Glenn Hauser logs October 31-November 1, 2017  View Printable Version
Wednesday, November 01 2017

** ANGUILLA. 6090, Oct 31 at 2343, whee! DGS is back from The Valley, with VG S9+30 signal and modulation. Had been off for weeks since hurricane, except for a very brief reactivation a few days later when it seemed to be OK then. At 0154 Nov 1 check, // 5935 WWCR and synchronized, taking the same satellite feed from LA. Day frequency 11775 may be back too. It was reported that the antenna needed repairing, while the MW 1610 tower was completely down, and still unheard there (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL. 9666.15, Oct 31 at 2346, R. Voz MissionÃria is back after missing last night, S9+5 and wayer off-frequency. I can also hear it wavering while measuring, Portuguese religion (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6950-USB, Oct 31 at 2336, pirate music with heavy pulsing beat; S9+15. YL inserts comment about Facebook; 2340 she says something about weapons restrixions, as I find the music sounds better when tuned to 6950.12-USB; 2345 she says, ``Happy -u-k-n Hallowe`en, from Clever Name Radio``. Many more logs here:
Seems it started this frequency at 2335 and was off by 0008 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6935-USB, Oct 31 at 2337, pirate music at S9+25. Finally at 2354, ``Wolverine Radio`` ID. Many2 more logs here, and SSTV images on a HW theme:

** NORTH AMERICA. 4065-USB, Nov 1 at 0118, pirate music; axually sounds better at 4064.989, DJ sounds like Dick Weed, conversing with someone, so must be Radio Free What-Ever; 0130 more talk, mentioning having listened to Wolverine, but conditions bad on 6.9 MHz band so moved down here; 0148 still going. I find this in normal bandscanning, when there is no activity on 6.9 band, and would alert others to this seldom-active pirate frequency, but HFUs were already reporting it from all over North America:
None of them mention QRM from beacon NZ or ZN. See my separate unID log (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU [and non]. 5980, Oct 31 at 2332, R. Chaski carrier is again quite audible amid the QRDRM from ROMANIA, until autocutoff at 2333:58*, which is a hefty 7.5 seconds later than last night until 2333:50.5*. RRI has run DRM now for three nights in a row on this frequency it shows as non-DRM, so hardly seems accidental; plus, switches to AM before 0000 for the Spanish hour which follows (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ROMANIA. 6130, Nov 1 at 0154, RRI signing-off English to North America, only S9-S7, but to be followed by another hour in French; not DRM, but see PERU (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** THAILAND. 13745, Nov 1 at 0002, HSK9 presumed English to N America, but VP S5-S6, and this time 13740 Cuba is no problem, hardly any better at S4-S7 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 2000-USB, Oct 31 at 0612 check, no sign of New York Radio VOLMET, which has been missing from its four shortwave channels, and which a few years ago strangely appeared on this temporary bandedge frequency, as Paul S in CT reminds us. Also nothing at some further chex early UT November 1 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1901 monitoring: confirmed Tuesday October 31 at 2030 on WRMI, much stronger on 11580 than // 9455.

However, one hour later at 2130 when on 9455 only, I find the WRMI signal even weaker but detectable and mixing with fluttery Chinese music, maybe Firedrake. Well, of course! HFCC B17 shows IBB in Chinese via SAIPAN at 21-22, so it Must Be Jammed. Furthermuchmore, the preceding 5 hours are more of the same: 16-17 and 17-21 also Saipan, but in three different segments since there is a 10-degree antenna beam change for the middle one from 300 to 310 degrees, why?

What other collisions does WRMI now face on 9455? 02-03 IBB in Bod/Tibetan via Kuwait, and jamming; 06-09 Riyadh in Arabic, 500 kW, 295 degrees; and Bangladesh Nepali service which was on 9455 years before WRMI came along, but at 1315-1345 only, despite having registered the full hour. Maybe it`s time for WRMI-5 to revert to the 6.8 MHz band where it started, especially since it`s wintrish again and less fadeoutty overnight --- but down there it kept being bumped off by USG reclaiming frequencies for MARS or something. No such plan is in initial HFCC registrations.

WOR 1901 replayed at 2130 because I was running a bit late today.

WORLD OF RADIO 1902 contents: Alaska, Algeria non, Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Bougainville, Brazil, Chile, China, Cuba non, Germany and non, India, Indonesia, Iran and non, International Vacuum & Internet, Japan and non, Korea South, Kurdistan non, North America, Papua New Guinea, PerÃ, Philippines, Romania, Sikkim, Solomon Islands, Somaliland non, Spain, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkey, USA; and the propagation outlook

WORLD OF RADIO 1902 monitoring: confirmed first broadcast less than a semi-hour after completed, Tuesday October 31 at 2330 on WBCQ, which has varied even further up, measured at 2346 on 9331.41-CUSB, S9+5. Next:

** U S A. 3185, Oct 31 at 2338, WWRBS is already on, so no 9370 day frequency over this night (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9475 & 5830, Oct 31 at 2339, WTWW-1 still missing from both day and night frequencies. What`s wrong? Joins WTWW-3, gone for months from 12105.

