Glenn Hauser logs July 3-4, 2020 |

Saturday, July 04 2020
** ALGERIA [non]. 7295, July 4 at 0543, RTA, Arabic via FRANCE with the self-QRMing beeping Issoudun transmitter. BTW, that was also applied to 13820 during the July 2 English segment around 1830; but you never know which transmitter will be in use at which time on which frequency of RTA, RFI, or some other relay, from one day to the next (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CHINA. CNR1 jammer survey, July 4 at 1357: 13160 S4; 12820 JBA carrier; 12800 S9 in Chinese. At 1423, 13160, S7-S9 music; 1424: 10820 S4-S5; 10920 JBA; 11120; 11440 S5-S6; 11460 JBA carrier; 1428: 13530 JBA. At 1429: 9180 S5-S8; 9200 S6-S9; 9230 JBA carrier (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 12000, July 3 at 1409, JBA talk here, presumed 2 x 6000 RHC, which quickly checked is still on and barely audible, but 12000 gone at 1410*. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15140, July 3 at 1415, RHC is absent when this is supposed to be on; 15230 is on but S9-S7 of dead air, or JBM? Something`s always wrong at RHC. July 4 at 1400 both are on and modulating, VP (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 12200, July 4 at 0547, RHC English at S5-S9 vs CODAR, quite audible but not as big as last time on 2 x 6100. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KOREA NORTH. 13760.2, July 4 at 1429, JBA carrier from presumed VOK still way off-frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NIGERIA. 7255- & 9690-, July 3 at 0606, VON is gone again from both possible frequencies. Ditto July 4 at 0558 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SOUTH CAROLINA [non]. 5890, July 4 at 0544, Brother HyStairical is back now that WWCR-4 has been repaired and reactivated; see also USA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [and non]. 9830, July 3 at 2230, VOT, English to NAm confirmed active today via KiwiSDR Pardinho SP Brasil which I happened to have just checked for WOR/WRMI; but with heavy splash from much bigger signal on 9820; at first thought it might be SP`s local R 9 de Julho, 9818v, but in Chinese, so HFCC as CNR, 150 kW, 290 degrees from Xi`an; specifically CNR2 per Aoki/NDXC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 28281-CW, July 3 at 1420, beacon ID W8E? copied, probably this which fits with another letter, from WJ5O roster: ``28.281 W8EH C MIDDLETOWN OHIO # 8W, GP VERTICAL`` Sporadic E; in the previous minute also had one on 28205; and on 28255 a K6##, but none listed around there. 28280-CW, July 3 at 1424, dash and ``DE K5AB ... CENTRAL TEXAS...`` also heard a few days ago, now VG at peaks: ``28.280 K5AB C GOLDTHWAITE, TEXAS # 50W, GP VERTICAL Power increase 5 May 16`` Lots of hets on CB, and WWCR 15825 & 13845 also Es-enhanced (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2041 monitoring: confirmed first WRMI airing, Friday July 3 at 2200 on 9955: fair at TWR Bonaire & DR SDRs; better to good at Pardinho SP Brasil. Also confirmed, UT Sat July 4 at 0130 on WRMIs: 5800 VG S9+30/40 direct, fair at Maine SDR; 7780, JBA direct with high storm noise level (HSNL), VG at Maine; 5010 JBA direct HSNL, poor at Maine, the latters checked at 0145. Storm just south of Garfield in next county Kingfisher, but also along KS/CO border into NE, skipping Mount Rushmore SD; ND-MB-ON et al. Also confirmed, Sat July 4 at 1319 the 1300 on WRMI 15770, JBA. Also confirmed, Sat July 4 at 1600 on WRN webcast. Next: 1930vUT Saturday WA0RCR 1860-AM 0300vUT Sunday WA0RCR 1860-AM [nominal 0315; as late as 0400] 0300 UT Sunday WRMI 5800 to SSE 0700 UT Sunday Unique Radio NSW 3210-USB [ex-0900] 0030 UT Monday WRMI 7730 to WNW [NEW] 0130 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to NE 0230 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to NE 0300vUT Monday WBCQ 5130v Area 51 or 6160v to WSW 0330 UT Monday WRMI 9955 [jammed?] to SSE 0900 UT Monday Unique Radio NSW 3210-USB 1800vUT Monday IRRS 7290 Bulgaria to WNW, 594-Italy 0100 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to NE 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Thanks this week for financial support from John Carver, mid-north IN, for a generous check in US funds on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 One may also contribute via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com PayPal not necessarily in US funds as they will convert. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7490v, 6160v, 5130v, UT Sat July 4 after 0000, for AAAWWW, these WBCQs are detectable, very poor signals with storm noise; all I hear at a quick check is Angela overmodulating an opinion on current events. Has been repeating 24 hours later on 7490v at least, but not this week, as UT Sun July 5 at 0000-0100 is when Uncle Bill`s much-publicized 4th of July musical special is due, on 7490+v and 6159.9v. Unfortunately simultaneously with `A Capitol Fourth` on PBS-TV, but repeated a sesquihour later at least on OETA; and CNN`s 4OJ special at 0000-0400 UT, not to mention countless local events, including Enid, where the Enid Symphony Orchestra is barreling ahead with its traditional performance at Meadowlake Park despite the risks; people are encouraged to spread out as there is plenty of space around the lake, but in best of times getting in and out is problematic, e.g. avoiding those burning poison gas, i.e. smokers who think it`s OK as long as it`s outside; and parking is a nightmare. I urged conductor Doug Newell to reconsider; what about the musicians crammed under the canopy? The windy ones at least cannot be masked. How about recording and/or broadcasting it? He says they don`t have the rights to do so, which would be an additional expense. The concert is always free to the public, underwritten this year by Security National Bank. Starts around 0130 UT after a full day schedule of other risky events at the Park, and to accompany fireworx circa 0230 when it`s finally darkening. To avoid the hassles, the past few years we have