Shortwave Radiogram, program 45, 27-30 April 2018, in MFSK modes as noted:  View Printable Version
Friday, April 27 2018

FinnishDX
Hello friends,

The first broadcast of Shortwave Radiogram program 45 is today (Friday) at 2030-2100 UTC on 7780 kHz from WRMI Florida. (Although reception tends to be difficult beyond eastern North America.)

Last weekend's experiment with six modes was interesting. Of the three fast Thor modes, Thor 100 seemed to be less successful than Thor 50x1 and Thor 50x2. Of course, in difficult reception conditions, our "go to" MFSK32 mode prevailed over all the faster modes. Zach in Alabama had difficult reception of the Monday
0800-0830 UTC show, with these results:
MFSK128: <10% MFSK64: <15% MFSK32: ~75% Thor50x1: <15% Thor50x2: <10% Thor100: <5%

Videos and audio of last weekend's (program 44) broadcast can be accessed as follows:

This weekend's Shortwave Radiogram will be simpler, with only two modes: MFSK32 and MFSK64.

Here is the lineup for Shortwave Radiogram, program 45, 27-30 April 2018, in MFSK modes as noted:

Hello friends,

This weekend's first broadcast of Shortwave Radiogram is First broadcast is today at 2030 UTC on 7780 and 9455 kHz. Listeners in North America: Tell your bosses you need to go home early to decode the modes.
Response has been light to the Friday 2030 UTC and Monday 0800 UTC shows, most likely because of the inconvenient times and poor reception on Europe. I will try to find a new weekend slot for Shortwave Radiogram. If you have suggestions for convenient times and days, please let me know.

During the weekend, many listeners report results and post decoded images to the Shortwave Radiogram Twitter account, @SWRadiogram. If you are on Twitter, please join in. Include @SWRadiogram in your tweet. If you are not on Twitter, you can see what is posted at https://twitter.com/swradiogram .

During the past week, our Twitter group also posted SSTV images received from the International Space Station. I received only a few blurry images, but Merkouris in Greece decoded the entire set of SSTV images transmitted from the ISS.
During last weekend's broadcast, I was amazed by how well the fast MFSK128 and MFSK64 modes decoded even in less than ideal conditions. Thanks to listeners who produced videos of their reception and decodes (from which you can decode, though I was unsuccessful with the audio from DFS in Japan):
Day Time Name Location URL
Saturday
1600-1630 UTC DFS Japan https://youtu.be/mvEnHimRylk
Saturday
1600-1630 UTC Ralf Germany https://youtu.be/5l7_TPAEO-g
Sunday
2330-2400 UTC BlackApple 62 Italy https://youtu.be/qw0pxaRyvUc
Sunday
2330-2400 UTC Scott Ontario https://youtu.be/DR4SFTJXCIY

You can also access audio of my reception Monday at 0800-0830 UTC on 7730 kHz using an SDR in Australia. This is interesting not only because of the distance from the Florida transmitter, but also because of the wideband interference which proved to be a slight problem only for the MFSK128 mode -- plus the fuzzy images. (For more audio of Shortwave Radiogram, remember that Mark in the UK keeps an audio archive here.)

This weekend on Shortwave Radio, we will again transmit the sequence of MFSK128,64, and 32, each with an image. We will also experiment with three of the fastest Thor modes: Thor 50x1, Thor 50x2, and Thor 100. All three of these are available on TIVAR and AndFlmsg as well as Fldigi. An RSID will be sent at the beginning of each mode, but if the software does not switch automatically, five seconds will be provided after the RSID for a manual change.

Here is the lineup for Shortwave Radiogram, program 44, 20-23 April 2018, in modes as noted:

1:33 MFSK32: Program preview
2:53 MFSK128: UK media regulator probes RT's impartiality*
5:45 MFSK64: Volcanic rock traps CO2 and turns it inert*
11:36 MFSK32: Meteorite's diamonds might be from lost planet*

21:35 Thor 50x2: Continued
23:30 Thor 100: Continued

Shortwave Radiogram, program 43, 13-16 April 2018, in MFSK modes as noted:  View Printable Version
Saturday, April 14 2018

FinnishDX
Hello friends,

SSTV images are being transmitted from the International Space Station through 14 April. Some Shortwave Radiogram listeners have been posting their reception to @SWRadiogram -- or https://twitter.com/swradiogram.net . Two examples are
from Merkouris in Greece and @Hal-Fi in California.

On last weekend's Shortwave Radiogram, I was surprised by the mostly successful performance of the very fast (480 wpm) MFSK128 mode, even over some long-distance and noisy paths. The Olivia 64-2000 also prevailed even 9 dB under the music of Spike Jones. Next time I will set the level of the Olivia 64-2000 even lower.

See videos by Ralf in Germany, Scott in Ontario, and Martin in Mexico, And, of course, analysis by Roger in Germany.

Because the MFSK128 did so well, we will do it again this weekend, along with MFSK64 and the usual MFSK32, each with images. And a surprise mode might be lurking under the closing music.

Here is the lineup for Shortwave Radiogram, program 43, 13-16 April 2018, in MFSK modes as noted:

1:37 MFSK32: Program preview
2:50 MFSK128: New line drawings revealed in Peru*
4:33 MFSK64: Mars Express gets in-orbit upgrade*
9:30 MFSK32: The rise of wooden skyscrapers*
20:04 Foot-powered washing machine in production*

Radiomaailman RDS-kilpailu 2018  View Printable Version
Saturday, April 07 2018

FinnishDX

Hei!

Kuulin jostain, ettà tÃllainen kilpailu pidetÃÃn ilmeisesti tulevan kesÃn aikana. Tarkoituksena on saalistaa mahdollisimman monta RDS-tunnusta.

Tarkempia sÃÃntÃjà en tiedÃ. PelkÃÃn kuitenkin, ettà kilpailu on tarkoitettu ns. kovalevykuuntelijoille, eikà ns. reaaliaikaisilla kuuntelijoilla ole omaa sarjaa, jos heità ylipÃÃtÃÃn kelpuutetaan.

Olisi mukavaa, jos sÃÃnnÃt julkaistaisiin myÃs Radiomaailma -lehden ulkopuolella, vaikkapa tÃÃllà hard-core-dx.com -sivustossa. Se saattaisi lisÃtà kiinnostusta.

Asiasta innostunut, 73Âs KKH
