Logs
** CANADA. 6070, re my hearing the TED Radio Hour on CFRX, Eric
Bueneman, MO, ptsw iog replied:

``Eric Bueneman 4:54am #8688 TED is NOT an NPR show. It is a Canadian
show aired on commercial stations throughout Canada``

I reply: NPR thinx it`s an NPR show!
https://www.npr.org/programs/ted-radio-hour?showDate=2020-02-28
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TED_Radio_Hour

It`s a joint TED/NPR produxion, carried on NPR in USA, but iHeart in
Canada, CBC not being interested? I believe I have also heard it on
RNZ(I). Or is this a totally different TED show in Canada? I think
not. I did hear NPR mentioned on CFRX as it started (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. 13740, March 1 at 1518, RHC still on with S9+40 of dead air,
or rather with volume all the way up, trace of modulation, maybe same
as modulated 13700 which is much weaker than usual, only S9+10 and
spurless. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15700, March 1 at 1519, CRI Plus relay is much weaker than
usual, only S9-S8 and undermodulated to boot. Something`s always wrong
at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. 6184.974, March 2 at 0038, XEPPM is S9+10 but JBM ---
close, but not exactly back on-frequency. Wolfgang Bueschel
independently measured same offset via FL SDR at 2230 March 1, after
Vatican closed 6185.000 at 2230:03, having mixed with it from 2224
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 267 kHz, March 1 at 0730, ND beacon HET, which is 25
watts from Henryetta OK, not heard before, I think. Copying the very
weak signal, tuned to 265-USB, I was not sure whether there were a
space between the E and the T, or single letter A, i.e. HA, but there
is no HA anywhere around this frequency (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. 1520, March 2 at 0259 UT, bit of music from
KOKC and a minute of dead air --- just what we need to check for
sporadic daytimer KYND Cypress TX, which Paul Walker reported on air
last night with business barker loop it used to run a lot last year
--- but no sign of it now, just weak CCI from who knows what until
KOKC resume at 0300 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** RWANDA [non]. 15420, Feb 29 at 1857 African song S9-S8, cut off at
1859* with no announcement; but scheduled as Radio Itahuka, weekly
target/clandestine, Sat 18-19 via MADAGASCAR (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
[Date correct, overlooked for previous report]

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2023 monitoring: confirmed Sunday
March 1 at 2130 on WRMI 7780, JBA vs high noise level (HNL)

Also confirmed UT Monday March 2 at 0130 on WRMI 7780, fair-poor via
UTwente SDR, deep fades.

Also confirmed UT Monday March 2 at 0230 on WRMI 9395, VG via Rockport
ME KiwiSDR; 7780 fair-poor via UTwente; also confirmed on WRN webcast.
0256 recheck direct on R75: 7780 good S9+10, 9395 JBA carrier. Note: from
next week the 9395 airing *may* move back to 0130 UT Monday.

Also confirmed UT Mon Mar 2 at 0400 on Area 51 webcast; 5130 WBCQ good
via KiwiSDR in Maryland but not Massachusetts. Note: from next week this
will be at 0300 UT Monday.

Also confirmed UT Mon Mar 2 at 0430 on WRMI webcast, but 9955 direct
is JBA carrier; nor can I find it on any of several SDRs in South and
North America; maybe a trace of it at Ottawa. Note: from next week this
will be at 0330 UT Monday. Next:

0900 UT Monday Unique Radio NSW 5045-USB
0930 UT Monday Unique Radio NSW 5045-USB [another episode]
1900vUT Monday IRRS 7290 Romania? to WNW
0100 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to NE
0900 UT Wednesday Unique Radio NSW 5045-USB
2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE

Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts:
http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. (7490.16v), March 1 after 2300, WBCQ webcast of `Uncle
Bill`s Melting Pot` continues filling second half of hour with repeats
of vintage shows, rather than `Radio Free Chicago`, deal must have
fallen through, and UB says from April new UBMPs will be a full hour
long each week both on WBCQ and Channel 292.

