Glenn Hauser logs October 27-28, 2017  View Printable Version
Saturday, October 28 2017

Hauser
** BOLIVIA. 5935, Oct 27 at 2326, JJBA carrier even weaker than 5980 PerÃ, perhaps Radio Yura; same at 2357 before WWCR blasts on at *2358:49; but could also be Tibet. Do South Americans find Yura consistently on the air? Soon won`t matter for us, as WWCR earlies its opening for B-17 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL. 9514.96, Oct 27 at 2345, very poor S5-S7 off-frequency signal, probably Brasil. Seldom heard here compared to others on 31m, maybe due to limited hours. EiBi shows RÃdio Marumby at 0700-2300 and on 9514.9! Manuel MÃndez, Spain reported 9514.9, Radio Marumby, Curitiba, at 2026-2035, 15-10. Other reports: just ``9515``: as logged by Carlos GonÃalves, Oct 13 at 2142-2153. WRTH 2017 also listed R. Marumby, ZYE726 on 9515, but no hours given.

However, current NDXC/Aoki names 9515 instead R. Novas de Paz, still from Curitiba PR with ZYE726 calls, 10 kW at 310 degrees across Brasil, and should be good for us beyond. I vaguely recall that Marumby may have changed its name/been sold for all frequencies, but only one source now has the different name. We need to quote how they axually ID now. See 9666.13 log where I did hear Marumby mentioned on another station.

What else could be on 9515? For HFCC, all the Brazilian SW stations are non-existent, but there is a wooden DHA/UAE listed at 2030-2400, and CNR Beijing at 2055-2400; Aoki says it`s CNR2 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL. 9666.13, Oct 27 at 2347, Brazuguese talk and music, 2359 mentions Radio Marumby in passing, maybe program source about the alfabet, for this is R. Voz MissionÃria, SC. Now varied up higher after a spell close to 9665.9 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GUAM. 11540, Oct 27 at 1401, YL in unknown language utters ``AWR`` with English letters, gospel-sounding songs, S9. It`s KSDA, 1400-1430 in Asho Chin, 100 kW, 285 degrees from Agat, per NDXC/Aoki. EiBi lists Chin-Asho as spoken by only a myriad of people in the Arakan Hills of Myanmar (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6935-USB, Oct 27 at 2327, pirate music at S9+25; 2318 synthyl with ``Good evening, you are listening to Clever Name Radio . . . clevernameradio@hotmail.com``. Off before next check at 2355.
[nothing from S American pirates this hour on 6973, 6925 or 5825] (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU [and non]. 4764+, Oct 27 at 2328, JBA carrier, presumed R. Huanta Dos Mil, vs CODAR but which is also weak at this spot; no improvement, nor any expected by 2357 when it`s also getting a het from another very weak signal on 4765.0, presumably Tajikistan but which supposedly signs on at 2300 for a 21-hour, 100 kW ND broadcast (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU. 5980, Oct 27 at 2325, JBA carrier from R. Chaski, Urubamba, until autocutoff at 2333:30.5*, i.e. 13.5 seconds later than another binite ago, Oct 25 until 2333:17*, or averaging 6.75 seconds later per. Hope to make one more check Oct 28, hoping Romania have not yet started B-17 English at 23-24 on 5980, altho it`s after midnight Oct 29 there (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SAUDI ARABIA. 9675, Oct 27 at 2012, ``Salaam Aleikum`` and fanfare, very poor S8-S7, but it must not be Arabic, since BSKSA Turkish is scheduled here, 1800-2057, 500 kW overkill, 340 degrees from Riyadh and USward. 9870, BSKSA in Arabic at 310 degrees is also in and not unusual (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SAUDI ARABIA. 11745, Oct 27 at 1303, ME music, S9-S7 with heavy flutter, 1311 YL announcements in Arabic, 1319 bit of patriotic/militaristic music and recitation, back to a song. No ID heard, but surely the new SA military service Al-Azm, ``Determination`` for forces near Yemen.

