Glenn Hauser Log Roundup May 13-19

Please note and spread the word - for those not on a list where my
almost-daily all-band but mainly SW log reports appear -- or for those
who are but find this a more convenient archive, weekly merged
roundups of all these reports in their original form are posted early
every UT Thursday via:
http://www.worldofradio.com/Hauserlogs.html

The latest one direct:
https://www.w4uvh.net/ghlogs_2021_0513_0519.txt

** CUBA. 6060, May 20 at 0612, RHC English with Chief Meteorologist
providing hardly-needed weather info for the NW Hemisphere, but big
humbuzz again on this frequency; while 6100 & 6165 are equally good;
6000 is off; and 5040 in Spanish. Ivo keeps reporting 5040 in
``wrong`` language before and after 06; but maybe now it could be the
``right`` language if intentionally changed (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ETHIOPIA [non]. WRMI new skedgrid dated May 10 via wrmi.net at very
bottom shows A-21 relays via TDF FRANCE, ending with:

``M07 Projet: Raadiyyoni Dirree Shaggar 17:00 17:30 0:30 Ethiopie 48W
Mul ISS 15445 19 500 4/4/.8 128 7123456``

So unlike the others, it`s projected. Google translate identifies the
name as Somali, which is a minolity language in Ethiopia. Removing the
first word, however, if guesses Hindi, in neither case translating the
second and third words, must be proper names. Broadly searching on the
full name gets nothing but the Bulgarian DX blog where this is also
mentioned today.

I check 15445 May 20 at 1700, but indeed no signals yet into Kuwait
SDR or UTwente (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2087)

** MALI. 5995, May 20 at 0611, for second night, Bamako is missing.
How about the day frequency after 0800, 9635? Seldom heard here and I
think was already sporadic (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2087)

** NEW ZEALAND [non]. 11725, May 20 at 0603, no signal from RNZI, tho
Vanuatu manages a JBA carrier on 11835. Since it`s Thursday, maybe
RNZI sked askew for maintenance chex. Also have signals on 11895,
11995, 12030, 12050. 11895 is usual NMI; the others? Per Aoki, 11995 =
RFI Hausa; 12030 BBC French via Sao Tome; 12050 Ndadrason via
Woofferton (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2086 monitoring: confirmed UT Thu May 20 at
0130 on WRMI 5010, S9+15 but noisy into Bonaire SDR.

Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary support:
thanks this week to William Hassig, Mt Prospect IL, for a check on a
US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702, ``in observance
of my second Moderna COVID-19 shot on Mon 3 May 2021`` --- that`s a
good idea!

One may also contribute via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com
[not necessarily in US funds].

First WOR 2087 broadcasts confirmed on WRMIs, UT Fri May 21 at 0130,
on 7780, S9 and noisy into UTwente; and 5850, VG S9+35/40 into KB0FX
remote in MO, also VG direct (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. 5890, May 20 at 0609, WWCR Dead Brother Scare, but
with Dead Gene Scott audio from 5935 clearly audible mixing at
somewhat lower level. 5935? Also such a modulation mix at about equal
levels, and S9+30! Among several dead gospel huxters WWCR propagates
but now WWCR outdoes itself, two at a time, twice! In all these years
of SWBC, WWCR still doesn`t have its basic act together; human error,
or what?

When both signals be strong as this we`ve easily heard
inter-modulation = leapfrog mixing product on 5980, another 45 kHz
upward --- but not now, not even a carrier under the Cuban jamming
against nothing. Well, WWCR manages to mix itself up one way or
another! How about the other two WWCRs? At 0613, also dead the air on
4840 at S9+20/30; 3215 is TOMBS alone (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF
RADIO 2087)

