I've noticed the interference in the mornings here in the UK over the past
few days, it is quite apparent during the 1000-1200 period on several
BBCWS English frequencies such as 15285, 15310, 15575, 17760, 17790 etc.
I'm sure its there at other times too. It seems to have been going on for
some time, but because the jamming is a type of white noise or digital
noise, its sometimes difficult to distinguish it from the general
background interference. - 73s Dave

The BBC has said shortwave broadcasts in English of World Service radio
are being jammed in China. In a statement, the corporation said it was not
possible to determine exactly where the blocking was coming from. But it
said the "extensive and co-ordinated efforts are indicative of a well-
resourced country such as China".
"The BBC strongly condemns this action which is designed to disrupt
audiences' free access to news and information," said the statement.

Re: BBC World Service English shortwave radio blocked in China.
WTFK??? BBC isn't saying so we can check it for ourselves. However here is
more about it. The clip includes some tones and the noise does not sound
like DRM. As for being "not possible" to locate, of course it is! With
professional direxion-finding equipment and techniques.

Reports on Keith Perron's "PCJ Media and PCJ Radio" Facebook group over
the past week have complained of possible jamming on BBC English
frequencies especially on 15310 via Oman and 17790 via Thailand. A digital
signal is being applied overtop that is obliterating reception. Partha
Sarathi Goswami posted a recording of it on
In an e-mail exchange with Steve Handler, we were informed that the
Chinese have never jammed English broadcasts before and such digital
jamming was not their known practice.
However, the BBC have now come out and are blaming the Chinese in two
separate linked stories posted by Dave Kenny:
and Andy Sennit[t]: <http://www.bbc.co.uk/ariel/21574683>

Not sure the Chinese are missing anything. BBC World Service radio is
rubbish these days. What particularly makes me scream with frustration is
Newsday which sounds like it is produced by schoolkids on a Media Studies
I absolutely agree with your opinion about BBC service rubish these days
(perhaps since past 10 years) ... Now BBC is a source of political agenda.
It seems to me that BBC is runing only for justification of USA and its
western Assistants's policies whether it against war on terror or
economically against China or/and Russia.

re BBC World Service shortwave radio blocked in China.
China newly put BBC English service of BBC, VOA and AIR of the jamming
I hear this new jamming like noise jamming by digital jamming (DRM TX?).
In the transmission area, a new jamming basis in seems to be southern
China. This jamming was confirmed for the first time on Febr 10, 2013.

and of December 2013 too:
CHINA Jamming against PCJ from China started.
Just as out program was going out today. At around 1405 UT the jamming
noise China uses to jam the broadcasts in English against the VOA, BBCWS
and from time to time Radio Australia news programs hit us.
This is how it was heard in Japan, Taiwan and China. It lasted for a few
seconds before it stopped:
But then in Beijing where 9335 kHz was coming in loud and clear they also
heard the same thing as we did and when it stopped. Then at 1407 UT the
same noise popped up again in Beijing and remained until the end of our
broadcast at 14:29:59 UT.
[later] Well this was a surprise. At around 1405 UT I was what the same
jamming noise used to target the English broadcast of the VOA, BBC and
Radio Australia's news programs popped up for a few seconds.
Then it went off. A friend who was listening to 9335 kHz using just the
whip antenna said we were coming in very good. Then this digital noise
popped up and we were whipped off the dial. Things returned to normal he
said for a few mins then it came back and remained until the end.
Here in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan and in South East Asia everything was
fine. Only in Beijing was it being jammed. When our program ended at
14:29:58 UT he said the jamming noise stopped a few seconds later. I heard
it myself as I was on skype with him.

It would be helpful to quote previous posts so we know what you are talking
"[WOR] Digital Noise under KBS. Aug 13 at 2:55 PM

What is the digital noise under KBS 15575?
It can also bother the BBC’s 16 & 19 metre frequencies.
I call it the digital beaver. It’s not there most days thankfully"
Posted today at 1603 UT but KBS is on 15575 at 1300-1500. Glenn