Note, DST in North America starts already next Sunday March 8, so UBMP
will then be Sundays at 22-23 UT, as WBCQ operates by local time
despite being an international SW station.

`Encore` classical music from Radio Tumbril still on WBCQ 7490/webcast
after 0100 UT Monday March 2; not clear whether this be the last time
like it was on WWCR Feb 29 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9455, March 2 at 0256, this WRMI is JBA S4-S6, like 9395,
boding ill for `Encore` classical music on new relay at 0300. Recheck
at 0325 via Rockport ME KiwiSDR, it`s L&C VG! during operatic arias.
Almost as good via Bridgewater MA, but not so good further west (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs February 29-March 1, 2020  View Printable Version
Sunday, March 01 2020

Logs
** ASCENSION [and non]. 15685, Feb 29 at 1900, hyper Hausa talk at
S8-S7, where normally there is nothing. This is BBC on Saturdays only
at 1700-1930, existing solely to broadcast silly ballgames; how
considerate. There is also some scratchy splatter on the plus side,
but no bigsig nearby to produce it. I think that as in times past it`s
spurious from afar 15825 WWCR-1, which is getting a sporadic E boost
to S9+10 also audiblizing the squeal. But I can`t hear anything like
it equally plus circa 15963; it`s asymmetric (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA [and non]. 245 kHz, Feb 29 at 0707 UT, dash and YZE, 1000
watt NDB from Gore Bay, Ontario; mixing with FS at different pitch,
which is 400 watts from Sioux Falls - Rock, South Dakota (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 332 kHz, Feb 29 at 0710 UT, dash and YFM, 2500 watt NDB
from La Grande 4, Quebec. New one here, from where, and why is there a
figure 4 in the place? ``The La Grande-4 is a hydroelectric generating
station on the La Grande River that is part of Hydro-Québec's James
Bay Project. The station can generate 2,779 MW and was commissioned in
1984–1986. It generates electricity through the reservoir and dam
system. Wikipedia``. Atop a weaker co-channel I can`t copy (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 6070-, always offset-minus, Feb 29 at 2304, `TED Radio
Hour` from NPR is starting! Bet you did not know that CFRX is an NPR
station. You would still not know that by consulting the sked which
hides it among `Viewpoints` at 6-9 pm ET Sat = 23-02 UT now, but in a
biweek 22-01 UT:
https://www.iheartradio.ca/newstalk-1010/shows/viewpoints-1.1761551
Evidently on other Canadian iHeart stations, and don`t depend on TED
being at the same, or any time, from week to week. Poor reception and
busy so I don`t try to determine the topic. Too bad there are no US SW
stations wanting to pick up NPR shows (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA [and non]. 9535, Feb 29 at 2315, Chinese overcoming weak RHC
Spanish with a medium SAH: CNR1 jamming against RFA Tibetan via Kuwait
this hour only (also sked: CRI English via Kunming). Commies vs
Commies vs Commies! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA [and non]. 13650, Feb 29 at 2329, JBA signal must be NHK, as
there is NO Chinese music fill from CRI via CUBA --- must be off the
air, as 13740 RHC is inbooming S9+45. Something`s always wrong at
RadioCuba.

6100, fortunately can still be heard Feb 29 at 2327 with Chinese music
fill instead of CRI Portuguese direct to Brasil longpath from Beijing
site, S9+ (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11760, Feb 29 at 1907, RHC with S9 of dead air; while 15140
modulation is distorted as always. Somethings` always wrong at RHC
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15369.2+, Feb 29 at 2325, RHC JBA S3-S4, remaining way
off-frequency for day 18. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR) See also CHINA [and non]

