Hauser
** ALGERIA. May 29 at 0320, direct, nor into UTwente, nothing on 9700
when Ifrikya FM is supposed to be nor on 9500 at 0300-0600, per EiBi,
and HFCC with no alternates registered; so where is that? Or resting
for two sesquihours? Still nothing at 0414, 0546.

17600, May 29 at 0657, now Ifrikya FM is on and propagating across
night path, S7/S8 music; might have netted some floating English if
intuned by 0635. 0700 accurate TS and news in French starting with UN
Security Council. The SSOB by far; only other 16m significant is JBA
carrier on 17855, the China radio war at 06-07: RFA via TINIAN, CNR1
or Firedrake jammer per EiBi.

17600.000, May 29 at 1829, S9/+15 into UTwente, ending English ID,
music. No floating English rest of half hour. Grandiosely it`s `La
Voix Africaine` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** BENIN. 1566, TWR: see UNIDENTIFIED, pro-forma

** BRAZIL. 9818.8345, May 29 at 0336, JBA carrier direct, as carefully
measured on the R75 compared to WWV; so R. Nove de Julho is back.
Wolfgang Büschel also reported it a bit earlier May 29: ``9818.836 BRA
R 9 de Julho Port, S=8 -75dB in EUR 00.31 UT, S=6 in MA state`` (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. MW ND beacons: see UNIDENTIFIED [and non]: QT, YXL

** CUBA. 9790, May 29 at 0335, CRI English relay is S9+40/50 direct
with two raspy spurs approx., 9785 & 9795, impossible to pin on exact
frequencies. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** ROMANIA [and non]. 9700, May 29 at 0200, RRI opening Spanish, VG
into UTwente and into Missouri SDR, no sign at either of RHC Spanish
which has intermittently appeared here (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) See
also ALGERIA

** SAUDI ARABIA. 11935, May 29 at 1829 quickcheck, horrible buzzroar
into UTwente (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Wed May 29 at 2200, token English from SNR, S9/+10
direct and the other three detectable; opening headline is that three
more countries have recognized Palestine as a state, Ireland, Norway
and Spain for a total of 146. Israel objects to Spain. After news,
discussion about this. I daresay that`s a lot more than recognize East
Turkistan (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.009, May 29 at 2159, VOT not off the air, audible
direct with IS & ID. 2212 about May 29, 1463? when Istanbul was
conquered. 2227 S9+9/15 into Maryland SDR when measured. 2238 `Sports
Panorama` by Ms Badax. 2245 ``always-by-your-side`` promo, song. 2250
``with you every hour`` promo, song. 2253 s/off again ignoring SW, on
the way out? 2254.4 IS, 2258.7* chopoff (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [non]. 17655 & 15580, May 29 at 1906, both VOA SAO TOME and
BOTSWANA with same music, into Canary Is SDR; was supposedly going to
broadcast a silly basketball game in Portuguese between 1800/1830 and
2030, in a championship series live from Rwanda, presumably if and
when an Angolan team participated. UTwente gets 15580 only; the two
SDRs in RSA get neither! and appear to be deaf wideband. 1910 hummy
Portuguese announcement about this; one team is Tigers, from Cidade do
Cabo = Cape Town. Maybe a pause in game. Soon back to game excitedly.
1918 feed starts breaking up, switch to another studio for a bit
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2244 monitoring: confirmed Tuesday
May 28 at 2332 the 2330 on SW Gold Radio, Germany, 3975.004, S9+5/15
into UTwente.

Also confirmed Tuesday May 28 at 2332 the 2330 on WRMI 9395, S9+15/25
into Missouri SDR.

Also confirmed Wednesday May 29 at 1930 on SW Gold Radio, Germany,
into UTwente, 6160.000 S9/+15; and 3975.002 S9+5.

Also confirmed Wednesday May 29 at 2100 on WBCQ 7490-, S6/S9; recheck
for measurement 7489.933, it`s in dead air, hope not during WOR.
Next:

2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW;
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW;
1630 UT Thursday SW Gold/Radio, Germany 6160.

** U S A. Near-blackout May 29 at 1453 bandscan direct: on 31m, no
WRMIs, no WBCQ 9330, just 9980 WWCR very attenuated S4/S6. Only JBA
carriers from: 11930, 13845, 15770, 15825; WRMI 17790 at 1458 is S5
JBA. WWV reported:

(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1130 kHz, May 29 at 0316 UT into the R75, the E/W loop gets
KWKH with very little QRM, but switching to the N/S shortwire, rock
music dominates, no doubt reactivated KLEY Wellington KS running
250-watt day power at night.