been attending instead dress rehearsals at 4 pm Saturday back in Symphony Center, but not this year in that enclosed and possibly crowded venue. The fireworx can of course be seen from a considerable distance away, but the music inaudible. Years before I had tried to get them to employ a Part 15 FM transmitter for better sound than over the loudspeakers, and maybe audible just outside the park in cars. Nix. ESO apparently is itching to get going again with no performances since March, the final scheduled concert of the year, an all-Beethoven bash in April for season subscribers only, postponed. BTW, there aren`t enough local musicians to form an orchestra, so ESO has to draw in others from elsewhere in OK. As a 51-K city, we are lucky to have it and hope all of them survive (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 15770, July 3 at 2044, NO signal from WRMI-9 when RFPI is scheduled on Fridays; normally a JBA carrier at least; while 15825 WWCR & 15610 WEWN do now achieve that much (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7385, July 4 at 0236, this WHRI is now squealing, like 7315 VOV relay previously; now 7315 is also on in English not // gospel huxters, and also squealing. 9825, July 4 at 0555, WHRI squealing here too with g.h., maybe one of same transmitters as earlier on 7 MHz. Haven`t they noticed in Cypress Creek, Furman, Noblesville or South Bend?? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5890, July 4 at 0239, WWCR-4 is back on, non-TOM during this hour, following several days off for repairs. Day frequency 9980 also resumed at 1654 check, tsk2 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) See also SOUTH CAROLINA [non] UNIDENTIFIED. 12670.0-USB, July 4 at 1359, 2-way in Spanish, one of them screaming, encountered as I bandscan for CNR1 jammers. Per Klingenfuss 2002y, this was not a ship SSB frequency, but WNU New Orleans was in CW/DIG on 12670.4 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 1815 UT July 4 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

** ALGERIA [non]. 13820, July 2 at 1828, RTA via FRANCE starts ENGLISH segment, YL historical artistic talk about a painter whose name I never catch, continuous music background. 1836 into another feature, `Destination: Algeria` tourist talk by OM about the sights in the northeast, then northwest; 1841 into Spanish, weekly Latin American correspondent in Bs. As. about the COVID-19 situation especially in Brasil. Tnx to Pedro Sedano, Spain, who tipped us on the WOR iogroup that this hour only carries the International domestic network, not just Arabic/Qur`an and some French but also English circa 1830 and Spanish like this. Times could be 1 minute off as I recorded during significantly home-grown salad lunch and did not listen until later.
AFAWK, this is the only time for English on SW, other than some scattered IDs. Monitored here VG via UTwente SDR; didn`t try direct but probably would hear more Cuban jamming against no Martí than RTA. This hour on one frequency only. Also reported by Alan Roe, UK, and via UTw, Richard Langley, NB (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2041) ** CHINA. CNR1 jammer survey, July 2 at 1339: 14990 VP; 13160 two signals; 1130 Chinese S5-S7; 12500 & 11440 JBA carriers. At 1346: 11150 music, 11120 JBA, 11100 & 10920 JBA carriers (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA [non]. 9490.024, July 3 at 0150, Radio República is VG S9+20/30 with the jamming underneath JBA for a change. Mentions ``Cuba libre``, ending newscast with rooster crow. Caught my attention in bandscan since this far off-frequency, unusual for Issoudun if FRANCE still be the site with RMI the go-between broker rather than just putting it on much closer Okeechobee. Europe is hot tonight, 9420 Greece also inbooming with its musical alternative (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KOREA NORTH. 13760.201, July 2 at 1337, VOK exactly same remeasured off-frequency for second day in a row, S3-S5, usual syrupy choral music from paradise (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2041) ** OKLAHOMA. Re: 1270 KRXO in Tulsa [now in Spanish // 107.9]. Yes Glenn, KRXO abruptly changed their format a few weeks ago. "The Franchise" laid off their main morning hosts early in the Pandemic, I wondered then if the handwriting was on the wall... 107.7 is off the air, 73 (Chris KC5IIE Krug, Tulsa, OK, July 2, WOR iog) Chris, OK, but what do you mean by ``107.7 is off the air?`` The only 107.7 in OK is the original KRXO-FM in OKC, still very much on the air as The Franchise, in English as I am hearing it now (Glenn, Enid, 1459 UT July 2, WOR) ** U S A. 28263-, July 2 at 1424, one 10m beacon is JBA, VVV DE W4JPL BCN ... LIB ... 05. No /B suffix, just space, BCN. Partial msg copied after multiple repeats. WJ5O roster shows: ``28.2635 W4JPL C LIBERTY NORTH CAROLINA # 4W, 5/8 VERTICAL`` And QRZ.com: ``W4JPL USA flag USA, JOHN P LLOYD, LIBERTY, NC 27298 USA`` with no further info. Liberty is SE of Greensboro on the way to Siler City, or forming an equilateral triangle with Greensboro and Burlington. I logged it as on the minus side of 28263 but listed on plus side; one of us is mistaken. Very briefly another beacon audiblized slightly higher in frequency. No Es MUF into FM today; openings should taper off as we get into July but there could still be some goodies if we can catch them (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9980 during the day July 2, and 5890 at night, checked 0420 UT July 3, WWCR-4 still off the air depriving us of extra BS. John Jurasek found an explanation on the website: ``WWCR is working on a major transmitter repair. Additionally, WWCR streams may not be playing scheduled content. . . All parts needed to complete this project should be received by July 3. WWCR staff and management appreciate your patience during this time.`` Program skeds have now been updated as of July 1, and WWCR-4 still shows 24/7 on 9980/7520/5890, so enjoy the fresh air while we can!