5085, however, still worx, since WTWW-2 is Ted`s plaything, no programming from Scriptures for America which owns the facility; UT Wed circa 0150 running ham program. Flanked by the spurs he cannot or will not eliminate circa 5072 and 5098 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5130.357, UT Wed Nov 1 at 0149, ham discussion on WBCQ, now S9+10, and should improve as we get wintry, having stayed here all summer in the static (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1710 kHz, Oct 31 at 0605 UT check, can make out the screaming service from Radio RetÃn lo que Tienes, the pirate from BÃton Rouge LA which is in no hurry to get busted. Also considerable 1710 carrier, presumably this, circa 0200 UT Nov 1. It was first being reported locally on FM back in March also claiming to be on 1710 then, but only in last month is being DXed, so must have beefed up their MW output (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 4066 approx., while monitoring Radio Free Whatever pirate on 4065-USB [see NORTH AMERICA], I`m barely hearing a CW ID over and over as ZN --- or is it NZ? Pauses between are so similar I can`t decide which one comes second. Might have been out of RFW transmitter itself. Music from RFW just about blots it out, but much more audible while Dick Weed is talking, and definite copy at 0130. RFW is off by 0159, but so is the beacon. It ought to be in this listing:
where there are several others around this frequency, but it`s not.

Any ideas? I frequently check this area for beacons but nothing heard for months. Searching my archive on NZ would be overproductive, but ZN? I was getting ZN last February on a nearby frequency:

``UNIDENTIFIED. 4070.34, Feb 7 at 0257, JBA CW beacon sending ZN over and over slowly. Previously logged Feb 4 a 0448 as on 4070.36; maybe my estimates are varying rather than the transmission. So where is it? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) UNIDENTIFIED. 4070.396, Feb 9 at 0656, beacon ZN is in again, sending ID about 15x per minute, and peaking CW at S8``

Never found out where it is (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

This report dispatched at 0419 UT November 1

Glenn Hauser logs October 30-31, 2017  View Printable Version
Tuesday, October 31 2017

** ALGERIA [non]. 6105, Oct 30 at 0610, Arabic music, 0612 into Qur`an, S9, mutual ACI with 6100 RHC English. New frequency for RTA via FRANCE, at 0500-0700, 500 kW, 198 degrees to CIRAF 46N and 46SW, which translates to Sahara, Mauritania and points south of those (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL. 9666v, Oct 30 at 2357, no signal anywhere around here, just a JBA carrier on 9665.00 (nothing in HFCC); while other off-frequency ZYs are in at usual levels on 9674.9, 9725.4, 9819.1; so Voz MissionÃria is AWOL (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA. 9605, Oct 30 at 1439, echo-jamming in Chinese, i.e. CNR1 vs IBB Chinese via Philippines, this hour only (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 640, Oct 31 at 0003 UT, with near-local KWPN Moore OK nulled, something in Spanish, mentions ``pescador de hembras``, hmmm, sounds interesting; is it the new WMFN in Peotone IL? That station has just activated after being moved from Zeeland MI, causing excitement among MWDXers. Unfortunately, the Spanish I am hearing loops toward Cuba, Radio Progreso, not Chicago. Initially WMFN was being heard 24 hours in Spanish, as reported by Tom Jasinski, Joliet. How do you pronounce Peotone? Or in Spanish? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 11950, Oct 30 at 2210, surprised to find the RHC `Mesa Redonda` TV simulcast on air an hour earlier than usual 2300, and // weaker 6000. Definitely not same programming as on mainstream RHCs such as 11840, 11760. Recheck at 2344 the same, so apparently two hours long, at least today. Normally as a running dog of Yanqui Imperialism, Cuba in lockstep with the Miami Mafia shifts its clox on the same date, i.e. not until November 6, when the MR show should be appearing at 0000-0100 Tue-Sat (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA [non]. 7435, Oct 30 at 2359, R. Martà with QSY announcement to 6030 and 7--- [cut off the air], but 7435 is back on at 0000, after a transmitter and/or antenna change at Greenville? 0000 Oct 31, usual canned ID for Radio Martà and onward. I`m listening carefully since Tim Hendel inquired today:

``Has Radio Martà changed its name? Hi, Glenn, I wonder if you can help me sort this mystery out. For some time, Radio Martà has been available on Sirius/XM on channel 153. This has been a good way for me to record for Carrie, since reception is clear, and no jamming. Now, a slight change seems to have occurred. When you bring up ch153, it identifies itself, at least on my Echo Dot, as "La PolÃtica." Yet, I heard an I.D. for MartÃ, including shortwave frequencies. A little later, I heard some commercials, including one in English, which I would not have expected on the SW version of MartÃ. I wonder if MartÃ, itself, has blended itself into PolÃtica, or, if PolÃtica is simply cutting away from R. Martà at certain moments. Any ideas? I havenât tried paralleling the two streams at the same time. Thank you! Best, Tim``

Seems that must be something Sirius/XM is imposing upon it. Does anyone know about this? On SW I am not hearing any mention of La PolÃtica. Time to extract the full schedule from HFCC. Except for 11930, separate adjacent entries for a single frequency indicate antenna change, and maybe transmitter. Altho only two frequencies are ever modulating at once, more than two transmitters are employed, due to overlaps with warmup carriers.

