Glenn Hauser logs November 3-4-5, 2024 |

Tuesday, November 05 2024
** CANADA. 680, Nov 4 at 0745 UT tuneacross, immediately hear CJOB ID and Winnipeg weather: hi 7, lo -3, windchill -8. Like so many Canadians, obviously not on night pattern, supposed to be extremely direxional NNE: https://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=CJOB&service=AM&s=F&h=N while daypat also favours NNE but less so: https://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=CJOB&service=AM&s=F&h=D yet despite my E/W longwire it dominates (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CHINA. 9415, Nov 4 at 2318, Vietnamese keeps mentioning ``Chung-kuo``, S9+20/30. It`s CRI via Beijing 572 site, but why so good over here? HFCC shows 500 kW at 193 degrees apropos for Viet-nam and not close to directly opposite (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CHINA [and non]. 11670, Nov 4 at 1551, two Chinese sigs mixing, S7/S9. EiBi shows CNR1 jamming vs RFA PHILIPPINES. 11765, much stronger and clearer Chinese only, i.e. CNR1 jamming vs no RFA Kuwait (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KOREA NORTH. 9874.91, Nov 4 at 0737, JBA music. EiBi shows it`s VOK in Russian on ``9875``. EiBi list is a great resource, but does not always bother with specifying offfrequenciness, even when habitual. On 31m does show three splits: two Brasil, one UAE, yet to only one decimal place. Some `DXer`? complains, ``just round them off`` -- NO, such details are significant aspects of a station! and editors must not counteract our trouble in measuring them (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 9690, Mon Nov 4 at 2259, REE Spanish S9+30/40 direct with contact info, URL for Ayuda/Víctimas. 2300 accurate timesignal, s/on token English, intro topic, this is the 100th anniversary of some museum, so will interview curator of 100 pictures for the occasion, but first, 2301 news starting with protests vs monarx and PM about late red alerts warning of the flash flooding in Valencia which killed hundreds, complete with location yelling. At 2314 check other // frequencies: > 12030 = 17715 > 17755 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [and non]. 9610, Sun Nov 3 at 2147, VOT English, only S7/S8 weak with clickery and ChiCom CCI into UTwente: I was trying to catch a prepeat of `Letterbox`, but insufficient (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.003+, Sun Nov 3 at 2315, VOT English not off the air, S9+30/40 into UTwente atop the CCCCCCI, also with own? humroar, sports segment ending the olds by Efsun the accentuated who is the `live` announcer this time, but where is `Letterbox`? 2320 music, 2325 more music, 2330 `Weekly Analysis`, I think a repeat, 2334 ``always-by-your-side`` promo. Finally! 2335 `Letterbox`, this time presented by Efsun. 1) Christer Brunström, Sweden, quite a regular, this time with a question about whether VOT is really adding Norwegian as mentioned previously? Answer seems waffling, at least not yet. 2) Chris, Canada, topic? 2338 music break already! 2341 3) West Bengal, subject? 2343 already another music break. 2345 talk about what? 2349 closing. 2350 headlines. 2352 s/off. 2353 IS to 2355* uncovering China. It seems that each rotating L`box presenter does it in a very different style. With Efsun, besides being hard to understand, it`s late, shortened, gets to only 3 or 4 `letters`, and music padded. We miss Halil! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.016, Nov 4 at 2258, VOT not off the air, IS & IDs, S9+10/20 direct but insufficient vs HSNL and also fluttery. At 2335 into UTwente when measured, VG S9+30/40, well atop some CCI, `The Energy Agenda`. 2339 music. 2342 `That`s Why` again today with Efsun the axentuated, ``the wonders of numbers``, but I can`t follow exactly what ``impact on daily life``. 2350 headlines and s/off. 2353 IS. 2356 restart IS with German IDs. 0000 Nov 5 s/on German; chopoff by 0003 or 0004 uncovering the CCCCCCI. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 8992 USB, Nov 4 at 0731, US military crypto message is fonetikaly underway, sked 0730? with usual echo implying more than one transmitter site, but I`m not so sure of that. They seem to want to make it less than clear copy for training purposes. The key repeated several times is C6TRLB, and then the longer message starts with same, not copied this time, but checked for //: yes, also on 15016 USB, strongest on 4724 USB. Despite several repeats, could not understand the closing tactical ID, ``This is ----, out`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 28216+, Nov 3 at 2305, ID ID ID N7MA and more repeated, presumably referring to Idaho; but not in WGB roster on any frequency. QRZ.com: ``N7MA USA flag USA, MARK T AVAKIAN, 24443 E DOYLE RD, CATALDO, ID 83810, USA --- My 10 Meter Propogation Beacon at Rose Lake transmits on 28.2165MHz at 5 watts. It's pretty much always on with a couple of deep cycle batteries for power. The transmitter is an old Realistic HTX-100. The antenna is currently a dipole. The keyer is an ID-O-Matic by N0XAS. The receiver in the HTX-100 smoked, literally, years ago but the transmitter just keeps on going. I have a small fan in back of the radio to keep things a little cool. For me part of the fun of having the beacon is playing with antennas. So far it's had a loop, dipole, and verticals 8', 17', 31' and 120' long. Bill, WJ5O is sort of the USA Beacon Guru. His website has everything you've ever wanted to know about beacons and then some. http://www.qsl.net/wj5o/ I really like knowing if the beacon is getting out and to where, so please drop me a email or QSL if you happen to hear it.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2267 monitoring: confirmed Sunday November 3 at 2001 on IRRS via AM Italia, 1322.995+, S9 but noisy into UTwente. Also confirmed Sunday November 3 at 2230 on SW Radio, Germany, 3975.003+, S8/S9 into UTwente. Also confirmed Sunday November 3 at 2330 on WRMI-13 7780, S9/+10 but noisy into Georgia SDR, for the third week instead of scheduled 7570 WRMI-11, transmitter/antenna still not recovered following H. Yet another FOUR-YEAR-OLD one, and he sounds rather ill. Starts out with IPS prop info from depth rather than height of solar cycle! 10.7 cm flux 97, SSN 44. Out-of-date routine logs this time are from unspecified ``European monitors``, not himself. Finishes in time for fill with more nonsense, `Creation Moment`. WWCR still rendering tremendous disservice to listeners, doesn`t know or doesn`t care that this is old stuff. Makes me wonder if BP himself be routinely uploading 4-year-old recordings to them every week? He might have lost track of which year this is (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 1959 UT November 3 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/