** MEXICO. 6185.0, Feb 29 at 2306, undermodulated music must be XEPPM
since no signal any more on 6185.7, where it had been off-frequency
since Feb 8, two sesquiweeks ago. Someone must have rebumped the
transmitter. By 0052 March 1, better modulation and S9+30 with a song
on 6185.0 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 341 kHz, Feb 29 at 0711 UT, after inaudible a few days,
Enid`s own NDB, EI, is again audible despite HNL (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 1210 kHz, UT March 1 at 0029 UT, KGYN Guymon is blasting
in S9+25 on presumed 10 kW ND day pattern. No one replied, not even me
until now, to my request to check whether it`s going direxional at
official LSS in Feb, 0030. During stupid ballgame involving some
``Lady Rebels`` and stays same past 0030, but signal suddenly drops
down at 0031:25 to only S9 and CCI is now audible. So yes, they are
--- but still seems more than it should be with null toward Philly.
Remains quite dominant. From tomorrow, the switch time will be 0045 UT
(Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. 27185, Feb 29 at 1942, the #1 CB channel is
jammed locally by a big noise, which is on a lot of the time. Some
signals override it, or is it the same transmitter alternating
modulation? If you hear this during an opening, it could well be from
Enid. 27025 is full of hetting AM signals from the skip pileup (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960, Feb 29 at 2302, VOT manages to transmit today, only
fair; at 2328 I can tell a `Letterbox` is underway but modulation and
signal too low to copy (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 6993.0, February 29 at 2309, at least two JBA carriers
beating a few Hz apart, i.e. presumed propagation researchers in
Florida, WH2XWF as explained in previous report (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A. 21305-USB, Feb 29 at 1948, ``CQ South Carolina QSO Party``
over and over from N4XL, Greenwood SC. Once in a while gets an unheard
reply surely from outside SC on this band. N4XL is Kevan K. Nason,
recently retired and into contesting. About to declare him the OSOB
until I hear an unID on 21285-USB. Also checked the 10, 12 and 17 m
bands, but heard no activity at all, unlike 11m CB. MUF maps show
sporadic E blobs in the 20/30 MHz range east of here (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2023 monitoring: Ivo Ivanov,
Bulgaria reports that WRMI-9 did not come up on 15770 until 1400
Saturday February 29 with SMTV, thus missing WOR at 1300 and SWRG at
1330. Has happened before; what about next weeks?

Confirmed UT Sunday March 1 at 0422 on WA0RCR, 1860-AM, good via
Peoria KiwiSDR, about 8 minutes in so started circa 0414. Next:
2130 UT Sunday WRMI 7780 to NE
0130 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to NE
0230 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to NE, 9395 to NNW
0400vUT Monday WBCQ 5130v Area 51 to WSW
0430 UT Monday WRMI 9955 to SSE
0900 UT Monday Unique Radio NSW 5045-USB
0930 UT Monday Unique Radio NSW 5045-USB [another episode]
1900vUT Monday IRRS 7290 Romania? to WNW
0100 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to NE
0900 UT Wednesday Unique Radio NSW 5045-USB
2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE

Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts:
http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 7490.16v, March 1 at 0037, surprised to hear TOMBS --- a new
time? There has long been strange gap in WBCQ online sked, 0040-0100
UT Sun after 100 minutes of `Good Time Oldies` and before `Available
Time Slot` usually occupied by an `AAAWWW` repeat (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A. 9955, Feb 29 at 2319, WRMI with gospel huxters in
Portuguese2, not Brasilian, i.e. Frank & Ernest as sked Sat 2315 ---
and NO jamming. Would that 24 hours earlier during WOR that were also
true (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5850, UT Sun March 1 at 0100, `Encore` classical music from
Scotland, first airing on WRMI, VG signal aimed thisaway but some
fading. Now one cannot be tempted to listen via webcast since there
isn`t any from WRMI except 9955 System B. Another play is coming UT
Monday 0300 on 9455 to the NNW. Tnx to Jeff White for WRMI now
`sponsoring` this (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5085, UT Sun March 1 at 0127, anonymous theatre organ show
is underway on WTWW-2, unlike a few minutes earlier; recheck at 0155
is already over playing request for ``Jump``. Unfortunately now during
same hour as `Encore` on WRMI (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 6920-LSB, March 1 at 0033, 2-way with squeals, Spanish
talking about animalitos, Chihuahuas. No sign of any North American
pirates on this or 5 or 4 MHz bands despite Saturday night and SWL
WinterFest (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

