Glenn Hauser logs March 9-10, 2020 |

Tuesday, March 10 2020
** COLOMBIA. 6010.0, March 10 at 0308-0312+, S9 to S9+10 in Spanish and it is religious ``la palabra de dios``, like La Voz de tu Conciencia used to be. Also getting it on Colombia KiwiSDR. I keep listening until 0400 UT definite ID as Alcaraván Radio --- that`s the sibling station to LV de tu Conciencia, nominally on 5910 but it was not unusual for them to swap programming. Presumably Alcaraván has kept active on MW 1530. But does LVC have a MW frequency?
So at least one of the HJDHs has been reactivated. Long-winded sermon continued until 0341 switch to another speaker with Bible reading, 0346 hymn in Mexican style, 0349 announcements, more tunes including tropical rhythms; 0354 ``continúe con nosotros`` but no ID. 0358 song about carnaval. 0400 mentions México norteña and Colombia, finally definite ID in passing ``Alcaraván Radio`` [never vice versa], more tropical music, occasional chex such as 0420, 0442 music. They do play a lot of nice music, but ruin it with interruptions for predication. I`m mostly listening via the two KiwiSDRs in Colombia; the Bogotá one is less noisy; still music past 0500. Two Alcaraván Radio IDs at 0520. Then I check 5910 which until 0500 is blocked here by CRI via Cuba. There, the signal is much weaker, and still a carrier, presumably Cuba overrun. At 0616 when I quit, nothing on 5910 but 6010 still audible direct very poor with music. Probably runs all-night. Manuel Méndez, Spain was hearing 6010 as late as 0720, direct? Via a FL remote, Wolfgang Bueschel says it`s on exactly 6010.000 at 0636. The old transmitter was off-frequency. Tnx to Mike Newland, Morgantown KY, G5RV and Icom IC-7300, who first reported this to the WOR iog as unID at 0251 --- per short-wave.info would be either LVC or Mexico, Radio Mil --- incredibly, that long-gone station is still on the list --- doesn`t anyone keep it up to date??? It was helpful however to retain LV de tu Conciencia, but should have been flagged as inactive for a few years --- until now. There had been reports that visiting American gospel huxter engineers might be refurbishing these outlets. A few days ago, Bob Wilkner in FL had something in Spanish on 5910 before 0100 but which we could not confirm the next night. After 0100, Romania may or may not be active on 5910, and after 0300 it`s China via Cuba until end of B-19. WRTH 2020 lists 5910 & 6010 as DC stations --- as if they were in Bogotá, solely because that`s the postal address of QSL manager Rafael Rodríguez R.! They are really in remote Puerto Lleras, Meta. [non] Brasil is also active on 6010, altho I heard none of it in Colombia but did not try SDRs in Brasil; so beware and be sure of which language you are hearing. On the radioescutas group March 10: ``Bom dia amigos. Rádio Inconfidência sintonizada (6.010 Mhz) aqui em Marília(Sp) neste momento ((8h10) da manhã [0510 UT], programa "Em boa companhia". Ivan Evangelista Jr`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11880, March 9 after 2200 and 2302, no signal from RHC on the second day of its needless transmission jumbling due to the imposition of DST which ought to be irrelevant. Until March 8 had been at 22-23, and ``normal`` A-season shift was *later* to 23-24 UT on 11880 or 9720 --- and nothing there either. I also scan the entire 15, 13, 11, 9, 7 and 6 MHz bands and do not find RHC English anywhere on old or new frequencies during either hour. Maybe got lost in shuffle or coincidental transmitter downage? Keep checking. Something`s always wrong at RHC. If RHC management were not such a total mess, Arnie could have broadcast the exact new times and frequencies on DXers Unlimited March 8 or preferably earlier. But he never deals with such significant mundane matters. WRTH used to list him as the frequency manager, but lately only as ``advisor consultant to the director general``. My further RHC chex: English on tropical 5040 has indeed shifted an hour *earlier* from 00-01 UT to 23-24 UT March 9, confirmed beginning at 2301 but no //s anywhere. After 2200, Spanish is on 11950, 6000, 11850, 15370 at least; at 2244, 11700 in Portuguese; at 2305, 15730 in distorted Kriyol. Something`s always wrong at RHC. Late night, March 10 at 0618, 6060 is S9+30 of dead air; 6000 & 6100 are off; 6145 at 0620 in undermodulated English. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13635 & 13765 approx., March 10 at 1407, RHC FM/AM spurblobs out of RHC 13700 distorting `Sonido Cubano` music now during its earlier hour; just a trace on 2 x 65 kHz second-orders 13570 & 13830. 13740 is still on with bigsig of dead air. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15700, March 10 at 1410, CRI English relay is just barely modulated. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ITALY [non]. 