2306? No, just a pause, more music.
I`m in and out checking other stuff and never catch a voice
announcement, but 2312 SSTV beepery, a quick CW message my brain
doesn`t switch gear into in time, but it starts with WE---; more SSTV
to 2314.6*; *2315 songs, 2327 chopped and then another. Not recheck
until 2347 on other receiver and now it seems really off. These
confirm it`s WEZL and with an intriguing high-quality image:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,92102.0.html
Presumably unrelated to the licensed WEZL, 100 kW on 103.5 FM in
Charleston SC since 1971y. So much for pirates avoiding real callsigns
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** PERU. 4810, Jan 25 at 0721, not even a JBA carrier, which was about
all I could get from R. Logos, nor for the past triple weeks in
bandscans, last logged here during this hour on Jan 1 & 4. Of course
it could still be on at other dayparts, not overnight. Last logs I
find of it were Jan 11 by LOB in Brasil, Jan 13-14 by Wilkner, FL,
both circa 0000 UT (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Jan 24 at 2300, REE token English opens with Justin
Coe preview including Amy Egan with Spanish idioms and expressions:
that should be interesting; starts at 2308 after the news. Tho
S9+15/25 on the meter, reception is not at all clear and I can`t
follow it, anyway lasting only until 2311 before back to Justin to
interview someone who has just returned from UKOGBANI (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** TURKEY.
At 2256 I can recognize the
JBM IS, and ID interruptions in German; 2300 timesignal 2 seconds
later than WWV, and opening German, spurious unscheduled broadcast, no
telling for how long. Something`s doubly erroneous at Emirler.

6125, Jan 25 at 0430, final repeat of VOT English to us is also JBM,
useless despite S9/+10. Triply erroneous.

5960, Jan 25 at 2300-2309+, NO signal into UTwente, after BBC Oman
closed at 2259.5. Who knows whether VOT will eventually wake up and/or
modulate decently. At *2311 East Turkistan, land of genocide against
Uighurs and other Moslems, cuts on Mandarin in progress and in the
clear (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Re 198 kHz, DI_W: a reply Jan 24 at 2147 UT: ``Hi Glenn!
Several posts today on ndblist@groups.io indicate that DIW-198 was
again keying properly. Steve Howe, Saint Albans, VT`` (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2122 monitoring, next:
2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [jammed?]
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW

Glenn Hauser logs January 23-24, 2022, follow-ups  View Printable Version

Logs
** AUSTRALIA. (5035-USB), Jen replies to my reply about C.A.R.N.:

``[WOR] C.A.R.N. Correct stream & Pod --- I am sorry if for some
reason the wrong stream was working: I was testing at 1830 UT to ten
minutes before Live Cast begins: then at 1900 UT, GB gave me the OK to
go live: The following are first the live stream of Unique Radio:
http://uk4-vn.mixstream.net:8104/index.html?sid=1
The pod is here:
https://www.podomatic.com/podcasts/uniqueradioaus

From now on, I will include the above info whenever I send out in WOR
& N.A.S.W.A. or any other platform. So you can Listen to the cast ---
live or in the pod. Again, if this has caused grief, then I apologize:
to all who have tried to tune in. From Unique Radio & C.A.R.N staff,
73" & YL 33"`` (via Glenn Hauser, WOR)

** CUBA. Correxion: typo 4883 instead of 4783, fixed:
4747 & 4783 approx., Jan 20 at 0212, loud wideband scratchy
spurblobs out of 4765 R. Progreso, into Colombia SDR worse than heard
here before, but all cut off air at 0213* Something`s always wrong at
RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11760, Jan 24 at 1553, RHC #1 legacy frequency is S9+10/20 of
dead air. Something`s always wrong at RHC. More or less nominal at
widely varying strength and modulation levels on 15230, 15140, 13700,
9710, 9535 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. Re: 6925 AM PIRATE (NORTH AMERICA) Jan 22 at 2308,
rock at S8-S9, 2309 English talk with background noise, ``-- Dog?
Radio``, ``if you don`t like it, tune your radio to a different
frequency``. Hmmm, hadn`t thought of that. Bet it`s not RCW Chile, a
prime time for it nor on 7610. These say it`s Goatherder Radio, a
Zekey station:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,91989.0.html
(Hauser, OK, via NASWA Flashsheet)

But about an hour later, this correlates better with my ``Dog`` log:

``6925 USB PIRATE (No. Am.) Small Dog Radio, 0017, 1.23.22. "Back to
origin" - periodic OTHR blasts throughout song, SSTV - late start
(fuzzy dog with sun glasses), "Fuzz soup"- both by Mud Spencer, "KONG
(Killing our natural gender) using “10 little Monkeys jumping on the
bed" - Samssun, woman ID, Off (Mark Taylor – WI, ibid.)