WORLD OF RADIO HITLIST UPDATE

Hi Glenn, My latest Hitlist update.
https://www.w4uvh.net/hitlist.htm

1) India - All India R: Updated link to daily "cuesheet" pdf
2) Taiwan - R Taiwan Int: Updated links to frequency and programme
pages
3) USA - WBCQ/WRMI: moved Encore Classical Music programme link from
WBCQ to WRMI

Unless there's a major change anywhere, the next update will be mid
March (DST changes). Best wishes and 73 (Alan Roe, Feb 28)

** CANADA. 6754-USB, Feb 28 at 0645 check, CHR is off again - maybe
just a break, not continuous; propagation OK as CHU 7850-CUSB is VG.

15034-USB, Feb 28 at 1447, Trenton Military is still on here, VG.

6754-USB, Feb 29 at 0001, ``Comox, Comox, no report received. Trenton
Military, Out`` -- so on but breaking again (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15369.23, Feb 28 at 2327, RHC S9+20, overmodulated/distorted
and still way off-frequency, day 17. Something`s always wrong at RHC
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. Weather warm-up leads to some minor tropo; Hepburn map
shows level 1 enhancement roughly over southern half of OK, not
including Enid, as of 1500 UT Feb 28.

Channel 51 to 7 bandscan circa 1530 UT finds two, but only two, BAD DX
signals where none appear normally, RF 36 and RF 35. 35 is slightly
stronger so I stay on it and it starts to partially decode; animated
kidvid in English, Indian theme. E/I bug in the upper right; tiny bug
in LR looks like FNN?

Certainly not KUOK Woodward with Univision. Of the six LP or
translators in OK on RF 35, the obvious fit in W9WI.com is 15 kW,
K47MU-D in Concho, still showing its former call when on RF 47,
programming being FNX. What`s that?

Rabbitears.info includes it in the OKC market with new call K35MV-D,
licensed to the Cheyenne-Arapaho Tribes, tower 2 miles west of US 81,
about halfway between St Hwy 3 and El Reno, NW of OKC. And the net:

https://www.rabbitears.info/search.php?request=network_search&network=First+Nations+Experience

Originates at San Bernardino Community College, shows 28 scattered
affiliates around the country, and leads to own:
https://fnx.org/
which explains, ``First Nations Experience --- FNX is The first and
only nationally broadcast television network in the U.S. exclusively
devoted to Native American and World Indigenous content.`` I wonder if
it Must be carried on Cox Cable OKC? Is it easily visible elsewise?

Its current program sked shows what I am seeing:

``Bizou and the Groundhog #127
Friday, February 28, 09:30 am on FNX NAT - Duration: 0:22:01
Description: Come sing and dance with Bizou as she takes you on a
picturesque journey into the wonderful world of groundhogs, nature's
cutest little digger. [CC] Broadcast In: English``

Most likely RF 36 is in OKC proper, KUOK-CD, sibling or tail wagging
dog of KUOK RF 35 in Woodward, defacto Univision affiliate for OKC.
That`s why the full power UNI signal from RF 29 KTUZ Shawnee, shared
with Telemundo and Estrella, remaps to ``36``, so locals might get
either, or both and not tell them apart. But there are a bunch of
other LP 36s around the state (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960, Feb 28 at 2327, VOT English is AWOL again (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 11720, Fri Feb 28 around 2140 UT, caradio turned on to loud
exotic ME/African music, soon proven to be `Music Time in Africa`, as
Hyper Heather names herself at next and every break: what an ego trip!
Despite this I listen for the music on this bigsig which will probably
be deleted a month from now in the A-season, with this hour back to
15580 and back to Botswana.

