Glenn Hauser logs January 9-10-11, 2022  View Printable Version
Tuesday, January 11 2022

Logs
** CUBA. 12000, Jan 10 at 0702, RHC English is S1 JBA on 2 x 6000, //
9700 much stronger; at 0712, 6100 is still on but S7-S9 of humbuzz
only. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 5960, Jan 10 at 2337, JBA carrier only direct:
must be EAST TURKISTAN, rather than AWOL VOT English: yes, since at
2346 recheck, undermodulated music at S9+10/20 from Turkey on late or
intermittently. One more check, this time via remote in Maryland, at
2354: S5-S6, and the TRT interval signal is playing --- backwards!!!!
I had just started to record it when cut off air at 2356*. Could they
be playing it off a reel-to-reel tape? Cassettes won`t play backwards.
I suppose some software could do it, deliberately, or by accident?
First time I have heard any backwards music in many years; thanks,
VOT, where something`s always awry at Ankara, and/or erroneous at
Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2120 monitoring: confirmed Sunday
January 9 from 2100.5 on AM Italia, 918 kHz, S9+20 into nearby Noale
SDR; from 2058 music, 2059 dead air, no ID but Madrid timesignal
audible, before joining WOR after theme has started. Checking LW 207
kHz via same SDR, trace of algo, imagination level maybe me talking.

NOT confirmed Sunday January 9 at 2330 on WRMI 9955, replaced by
something else as now shown on program sked. But still at same time on
WRMI 5950, S9+35 into Knoxville SDR. This leaves WOR with only two
times on 9955 when there are also webcasts and phonecasts: Fri 1530 &
Tue 2330.

Confirmed UT Monday January 10 at 0030 on WRMI 7730, VG direct
S9+20/30.

Also confirmed UT Monday January 10 at 0130 on WRMI 9395, S9/+10.
System G program sked continues to show this also on 9455 and also
same time UT Thursday, but for weeks/months, 9455 has really split to
System J = SMTV at 0100!

Also confirmed UT Mon Jan 10 at 0230 on WRN North America webcast.

Also confirmed UT Mon Jan 10 from almost 0401 on Area 51 via WBCQ
6160-, but JBA into Missouri SDR, offset -58 Hz = 6159.942, S6/S7 vs
storm crashes along the Gulf coast. 0428 at Knoxville it`s S3-S6 on
6159.968. All those Kiwis need to be calibrated. Next:

2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [jammed?]
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts:

Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary
support. Thanks this week to Chris Krug, Tulsa OK, for a contribution
via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds to: woradio at yahoo.com

One may also contribute by MO or check on a US bank to:
Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5970, Jan 10 at 1548, surprised to hear Spanish here at S9,
WEWN on much later than expected and // 12050 at S9+10. 1558 recheck,
5970 is off. Normally only one or the other, but Glen Tapley admitted
to me that two different transmitters are used for lower and higher
frequencies. B21 HFCC shows 5970 at 00-14, 12050 at 14-24 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5920, Jan 9 at 2339, Jan 10 at 0007, NO signal from WHRI.
Nor Jan 11 at 0018 check via Maryland remote. Giampiero Bernardini,
Milano, Italy, had reported it, via SW Bulletin: ``5920 Dec31 0005
WHRI, Cypress Creek SC USA, English religious, fair (Bernardini)``

WHRI has been inactive! Pending sale to anyone but WBCQ, Did he get an
ID? It is however registered in HFCC available B21 all the way from 23
to 12 UT, A21 00-12, and no other station currently at 0005. Possibly
it was turned on once for some test. Or could the frequency be
misremembered? Like 7520 has WWCR on it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VATICAN. 13830, Jan 10 at 1551, VR in Amharic, S9/+10, with
long/short path echo. This is 250 kW at 135 degrees. Exacerbated by
SMG capability of radiating considerable signal directly off the back
of antenna, which would be 315 degrees, USward. Strangely enough,
distancefromto.net does have Santa Maria di Galeria in its database,
computing distance direct to Enid as 8786.29 km = 5459.55 statute
miles.

Rounding off a bit, taking Earth circumference as 40,075 km, the
longpath = 31289 km, which is 22503 km further than shortpath. Taking
speed of light at 299,792 km/sec, that makes a delay of 0.075 second
or approx. 1/13 of one second echo. That is, assuming propagation at
ground level, so everything slightly further bouncing up and down from
the ionosphere. How many hops, I wonder?

11935, Jan 10 at 1557, I also hear the other VR Amharic, just in time
with IS and cut off at 1558*; no echo noted. This one is 250 kW at 113
degrees from SMG (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 6114, re my RTTY reports vs carrier on 6115, Jan 9 at
0502, Ron Howard replies: ``Hi Glenn, On Jan 9, tuned by 6115 a number
of times (0500+ UT). Heard the RTTY there about 50% of the time, so
rather erratic. As for Congo, in the past I often noted them starting
about *0525, but rarely much earlier. Recently have only been hearing
Japan and RTTY. Ron, California``

Lou Johnson says, Jan 10 at 1339 UT, ``6115 Clear last night (1/9),
here in Atlanta. Maybe they figured it out? Lou`` --- maybe he means
UT Jan 10. Comment also copied to WWCR and VORW, since 6115 QRM would
concern them if between 22 and 02 UT. No RTTY detectable here Jan 10
circa 2340 when WWCR is blasting in on 6115 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