00-12 6030, 12-14 7435, 14-20 13820, 20-24 9565
00-01 7435, 01-02 7365, 02-03 7435, 03-07 7435, 07-11 5980, 11-13 5980, 13-14 11930, 14-22 11930, 22-23 7375[NEW], 23-24 7435

** EAST TURKISTAN. 11880, Oct 30 at 1425, CRI English is S9 to S9+10 with flutter, a couple words ahead of 13740 Cuba relay, which is squealing. HFCC shows 11880 this hour only is 500 kW, 308 degrees from Kashgar. Also scheduled until 1427 is RVA in Bengali, 250 kW, 300 degrees from Palauig, Philippines, but no trace of that, which might have seemed more likely if really on (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GOA. 11620, Oct 30 at 1429, very poor music, I try to match to 9690 or 13720, the AIR GOS in English frequencies at 1330-1500, but all are too poor. However, 11620 goes to tone at 1430 and off at 1431*. HFCC shows Panaji at 1200-1430, 250 kW, 25 degrees in multiple languages, two separate entries even tho same parameters, one for CIRAF 42S and 43SW, which means China north of India, i.e. Tibet. Thus, ought to be jammed. And, 55 & 58-60 which means all of Australia and New Zealand! Nowhere near that azimuth. AND, HFCC also has a conflicting, presumably outdated entry on 11620 at 1315-1500 for AIR in English, 250 kW, 132 degrees from Delhi to CIRAF 49, 50 and 54, which means SE Asia from Myanmar to Indonesia to Philippines (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU [and non]. 5980, Oct 30 at 2333, just like yesterday, no problem hearing the R. Chaski carrier amid the DRM noise from Romania instead of AM, until autocutoff at 2333:50.5* which is the expected 6.5 seconds later than yesterday (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SOUTH CAROLINA [non]. 7730, Oct 30 at 2349 via WRMI, I pause on Molester Stair for the latest prophecy: 15 days of total darkness coming in November, first in voice of a synthyl. Then MS reads something about massive protests starting November 4 that the ``Trump-Pence regime must go``. And somehow 7 gigapersons on earth will die as a result. Ooh! (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TURKEY. 15350.050, Oct 30 at 1347, Turkish conversation in VOT service now scheduled all the way from 07 to 14, 500 kW, 310 degrees to WEu and USward beyond. A good one for music when they play it after fade-in over here. And better than the English from 1330 on 12035.

11815, Oct 30 at 1427, NHK in Japanese direct has a fast SAH from something. First guess is Brasil, where RBC has been sticking pretty close to accurate frequency, unlike all the others, but not a good daypart to hear much of anything from ZY. Then HFCC has the answer: 11815 is the successor frequency to 15350, VOT in Turkish at 1400-1700, but only 250 kW, still 310 degrees, and an almost-always off-frequency station.

[and non] 5960.00, Oct 30 at 2337, this time I take the trouble to pin down the VOT English to N America, and by golly, can`t make it off-frequency+plus. During music. Late sign-off circa 2355 and really goes off, no German to be heard at 0000 --- but a JBA carrier, presumably Xinjiang PBS, Urumqi, East Turkistan (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1901 monitoring: further checking of the WRN North America webfeed, where WOR is now scheduled at 0230 UT Mondays: Oct 30, it`s still in Russian! One hour earlier I thought it sounded like Russian but they kept mentioning Slovakia, so I correlated this with RSI (English) supposedly now scheduled at that time.

It seems the WRN streams are all mixed up. There is another one linked from the same page for Russian, and it is, but not the same Russian as what I am hearing on ``English``. Notified Master Control and they were going to look into it, but no reply or explanation yet.

Checked 22-23 hours later, Oct 31 at 0144, this stream:
is in fact now in English with ``Israel Radio`` as scheduled daily 0030-0100, among other expanded times.

WOR 1901 also confirmed at 0310 UT Mon Oct 30 during Area 51 webcast, and at 0315 JBA on 5130.3v WBCQ. 9955 WRMI is inaudible, but after 0330, UT Mon Oct 30, WOR confirmed on its webcast. Also confirmed Mon Oct 30 at 2330 on WBCQ, 9330.88v-CUSB. Also confirmed UT Tuesday Oct 31 at 0052 check, the 0030 on WRMI 7730, VG S9+10/20. Next:
Tue 2030 on WRMI 11580 to NE, 9455 to WNW

WOR 1902 should be ready for first broadcasts Tue Oct 31 at 2130 on WRMI, 9455; and 2330 on WBCQ, 9330v-CUSB (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5810, Oct 30 at 0605, WEWN, R. CatÃlica Mundial, still with problems, undermodulated. Night frequency 5810 is still running at 1424, now VG and nothing yet on 12050. No English frequencies are on, 9470 nor 11520 nor 15610 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 650, Oct 31 at 0005 UT, roughly equal mix of WSM and KGAB Cheyenne, mentioning Wyoming, making SAH of 28/minute = 0.47 Hz. Weather for WY, CO, NM and UT, which I thought was KGAB, but WSM also with far-flung weather (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 6230-USB, Oct 30 at 2335, 2-way in American English, discussing boat speed in knots, destinations including RoatÃn, with another sailor, who is barely audible. Appears to be solo (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