Similar to signal on 11860, the Yemeni service, so could easily be from same site Riyadh or Jeddah ---- but by 1347, 11745 is weakening and 11860 is strengthening to S9+20. By 1359 even weaker by comparison; 1456 recheck, both are JBA carriers. One report had it on 11745.4, but I did not notice it being off-frequency. Meanwhile, 15380, the BSKSA buzzy service is S5-S8 at 1347 and weaker than both (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 13556, Oct 27 at 1349, HIFER beacon ID ``WV`` sent about 11 times per minute, JBA CW vs CODAR. First time I`ve heard this one, and no others audible now on either side of 13560. LWCA list has it:
``13555.830~ WV Richwood W Virginia EM95rf 5wpm CW; WA8YWO (2017/08)``
http://www.lwca.org/sitepage/part15/index.htm
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1901 monitoring: confirmed Friday October 27 at 2330 on WBCQ, 9330.20v-CUSB, S9 to S9+10, but by 2345 faded down to ~S6. From Nov 6 everything on WBCQ shifts one UT hour later in order to keep matching Eastern time, which means another hour of darkness depressing the MUF for the rest of autumn and winter. Next:
Sat 0620v HLR 6190-CUSB to WSW
Sat 1431 HLR 7265-CUSB to WSW
Sat 1930v WA0RCR 1860-AM ND
Sat 2130 WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
Sat 2300 WRMI 11580 to NE
Sun 0200 WRMI 11580 to NE
Sun 0315v WA0RCR 1860-AM ND
Sun 1030 HLR 9485-CUSB to WSW [or 1130? with DST off]
Sun 2330 WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
Mon 0300v WBCQ 5130v Area 51 to WSW
Mon 0330 WRMI 9955 to SSE
Mon 2330 WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
Tue 0030 WRMI 7730 to WNW
Tue 2030 WRMI 11580 to NE, 9455 to WNW
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5985, Oct 27 at 0540 check, African music, so this extended hour from WRMI is now playing World Music, instead of Brother Scare or Brother Walker (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 3264.89v, Oct 28 at 0000, the new WBCQ is on as `Allan Weiner Worldwide` is opening with ``William Tell Overture``, poor S5-S8, but definitely audible and // 7490, or rather 7489.99 as measured at 0107. While I`m at it, the third WBCQ AWW is on 5130.36. Show starts with AW and Timtron reminiscing. Lowest channel has some hets, but may be NRDies here. Or maybe not. Over to John Carver, Mid-North Indiana for the rest of the story as I missed all the excitement:

``Tonight's show started on time this evening. TimTron and Angela were in the studio with Allan. Talk this evening was about when Tim and Allan first actually broadcast into a real transmitter. Allen started at thirteen and that was the also the first time he blew up a transmitter.

Pirate Joe called in and reported that 3265 was down. TimTron left to check it out. Allan put some music on and left to join Tim in the transmitter building. First time I can recall that happening. Allan back on the radio at 0025. They said they'd fixed the transmitter and continued on with a phone call. JP called in again and reported another problem with the transmitter. They proceeded to troubleshoot the problem from the studio while talking to JP on the phone while they flipped various switches and such trying to isolate the problem. Second problem was determined to be the phone line so no fix for that other than replacing the phone line.

This caused Allan to mention that there had been another problem with that transmitter earlier that week that he noticed when he was doing an inspection. Part had come loose and was dangling by its wires in front of the blower. Allan moved the part and bridged over a partial break in the line with a jumper and vowed to fix the problem this week. Reading of emails began at 0103 and early in the emails was one that stated that not only did WBCQ broadcast on a shoestring, they also tracked down problems and repaired them on the air while we listened in. Show was off the air at 0141`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 13448.24-USB, Oct 27 at 1354, 2-way in Spanish vs CODAR, including yawns, laughing; 1356 mentions ``puta-madre``. Altho it`s hard for me to understand anything else, I *never* hear anything resembling an ID from these, intruders or not. Assuming most are Mexican, are there any regulations or enforcement? There sure are plenty concerning broadcasters in that country (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