Then at 0649 UT May 29, on the NRD545 with main E/W longwire, Fox
Sports Radio no doubt KWKH mixing with music presumed KLEY and at
least one other station. KLEY not dominating at night like it used to
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Re the 1160 unID Spanish RCC station, KCTO: Where is
Cleveland, Missouri, anyway? Not even in my Rand McNally Atlas index,
but shows in the Large Scale version as due south of Kansas City, just
barely east of the KS/MO border. If the longitude there be exactly the
same as on State Line Road in the city of KC, 94°36′26.7″W, the long.
of the site as in radio-locator.com, 94 36 28.8 W, puts it slightly on
the KANSAS side. However, pin on the Google map link puts it about
562.5 feet EAST of the border in MISSOURI! Coverage map cross for site
is right on the state line, but zooming in on one of them looks like
barely in MO. Why couldn`t MO & KS fix their border at some ``even``
longitude? Why couldn`t KCTO put its towers exactly on the state line
to further flummox us? Well, it`s a `road` even that far out of the
City, crossing circa 250th Street. Another tiny town achieves world
fame by hosting a minor radio station as its ``City of License``.

Meanwhile, more from Greg Hardison: ``Glenn: – Re UNID on 1160 kHz,
this might be the best we'll do: http://hosannachristiannetwork.com/
Hosanna Christian Network - Linked to, from MW-List under KCTO/1160
entry. Page is entirely in Spanish; page-link allegedly for Online
audio leads to an "Error 404" page. – el otro G H``

Mauno Ritola, Finland, WRTH, replies: ``Tim Hall and the other GH is
right; it carries now Radio María USA Español and MW list had last
year's info. Just listened to it via Kansas City KiwiSDR and heard the
attached ID. An update has been sent to mwlist.org and it should be up
soon with the correct links and the ID. 73, Mauno``

His clip has ID in English for KCTO plus two FMs - translators no
doubt, in Kansas City proper; net timecheck for Eastern & Central
zones only, list of stations in several states, NOT including this
one, but including on a subcarrier of 99.5 WBAI New York, which is
Pacifica!

I listened for it again May 28 circa 0645 UT: nothing but a weak KSL?
Rather than propagation, if KCTO, I think it must have been on 5 kW
day power when it was dominating. Both day and night patterns are
slightly clockwise from N/S, and theoretically without much signal
thisaway to its southwest (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED [and non]. Local line noise level worst on LW & MW, has
abated slightly, so I can at least detect some NDB carriers, but not
enough to copy IDs. Tentatively based on previous experience:

365 kHz, May 29 at 0653: most likely AA, 100 watts of Fargo ND really
in MN
346 kHz, May 29 at 0654: surely YXL, 1000 watts at Sioux Lookout,
Ontario
344 kHz, May 29 at 0655: previously, JA, 400 watts at Jaxonvil FL
332 kHz, May 29 at 0656: barely copiable, dash and QT, 1000 watts at
Thunder Bay, Ontario - if any Canadian can make it, this is it. Cannot
hear IC Wichita KS mixing on 332 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1230 kHz, May 29 at 0647 UT, approx. 1 kHz tones lasting
7 seconds between pauses lasting 3 seconds, in graveyard pileup mix.
Suspect it`s a failed satellite feed instead of programming or
deliberate testing somewhere. Does anyone recognize this pattern? My
closest, WBBZ Ponca City OK, cannot dominate at night (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1566 kHz, May 29 at 0330, JBA carrier into R75, on both
antennas but slightly stronger on the E/W Wellbrook loop. Toward the
end of a perfunctory JBA MW carrier search in USB upward at 9 kHz
intervals, 1 kHz below each E Hemisphere channel. Nothing at all heard
lower vs very noisy summer conditions plus my local line noise.

This has got to be TWR BENIN, which I`ve heard before much more easily
in winter. Now in summer it has an advantage to North America, lower
latitude path far from the Midnight Sun: maxes out less than 40-north
in the Atlantic just outside Washington DC where the G.C. path from
Parakou to Enid enters North America; also, 100 kW, far more power
than anything in Europe, max 1 kW! Only more than that is 10 kW from
Iran. Nothing else of any power in Africa, all per mwlist; but shows
*0345; maybe they run open carrier before sign-on.

I am reminded to check for it by this on the IRCA iogroup May 27 but
lacking a time!: ``Benin 1566 in S. Alberta --- Weak, but clear and
distinct sign-on bells/chimes from TWR Benin on 1566 last night. I am
away in Spain right now so logging into my remote via my iPhone so
file reviews not very complete. 73, Steve Ve6wz Sundre AB``

Of course, there are several more 1566s in east Asia & Pacific, but
now all in the Dayside, 25 kW or less, except 250 kW FEBC Korea South.
The only other extremely remote possibilities than Benin would be an
American accidentally 4 kHz off-frequency, or pirate deliberately as a
DX spoiler. Another time, lacking any audio, should try to DF it
and/or check remotes such as Canary Islands as early as 0330 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