7295, March 10 at 1818, IRRS with `War Room Pandemic` episode 39, very strong via UTwente, but considerable undercurrent QRM from Iran`s IS until it cuts off at 1822* --- for VIRI is already on 7295 in German at 1720-1820, 500 kW at 313 degrees! Now IRRS ex-7290 is colliding with that in order to evade China on 7285. At 1823, WRP mentions being on SW NEXUS IRRS to various targets but no time or frequency details (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2024 monitoring: on Monday March 9, Ron Norton sent an IRRS notice that they would be on 7295 instead of 7290 at 18-20 UT, to avoid CRI QRM on 7285 for the Coronavirus program at 1800. I quickly check UTwente and find nothing on 7285, 7290 or 7295 at 1848, but suddenly at *1851, 7295 comes on with music fill; and 7285 is also there with CRI. Maybe receiver had been out of order. BUT CRI is scheduled on 7295 at 1900-2100 in English from East Turkistan. This had been ACI to IRRS after 1900, and now will be CCI!!! Including WORLD OF RADIO about to start at 1901! At 1857 the 7285 CRI signal cuts off and now we have a full collision of CRI and IRRS on 7295. To avoid QRM, the second hour at 19-20 should shift to 7285. I, gh, posted preceding at 1859. At 1902: Contrary to new sked from IRRS, has switched back to 7290 at 1900, WOR good on LSB avoiding ACI from 7295. Then at 1910, Alfredo Cotroneo of IRRS tells me: ``Glenn, You will be on 7290, as usual from 19-20 UTC. We will assess 7295 from 18-19 and decide whether to stay on 7295during that period, since 7290 18-19 UTC suffered from interference from 7285 (CRI) in some parts of the EU``. [see also ITALY [non]] WOR 2024 also confirmed UT Tue March 10 at 0100 on WRMI 7780, good via UTwente and also reported: ``WRMI, Okeechobee, FL, 7780, Mar 10, 0100, EE with GH’s “World of Radio No. 2024”, followed by "Wavescan", 45344 (JRC NRD-535D; antenna 45m longwire with 9:1 Unun) (Robert Butterfield, Columbia, MD, USA)``. Next: 2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 990, My log of KWAM Memphis struck a nerve of Greg Hardison: ``Glenn: -- "KWAM, The Voice" -- This thing is moving under its new ownership by extremist Todd Starnes. Fox News-Talk radio had the wisdom last year to fire Starnes, after he sat back on his show in silence, while esteemed guest "Pastor" Robert Jeffress asserted, "all Democrats worship Moloch", a medieval demon-deity who allegedly advocated child-sacrifice. Perhaps Starnes will offer Jeffress his own daily show, to further propagate that kind of "patriotic" bilge, thus countering all them damn libtards in the media! Already trumpeting the NRA, no doubt we'll hear endless loads of this sort of crap on KWAM under Starnes' far-far-right guidance. Such a fine use for the "public" airwaves. Fine, fine people! -- GREG HARDISON`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 1834 UT March 10 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

Glenn Hauser logs March 8-9, 2020 |

Monday, March 09 2020
** CANADA. 284-MCW kHz, March 9 at 0626 UT, dash and ND beacon Ya-S, i.e. dit-dah-dit-dah, dit-dit-dit. As discussed in detail with my last November 15 log this is really QD in The Pas, Manitoba, miskeying the Q which should be dah-dah-dit-dah.
Despite storm crashes from southern Nebraska and local line noise level, I proceed: 326-MCW kHz, March 9 at 0628 UT, dash and NDB VV, which is 133 watts from Wiarton, Ontario (once a channel 2 TV DX city), per dxinfocentre.com ``To be decommissioned 2020-03-26`` but William Hepburn also says, ``Beacons are being decommissioned at such a rapid rate that many listed here may already be off the air. By 2026, most of these beacons will be gone with only a few left, __mainly in remote areas. Also, it has been noticed recently that many decommissioned beacons have been unexpectantly returning to the air (I call them "zombie beacons").`` I, gh, was tuned to 325-USB. 340-MCW kHz, March 9 at 0630 UT, dash and YY, 500 watt NDB at Mont Joli, Québec. I was tuned to 339-USB; yet QRM from local 341, EI Enid. 351-MCW kHz, March 9 at 0631 UT, dash and YKQ, 500-watt NDB at Fort Rupert - Waskaganish, Québec. I was tuned to 350-USB, yet no sign of RG at Will Rogers World Airport, OKC; off? 355-MCW kHz, March 9 at 0634 UT, dash and YWP, 200-watt NDB at Webequie, Ontario. I was tuned to 354-USB (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CANADA. 15034-USB, March 9 at 1526, Trenton Military is JBA instead of usual good signal; yet 14670 CHU is at normal good level, so I suspect CHR is now underpowered. Also yesterday noticed it very weak but still on air (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11880, March 8 at 2128-2130+, first day of DST to keep in step with the Gusanos en Miami, this RHC only S5-S6 is not in Arabic as before but Spanish during piano music and // 5040, 11760. Also // 15370 at 2132 S9+30 distorted. Something`s always wrong at RHC. Also // weak 9535 & 9640 at 2136. Unfortunately did not get around to confirming yet whether English have shifted from 22-23 to 23-24 on 11880 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. Further chex of RHC now that DST is in effect: UT Monday March 9 at 0036, 6000 is in Spanish, 6145 not on; 5040 is squealing and in Kriyol. At 0038, 11850 in Spanish and suptorted, 11760 OK, 11700 Spanish, 11670 distorted; 9640 and 9535 weaker all with discussion of béisbol. 