This report despatched at 0215 UT October 31

Glenn Hauser logs October 29-30, 2017  View Printable Version
Monday, October 30 2017

** BOLIVIA [and non]. 5935, Oct 29 at 2327, usual JBA carrier from possible R. Yura if not Lhasa, and no WWCR to block it: they are probably waiting another week for DST to go off here before re-jiggering their schedule. At 2358, JBA 13845 is announcing QSY to 5935, and WWCR does blast on there just before *2359 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA. 9415, Oct 29 at 2331, Vietnamese talk, after bit of `Love Me Tender` tune, VG S9+25 to S9. Hard to believe this bigsig is, as in HFCC: CRI, 2300-2400, 500 kW, 193 degrees from Beijing site. Off at 0004 Oct 30 recheck. I was on the way to check 9420, finding neither Egypt nor Greece (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA [and non]. 9535, Oct 29 at 2335, Chinese atop music from RHC // 11760, Commies vs Commies! Now 2300-2400 is listed as CRI English, 100 kW, 122 degrees from Kunming to CIRAF 50, which means Philippines and China`s own South China Sea (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 11670, Oct 29 at 2353, RHC music is overmodulated and distorted, while 11760 is OK; 13740 also somewhat distorted. See also CHINA [and non] 9535 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GERMANY. 15780-15785-15790, Oct 29 at 1814, DRM noise, presumed Romania or some major station, but the only thing B-17 HFCC listed on 15785 is 100-watt non-direxional BIX FNA in ERL, i.e. as in NDXC/Aoki A-17, bit eXpress, Erlangen, 24 hours. I never expected to hear it and for once wish I had DRM reception. Is it really 24 hours? I give up trying to find it in WRTH --- no major heading under Germany in International Section. It could be buried somewhere in the 14 pages of state-by-state FM National listings. And EiBi, based in Germany, does not even list it at all! See also SOUTH CAROLINA (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU [and non]. Good news and bad news. 5980 is now occupied by RRI, and it`s DRM spreading out plus/minus 7 kHz, not just 5! It`s not registered with HFCC as `N` = numÃrique. And on RRI`s own schedule as in DXLD 17-42, not specified as DRM either; and it`s for W Europe, not N America, altho we are right beyond there. So maybe DRM today by mistake.

But that`s good for my Chaski-checking. Despite the noise at S6 level, with BFO I can still detect an AM carrier amid it! If RRI were also in AM, it would not be easy to distinguish them. This carrier cuts off at 2333:44*, so it IS still little Radio Chaski, 7 seconds later than last night (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ROMANIA. 5973-5980-5987, Oct 29 at 2326, DRM noise, from RRI on new frequency for B-17, listed as NOT DRM, 2300-2400, 300 kW, 285 degrees from Galbeni for W Europe in English, and exceeding the claimed sharp 10-kHz bandwidth for DRM. Looks bad for Chaski-checking, but axually it`s good! See PERU.

5980, Oct 30 at 0003, RRI is now in AM in Spanish hour, ending news already and into Ritmos music show. Almost same parameters as previous hour, except 5 degrees less at 280, yet no change in slewing, and now for CIRAF 12NE = Venezuela in particular (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SOUTH CAROLINA. While checking EiBi unsuccessfully for bit eXpress on 15785, I notice another entry on same frequency, M-F at 1000-1100, ``Molester Stair`` from USA site-n which must mean WWCR Nashville, except I thought they were on 15795 early before switching to 15825. Then it`s clear that EiBi has changed all 55 Brother Stair listings to Molester Stair. Now, now (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SPAIN. 15500 > 9690 > 17755, Sun Oct 29 at 1812, REE NAm frequency 9690 has improved, but still not quite equal to the first one aimed exactly in the opposite direxion toward Mideast. Fourth frequency is still 15390, now redirected to be the one for S America, but unheard. Silly ballgame in progress (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** THAILAND. 13745, Oct 30 at 0000, R. Thailand from the PR Department is opening English to North America, poor S6-S7 and ACI from very strong Cuba which is still on 13740. Totally unnecessary for these to be adjacent with plenty of open frequencies. Found expected B-season change from 15590 without even looking it up (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TURKEY. 5960, Oct 29 at 2347, VOT sign-off with English schedule, last frequency mentioned being 6165 which was an A-17, not B-17 frequency! So out of date info. But now the ``recorded at 23 and 04`` advisory has become correct. Anyway, Emirler has made the B-17 frequency and time change, ex 22 on 9830, now 2300 on 5960 to North America --- and guess what, again forgets to turn off the transmitter so next language on web/satellite feed, German, is heard on 5960 at 0002 October 30. Oh2, if they overrun on UT Sunday, that will collide with The Mighty KBC --- another reason to have avoided that new frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 15051-USB & 13270-USB, Oct 29 at 1819, no signals from New York Radio VOLMET, but at 1820 Gander can be heard weakly on both. For some time I had missed hearing NYR`s night frequency 3485, but now find it`s totally off, as Mike Cooper has reported:

``After several weeks where all reporting stations were "missing," now New York VOLMET seems to have been off the air for the past week. I've found no NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) indicating that it is out of service or decommissioned. Perhaps this is the latest instance of a station being taken off the air to see if anyone notices (Mike Cooper, GA, Oct 29, DXLD)``

NYR is supposed to occupy the first 20 minutes of each semihour, then over to Gander for 10 minutes. Another check at 2340 UT Oct 29: no signals on USBs 3485, 6604, 10051, 13270 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1901 monitoring: Dave Kenny, UK, reports:

``Hi Glenn, World of Radio via Hamburger Lokalradio on 9485 cusb confirmed at 1130-1200 UT today (Sunday 29 October). WoR followed on from Media Network Plus which is now at 1100-1130 Sundays on 9485 via HLR. Both heard with a good signal here as usual - this frequency propagates well to the UK, although it doesn't often get reported.
73s Dave Kenny, listening in Caversham, Berkshire. with and AOR 7030 + 25m long wire``

Also confirmed Sunday Oct 29 at 2330 on WBCQ 9330.16v-CUSB, S6-S4.

I check WRN English to North America audio feed at 0140 UT Monday Oct 30 for WOR at 0130 and hear not English, but Slovak! From who else.
Schedule shows:
They have already shifted programming one UT hour later, with WOR at 0230 even tho we are still stuck on DST. Next:

Mon 0300v WBCQ 5130v Area 51 to WSW
Mon 0330 WRMI 9955 to SSE
Mon 2330 WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
Tue 0030 WRMI 7730 to WNW
Tue 2030 WRMI 11580 to NE, 9455 to WNW

** U S A. 15685-15735, Oct 29 at 1814, WHRI has made its usual B-season switch from 15760 to 15710 for Molester Stair, but it`s splattering over a 50-kHz range! Worse while MS is playing cruddy answering machine audio from some psychophant. At least this gets him away from 15770 if and when WRMI be able to resume there (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9475 & 5830, Oct 29 at 2332, WTWW-1 is still missing from both possible frequencies, and nothing from -2 or -3 either (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5050, Oct 29 at 2350, WWRB carrier is on at S9+40 but modulation is only dirty hum/buzz. Still registered here for B-17, but expected to go back to 3215/3195 split with WWCR, maybe in a week after DST (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 12050, Oct 29 at 2355, WEWN Spanish is dead air, or just barely modulated? Or from an understation? Nothing else in HFCC at this hour. Has it been dead air, all day, like at last check 1434? Would not surprise me. At 2359, 12050 is off, and 5810 is on with Salve Regina lead-in but undermodulated, S9+25; wiggle that patchcord? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** AUSTRALIA [and non]. 6230-USB, Oct 29 at 1335, marine weather at S6 from VMW Wiluna WA, per EiBi, but occasional 2-way USB CC QRM with North American accent. Klingenfuss showed this is also a worldwide ship calling simplex frequency; not a good share. And Sound of Hope/ChiCom jamming could also attack it (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** AUSTRALIA. 11865, Oct 29 at 1304, S Asian song, talk, good signal abutting Yemen non on 11860. Now it`s RBA per HFCC, 1125-1400 in Burmese, but likely in variety of minority languages too.

9610, Oct 29 at 1314, sounds English in S Asian praise group, S9-S7 with flutter. HFCC shows it`s Hindi service of RBA at 1300-1330, 100 kW at 305 degrees from KNX = Kununurra (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA. 6045 & 6045, Oct 29 at 1329, double CNR1 echo-jamming during Sunday evening serious music hour of Chinese opera singing. Now scheduled at 1200-1400 is IBB in Chinese-Mandarin, 250 kW, 30 degrees from Thailand, but quite buried here if not in China (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGST)

** CUBA. 6000, Oct 29 at 1338, RHC `En Contacto` conversation between Arnie Coro and the hostess (sorry, I haven`t caught her name). It`s pretty obvious that Coro writes the entire script, including what she says to him, lacking any spontaneity (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA [and non]. 13820, Oct 29 at 1342, Radio MartÃ, Greenville carrier is already open and the DentroCuban Jamming Command is litely pulsing --- as it has been all summer with RM never on it. But they are all set, as for B-17 RM makes its usual inexplicable switch from 13605 to 13820 for day hours. 13605 still has heavy wall-of-noise jamming against nothing. At this hour, the only two frequencies of RM are really 11930, music over jamming, and 7435, Hallowe`en music with no jamming. At 1400 sharp, 7435 cuts off air, and 13820 starts modulating instead. Still lite jamming on 13820 and heavy jamming on 13605, as 11930 continues. RM ID plugs 1180 from one end of the island to the other, and webcast, but nothing specific about its ``onda corta`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO [and non]. 21277.22-USB, approx., Oct 29 at 1349, XE1IM says his call sign, nothing more, every few seconds, with fonetix in English. Must be a contest calling frequency, and hard to pinpoint as no carrier and certainly not on 1-kHz steps. QRZ.com shows him as: ``DUARTE OROPEZA HECTOR SALVADOR, Calle Mexico No. 7, Col. AmpliaciÃn Revolucion, URUAPAN, MICHOACAN. Entre Campeche y Puebla 60153, Mexico``, not clear which are his apellidos, but probably the first two.