Hauser
** BRAZIL. 9819v, May 27 at 0649, no signal direct from R. Nove de
Julho; normally no more than a JBA carrier on signature off-frequency,
but not noticed late-night for some time. Could it be another gone
forever? ZY propagation is OK with RVM 9665v audible. Manuel Méndez,
Spain, reported May 26: ``9819, Rádio 9 de Julho, São Paulo, checked
this weekend at different times, it seems out of the air, just like
last weekend`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 24950 USB, May 27 at 2294, VE1SK calling CQ Parx on the
Air. Only phonesig on 12m and none on 10m. QRZ.com: ``VE1SK Canada
flag Canada, Stephen "Steve" Albert, 177 SUNNYLEA ROAD, WELLINGTON, NS
B2T 1A2, Canada`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 13820, May 27 at 0638, pulsejamming not only impossible time
for R. Martí but also impossible season, yet none on 13605, the
A-season frequency it never runs overnight. More PJ against nothing at
0640 on 11860, stronger 9565; 0653 on 7355 & 7365. Yet 5025 Rebelde is
OFF at 0657; first things first! Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba
and the DentroCuban Jamming Command (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** PERU. 4775.15 approx., May 27 at 0659, S5 JBA signal with music,
0700 Spanish with R. Tarma ID vs some CODAR swirshing. One of few
Peruvians left on SW. . Normally never heard overnight. On April 24,
at 0108-0136, Gianni Serra reported it on 4774.900v into UTwente.
Usually detectable overnight: 4810 JBA carrier vs utehash from R.
Logos, Chazuta (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Mon May 27 at 2200, token English from SNR, VG
S9+20/30 direct, and other 3 frequencies detectable, 15520, 17715,
15390. Feature after news to be about a May 16 move by the European
Commission against Meta over impact of social media upon children and
teens, the Digital Services Act, interviewing spokesperson about risk
to minors of addixion.

I see the Friday May 24 (``25``) podcast is now available:
``Michael Ignatieff and our stubborn historical patterns``
https://www.rtve.es/play/audios/english-language-broadcast/michael-ignatieff-and-our-stubborn-historical-patterns/16120420/
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) see also UNIDENTIFIED

** TURKEY. 11795.009, May 27 at 2209, VOT English is here instead of
11785! Punch-up error? At 2158 tuning direct found no sig on 11785 or
9875, presumed off; but tuning up to compare 11800 RRI reception, at
2209 I hit SW Asian music, drumming and chanting, on 11795 where there
is normally nothing at this hour, surely not VOT which would be in
olds this early in hour. But at 2213 English intro by the only OM
announcer, to `The Energy Agenda`, a VOT program! This rates S9/+20,
stronger than RRI.

At 2222 via UTwente measured as above, usual +9 Hz offset like
11785.009 had been. Into UTw heavy ACI from Romania 11800, inescapable
even by LSB tuning. 2223 `That`s Why`, Ms Badax, something about
salinity in the oceans covering 2/3 of Earth; then music. 2243
``with-you-every-hour`` promo, more music. 2247
``always-by-your-side`` promo, more music. 2252 WYEH again. 2253 s/off
as if satellite and internet only, so no chance of citing 11785 or
11795; and into IS until chopoff at 2254.7*. Which frequency will VOT
not be on tomorrow? Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [non]. 17655, May 27 at 1550, S7/9+10 into TWR RSA SDR, song
from VOA, not Portuguese coverage of silly basketball tournament in
Rwanda as had been previewed. Site is SAO TOME. Supposed to be //15580
BOTSWANA with that, but separate music, seems instrumental pop music
only, no announcements, fill? 17655 announcement in English, 1553 ID
as VOA-One. 1600 news in English while 15580 continues music. 1638,
17655 a semi-minute deadair break. By 1703, 17655 is in Portuguese
into UTwente, VATICAN site now; 15580 still music: not Chinese, but
beware of CNR1 jammer and SOH on 15580 at 23-17 per Aoki.

I suspect that Angola was a loser on Saturday, so next round on Monday
would be inconsequential? But by 1900 when I`m not getting anything on
17655 into Africa, I do hear some S3/S4 weak but enthusiastic
Portuguese into UTwente, maybe play-by-play; special time reserved
until 2030 also on 15580 much better, yes with 23-28 score at 1901,
S9+5/20 on 15579.981. ``Three-minute pause`` with music starts at
1908, until 1913 when the two pbp guys resume chat but not yet game.
Constant background hum, feed defect? Later resumed pbp. I wonder
which pays which to be on VOA? Not to mention US taxpayers for this
non-American offtopicness.

By 2025 I notice 15579.993 has switched to music, // JBA 17655 into
UTwente. At 2030 sharp, 15580- switches to othermusic, hilife. Maybe
that`s now VOA English feed as sked until 2200: yes, ``music
never-ending`` VOA English ID at 2033. And now 17655 is off (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2244 monitoring: confirmed Sunday
May 26 at 2000 on IRRS via AM Italia, 1322.995 kHz, S9+5/20 into
nearby Noale SDR and still not on 918 or 207 kHz.

Also confirmed Sunday May 26 at 2157 the 2130 on SW Radio/Gold,
Germany, 6160.000, S8/9+5, and 3975.002, S9+15/20 into UTwente.

Also confirmed NEW time of Sunday May 26 at 2330 on WRMI 7570,
S9+10/25 into Missouri SDR with some storm crashes. Aimed NW but not
making it this early into Alberta.