Glenn Hauser logs May 19, 2021  View Printable Version
Wednesday, May 19 2021

Logs
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98-RCUSB, Wed May 19 at 1513 tune-in via
Pardinho, Brasil KiwiSDR, LRA36 amid historical talk about events in
1911, 1812, colores; S5-S7; ``Nacional, la Radio Pública ---`` ID,
efemérides; 1516 songs; 1526 LRA36 ID; 1530 ``Nacional, Antártida
Argentina``, songs. 1535 sign-off, repeats Saturday and back next
Wednesday; 1536 Antártida themesong. 1539 immediately ``sign-on`` of
same? show, in Spanish, German, English, Russian. Explains derivation
of Antártida from original Greek, Anta. song, 1545 brief weather
conditions, this is program #19, 1550 mostly music until 1601* chopped
off air abruptly during tune. This time I did not try to detect
whether reduced carrier linger (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6060, May 19 at 0615, RHC English is S9+20/30 of big humbuzz
only, no program modulation. 6100 is also dead air of S9+10/20 and
light humbuzz at same pitch; then bits of modulation cutting on and
off, and the same on 6060 before gone again. Wiggle that patchcord.
All these are off now: 6165, 6145, 6000, 5040. Something`s always
wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MALI. 5995, May 19 at 0613, no signal from ORTM; I don`t often
bother to log it while it`s there every night; propagation OK with
7254.9 Nigeria (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Wed May 19 at 2215, token English from REE is VG into
VA SDR going from Hallelujah Chorus to a Basque accordionist laced
with anti-war comments in English, et al. Then a Piazzola tango at
2225. With such VG signals it`s fun to listen in SAS mode, i.e.
synchro artificial stereo --- except the SAM+ modes on all the Kiwis
I`ve tried are marred by clix every few sex (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9830, May 19 at 2214, VOT English is on today with music at
quick check via VA SDR (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2086 monitoring: NOT confirmed Wed May 19 at
1030 on WRMI 5850. From: Richard Lemke, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada,
From the desk of Richard’s listening Post, Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF,
Antenna: random long wires in the trees. Dear Glenn: 5850 kHz, 1030,
1058, outstanding signal, not much heard, no voice, there’s always
something wrong at WRMI, USA, no audio heard, May 19 UTC 2021. 73’s,
Richard, May 19, 2021``

NOT confirmed Wed May 19 at 2100 on WRMI 7780: after BZ ID, same thing
happens! Transmitter on but dead air even past 2130. Earlier airings
on same System F were OK.

Confirmed Wed May 19 at 2100+ on WBCQ 7490-, S7-S8 via VA SDR, -136 Hz
carrier offset = 7489.864. Next and last:
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

Glenn Hauser logs May 18-19, 2021  View Printable Version

Logs
** CUBA. 6060, May 18 at 0636, this RHC English is humbuzzy again,
while 6165 & 6100 are both on and OK; 6000 & 5040 both off.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 9700, May 18 at 1426, RHC Spanish ex-9710, just as it was for
the tarde transmission earlier UT May 18. BUT:

9710, May 18 at 2155 back here after last evening and this morning on
9700 instead; so a one-day test, mistake, or what? Both have collision
problems during their long spans as I already explained.

It will be recalled that for a few weeks, 9700 was employed for
evening English instead of 6145 or 6165. RHC really *should* keep one
31mb frequency for that, especially in summer, instead of putting all
their English eggs in the noisy 48-59m basket. Reasonable frequency
diversity is always a good idea for best coverage. Wait a minute: what
if the Commies take my advice? Never mind. Something`s always wrong at
RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 13610 & 13677 very approx., wideband FM spurblobs not from
13700 in the mornings, but now at 2152 May 18, from 13740-AM in the
evening, the only RHC fundamental on band. Also telltale F# tone; also
a trace circa 13811. But all gone at 2227 since 13740 has been turned
off tho still scheduled.

13670 & 13810 spurs out of 13740-AM, all back on May 19 at 0033.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6145 & 6165, May 19 at 0052 and still 0142, no RHC English on
either, just 6000 which is S9+10/20 but undermodulated, vs storm
noise. It does not help that main announcer Lina Valverde has such a
thin, non-announcer voice. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, May 19 at 0143, REE to N America is still propagating
midnightly, natch OSOB, S9-S7 and also until 0200 sign-off, 0201-0205*
needless prolongation of earworm IS but SOP for REE at closings. Only
// 11940 for S America does the same and is better at S9/+20. As
non-useful as it may be for best listening, sticking to 17855 may be
taken at least as an interesting propagational experiment for the
summer A-21 season (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9830, May 18 at 2158 & still 2226 recheck, no signal from
VOT English to N America tho no RTTY either (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2086 monitoring; next:

1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
2200 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [jammed?] to SSE
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts:

Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5800, May 18 at 0638, S9+10/20 of open carrier, surely
WRMI-10. Misprogrammed automation or test for some reason? Last time I
caught same way after-hours was April 6, also a Tuesday, no
coincidence? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
