Glenn Hauser logs March 14-15, 2020 |
|
Sunday, March 15 2020
** CANADA. 258-MCW kHz, March 15 at 0552, dash and ZSJ, which is a
1000-watt ND Beacon from Sandy Lake, Ontario, the only one on 258 per dxinfocentre.com -- first time heard since Dec 28. 340-MCW kHz, March 15 at 0558, dash and YY, 500-watt NDB at Mont-Joli, QC. See also UNIDENTIFIED 278 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13780, March 14 at 1343, RHC again here ex-13740 and // much stronger 13700. By 1417, 13780 is still on with noisy dead air. 13756.580, March 14 at 1419, RHC spur VP. Not like the loud FM/AM spurblobs sporadically out of 13700, rather clearly audible in AM mode and precisely measurable with BFO; also is 56.58 kHz displaced, rather than 66-70 kHz. I look for a match on the minus side and find a JBA carrier on 13644.53, but calculated spot would be 13643.42 so maybe that`s just a birdie. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15370, March 14 at 2015, RHC S9+20 in distorted Brazuguese, while 15140 is in French. Both these had been scheduled at 2100-2130, so bumped one real hour earlier. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 17480, March 14 at 2247, 5-digit spy numbers alternating with digibeepery, S1-S4 and nothing higher on the 17 or 18 MHz bands (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 6000, March 15 at 0543, RHC English JBM with crackle; 6060 VG S9+10/20; 6100 S9+10 undermodulated; 6145 VP S7-S9; 5040 S9+10/20 and distorted. Something`s always wrong at RHC(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** GUAM. 12035, March 15 at 1456 VP music; thought it might be another Turkey overrun past 1430, but KSDA is scheduled 1430-1500 in Myanmarianese; VOT sandwiched between this and Kununurra in Hindi before 1330. Much weaker than really TRT 11815v still on in Turkish (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** GUATEMALA. This isn`t a log but wrapping up(?) discussion of postal service here, following my log of 4055, Radio Truth announcing a postal address, P O Box 5, Chiquimula. From Chuck Gessner, W3ON to the WOR iogroup: ``Hi All, I sent an email to Dr. Madrid, the General Manager and Director of Radio Verdad Guatemala yesterday, regarding postal mail to and from Guatemala. His comments were very interesting. Here is some of what he wrote. `Here's how Postal Mail is in Guatemala: Private mail ceased permanently, as they never got an agreement with the government. The government is now operating to some extent the old official Post Offices. The problem is that it is not operating fully. They are operating on a partial way. We are not allowed to send any mail out, but we may receive mail from other countries (very scarcely). I have received several mail from the US and from Mexico, but not many. Mail from other countries take much time to arrive, although they may eventually get to us. I have been checking for your registered mail you sent in January, but is has not arrived yet. I was informed that we may send postal mail within Guatemala already, but not to other countries. They have announced several times that postal mail will start functioning normally, but it hasn't happened yet. Dr. Édgar Amílcar Madrid General Manager and Director Radio Truth Chiquimula, Guatemala, C. A.` ------------------------------------ Glen[n], et al., In my perspective the best way to reach Radio Verdad is via the 'radioverdad5@yahoo.com' email service. I do know that when I asked for a QSL card for some monitoring a few months ago, he responded via email, with email attachments. I had tried to send Radio Verdad a donation via PayPal. But it was suspended at the time. I don't know if that situation has been sorted out. I have also sent a donation via U.S. Registered Mail in late January. As of this date in mid March, Radio Verdad has not received it. So, to say that regular postal mail is somewhat elusive, is not to exaggerate. In my correspondence a while ago, I was going to try to send a donation via some of those overseas banking systems, as it appears that Radio Verdad can get monies that way. But my local bank balked when I requested that. I suppose that one could send Radio Verdad an email, and ask for guidance. To me, its such a shame that the Guatemalan government doesn't have this straightened out as this is a long time problem. I have read where one can use services such as FedEx to send stuff to Guatemala. I have not tried that. Anyway, that's what I know. I sure hope that gets straightened out. Radio Verdad Guatemala does IMHO, very good work in its coverage area. All you have to do is look at the Radio Verdad Guatemala YouTube channel to see some of its activities. I believe there may be a link to it on the Radio Verdad web page. 73 de Chuck W3ON`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** INDONESIA. 