Also confirmed UT Monday May 27 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S8/9+15 into
Querétaro SDR. I see on map some more near Mexico City, untried yet.
What`s shown active on the Kiwi map does not always match what you may
reach by searching keynames.

Also confirmed UT Monday May 27 from 0302.3 on Area 51 via WBCQ 6160
-70 Hz = 6159.930, S9+10. JL gotta go by 0300 but misc. stuff such as
closing credits to some OTR show and pauses till WOR start.

Also confirmed Monday May 27 at 1930.7 on SW/Gold Radio, Germany, into
UTwente, 6160.001 S9/+10 and 3975.004 S9/+10. Always preceded by brief
ADDX segment in German, this time at 1927 about LRA36. Next:

0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to SW [irregular];
1300 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?];
2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW;
2330 UT Tuesday SW Gold/Radio, Germany 3975;
1930 UT Wednesday SW Gold/Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160;
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW;
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW;
1630 UT Thursday SW Gold/Radio, Germany 6160.

** U S A. ``WTWW: SW100 Harris problems --- Glenn, The Harris SW100
was in a pitiful condition. The driver inductor jumped track and
caused a small breaker to trip. Most of the resistors, screws were not
making contact due to rust and corrosion. The items were disconnected
and cleaned. The final inductors are messed up and are not turning and
will be taken out and cleaned shortly. There was one IC shorted in the
controller and was replaced. One door interlock was damaged and had to
be adjusted with a new part. The previous engineer had a bad final
tuning motor go out and replaced it with a stick to turn it. My son
and I took a motor from a Harris transmitter (in storage) and got rid
of the tuning stick. The Harris schematic diagram showed a switch for
tuning and operation. There was a pot there and was replaced with a
switch to match the diagram. The contact shoes for frequency change
were in bad shape and were cleaned with sandpaper. The pump in the
water tank was not working and had to be replaced with a spare pump.
This is only a sampling of the problems encountered. With the
remaining problems, it will probably be about 2 months before the
transmitter will be in operation on 12.105.
George McClintock 5-26-2024`` (via Glenn Hauser, WOR)

** U S A. 1130 kHz, May 27 at 0709 UT, NO signal from KLEY Wellington
KS, perpetual cheater, not a daytimer but legally ONE watt at night;
instead, after many weeks of doing so, no blocking of KWKH Shreveport,
silly sportstalk. Finally going legal? No, also no groundwave 250-watt
signal daytime at 1530 & 2205 UT chex. I bet whenever they may resume
daytime will also be nightcheater again (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 7260, May 27 at 0653, NO signal from R. Vanuatu; had been
very reliable, at least JBA, checked every night for weeks, but not
logged. Ron Howard agrees: ``VANUATU [non-log]. R. Vanuatu, random
checking from 0755 to 0940 UT, on May 27. Not heard on 2485, 3945,
5040, 7260 nor 9960. Ron, Asilomar State Beach, Calif. (near
Monterey), CommRadio CR-1, external antenna: 100 ft. long wire`` -
don`t forget 7890 & 11835, onetime great harmonix (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1160 kHz, May 27 at 0710 UT, dominant signal is Spanish,
mentions ``misericordia`` every few seconds -- that`s an RCC = ICR
buzzword like you would hear on R. Católica Mundial 12050.
Misericordia translates as mercy, compassion, or clemency. There is
only one Mex, XEQIN, way off in BCN, no such format and allegedly
silent anyway. Altho two ``community`` outlets have CPs.

Likely a US station. Only one NRC AM Log possibility as SS/REL: Radio
Luz WRLZ Saint Cloud FL U4 2500/500. Yet mwlist calls WRLZ ``Nossa
Rádio``, i.e. Portuguese! Link to net website calls 1160 WBIX Orlando;
and three others, in Ft Lauderdale, Boston and Connecticut, all
``WBIX``! - which is the real call only for 1260 Boston - where this
group for brasileiros originates? Anyhow, that`s not this.

In NRC Log, there are several REL but not SS on 1160, including EWTN;
could one of those in EE include some SS? KRDY San Antonio TX U4
10000/1000 would be likely by proximity and propagation, but it`s
Relevant Radio. That net`s sked unshows Spanish now or anywhen. WMET
Gaithersburg MD U4 50000/1500 is with Guadalupe Radio Network/EWTN
lacking SS in NRC Log, but net website is in Spanish! Could broadcasts
be bilingual? Nothing really fits.