This report dispatched at 0217 UT October 28

Glenn Hauser logs October 25-26-27, 2017  View Printable Version
Friday, October 27 2017

Hauser
** ARGENTINA [non]. 7730, Oct 26 at 0633 check, Japanese talk, so RAE relay hour is back via WRMI, having defaulted to World Music fill 24 hours earlier (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 17730, Oct 26 at 1408, RHC is dead air, but the SSOB; while 15370 is VG S9+20 and modulating to boot. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** EGYPT. 12005, Oct 26 at 2318 and later chex, no signal from R. Cairo, scheduled 2215-0200 in Portuguese, Arabic, Spanish to South America, 250 kW, 241 degrees from Abis. I`m checking whether this exist, as B-17 change to 9420 would collide with Greece. 12005 could well be on and not propagating (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** IRAN. 11640, Oct 26 at 1421, few fluttery piano notes and off, but enough to recognize as VIRI IS: yes, Russian hour ending as scheduled, 500 kW, 336 degrees from Sirjan, aimed I suppose toward Moskva, and not too far off the azimuth USward far beyond (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6935-USB, Oct 25 at 2130 & 2142, pirate music at S6-S8. This thread says it`s Clever Name Radio again, 2107-2154*
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,38229.0.html
Except for someone in Denver, all the other reporters are east of me (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6940-USB, Oct 26 at 2309, pirate music, novelty song, S9+10, maybe Pink Floyd; recheck at 2320 I hear a couple notes and off. ACI soon leads to similar, maybe same station shifted to:

6935-USB, Oct 26 at 2321, more music; 2336, Synthyl announcements repeated, ``Good evening and welcome to Clever Name Radio [unreadable, something about ``recording device``], clevernameradio@hotmail.com `` After another tune, 2341 same ID again played about 11 times, the last half at sped-up pace, 2343 music.

These logs of 6935 were from as early as 2042 led from unID to Clever Name Radio, and someone in UK said at 2303-2316 it tried 6940 before going back to 6935.
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,38259.0.html
And more jumping back and forth:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,38263.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU. 4764, Oct 26 at 1105, no signal from Radio Huanta 2000, new frequency as 4764.06 reported by Dave Valko, PA based on ID by Don Moore currently visiting PerÃ, ex-4747v.

4764.06 approx., Oct 26 at 2344 JBA carrier vs CODAR at tune-in, but vanishes just as I almost finish measuring it; oh, back on or in at 2347, but too weak to justify further following. Did they bump the transmitter or deliberately change? Not a good idea if they plan to use it after Radio Progreso, Cuba comes on 4765 at *0030 (after DST: *0130). Could also face het from 4765 Tajikistan. Wolfgang BÃschel is also monitoring this: ``checked tonight here in Germany, 2300 UT Oct 26, PERU, 4764.054, R Huanta 2000, Ayacucho, peak visible`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU. 5980, Oct 25 at 2331, JBA carrier from R. Chaski until autocutoff at 2333:17*; however another weaker carrier remains, maybe just from overload. That`s 13 seconds later than last check a binite ago, Oct 23 to 2333:02*, easily averaging 6.5 seconds later per.

5980, Oct 26 at 2313 shortly after starting my session, JBA carrier already audible, but I`m too busy with other things and miss the next chopoff circa 2333:23, not getting back on frequency until 2334, shux! I only have one or two more opps to catch it before Romania usurps 5980 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 13565, Oct 26 at 1416, K6FRC repeating CW beacon IDs barely audible, vs CODAR. This Californian, using a real ham call, continues to be the only one heard on this band, and this daypart seems best for it (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 25000, Oct 26 at 2058, WWV is making it to S9 level, which if it happens this close, under 500 miles, must be sporadic E. MUF map shows some lower patches to the west, but not between here and Fort Collins. See also WHRI & WRMI logs on 21 MHz (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1901 monitoring: ``From: Richard Lemke, City: St. Albert, Province: Alberta, Country: Canada. Hello Glen[n]: Heard and confirmed World of Radio, #1901, hearing at 1030, and ID at 1045 (55443), this was on 5850 kHz, on Oct 25 UT 2017. See you sometime down the log 100 shows and counting to reach #2000 edition, good health to you, don't strain your voice. Best regards, Richard, Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF, Antenna: random long wires in the trees. Location: Backyard corner shaped lot with trees. Age: 54 years young``. Tnx, Richard for keeping track when I`m usually asleep.