Toward hourend she plays only snippets and talx over them. I know I am
not going to change the world about this, but as a classical music
announcer I would *never* talk over the music (except during a
well-established and repeated program theme), as that would be
disrespectful to the music, composers and performers, and annoying to
listeners.

I would also apply this ethic to any genre an announcer is hosting.
(Yet a lot of rock songs deliberately provide instrumental lead-ups
for DJs to yammer. Great continuity?)

As always, closing summary of several weekend MTIA times misses this
very one; she has been adding ``hundred`` to times not ending in 00,
but that happens only once this week, ``2205-hundred``. A cleaner
transition than usual to Yankee-Doodle-Dandy VOA sign-off, but that is
still being chopped off at 2200:39*, a few notes before it concludes:
more disrespect or sloppyration (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. (7490.2v), UT Sat Feb 29 at 0100, WBCQ webcast filling with
Loutuma Girl, so we know who`s next, despite William Tell Overture to
follow. TimTron blubbers and belches before it`s over. Opening says he
was not feeling well last two weeks when asked to do it, wants to do a
show of significance instead of pulling one out of his ass. Thinx Lyme
disease is resurging in him. Soon announces current date correctly of
Feb 28, YOOL 2020. Acknowledges SWL Winterfest now underway not in
Kulpsville PA any more. Into discussion of Drumpf`s PIRATE Act, or
rather reading an article about it. Soon into hard rock, which AW
never plays when on his show himself, except maybe in an emergency.

At 0119 I switch to SW 7490.17 direct where it`s S9+10, as TTT said,
``simulcasting on 5130, I believe``. Yes, and that sounds stronger here
but also reads S9/+10. Back to discussing PIRATE act, advises not to
broadcast ads or QRM aeronautical, which is main objexion leading to
pirate act. Mentions ham traffic nets which are no longer needed, but
just social nets like ``Lonely Guys`` tomorrow. Reads part of WAPO
article about someone wanting permission from UK and USA to retrieve
Marconi radio equipment from the RMS Titanic wreck --- and restore it?
Probably nothing any good left of it. Going inside the wreck, grave of
1500 souls, has been disallowed so far. 0132 song. 0137 suddenly
conversation with a caller about PIRATE act, not worth risking $ 100K
fines; until 0152 more rock; never heard him identified. 0143 both
fading down, and 0147 I go back to webcast. Belch at 0158:35 as TT is
upwrapping, 0159 `Happy Trails to You` not by Roy Rogers, somewhat
off-key; canned singing ID with the Q of WBCQ cut short before it
resolve, into Hal Turner theme, tune-out!

BTW, two or three times during the hour I quickly scanned the 4+ and
7- MHz pirate radio bands and heard not a one, despite SWL Fest
underway. Have they really been scared off SW by the PIRATE act? But
then I seldom hear any, while others further east do. Fest`ers might
be later at night than usual.

Does anyone know of any live non-pirate SWBCs planned from the Fest?
Not I; most likely would appear on some WRMI or WBCQ/Area 51 shows.

Here`s John Carver`s summary of AAAWWW:

``Tonight's show started a bit late this evening with TimTron as host.
Decent signal on 7490 this evening. 5130 had the transmitter on but no
program till about three minutes after TOH. Mentions of the SWL Fest
in PA going on this weekend. Tim says his Lyme disease has flared up
again and he is back on heavy antibiotics again. Jumps into reading an
article on the new Pirate Radio law signed last month. Then into some
music. Back into pirate radio after the music and then read an article
about an effort to remove the radio equipment from the wreckage of the
Titanic.

Back to pirate radio and makes an effort to point out the difference
between a low power SW pirate and pirates that operate in the AM and
FM bands and at the top of the FM band then into some more music.
After the music ended Mr. Mike popped up on the air and the discussion
of pirate radio continued for awhile and then into some more music.
Program was over at 0200. John, Mid-North Indiana`` (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)