Beyond Mexico? Here`s surely an RCC in WRTH and mwlist: HRVZ R. Juan
Pablo II, 1 kW in Siguatepeque, Honduras. KSL 1160 SLC is hardly a
factor even without auroral condx - hard to believe it`s 50/50 kW ND
U1 at only 800 miles. Gets whammed by IBOC noise on 1157 from KFAQ
Tulsa, and listed as returning the disfavor. IBOC not a problem right
now (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 17855, May 27 at 0454, S7/S9 of open carrier/dead air,
into UTwente; after this tip: ``[WOR] Open carrier on 17855 kHz, 0415
UTC May 27 --- I'm going to guess someone at REE forgot to hit the off
switch a few hours ago? 73, Ricky Leong, Calgary, Alberta, Canada``

Maybe; Still at 0454-0500+, 17855.002, S7/S9 OC into UTwente; nothing
on other three REEs: 17715, 15520, 15390, none ever sked at this hour.
EiBi shows CRI English Beijing 572 on 17855 at 04-06. But this just
went off at 0504 - maybe one or the other saw our discussion, ha

** ANTARCTICA [non]. Re my pointing out QRM to LRA36 twice a week
before 1500: ``UZBEKISTAN, 15474.773 kHz measured on Saturday May 25

** OKLAHOMA. Another tornado threat Saturday evening May 25 into UT
May 26 found the major OKC TV stations again blowing away
regular/network programming for wall-to-wall coverage. If not
tornadoes, large hail and flash flooding. Again most of it except some
rain missed Enid. Once again the only FM station relaying TV wx
coverage from KFOR was the gospel huxter on 89.7, but only briefly and
back to praise music while we were still being alert. Enid`s 95.7 &
107.1 were finally back on air circa 2330 UT - but with regular not
storm programming. KFOR was first to resume NBC at 0108 UT, but had to
break in again by 0118 with storms approaching Stillwater area. Once
all the storming move on east of here, we may relax (Glenn Hauser,
Enid, WOR)

** SAUDI ARABIA. 11935, May 26 at 1813 into UTwente, horrible buzzroar
continues. Something`s wrecked at wRiyadh (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U K [and non]. Reply to my comment about VOA carrying African
basketball in Portuguese: ``A couple of comments -- yes, indeed, R
Martí has broadcast some complete major league baseball games. I have
found them and much of RM content to be useful in resurrecting the
brain cells of my high school Spanish.

Nonetheless, your sentiment about the waste of resources, I feel, also
applies to the BBCWS. Four hours spent across Saturday/Sunday for
Sportsworld and play by play lifted from BBC 5 Live across four
frequencies. Four hours/frequencies that could have been spent
providing 1 hour a day to the Americas with something like Newsday.
Tony Pavick, Hope BC`` (via Glenn Hauser, WOR)

** U S A. Re CODAR ID on 4755: if it were WRPV785 as researched last
year, it`s licensed to UC Davis but from 5 sites in three counties
starting at 4463 kHz: Sonoma: Bodega Bay; Mendocino: Fort Bragg, Point
Arena; Humboldt: Trinidad, Samoa. As in
http://www.interceptradio.com/fcc.php
where you may enter any FCC callsign including CODAR to find out about
it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2244 monitoring: ``Unexpectedly
hearing WOR on WTWW on 9475 kHz, 2310 UTC Saturday, May 25.
Transmitter frequency seems to be off by approx. minus 20 Hz. SINPO
45333 — though the noise is mostly local, I think. 73 Ricky Leong,
Calgary, Alberta, Canada``

``Thanks for the tip, Ricky. Didn't know that WOR was on WTWW.
Reception for me is 45444, so noise may be local for you. Good to be
able to listen locally rather than SDR. Tony Pavick, Hope BC``

So I enquire whether 2300 UT Saturdays be a reliable new time; and any
other WTWW times I am unaware of?

Confirmed UT Sunday May 26 at 0000 on WRMI 9955, good into Maryland
SDR in quick check as I am about to close down deferring to
lightning.

Also confirmed UT Sunday May 26 at 0339 about 3 minutes into so
started circa 0336 the 0315v on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, almost unreadable
into nearby MO SDR due to high storm noise level totalling S9+10/15.

** U S A. Uncle Bill Tilford replies to my comments about WBCQ R.
Angela vanishing from 5130.3v: ``The WBCQ website has become useless
generally including incorrectly listing me as staff (I'm not doing
anything at all with the station these days) and a variety of other
errors in their program guide. In fairness, flawed websites appear to
be an almost endemic problem in the shortwave world (even VOA's has
wormholes where actual radio is concerned), almost as if there is a
fear that having one that is usable for program/frequency guides might
be a slippery slope to people wanting to listen on line instead.

As to what Glenn calls A*ATT, if it received the same level of
correspondence as the previous, more cosmopolitan incarnation of Radio
Angela, death by asphyxiation would have been just a matter of time.
But we'll see if it comes up for air again before November. There too,
it needs to be mentioned in fairness that WBCQ also airs John P.
Lightning's Radio New York International gratis twice a month, and
that show makes MSNBC seem like a fan of the former president in
question by comparison.`` (via Glenn Hauser, WOR)

** U S A. 5085, May 26 at 0622, S9+45/50 open carrier: has to be WTWW
left on long beyond nominal 0430*; confirmed by JBA spur carriers but
closer to plus/minus 12.8 kHz than usual 12.9, i.e. 5072.2 & 5097.8
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VENEZUELA.``Hi Glenn - Here on the California coast, I also noted
the absence of 4940 kHz, but did not record exactly from when it went
silent. Ron Howard``

No signal at 0223 UT May 26 into Bonaire SDR -- but from UK: ``Glenn -
I noted 4940 kHz with a strong clear signal at 0328 UTC 25 May using
the Kiwi SDR receiver on Bonaire. Long religious monologue by a lady
in Spanish. Assumed this was Estación 4940, though no ID copied. 73,

** OKLAHOMA. 95.7, May 25 at 1859 UT on caradio DX bandscan I notice
that local KXLS Lahoma is OFF. Audiblizes something else JBA
mentioning Bott network. There is one of 140 watts way off in KS, but
this must be K239BT, 250-watt translator of KQCV 800, in The Village,
NW OKC suburb where I dwelt from age 9 to 16.