7165-LSB, March 14 at 1409, YD3BIH ham in contact and foneticizing his call, so I can look it up for sure at QRZ.com: ``YD2BIH flag Indonesia AGUNG DWI SETYAWAN, KENDAL 51355, Indonesia`` Kendal is in Central Java. I was looking for special VI3RA in this area of the 40m band, no luck (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KUWAIT. 17550.550, March 14 at 2012, JBA carrier as I am trying to hear the alleged 20-24 UT RK broadcast to C&W NAm in Arabic, contrary to Propagation 101. Last Sept 17 at 2121, I had an unID JBA carrier on 17550.6. While it was propagating last summer, heard in August and June on 17550, not offset; in May it had been offset-minus. However, Radio Kuwait often aired off-frequencies by 0.6 or 0.7 kHz (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 88.3 WBFM, March 14 at 1721 UT, NO signal from K202BY, even as we drive close by the site on a jaunt into the country west of Enid. This was the original Family Radio satellator which crashed or messed up the band for many months, then sold to translate 99.1 KJIL Copeland KS, and came back on air Feb 1 with much improved signal -- new transmitter? in fact causing new ACI to 88.1 KWOU Woodward, and I had to move my RF feeder frequencies somewhere else. May have been off for a day or two but until now had seemed funxional with no problems. Still off March 15 circa 1630 check. BTW, via KWOU I heard GM Dick Pryor claim that thru its relays, KGOU reaches 46 (of 77) OK counties. I wonder if he includes Garfield here where the signal is so marginal. Absence of K202BY helps, especially on the west side of Enid and/or with some tropo (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SCOTLAND [non]. 5850 // 5010, UT Sun Mar 15 at 0100, `Encore` classical music from Radio Tumbril via WRMI succeeds this week, not only on publicized 5850 but also on companion 5010; thisaway 5010 is much weaker; at Bogotá KiwiSDR, 5010 is better but not very strong. Next airing is to be the final one on WBCQ, UT Mon Mar 16 at 0000 on 7490.2v; and then at 0200 on WRMI 9455. Unfortunately this week`s playlist is not up yet, rather last week`s for 07/3, at: https://www.tumbril.co.uk/playlists (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SLOVENIA. 14275-USB, March 14 at 1427, CQ Contest over and over from S57DX; see https://www.qrz.com/lookup/s57dx ``S57DXflag Slovenia, SLAVKO CELARC, OB IGRISCU 8, 1360 VRHNIKA, Slovenia`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 12035, Sat Mar 14 at 1356-1403+, VOT English S8-S3 with Turkish songs, a time when I was expecting to hear `Letterbox`. 5960, Sat Mar 14 at 2317, no signal from VOT English to us, another no-show; so the Mighty farty KBC should have no worries this week from 5960 after 0000. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) See also GUAM ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2025 monitoring: 15770, Sat Mar 14 at 1340 I awaken to a JBA carrier from WRMI, so was probably also on at 1300 for WOR. Glenn Hauser logs March 13-14, 2020 |

Saturday, March 14 2020
** GUATEMALA [and non]. 4055, continuing postal discussion:
Vince Ferme, Ottawa ON, replies: ``I remember when this was announced. It likely went to the UPU as well. In this case, any competent postal service would not accept this piece of mail. Now, check the following links, nothing newer, so the current situation is anybody's guess: https://www.canadapost.ca/web/en/blogs/announcements/details.page?article=2017/10/05/guatemala&cattype=announcements&cat=updates https://www.canadapost.ca/web/en/blogs/announcements/details.page?article=2018/11/06/mail_and_parcel_serv&cattype=announcements&cat=updates Service on paper does not mean service in reality. The mailbags may all be ending in a paper recycling facility in Guatemala City. Regards, Vince, Ottawa, ON`` And from Leonardo Santiago, Mérida, Venezuela: Hi Glenn, in a previous contact with Dr. Madrid at the end of 2019, he told me the same thing; they cannot send out any postal correspondence due to the lack of postal services in Guatemala since about a couple of years (as far as I can remember). In fact, he sent me a scanned QSL card instead of a printed one along various e-souvenirs for an e-report on Radio Truth. You also asked if there was another country in the world with a similar situation, and I wanted to add my country. Venezuela is facing a similar problem with the national public postal service known as IPOSTEL, standing for Instituto Postal Telegráfico. It happens that they are unable to send letters and packages out, but they are handing out what enters to the country