Confirmed Wed Oct 25 at 2100 on WBCQ, 7490, good. Also confirmed Wed Oct 25 at 2330 on WBCQ, 9330.08v-CUSB, fair. After two no-shows of the new time for WOR appearing on the WRMI sked, Oct 12 & 19, Thu at 2230, I`m standing by for a third try Oct 26: VG carrier is on at 2229 tune-in, but remains silent. Finally at 2235, fade-up WOR 1901 in progress, down and up another time or two, and then stays up to 2259 over. Next:

** U S A. 17775, Oct 26 at 2055, KVOH extended Thursday broadcast benefits from VG signal, perhaps with sporadic E boost, and still no spur/noise field; off by 2100 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 21525, Oct 26 at 2057, WRMI Radio Africa inbooming, and so is 21610 WHRI, rather than JBA carriers with F2 MUF far below 21 MHz, so now there must be sporadic E boost, unusual for October. Yes, checked within a semihour, the 6m map shows a 31 MHz MUF patch around Memphis. But there is NO activity heard on the 21, 24 or 28 MHz hambands, nor 25-26 MHz linx, nor 27 MHz CB, as everybody apparently missed the opening. Should have been some contacts at least on ``15`` meters with those two loud and clear broadcasters, despite being somewhat more powerful at 100 and 250 kW.

Recheck 6m map circa 0100 Oct 27: big Es opening for hams across SE quadrant of USA, MUF 65 MHz, still not enough for FM, but channel 2 or 3 could be affected, so I watch snow in analog, and NO SIGNAL in DTV on channel 2. High winds here have briefly cut power four times this evening, line shorts upstream? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. Re my search for 1560 KGOW Bellaire TX now in Vietnamese, Stephen Luce, Houston, replies, ``Glenn, KGOW flipped to Vietnamese on October 1st. The previous sports format moved to translator K231CN on 94.1 FM. KGOW is still operating full time from its night site, so the former strong signal heading NNE from the day site during critical hours is no longer there`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1710, Oct 26 around 0630, JBA carrier; but at 1104, usual screaming preacher and crowd response from Radio RetÃn lo que Tienes, BÃton Rouge LA pirate (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED 5982.00-USB, Oct 26 at 2314, 2-way in colloquial Spanish, 2317 addressing ``compaÃeros`` but no swearwords made out. If only 5980 R. Chaski, Perà were putting in a signal this good (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 6925-USB, Oct 26 at 2311, trace of talk, maybe R. CompaÃÃa Worldwide, Chilean pirate. 6925-LSB, Oct 26 at 2339, stronger 2-way in language sounds Brazuguese. From Chris Smolinski`s tips yesterday about this time, I`m looking for S American pirates, also on 6973 - nothing, and 5825 - nothing here. Also no show of RHC difference product on 6840 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 12001.60-USB, Oct 26 at 2318, 2-way in colloquial Spanish as I am checking for Cairo on 12005 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BOLIVIA [non]. 5935, Oct 25 at 1203, JBA talk, now that WWCR has closed, no doubt TIBET at this hour. When did sun rise at Yura? 0946 UT per:
https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/@3900882
2+ hours would really be pushing it for 49mb propagation, especially contra a 100 kW from Lhasa. Even when it`s an all-dark path before 2358, Yura is JBA carrier. Our SR/SS: 1248/2342 UT (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CANADA. 1610, Oct 25 at 1213 UT, ending informaciones in Spanish; I keep hoping to hear something besides CHHA Toronto here, but followed by ad with 416 area-code which is as good as an ID. XEUACH is much desired, the only Mexican; in Spanish there are also Peruvians and Argentines per the BDXC X-band list copied into DXLD 17-41 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA [and non]. 9535, Oct 25 at 0632, oh2, RHC in English! This frequency is supposed to close at 0500 after Spanish, not the first time this has happened; weaker than // 6000, 6060, 6100, while 5040 is off and 6145/6165 is still gone, so surely transmitters to spare.