107.1, May 25 at 1905, I find one other local signal missing, KNID
``North Enid``. Despite different CoLs, neither plain old Enid, these
are co-owned by Chisholm Trail Broadcasting and from same site west of
Enid. Both are still silent at 2050 & 2230 UT chex. What`s wrong? Not
going to be available for tornado warnings?

90.5, May 25 at 1859-1902, dead air in mono, presumed near-local KGVV
Goltry. Still dead at 2100 recheck; need to notice whether normally in
$ tereo. No loss: another gospel huxter. Back on later, in $ tereo.
Might have been overriden by local unused part 15 RF feeder? See also
USA for more OKies mixed in DX opening (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785+, May 25 at 2200, VOT on, JBA direct, VG into
UTwente. No time to listen further, rather `Dinner and a Movie` on
KUCO 90.1, and being aware of tornado threats (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 4755, May 25 at 0643 as I start a 60m bandscan, CODAR pauses
for Morse code ID twice, too fast for me to copy, but has been copied
and explored before. This reconfirms ``schedule`` for ID breaks,
presumably thrice hourly also at :03 and :23, and audible over the
total wide frequency range (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2244 monitoring: confirmed UT
Saturday May 25 from a few sex before 0400 on WTWW 5085, VG direct as
always. This time I explore reception into many SDRs in many
direxions, since the lobe pattern of this is unknown:

UTwente Holland: JBA S5
W1NT New Hampshire: good, S9/+10
VE6JY Alberta: S9+20/35
KFS California SE antenna: S9+35/45
Querétaro, México: S9+10/20
Melbourne FL: S9+5/20
Hawaii: S3/S5 about an hour before sunset
Bonaire: S9/+10
Middle Tennessee: S9+15/35 groundwave
near Memphis TN: S9+30/35 so not in skip zone

Also confirmed Saturday May 25 at 1454 the 1430 on SW Gold/Radio,
Germany, 6160.001, S9 into UTwente, no QRM. Missed checking the 1730
on 6160, 3975.

Also confirmed Saturday May 25 at 1619 on WRN North America 1600
webcast. Chris Campbell also hearing it via WRN Europe webcast.

Also confirmed Saturday May 25 from 1951 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, VG
into nearby SDR, following `This Week In Amateur Radio` = TWIAR, not
TIAWR as I erred last week: no, not the defunct CR outlet; also from
1930 on WRMI webcast only and WRN North America. Next:

** U S A. 4840, May 25 at 0645, WWCR-3 with VORW, S9+40/45. As
scheduled at 0600-0700 Saturdays. Nice to hear something besides
gospel huxters here. John`s other times on WWCR: UT Monday 0400 on
4840; Sat 2200 on WWCR-1, 6115 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. DXMAP shows Es FM DX between OK and California, May 25 at
1520 UT, so out to the car to check. I never hear any such, but rather
tropo enhanced as far as Kansas City, almost 300 miles, despite APRS
map showing no connexion into Kansas, just some intra-OK blobs not
quite reaching Enid. These tropos may well be obscuring some
E-skippers. Anyway bandscanning I also note some OKies. Approx.
city-to-city distances, not site-to-site, on distancefromto.net

92.1, at 1522, strong signal turns out to be only KFXI with singing
ID, and it`s in MONO even during C&W music at 1547. 100/100 kW from
Marlow OK, usually fringely audible. WTFDA does not mark it MONO! 194
km/121 stmi

94.9, at 1524 $ tereo rock, VG signal. This is one of my best ``open
for DX`` frequencies. Soon ID as ``94-9 KCMO``, ``another 50-minute
music marathon``. That`s 100/100 kW CoL Shawnee KS, a KC suburb. And
no -FM suffix despite the AM 710 station plus 103.7 translator. Could
be confusing. So strong it ought to show RDS icon at least, but
nonesuch at 1553 on DX-398 check, holding it out the window. 404/251

99.5, at 1529, $ tereo, ``Big Country 99.5``, i.e. KXBL, 100/100 kW,
Henryetta OK, rimshotting Tulsa market, our normal fringer. However
searching the FMDB on that slogan, we see it also applies to K258GZ,
250-watt translator of KALV 1430 Alva OK - no doubt separately
programmed from KXBL. And there is a third one in WV, WBYG. 201/125

92.9, at 1532, ``The River``, i.e. KRQV, 100/100 kW Tulsa; formerly
KBEZ FM The Drive. Hmm, there is a river drive along the Arkansas.
171/106

