Thanks this week for financial support from Terry Colgan, N5RTC of

woradio at yahoo.com, ``thanks for your hard work, keeping us
up-to-date on all things broadcasting.``

** VANUATU. 9960, May 29 at 0547, JBA carrier, so R Vanuatu is back on
air; on indoor random wire during lightning storm. However, Ron Howard
reports:

``May 29 (Thursday UT) am hearing Radio Vanuatu on 9960, BUT is only
with a strong open carrier, with no modulation (no audio!) from 0600+
via SDR remote in NZ. Again have notified the station. Radio Vanuatu
on 9960, at 0658* UT cut off the air; switched to 3945, but again only
with an open carrier with no audio. At 0820 UT, Radio Vanuatu on 3945,
is still just an open carrier with no audio. Radio Vanuatu (3945)
continues with just an open carrier (dead air) at 0920 UT.
Ron, Monterey, Calif`` - and Zacharias Liangas: ``1035z with only
carrier`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2297)

UNIDENTIFIED. Another reply about this: ``Glenn, When I see the
carrier on 6938, it is almost always accompanied what I call “the
ladder” that stretches from a hair over 6942.5 to about 6946. Although
I have recorded hours of broadcasting on 43 meters, and check 6938
regularly, including using USB, I have never seen or heard any audio.

In this shot at around 0145 on 26 May, the 6938 signal is about 30 dB
above the background noise — plenty for something to be heard or seen
on the waterfall if there were something to see or hear. The yellow
band is the bandwidth (1350 Hertz) of the receiver tuned to 6938.000.
Ron Hunsicker`` (via Glenn Hauser, WOR)

(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA [and non]. 11760, May 27 at 2225, S8/S9 of Chinese music with
flutter, i.e. CRI Portuguese service from Xianyang site this hour only
which of course is nothing but fill music, like used to be at 23+ UT
via Cuba 13650. Today however at 2345 check into Georgia SDR, 13650 is
in suptorted English presumably CRI via Cuba, -2400*. As for 11760,
RHC is never heard anymore on its #1 legacy frequency (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15230, May 27 at 2225, S9/+10 of suptorted music, probably
RHC Portuguese service, where something is always wrong. Likewise 24h
later (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) see also CHINA [and non]

** GUATEMALA. 21365 USB, May 27 at 2220, TG9AHM, Guatemala City,
calling CQDX in English. In very quick bandscan seems OSOB, nor
anything on 12 or 10 m. This must be sporadic E on an MUF far below FM

** OKLAHOMA. 95.5, May 28 circa 1700 & 1900 UT, low-power pirate music

Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** PHILIPPINES. 12095, May 27 at 2226, ``Jesus Saves`` music box IS,

WOR)

** SPAIN. 17715 S9+20/30, 15500 S9+10/20, 15520 S9/+10, 15390 S8/S9,
Wed May 28 at 2200, token English from SNR, axually slightly stronger
direct on 17715 for SAm than 15500 for NAm, preview topix about
migration, and flamenco fest in London 20th anniversary. 2201 news
leads with people killed in Canary capsizing; cause of blackout still
unknown. 2207 interviewing authority about migration, lamenting
anti-migrant sentiments led by Trump, as we are all immigrants or
their descendants. Most welcoming toward them is Germany and to a
lessening extent, Canada (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.003-, May 27 at 2215, VOT not off the air but JBA
carrier direct; 2251 into UTwente when measured, S9/+15, in 2-minute
multi-lingual ID filler reel; 2252 s/off as if 1230 on 17620, awry in
Ankara; first notes of IS only twice until chop at 2253*, no finesse
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.004, May 28 at 2159, JBA carrier direct from not off
the air VOT. Into UTwente at 2251 when measured, S9+25/35 amid

awry at Ankara; 2254 IS first notes a sesquitime, erroneous at Emirler
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. Glenn, I got the news just now at 1622 UT, it
(shortwave from the VOA) is over. All PSC are fired. A manager is on
his way to Kuwait to oversee the shutdown of that station and as I
understand it de-commissioning. There will be some folks left to
oversee the shutdown of Greenville. What has happened is, in Trump`s
big, beautiful bill, all funding for the USAGM has been removed. No
money, no shortwave or anything for that matter. I think I`m gonna
drink today. Glenn W7GS/8 (ex-Greenville)(via Glenn Hauser, WOR)

nearby Georgia SDR, but not making it further to remotes in Iowa,
Saskatchewan.