21213.67-USB, approx., Oct 29 at 1351, NR3X also making split-frequency contest contacts. QRZ.com shows NR3X as ``NC CONTESTERS, 133 MADELINE CT, YOUNGSVILLE, NC 27596-9232, USA``. These are some good signals on 14m, sporadic E likely despite 21525 WRMI achieving nothing more than a JBA carrier (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NEW ZEALAND. 11610, Oct 29 at 1255, RNZI VG on NF; suspect it`s still *not* on the 325 antenna-only as supposedly for the 11-13 UT block. When last used, this frequency would be markedly weaker.

7355, Oct 29 at 1302 recheck, RNZP now switched to next NF, ex-5980 which lasted only a few weeks. 40m is better for us, holds up longer into our dayside, still good circa 1430 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PALAU. 11675, Oct 29 at 1431 VG S9+10 in praise music, slow rolling fades. HFCC shows 1430-1600 as HBN = T8WH, 100 kW due west in English (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ROMANIA. 6035-6040-6045, Oct 29 at 0601, DRM noise, but the ZY het on the low side still audible; now it`s RRI in French (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SAIPAN. 11750.05, Oct 29 at 1307, off-frequency in SE Asian language. HFCC shows IBB in Khmer at 1230-1330, 100 kW, 270 degrees (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SOMALILAND. 7120, Oct 29 at 1322, music and talk S6-S8 but quite undermodulated, from R. Hargeisa long path when English is scheduled. No QRhAM, avoiding this intruder frequency, altho an occasional ``blaap`` of unknown provenance. I don`t detect any spurs on 7078/7162 as Rumen Pankov has reported (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SPAIN. 9690, Oct 29 at 1504, REE is as expected a JBA carrier on North American 290-degree frequency which in B-seasons opens weekends at 1500. If we want to hear it, instead must tune to new 15500 really aimed oppositely 110 degrees to elsewhere, but fair S9, as REE doesn`t understand propagation 101. For the extended 15-23 weekend broadcasts, the first half needs to be on a much higher band for us, such as 15 or 17 MHz. Also audible on 17755 at 161 degrees (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TIBET [non]. 11512, Oct 29 at 1309, JBA carrier, presumed V of Tibet via TAJIKISTAN on signature split frequency. No ChiCom jamming on 11510 or 11515 yet. Not in HFCC, of course, and we now await the NDXC/Aoki B17 skeds which will surely show it (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TURKEY. 12035.037, Oct 29 at 1332, VP talk, presumed English as now scheduled from VOT to Europe and USward, characteristically off-frequency-plus out of Emirler; ex 1230 on 15450 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [non]. 5840, Oct 29 at 1358, Korean from VOA // 9800. 5840 is TINIAN at 12-15; 9800 is Tinang, PHILIPPINES at 13-15. Never hear any jamming on these, maybe considered more for S than N Korea? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5830 & 9475, Oct 29 at 1357, WTWW-1 still missing from night and day frequencies, no PPPP, tsk2222 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. 9470, Oct 29 at 1434, no signal from WEWN English as per own schedule at 09-15 to SE Asia beaming across North America. However there is an S3 carrier, which HFCC shows as Iran in Bengali 500 kW, 90 degrees from Sirjan at 1420-1520. And it also shows WEWN 9470 as 0900-1200 only. Meanwhile, Spanish WEWN on 12050 is S9 of dead air, but was modulating earlier (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL. Wolfgang BÃschel replies to my Brazilian log on 9514.96, and what name it goes by?

``9515 (10 kW) ZYE726 "RÃdio Marumby onda mÃdia e onda curta", Curitiba PR

very same station name title 'a emissora da paz RÃdio Marumby':

Checked this 9515 kHz channel at 0910 UT on Oct 28, in remote Brisbane Queensland, only S=9+35dB powerhouse CNR2 Beijing visible as 11 kHz wide broadband block, but instead on Canadian Edmonton Alberta remote SDR access, also
9514.967 kHz Brazilian, most likely ZYE726 Radio Marumby ?? and equal S=7 level also CNR2 Beijing China mainland. 73 wb df5sx`` (Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA. 6075, Oct 28 at 2353, very raspy carrier, maybe jamming as Aoki shows both RFA Tibetan via Kuwait and RTI in Chinese until 2400, after which CRI English via Kashgar is clear (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA. 9820, Oct 28 at 2356, pop music mixing with talk in Chinese; not Brasil, which is still hetting from 9819. 2358 sounds like soft praise song, so Christian station? No. 0000 a 5+1 timesignal, and one or the other YL seems to say in English, ``Time: 8 A-M``, i.e. ChiCom time, one zone imperially imposed on the entire huge country which ought to span 3 or 4 like conterminous USA; and more music mixing with talk. YL tonal language, Vietnamese?