97.5, at 1537, several Manhattan KS ads, weather, Eagle Radio. Trouble
is, among the 13 stations licensed there, none on 97.5! BTW, there are
zero licensed to Manhattan NY, but two in MT. Eagle in slogan only
hits a Vermont 97.5! This must really be KJCK, 100/100 kW in Junxion
City KS, no Eagle in DB, rather ``Power Hits 97.5``. 307/191

97.3, at 1539, gospel rock; 1557 ``K-Love``. There are very low power
ones in CO, IN, TX and WI, but this must be the full-power 55/55 kW,
and closest, KLRX, Lee`s Summit MO, near Kansas City. 429/266

100.3, at 1542, Kansas Lottery ad, fadeout. Considering PTA above,
100/100 kW, KDVV Topeka; however there is a much closer one, KNZS
14.5/14.5 kW, Arlington, a tiny town not even in my regular Rand
McNally, but in the Large Scale one just WNW of Wichita. 354/220 or
169/105

104.9, at 1543, South Asian language, laughter, f/out. Suspect tropo
extends as far as the TX Metroplex. None such in the DB`s Language
field, in MO, KS, OK, or TX, but for: ``Ethnic`` FUNASIA, KZMP-FM,,
35/35 kW, Pilot Point TX, as heard before. Overcoming OKC station.
344/214

93.7, at 1549, ``Hot 93.7``, rock. Merely KSPI-FM Stillwater OK, 16/16
kW semilocal. Two others are in CT and FL. 80/50

94.1, at 1556, Kansas City-area ads for Memorial Day. Therefore, KFKF,
100/100 kW, Kansas City KS. But which state is it from, really?
Longitude of site is 94-30-24. But searching finds the long. of
Stateline Road is 94°36′26.7″W. Therefore, it is in MISSOURI! 418/260

94.5, at 1552, ad for 573 area code; MA Bank in Macon. 573 is roughly
the eastern third of Missouri, almost border to border IA-AR, except
for greater St Louis. Not Georgia. Macon is in NE MO, midway between
Chillicothe and Hannibal; and midway between Kirksville and Moberly.
Guess what: NO station licensed to Macon; must be KRXL 90/90 kW
Kirxvil. 626/389

96.7, at 1559, ``96-7 & 1310 Sports Radio, The Ticket``, obviously
another Metroplexan heard before, KTCK-FM, 90/90 kW, Flower Mound TX;
on 1310 successor to onetime great classical WRR owned by City of
Dallas. 381/236 (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR)

** VENEZUELA. 4940, May 25 at 0647, no signal from Estación 4940, nor
for a few weeks at random late-night chex. It used to be on late but
not always, but I would seldom bother to log it. Need to check if
still there earlier evenings. I don`t see any reports of it in May,
since April 24. Or COLOMBIA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ANTARCTICA [non]. 15474.8 approx., Fri May 24 at 1454, JBA carrier
direct, and nothing from LRA36 on 15475.98 RCUSB. Surely Furosato no
Kaze, from Japan roundabout via UZBEKISTAN, Tashkent
characteristically skewed frequency, for Korea North. RNASG is
scheduled Fri at 12-15 and Tue at 13-15, as I have warned about a
collision. No time now, too late to check if there be blockage into
Europe or South America (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** AUSTRALIA. Just in via the WOR iog from Tim Gaynor, May 25 at 0119
UT: ``Unique Radio AU & Website --- Hi Glenn and columnists,
Unfortunately, the Unique Radio AU site will be going offline (After
Wednesday of next week) due to Square taking over Weebly and
increasing costs to the legacy websites and turning them into business
websites. The increases would be from $ 36.00 AUD a month (I'm
presently paying) to over $ 100 AUD a month, which is way too much.

As you know, Unique Radio AU site hasn't really been all there for a
while now but the increased costs has now essentially made my mind up
for good. Jen's 'Calling all Radio Nutz', webcasts will continue and
She will post details here with any changes (If any).

I do have plans for a new service for a few hours a night, still using
5035 and 3210 kHz, USB, later in the night and hopefully a new online
website under a different moniker.

The Shortwave will only be talk based with no music and offered for
lease to selected broadcasters or programme producers. I would still
like to feature 'World of Radio' and 'The International Radio Report'.
I'll let you know when the new entity will be back, with thanks
always, Timothy Gaynor, 5035 kHz & 3210 kHz, Domestic Radio Sender,
Moree N.S.W., Australia`` (via Glenn Hauser, WOR)

** CUBA [and non]. Re: 60 Minutes - Ana Montés YouTube link -- Hey
Glenn, I heard you mention the story and am forwarding a link to the
terrestrial broadcast that aired here last Sunday night. It never
mentions "number stations" or even "shortwave" by name but did call it
a "high frequency" broadcast. I wonder why they presented it this way?
If they were trying to break down the "Cuban tradecraft" and how it is
not high tech, then why not tell yourself audience that her messages
came by shortwave radio, aka in layman's terms?