Also confirmed Wednesday May 28 at 1951 the 1930 on SW Radio, Germany,
6160.000, S9/+15; and 3975.002-, S8/9+5 both into UTwente.

Aldo confirmed Wednesday May 28 at 2103 the 2100 on WBCQ 7490 -73 Hz =
7489.927, S6/S9 into Maryland SDR. Next:

0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;
1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160.

Thanks this week for financial support from Doug Brown, a generous
check on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 USA:

great hobby alive. Best Regards & 73s``

** U S A. 9917.1 & 9942.9, May 28 at 2216, parasitic spurs out of 9930
WTWW which is S9+40/50, but no serious splatter. Strange that the
plus/minus 12.9 kHz are sometimes there, sometimes not; different
tunings or different transmitters? Heard before out of 5085 but not
5920, or 9475? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1660, May 28 at 0622 UT tuneby, immediately hear credit to
North Dakota Broadcasters Association, back to Dan Patrick show. So it
is KQWB, West Fargo, allegedly called ``Bison 1660``. Normally
dominant are KWOD Kansas City or KRZI Waco (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 9960, May 28 at 0619, no signal from R. Vanuatu nor on
7260, 7890 or 11835. Ron Howard explains at 0636: ``Radio Vanuatu
(9960 kHz) power problems --- May 28 (Wednesday UT), am hearing
problems on 9960: 0555 to 0607* UT, with very good signal via SDR
remote in New Zealand, till the transmitter suddenly cut off.
*0612-0613*, transmitter back on for a minute, till cut off again.
0613+, still silent through 0635. Have notified the station of the
problem. - - - - - Appreciate the quick reply from Pryce Aptenbel:
"Dear Ron, Thank you for your message and for monitoring our
broadcast. Apologies for the disruption — there was a power cut, which
likely caused the issue you observed. I’m currently on my way to
restart the transmitter and get us back on the air as soon as
possible. We appreciate your continued support and patience. Best
regards" -- 0730 UT - Radio Vanuatu still silent on 9960. Ron,
Monterey, Calif.``

``9960 - No signal heard here at 1030 UT {May 28}. I have been hearing
them on this frequency and at this time with fair signals over the
past week but nothing this morning. Stephen C Wood - KC1QEM, Cape Cod,

Logs
** ANTARCTICA. On May 26 I have sent this inquiry to Adrián Korol of
RAE: ``Todavía esperamos señales en 15476 de LRA36; parece que no
aparezca en 2025. ¿Puede informarnos qué pasa, por qué se demora, o
nunca más? Gracias, Glenn Hauser, World of Radio``

``We are still awaiting signals on 15476 from LRA36; it seems not to
be appearing in 2025. Could you inform us what is happening, why the
delay, or never again? Thanks, Glenn Hauser``

His reply - translation below:

``Hola Glenn.

15476.

Quedo a disposición
73 Adrián``

Hi Glenn. Thanks for your email first of all. Unfortunately, the 15476
USB (Collins HF80) equipment suffered an unrepairable fault in
Antarctica and was returned to the RADIO NACIONAL plant in Pacheco for
repairs. The Armed Forces have also obtained similar equipment, which
was also transported to Pacheco. Pacheco technicians have begun repair
and adjustment work to ensure that at least one of these two devices
is operational for LRA36. Due to weather conditions, transport from
Pacheco to LRA36 is no longer possible until next October. Until then,
we hope to repair the transmitter equipment and conduct test
broadcasts from Pacheco. We will provide updates in the coming
months.

On the other hand, LRA36 continues to broadcast its program Sonidos de
La Antártida on Saturdays, starting this past Saturday the 24th, via
streaming on the RAE website and Radio Nacional. The program, although
streaming, originates from LRA36.

Messages on social media from LRA36, especially on Facebook and
Instagram, requesting the LRA 36's prompt return to shortwave will be
a welcome sign of support to consolidate and prioritize the return to
15476.