This report despatched at 0028 UT January 11

Glenn Hauser logs January 8-9, 2022  View Printable Version
Sunday, January 09 2022

Logs
** CUBA. 9700, Jan 9 at 0722, only RHC channel still on, S9+20 and
undermodulated, as `Ed Newman` plays a clip from the US left-wing
`Democracy Now`, Amy Goodman reporting on migrants dying in the
English channel with no help from France or Britain. How about some
Democracy, now in Cuba? Ha2. I`m barely awake at 0805 so seek weekly
Esperanto which should be running now on one 6 MHz channel like 6100,
but nowhere to be found, not even 9700. Something`s always wrong at
RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9899.6, Jan 9 at 2205, again no English signal from R. Cairo
into UTwente. But other transmissions continue:

``Remarkably well modulated signal. Jan. 9 at 1530 UT on 9440 in
Albanian. They CAN get it right if they try. Still the annoying buzz
on this particular transmitter. The other transmitter on 9900 has been
off air Jan. 3 through 8. Either it is undergoing repair or they have
given up. Strange that Albanian should get preference over the other
languages on their sked. Alan Holder, G4ZBH, Isle of Wight, U.K.``
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6929.911 AM, Jan 8 at 2310, JBA S5/S6 pirate music
and talk. These say it`s Pandemic Radio:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,91382.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) See also UNIDENTIFIED

** NORTH AMERICA. 6950 USB, Jan 9 at 0228 and 0237+, jazz S4/S5 into
Maryland SDR. These logs had Outhouse Radio, but off at 0100*
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,91388.0.html
back on later or something else unreported? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 5960, Jan 8 at 2300, VOT English VG S9+35 into
UTwente, news about Kazakhstan. Today`s transmitter is the one with
good modulation and no squeal! Direct at 2312, it`s S8-S9, poor with
flutter, noise.

5959.979, Jan 9 at 0007, The Mighty KBC via Nauen, GERMANY, S9+18/20,
measured here but with ripple SAH, CCI into UTwente, probably not
Turkey bonus German but PBS Xinjiang, Urumqi, EAST TURKISTAN, land of
imperialist ChiCom genocide, per Aoki carrying CNR1 during this
semihour (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2120 monitoring:: confirmed
Saturday January 8 at 2054.5 on WA0RCR, 1860-AM, MO, S9+12 into nearby
SDR, about 23 minutes into so started circa 2032.

Also confirmed UT Sunday January 9 at 0030 on WRMI 7730, VG direct.

Also confirmed UT Sunday January 9 at 0455.5 on WA0RCR, 1860-AM, S9+20
into nearby SDR, with storm noise from as close as Arkansas, about 2
minutes into so started circa 0453.

Missed checking Sunday Jan 9 at 1330 on WMRI Europe via 9670 Germany.
Did anyone hear it? Next:

2100 UT Sunday IRRS 918 & 207-Italy
2330 UT Sunday WRMI 5950 to NNW
2330 UT Sunday WRMI 9955 [jammed?] to SSE

One may also contribute by MO or check on a US bank to:
Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5950, UT Sun Jan 9 at 0030-0045, WRMI with `Postcard
Panorama` of poetry and radio-related musings by Tammy Walker. Yes,
it`s a repeat of the original episode one week ago so we may expect a
new one monthly, with further chances to hear it this month on UT Jan
16, 23, 30. Solo `cello classical music filled from 0045, before 0100
Texas Radio SW with songs about Texas (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. (5085), UT Sun Jan 9 at 0100, WTWW-2 still with hamstuff,
`TOUTA` not yet despite previous weeks starting as much as 10 minutes
earlier. It is running by 0108, but I am mainly listening to `Encore`
classical music on WRMI 5850 which starts punxually at 0100! Heard
last few minutes of TOUTA until chopped abruptly at 0207 to ``CQ`` and
WTWW ID, back to rock music. Bob Heil had plugged listening to webcast
where it`s in stereo, my preference too (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 3215, UT Sun Jan 9 at 0025, no signal from WWRB when it
would normally be active weekends only; nor 3360 at 0217 Jan 9, the
new frequency it had been on for a few weeks.

If Dave Frantz died January 2 as reported, it might have still been on
UT Sun Jan 2 but not UT Mon Jan 3. My only check was Jan 3 at 0255
when not on 3360. My last log was: ``3215, Dec 26 at 2328, S9/+25 of
dead air from WWRB; not to be outdone by CUBA, some modulation missing
at Manchester`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 3215, Jan 9 at 0217, WWCR-1 is not off the air; `Musical
Memories` with Martha Garvin hymning at her piano. It seems there will
be no more timesharing 3215 with WWRB (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1130 kHz, Jan 9 at 1747 UT, KLEY Wellington KS is still dead
air of S9+20; stronger than adjacent Okies on 1120 & 1140 which do
manage to modulate. Also noticed previous night as OC mixing with KWKH
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 6114, Jan 9 at 0502, RTTY is rampant again, US Navy
Azores or Italy? Vs JBA carrier on 6115, Nikkei Japan already if not
Congo? It`s 1402 JST but near the shortest day of the year. Congo
supposedly not active where it`s 0602 LST equatorially; but EiBi
suggests variable opening around 0515 UT. No other 6115 stations are
known now (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 6930.923 AM, Jan 9 at 0234, JBA carrier S5-S6 into
Maryland SDR: no such pirate reported to HFU. K index at 00 was 5,
after G1 storm levels; down to 3 by 03 UT (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

This report dispatched at 1933 UT January 9