This is deliberate dentro-Chinese co-channel QRM, as Aoki shows scheduled are both: at 2055-2400, CNR2, 150 kW, 290 degrees from Xianyang 594 site; AND

Voice of Beibu Bay Radio, 15 kW, 225 degrees from Nanning 954 site, at 2300-2400 in English/Thai/Khmer, and 0000-0100 in Vietnamese. So it all fits. Art Delibert, Maryland, was hearing the same jumble one hour earlier (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** COLOMBIA. 5910.3, Oct 28 circa 2341, no signal from AlcaravÃn Radio, nor has there been for a week or two at various evening and nightmiddle chex. Has had protracted outages before, but eventually returned. What CCI will it face in B-17 night hours? HFCC shows only Romania in Romanian as usual at 01-03; besides the never-activated IRDR at 00-01 to all CIRAF zones, place-held by SMG Vatican site. But there will be diverse ACI on both sides, mostly from China (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** INDIA. 5040, Oct 29 at 0012, find RHC missing, but a very poor signal from algo; RHC Creole cuts on and off again after a second or two. Something`s always wrong at RHC. Also seems a JBA carrier circa 5041. 0026 last check, RHC still off, and JBAC on 5040. Aoki/NDXC shows it`s AIR Kolkata, 50 kW ND from Jeypore, nominal *0025.

5010 also has a JBA carrier at 0026, which can`t be the Cuban leapfrog since it takes both 5040 and 5025 to produce it, i.e. AIR Thiruvananthapuram, 50 kW ND from Chennai, starting at *0020 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ECUADOR. 6050, Oct 28 at 2350, HCJB is better than usual, S8 with amateur soloist in native language hymn ``The Church`s One Foundation``, then another him by amateur choir (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GERMANY [non]. Tnx to reminder from Richard Langley, we tune in the final SW broadcast in English from Deutsche Welle, which started at 1600 Oct 28, and no longer on the B-17 sked anywhen. Three of the five frequencies are audible here, roughly equal, less fading on the lower ones: 15290 & 15315 via FRANCE, and slightly delayed on 21780 via ASCENSION. 1651 a feature with songs and talk; still hard to copy. Hear mentioned FIFA, ValparaÃso and origami, a rather odd combination unless I misunderstand something. 1657 outro as end of this week`s show, referring us to DWGlobalSociety; 1659 jingle and a bit of vamping until 1659:30******* Off forever. Not a word to thank faithful SW listeners for decades of audience. The end of another era. Of course, DW blew off its North American SWLs in English many years ago, so they obviously quit caring about us long before now.

Well, in Enid we are lucky? enough to get some DW tv programs via our local cable access ETN, which has lots of time to fill with stuff having nothing to do with Enid (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MADAGASCAR. 11610, Oct 28 at 2139, MWV VG in Chinese, as good a signal as any on 25m, or even better than Cuba, WRMI; likewise 11790, Oct 28 at 2230 during the Arabic hour, S9+20. Hard to believe the Chinese is aimed at China? No, it`s not, rather both 325 degrees toward W Africa, Europe, and thUSward (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NEW ZEALAND. 5980, Oct 28 at 1330, RNZI is VG S9+10/20. Interview about translations to Maori. Should be last day for this very temporary new frequency, replaced by 7355 tomorrow, QSY from also reactivated 11610 during 1258-1259 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6955-AM, Oct 28 at 2225, JBA carrier from presumed pirate. These logs say it was Doctor Detroit:

** NORTH AMERICA. 6780-AM, Oct 28 at 2342, JBA carrier, perhaps pirate, a bit less JBA than 6770, but with less modulation on 6780. When I quit at 0021 Oct 29, 6780 is still on, but no big USB pirates have been audible since 2341:30* when 6875 went off. The Hallowe`en festival could continue for three more nights if not right now. No reports of 6780 at HFU (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6925.1-AM, Oct 28 at 2344, JBA carrier, perhaps pirate. This evening, HFU has unIDs on 6925-USB and LSB, but no 6925-AM since much earlier in day, Ion Radio at 1526-1549 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6935-USB, Oct 28 at 2225, rap music at S9+5; 2335 more than an hour later still going, now S9+30 in phone interview with someone throwing out MF-bombs and other profanity until chopped off the air at 2336*. When the FCC got `em? Not bloody likely. As expected, the very active Clever Name Radio as per multiple logs:

** NORTH AMERICA. 6875-USB, very good Oct 28 at 2331, interviewing Al-someone on phone about Hallowe`en, mentions R. Metallica Worldwide, but probably not an ID of this one. 2334 ``Monster Mash``. 2337 WHYP ID about to close, 2340 contact info with fake South-Asian accent making it hard to copy; buzzing-bees SFX by human voices? Inviting Al Fansome on the phone to do the s/off for the WHYP Hallowe`en show, until 2341:30* (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU. 5980, Oct 28 at 2332, more than a JBA carrier, S8 but undermodulated from R. Chaski, and splash from 5990 CRI/Cuba, until autocutoff at 2333:37*, so it really was R. Chaski, and not until tomorrow will Romania block it for B-17. Farewell! This is the expected 6.5 seconds later than yesterday until 2333:30.5* (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SPAIN. 17855, Sat Oct 28 at 2134, no signal from REE, nor on 17715, nor on 15390, but a JBA carrier on 15520. I believe 17855 was audible earlier today in a tuneby. Either off early or propagation dropped out on the final day of A-17 and of 17855 to North America. We`ll see how 9690 does starting B-17 tomorrow at 15-23 UT. Unlike 17855, it should start out poorly and improve as the day/night progresses. Second choice probably 15500 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TAIWAN [non]. 7265-CUSB, Sat Oct 28 from 1414 tune-in via UTwente SDR, HLR fair with `Media Network Plus`, Keith in an archive interview with Rick O`Shea, something about radio chapstick(?). 1423 outro says more of it can be heard via http://patreon.com/pcjradio (which is mainly about raising funds for Happy Station shows). My 2+ minute propagation outlook runs at 1426, and some music. 1430, Hamburger Lokal Radio outro, promo, contact info, intro WORLD OF RADIO from 1431 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TURKEY. 9830, Sat Oct 28 at 2224, VOT English amid very informal mailbag, S5-S7 so `Letterbox` is confirmed as an on-week of the fortnightly, as projected in our DX/SWL/Media Programs. No RTTY CCI, which generally seems to stop by the time VOT starts at 2200. But from tomorrow for B-17, usual shift to 2300 on 5960 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1901 monitoring: confirmed Sat Oct 28 from 1431 on Hamburger Lokalradio, 7265-CUSB, via UTwente SDR. Fair and generally above the CCI until 1500* this time without HLR ID, off just as CRI is opening with increased signal. These two will still be vying for 7265 ears in B-17, when WOR is expected to shift an hour later to 1530 UT. (Also heard Media Network Plus until 1430; see TAIWAN [non]).

WOR also confirmed Sat Oct 28 at 2130 on WBCQ 9330.20v-CUSB, S9 (only transmitter on this early, nothing on 3, 5, or 7). Also confirmed Sat Oct 28 at 2300 on WRMI, 11580, good. Not confirmed UT Sun Oct 29 at 0200 on WRMI, 11580, since it`s a JBA carrier, and propagation for this one is not likely to improve thru the dark winter. Also confirmed starting at 0327 UT Sunday Oct 29 on good WA0RCR, 1860-AM, Wentzville MO, with Vern`s introduxion, and truncated opening minus the billboard to minimize the forbidden music. Vern also has to interrupt with his own ID every dekaminute. Next:
Sun 0315v WA0RCR 1860-AM ND
Sun 1030 HLR 9485-CUSB to WSW [or 1130? with DST off]
Sun 2330 WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
Mon 0300v WBCQ 5130v Area 51 to WSW
Mon 0330 WRMI 9955 to SSE
Mon 2330 WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
Tue 0030 WRMI 7730 to WNW
Tue 2030 WRMI 11580 to NE, 9455 to WNW

** U S A. 7490, Oct 29 before 2400, WBCQ with J. P. Ferraro on ``SW Saturday Night` with leftish politix. 9330.02 after WOR, at 2200 is airing Blalock the Blaster, and again after 0000. Missed checking what`s on at 23-24, maybe still AWWW repeat; the online Program Guide still hasn`t been updated about this. At 0014 Oct 29 check, neither 3265- nor 5130+ is on, the latter scheduled for `Radio Timtron Worldwide` at 23-01 Sat into UT Sun (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9370, Oct 28 at 0606, WWRBS once again is stuck on day frequency, VP S3, nothing on 3185. Wake up2, Dave! (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 15610, Oct 28 at 1700, 2135, no signal from WEWN, nor at numerous other daytime chex the last few days; (15825 WWCR is poorly audible, as usual, about the same distance in a slightly different direxion.) B-17 sked is now up at
alleging that they are still broadcasting in English! New 9470 at 09-15 to SE Asia, i.e. across North America at 335 degrees; then 15610 at 15-19 to Europe, 15610 at 19-24 to Africa; 11520 at 00-09 to Africa. Frequency page also linx to ``Shortwave Radio Update`` which maybe will explain why they are off? Except it`s a pop-up and blank, just like the English frequencies!

** U S A. 9475, Oct 28 after 1800 and again at 2141 check, no signal from WTWW-1, in addition to nothing from WTWW-2 on 9930, WTWW-3 on 12105. 5085, Oct 29 at 0127, however, WTWW-2 has come on for `Theatre Organ in the Ozarx`. 5085 is still on with other music at 0326, and 5830 WTWW-1 is still AWOL (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 5935, Oct 28 at 2345, JBA carrier from possible R. Yura, much weaker than other Bolivians like S8 Pio 12 on 5952.48. Could be Tibet, but also weaker than more likely Tibetans on 4905, 4920; several much stronger Chinese on same band like 6080, 6090.

Noise burst jolts at 2348, probably from nearest street-light igniting a few minutes after our almost clear sky at 2339 sunset (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