** SPAIN. On Fri, Jan 21, 2022 at 06:50 PM, Glenn Hauser wrote:

``Göbbels gave fascists in Spain a 20 kW Telefunken transmitter in
1936 first installed in Salamanca, then moved somewhere else, and
finally to Madrid with Franco`s victory in 1939; but WTFK??``

``1095 kHz or about 274 metres -- eventually. According to "The First
Radio War: Broadcasting in the Spanish Civil War, 1936-1939" by Alan
Davies (an interesting article but behind a paywall except for some
universities):

"When the mobile transmitter was first commissioned, it had problems
finding a clear frequency as all the internationally agreed channels
were already allocated. After using the wavelengths of various low
powered Republican transmitters, Radio Nacional officially 'settled'
on the channel of the principal 10 kW station in Madrid, Unión Radio,
EAJ-7." -- (Richard Langley``, WOR iog)

** TURKEY. 17720+, Jan 24 at 1547, JBA carrier obviously off
frequency, not measured but less than 100 Hz. As in Aoki, has to be V
of Turkey this hour only in Arabic. Something`s always erroneous at
Emirler. Hardly anything else on 16 mb, except 17630, 17660, 17830 JBA
signals or carriers (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Re 198 kHz, Reply to my latest report of DI W:
``It's assumed 198 DIW is on the standby transmitter, with its "DI W"
distinctive sound of its ident. It's done this now and then over the
past several years, in fact it was completely off the air for almost a
year before it finally got fixed and back on. If Vernon the RNA Editor
noted every such occurrence, he'd soon get tired of doing that, so in
this particular case has done nothing to the RNA entry. :) 73,
Steve AA7U (veteran NDB DXer since the 1980s) Ratzlaff``

OK, no big deal but without documenting every single span, a general
note about this like yours would be helpful (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 420 MCW kHz, Jan 24 at 0710 UT, FQ, 25 watt ND beacon at
Fairmont MN, one of my ``regulars`` audible again, far enough from the
local noise peak just below 400 kHz. Also could make out 407 kHz, HRU
in Kansas, but not anything around 395 which I know exist. Noise
gradually tapers off downward to 350 kHz (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2122 monitoring: confirmed Sunday January 23
at 2100 on AM Italia, 1323 kHz only, via Noale SDR, good over CCI
causing a slight fast SAH. Did not have a chance to recheck whether it
played to 2129 conclusion, unlike truncation last week.

Confirmed Sunday January 23 at 2330 on WRMI 5950, VG S9+35 into
Knoxville SDR.

Also confirmed UT Mon Jan 24 at 0030 on WRMI 7730, S9+20 into Missouri
SDR.

NOT confirmed UT Mon Jan 24 at 0130 on WRMI 9395, replaced without
notice by some ham radio show at 01-02 also on 5950. WRMI program sked
grid continues to claim 9395 shows during this hour are also on 9455,
NOT the case.

Confirmed UT Mon Jan 24 at 0230 on WRN North America webcast.

Confirmed UT Mon Jan 24 at 0402 tune-in already underway on Area 51
via WBCQ 6159.950, S6-S9 direct. Next:

2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [jammed?]
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts:

Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary
support. Thanks this week to Moises Corilloclla, Rego Park NY, for a
check on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702

One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds to:
woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15770, Jan 23 at 2010, this WRMI is quite undermodulated, on
the Maine SDR compared to just as big sigs from 15825 WWCR, 15610 WEWN
--- the latter with its persistent squeal. 15770 not making it at all
to UTwente, Euro target at 44 degrees! January 24 at 1550, 15770 is
still just barely modulated, presumably SMTV, S9+10 direct (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1130 kHz, Jan 24 at 1545 UT check, KLEY Wellington KS is
*still* dead air, S9+20 semi-local groundwave, also 24 hours vs KWKH
at night. I find it remarkable that no DX editors seem to be
interested in this incredible situation. If KLEY are not interested in
// 100.3 translator, might as well run continuous IDs as a DX test on
1130, ha. It could still be DXed from afar and logged as carrier only
if DFed to Wellington. 250 W day power (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 2097.3 CW, Jan 24 at 0707 UT, single-letter beacon A
every dekasecond, from anywhere but Quartzsite AZ. Also run across a
number of times lately without logging for the record; programming is
a bit boring and inadequate. It will be news if during good condx it
not be heard again. Quite weak but sufficient (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