Now it`s colliding with Qur`an from Algeria via FRANCE underneath, which is supposed to be in clear on 9535, making SAH of about 3 Hz but not steady, probably due to slight Doppler variations in propagation of one or both. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. Re: ``6935-USB, Oct 23 at 2205, pirate music with very repetitive beat, almost disco; 2210 announcement over music, unseems ID. Still going past 2220 at S7-S9. Earlier than I usually patrol the band, but good thing I did since no pirates were logged in later hours by anyone this date, than Cool AM [sic] on 6935-USB per:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,38173.0.html
Gone by my next check at 2353 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)``

Chris Smolinski replies: ``99 44/100% sure this was Clever Name Radio. He is usually in 6940 USB or 6935 USB when 6940 is occupied with a ute. He's been fairly prolific recently, and often plays long stretches of music without IDs``

Altho subjected as Cool AM, one of the HFU posts said it was Cool AM being *relayed* by Clever Name; including IDs for Cool AM. how confusing (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1901 monitoring: confirmed Wednesday October 25 at 1315 on WRMI 9955, good signal, but pulse jamming, increasing as WRMI fades a bit. Tnx a lot, Arnie! WOR remains readable if you put up with the noise. Next:

** U S A. 7730, Oct 25 at 0635, WRMI with frantic steel drum tune, not what RAE would be playing in Japanese service scheduled this hour; 0640 seguà to promotional song ``Cayman Holiday``. So WRMI has defaulted to World Music fill in absence of Argentina. But RAE is still showing on other transmissions, such as:

11580, Oct 25 at 1325, concluding RAE French ``Ã demain``, but really ``Ã la prochaine demi-heure`` since alone among RAE languages, this one is half an hour only, aired twice. It would make more sense for each pair to be one from today, one from yesterday rather than an immediate repeat, and could be as I have not compared them. Also 11580, Oct 25 at 1428 check still amid RAE Spanish hour (which RAE continues to ignore, be unaware of). I`ve also recently run across Italian after 22 on 11580 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5950, Wed Oct 25 at 1204, Ray Robinson is reading some historical script, so got to be AWR Wavescan via WRMI --- strikes me as unsked time: yes, DX PROGRAMS shows it at 1130 instead; and WRMI skedgrid does not even show 5950 on the air after 1200, but 1130 as Radio Praga from WRMI-14 at 181 degrees. However, the program schedules below the frequency grid do show 5950 extended 1200-1230 with WS on Wed & Sun, also other DX programs, Frecuencia al DÃa, Antena DX and some other variety (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1560, Oct 25 at 1216 UT, promo for something at 4 pm on KLNG, Christian stuff. I am here trying to dig some Vietnamese out of the QRM, as NRC DX News reports that KGOW Bellaire TX has flipped to that from sports in English! But no sign of it.

KLNG is plenty strong like the 10 kW ND daytimer it is from Council Bluffs IA. Trouble is, official October sunrise per FCC AM Query is not until 1230 UT (November: 1315 UT), after which for two Critical Hours it is supposedly restricted to 2.1 kW. If anything at this hour, it should be running PSRA (pre-sunrise authority) of only 1.32 watts --- yes, that is one-point-three-two watts as in NRC AM Log! Clearly not worth bothering with, so why wait if you are one of God`s stations above the Laws of Man? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