I remain at your disposal. 73 Adrián``

Reply on the WOR iog: ``Never saw anything about the big announcement
from 2023 again, so this plan got the chainsaw if it was ever
realistic at all?

https://swling.com/blog/2023/09/radio-nacional-arcangel-san-gabriel-receives-a-new-shortwave-transmitter/
And there may be some people who still wonder if they just find no one
to produce stuff in German or have done with that language. Kai
Ludwig`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** BRAZIL. I hadn`t tried to hear the token English from RNB/RNA
lately, but after someone reported the entire 10 minutes was in
English, not half Spanish, I check again UT Tue May 27 via ``local``
remote in ``Brasila``, where the two signals are not strong at all,
unseem local, 6180 & 11780. At 0150 English introduxion of interview
with the Secretary of Culture, Pará state, leading up to a UN
conference on climate change, November, in Belém. Seems to be a
repeat; 0154 IDs and switch to Spanish saying this is part 4 of that.
Enough, already (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 1600 kHz, Mon May 26 at 2213 UT, talking about flowers in
the Sonoran desert -- and 2214 outro  `National Native News` from
Koahnic Broadcasting, with CPB funding. At daytime this is KUSH
Cushing, a commercial station. NNN is mostly on public radio stations,
and its affiliate list misses KUSH in OK, just the KCCU, KGOU
stations, and KCNP of the Chickasaw.
https://www.nv1.org/stations-affiliates/oklahoma/

It originates at KUNM in Albuquerque, but produced by Koahnic
Broadcast Corporation, which is in Anchorage, Alaska. Quite a variety
of programming, but can`t find a plain old program schedule:
https://www.1600kush.com/onair/native-air-with-hugh-foley
This outdated page does not say when Native Air airs, nor refer to
NNN, but, with linx to each: ``Tribes in the KUSH Listening Area: Sac
and Fox Nation, Pawnee Nation, Muscogee (Creek) Nation, Iowa Tribe of
OK, Osage Nation, Citizen Potawatomi Nation, Cherokee Nation, Absentee
Shawnee, Otoe-Missouria Tribe, Ponca Tribe, Kickapoo Tribe of OK``

At night, KATZ St Louis owns 1600 here, if not KEPN CO, but KUSH, U1
70 watts at night, made it to Terry L Krueger, NW FL: ``1600 OKLAHOMA
KUSH, Cushing 1031 30 APR 2025 Real C&W, Americana, Bluegrass vocals.
Man "You're listening to The Kush, 1600... and 101 point 5 FM,
Cushing, Oklahoma..." Very nice level on occasional peaks. Surprised
to catch an Oklahoman on 1600. First time log`` (Glenn Hauser, Enid,
WOR)

** SPAIN. 15500, 15520, 15390, 17715, Mon May 26 at 2158, all four
RNEs on air, but quick check shows the three 15s are in three
different programs. EiBi shows until 2200 days 135 = MWF, 15390
Arabic, 15500 Sefardi, 15520 Russian - yes, the latter on ME beam
since that`s the closest they can get to Russia! At 2200 they all
merge for SFR English with a preview, 2201 news leading with at least
57 killed in Gaza last night. 2210 something about popular stories,
humorous comix (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785, May 26 at 2157, VOT not off the air, JBA IS &
English ID direct. At 2256 I tune in UTwente just in time to hear VG

** U S A. 4840, May 27 at 0615 UT, some really nice banjo music,
probably hymn tunes, S9+30 direct from WWCR; but everything crashes at
0617 when Brother Scare resumes crying out from the grave (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 6000, May 27 at 0620, some unreadable JBA talk and
music, S8 direct = noise level; off at 0631 recheck. Nothing but
RHCuba is listed in Aoki & EiBi; AIR Leh might start at 0630 or 0700
if it were not silent, and not propagable anyway from midday there.
RHC would normally be much stronger but hardly modulated in English or
maybe Spanish by this hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9236.0, May 26 at 2204, open carrier with wideband clix
JBA in noise level every two or three seconds. Another of these things
ending in ---6. What are they? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 13682-13705 approx., May 26 at 2208, OTH radar clickery,
peaking S9 amid, but no broadcasters being blasted; altho EiBi shows
China could be on 13690, tsk2 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