Well they did show a page of 5-digit numbers (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EAST TURKISTAN. 11665, May 24 at 1503, JBA carrier direct. Thought
it might be the only SW left from Malaysia, Wai FM et al., but per
EiBi 2230-1405; now amid 1500-1600 it`s CRI Pashto via Kashgar/Kashi,
land of imperialist ChiCom genocide against Uighurs and other Moslems
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** GERMANY. 15690.045 approx., May 24 at 1456 JBA talk off-frequency
direct. EiBi shows R. Farda for Iran, via Biblis site at 0530-1630;
also via Thailand, no doubt different exact frequency, at 0230-0530
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6935 USB, May 25 at 0118, music JBA in HSNL adding
up to S7/S9. Many logs here as Radio Free Whatever:

including from station itself:
Got Noise? No problem! listen here instead!
https://radiofreewhatever.mixlr.com/events/3439252
Indeed there it is when I bring it up at 0157, for most of an hour
untill ``This live event has ended`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6960 AM, UT Sat May 25 at 0119, JBA music in HSNL
adding up to S8/S9. Surely Ballsmacker Radio on regular sked; yes:

(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SAUDI ARABIA. 11935, May 24 at 1818 into UTwente, S9+5 of horrible
noise but somewhat different than before: rapid clickery and hum
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Fri May 24 at 2200, token English from SNR,
sufficient S9/+10 direct but not as strong as can be, much stronger
than 15520 for ME. 15390 for Africa, JBA carrier with Doppler flutter.
Too much distraxion, could not catch name of interviewee at 2209, but
discussing how Russia and China have not become democratic instead of
authoritarian as hoped since 1989. And Spain is the ``center of the
climate crisis``. Will have to wait till they get around to posting
the ``25/05`` podcast at:
https://www.rtve.es/play/audios/english-language-broadcast/
or the repeat at 0200 UT Sat on webcast only (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785, May 24 at 2158 VOT not off the air today, audible
direct with IS and ID, S9/+10 vs too much local noise. Tuning Maryland
SDR, S9+5/20 at 2230, `Turkish Folk Tales` ending, music. 2237 `That`s
Why` by Ms Badax, also modulation distortion so no idea of topic. 2253
s/off again no mention of SW, only a snippet of IS before chopoff, no
finesse (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 6913 USB, UT Sat May 25 at 0034, apparent MARS net led by
AAR#NF, mentioned training, VP vs HSNL and contacts even weaker.
Nothing on this frequency in Klingenfuß 2022. This was an AF Day
crossband contact frequency I last logged May 12, 2019 at 0030 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [non]. Not a log, yet, but: VOA plans special coverage in
Portuguese of BAL = Basketball Africa League on Saturday May 25 via
SAO TOME and BOTSWANA, which may temporarily replace other broadcasts,
at 1200-1500 UT on São Tomé 17675, and on Botswana 15580.

Also on Monday May 27, 1430-1700 & 1830-2030 on SAO 17655; 1430-2030
on BOT 15580, instead of English. Per EiBi, Portuguese is already on
17655 at 1700-1800 via Vatican, and 1800-1830 via SAO.

And on this date only, the Sudan service in English at 1630-1700 on
11910 will be via Lampertheim, Germany, instead of Botswana.

https://bal.nba.com/news/full-2024-bal-finals-schedule-confirmed

The playoffs already started May 24 in Kigali, Rwanda. May 25 involves
an Angolan team which is why VOA is Portuguesing this; May 27 might or
might not depending on a Saturday win. The Final will be Sat June 1
from 14 UT, possibly requiring more special coverage. There are also
games on next Wednesday and Friday.

So is this the Voice of AFRICA, or Voice of AMERICA? Why doesn`t VOA
broadcast play-by-play of US sporting events? Godforbid our resources
could be further wasted with silly ballgames. I believe however that
R. Martí does broadcast some complete béisbol games of interest to
dentroCubans. Quite a few escapees get jobs with MLB -- take that!
(Glenn Hauser, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2244 monitoring: confirmed Friday
May 24 at 2048 the 2030 on IRRS via AM Italia, 1322.995 kHz, not 918
or 207, steady S9+8 into UTwente across Europe. But 2053 sudden fade
to S7 audiblizing ACI, power cut?

Also confirmed first SWBC, Friday May 24 at 2200 on WRMI 9955, JBA
S7/S9 direct and undermodulated, much weaker than 9395 & 9455 as to be
expected due to azimuths. Bonaire should get 9955 better but at 2221
inaudible in noise level; but Maryland SDR has it good at S8/S9.

Also confirmed Friday May 24 at 2252 the 2230 on SW Gold Radio,
Germany, 3975.003, S9+10 into UTwente. Next:

Yes, 5130+ ``Radio Angela`` with ``Radio *rump International`` or as
we call it, `A*ATT` = All *rump all the time, is still missing
whenever checked at random day or night since May 14; last heard
weakened on May 11. Has anyone heard AW explain what happened, on air,
in a Twit or any way? Could it be that they have finally recovered
from delusions, or transmitter broke? Latest info on R. Angela webpage
is from a year ago! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