6000 & 6145, March 9 at 0130, now these are on in English but both JBM. Something`s always wrong at RHC. 6060, March 9 at 0030, MUCH better signal and modulation in Spanish, S9+30. `En Contacto` ending an hour earlier at 0150 UT Monday after monthly AER DX report so starts at 0135; and also should be Sunday 1335 on all the morning frequencies, and Sunday 2245 on tarde channels (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 6060, March 9 at 0610, checking all the RHC English frequencies, this one is S9+20 of dead air; 5040, 6000, 6100 are OFF; 6145 is the only one still on, S9 but undermodulated; with `DXers Unlimited` at 0613-0622, so I listen to it all and try to understand Arnie: topic 1) 35 days with no sunspots; 2) lamenting lack of ham activity except weekend contests; 3) something about broadcast training?; 4) dipole antennas. DXUL is the most popular program on RHC, as he frequently asserts. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13740, March 9 at 1429, RHC carrier still on with crackling, rapid cutting off and on, 1430 goes off for good. 13700 is still running OK with no spurs. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 11560, March 8 at 1941, Station YHWH is S7-S9 but suptorted modulation; by 1959 a JBA carrier. Tnx to tip from Rick Barton, AZ to the WOR io group (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SCOTLAND [non]. 7490.05v, UT Monday March 9 after 0000, WBCQ with `Encore` classical music, also webcast, shifted without notice one UT hour earlier as The Planet operates on local time, not UT. Good signal direct anyway at 0040 check. 9455, UT Monday March 9 at 0215, the new `Encore` broadcast via WRMI has also shifted a UT hour earlier to 0200 after debut last week at 0300, again without notice (and yesterday`s WRMI on 5850 was a no-show). We hope everything will be back in sync next weekend. At least the current playlist was already available on website (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 774, March 9 at 0456, of all the TA carriers (see unID), this one manages some audio, Castilian talk from RNE synchros, 0500, six-pip timesignal, talk and music. Still very heavy splash from 780 WBBM (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2024 monitoring: confirmed Sunday March 8 at 2130 on WRMI 7780, JBA here; at 2153, poor-fair via UTwente SDR. Also confirmed UT Monday March 9 at 0130 on WRMI 9395, which has just shifted one UT hour earlier from 0230; and still preceded at 0129.5 with far-outdated ``Son-power Radio`` ID with long-gone 7455 frequency, followed by some 10 seconds of dead air, and a note of music fill before WOR start, but anyhow VG S9+10/20. And also at 0130 still on much weaker, JBA/VP 7780. But VG at UTwente and Rockport ME. Also confirmed UT Monday March 9 at 0230 on WRMI 7780, VG at Rockport; and also still at this unchanged time on WRN webcast (so Sat 1700 will also stay then until BST in April). Also confirmed UT Monday March 9 at 0300 (ex-0400) on Area 51 webcast; 5130 WBCQ poor-fair on SDR in Virginia but not ones closer to Maine; at 0327 here, fair S9/+10. Also confirmed UT Monday March 9 at 0330 on WRMI 9955, good via SDR in Pardinho, Brasil, no jamming; not audible in much closer Colombia; and here JBA carrier vs wall-of-noise jamming. Next: 1900vUT Monday IRRS 7290 Romania? to WNW 0100 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to NE 2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7490.2v, Sunday March 8 at 2127, WBCQ with `Marion`s Attic` amid its summer-shifted hour, fair S8-S9, but reception will steadily worsen until Solstice with more and more insolation over daytime path. Same hour, 21-22 UT on Sundays I am more disposed to listen to 90.1 KUCO-FM, or via webcast, to `Feminine Fusion` presenting classical music composed and/or performed by women, which originates at WCNY in Syracuse: https://exchange.prx.org/series/38388-feminine-fusion I wonder if hostess (sorry), Diane Jones, knows Marie Lamb, ex-`DXing with Cumbre`, if she still be there. Marie was more into jazz (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9330, March 8 at 2135, WLCR on WBCQ still in Arabic, S9+25/30 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9474.97 approx., March 8 at 2129, WTWW-1 is on at S9+40 but with big hum; as always off-frequency-minus (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search March 9 at 0448: 531, 549, 558, 567, 585(2), 603, 612, 621, 639, 666(2), 693*, 711, 774*(2), 783, 801, 837, 846 (TP Kiritimati?), 855, 882, 891, 909, 936(2), 999, 1026, 1044, 1053*, 1089, 1125(2), 1134(2), 1152, 1215, 1314, 1341, 1575. There could be more above 1200 but the splash/QRM levels are worse there. (2) = at least two carriers beating; * = strongest; see also SPAIN 774. At 0652 QRT a quick incomplete rescan finds 576, 639, 693, 711, 774 at least (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 18135-USB, March 8 at 2141, VG ham discussing microphones with inaudible contact, no IDs with several exchanges, grrr! Soon fades down and out, like a sporadic E HF opening few have noticed. Was the OSOB and nothing on 16m SWBC either (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 1840 UT March 9 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/