only. According to them, it is due to the lack of transport, car parts and lack of gasoline (this is what they have told me in my recent visits to the local post office). Notwithstanding, although dxer Jorge Medina in Punto Fijo, Falcon, told me that he was receiving some QSLs in November last year, I sadly say that I personally haven't received anything yet, although many QSLs and packages were announced to me via e-mail even since June the 2019. So, just in case somebody is reporting a radio station from Venezuela attempting a QSL verification, my recommendation is to add his e-mail address or WhatsApp contact for a more probable answer, although many stations can be contacted via FB or e-mail. 73s, Leonardo Santiago, Mérida, Venezuela`` Also, some extraneous punxuation dysfunxionalized URLs in Ron Howard`s previous report; fixed: https://www.lonelyplanet.com/guatemala/post US Postal Service website currently shows service to Guatemala. https://postcalc.usps.com/ Online I noted: "Effective April 6, 2019, the U.S. Postal Service™ restored mail service to Guatemala." http://accessworldwide.net/2019/04/25/mail-services-to-guatemala-resumes/ Please do not attach any punxuation, like () or periods, to URLs (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. This is the guy who phones in his show in real time. 5130 never comes on tonight, but I am listening to 7490V direct on SW, not webcast. At 0000 except for a few beeps, dead air until 0102:35 join in progress the end of ``William Tell Overture`` theme with time for only one final interjexion, ``pot roast``, on `Allan and Angela Weiner Worldwide`. He starts wondering how long they`ve been ``off the air``. Referring to preceding gap, or ``has it been 3 months since the last live show?`` Says interrupted hiatus because of ``craziness``, i.e. run on toilet paper, on and on about that. It`s God`s will to unfurl these particles visible only through an electron microscope. ``God help us if we had any other president.`` He`s already been taking calls including annoying Freddie. ``It`s hot in Florida; Angela likes to go around half-nekkid all the time.`` Finally at 0030 confirms it`s the 13th of March, YOOL 2020. Reads an opinion piece by an anti-socialist college student who thinks the Mainstream Media are brainwashing younger generation, until 0043. 0058 benedixion thanking God for something, again cut off incomplete at 0059:45, no Amen, by automation switch to canned ID and into Hal Turner show right on time 0100. [see also WRMI: 5800] Here`s John Carver`s version: ``Tonight's AAWWW --- show started a bit over two minutes late this evening on 7490. There was no signal on 5130. Allan and Angela in the studio in Fla. Says they decided to do a show because of all the craziness in the world. Opens with talk of the Corona Virus and the shortage of toilet paper. Phone call at 0006 from the April Time Lady which generates more toilet paper talk. Phone call at 0011 from Freddie and more toilet paper talk. Then a serious talk about the virus and other Corona types. Stressed that the manufacture of medicines should be brought back to the US instead of overseas. Long reading of an inspirational paper forwarded to the station. We are reassured several times that WBCQ will continue on for us no matter what happens. Several spot checks during the first forty-five minutes of the program never found a signal on 5130. Allan did say that in the near future 6160 and 3265 would be returning to the air with programming. Reading of emails at 0055. Closing prayer at 0058. Program was off the air at 0100 in the middle of the closing prayer. Other than the mention of 6160 and 3265 there was no station info this evening. John, Mid-North Indiana`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5800, UT Sat Mar 14 at 0100, this WRMI is starting `Hal Turner` show // much stronger 9455, and also // WBCQ 7490v, but thus abolishing RAE relay in Spanish. No, it was not shifted to the previous hour as SMTV was still on 5800 past 0000. Is it somewhere else on schedule now? The transmission grid still shows RAE [Spanish] at 0100 on 5800 from System H; but the H grid only shows Alameda and Wavescan. It does show RAE Spanish at 22-23 M-F on System D 5010: I have assumed this was long outdated info but have not deconfirmed it lately. Note that in previous report, Taiwan is scheduled to experiment with Spanish on WRMI 5800, at 0100-0130 UT March 16-17-18. 9395, UT Sat Mar 14 at 0110, I`m trying to tell whether Argentina in English is now here one hour earlier, but direct and via numerous remotes tried, just too weak to be sure. And why is this so much weaker than Turner on 9455 if both are on same azimuth 355; not same powers?
