Friday, March 07 2025
** AUSTRALIA [and non]. 10125 USB, March 6 at 0656, trace of ham QSOs with Oz accent, vs 10125 CW, HK3QQ with usual fraxured keyboard letters loop. First time in many months I`ve heard the SSB, from Australia, the only? country authorizing hams to phone on ``30`` meters. Never could copy any IDs in ragchews (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2285)
** CANADA. 540, March 6 at 0733 UT, English discussion // 990 CBW, so this is CBK Watrous/Regina SK, seldom heard anymore enough to overcome XEWA et al. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** MEXICO. 1549.82, March 6 at 0658, JBA carrier hetting 1550 stations, probably XEREL Morelia still doing it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2285)
** SOUTH CAROLINA [non]. 5890, March 6 at 0702 UT, WWCR-4 on again with TOMBS attempting to sing, despite weekend-only overnight scheduling altho this is Thursday, S9+50, and // but not synchronized to 5850 WRMI-12 which by comparison is quite undermodulated, and only S9+35/40 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2284 monitoring: confirmed UT Thursday March 6 at 0130 on WRMI 5010, S7/S9+10 into Bonaire SDR; however must not have played to end as there was music fill by 0157.

** U S A. Re my non-reception of 17525 WMLK: ``17525 is still active and was noted at 1630 UT today [March 5]. One thing I will say about WMLK is that compared to WINB they have a far better quality signal. WINB always sounds really compressed. Source programme issue maybe? Tony Pavick, Hope BC``
Today March 6 at 1633, no 17525 but on 15150, S9+10/15 into Wichita SDR; 1658 s/off with address for reports, bit of music till 1700* sharp. Original schedule was 15150 to 1700, 17525 from 1730. Via UTwente I sit on 17525, which cuts on S9/+10 carrier 17525.011- at *1727, 1730 s/on giving ``licensed to broadcast at 0400-0900 & 1700-2200`` but no frequencies mentioned!
Other replies earlier, from Wolfgang Buschel: ``A25 season hfcc.org requests via US FCC 9275 2300 0400 27,28,39 MLK 300 53 0 902 123456 300325 261025 Eng 721 15150 1200 1700 27,28,39 MLK 300 53 0 902 123456 300325 261025 Eng 830 17525 1730 2230 27,28,39 MLK 300 53 0 902 123456 300325 261025 Eng 888
17530 1700 1830 46-47,52,53,57 GB 250 90 -4 883 daily 300325-251025 Eng USA AGM towards Horn of AF – or Ciraf all AF from north to south though, 5 kHz away neighbour of WMLK. 73 wolfie ``
``The WMLK 17525 frequency 1730-2230 in A-25 caught my eye, as VOA English used 17530 from 1700-1830 during A-24. Tight squeeze from 1730-1830 in A-25 if VOA retains that frequency. Of course the entire USAGM shortwave output could be facing drastic cuts, so who knows what will happen. Stephen Luce, Houston, Texas`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 4831.20, March 6 at 0659, JBA carrier, suspect spur out of very strong WWCR-3, 4840; but no match +8.8 kHz on other side. This is quite steady unlike the spurfield out of 5935 WWCR-2. New transmitter sked from March 9 for DST season is now up showing some changes, mostly one-hour shifts in some spans, but not all to earlier: https://www.wwcr.com/transmitter-sched.html We expect all programming moves one UT hour earlier to stay at same Central time after the imposition of daylight-shifting (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** VANUATU. 7260, March 6 at 0657, RV is already here in JBA music, no 9960, and 7260 continues after 0700 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2285)
** VATICAN. 15565, March 6 at 0716, JBA carrier, the OSOB except for 15770 WRMI also very weak. SMG site in convoluted schedule of languages and times (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
UNIDENTIFIED [non]. 13554-13566, March 6 at 1633, NO trace of any CW beacon in the ``HIFER`` ISM band -- just the local RF ID clutterstuff around 13560. I bandscan this at least once a day or night, but nothing heard for several months. Used to occasionally pull one. Is it only my noise level, propagation, or are few of these really active? Look at this list and hunt them: https://www.lwca.net/sitepage/part15/index.htm (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
UNIDENTIFIED. 15916.0, March 6 at 1618, open carrier except for clix every second, S7/S8 but which are detectable out to 15902/15927; same as recently heard on 7636.0, 9236.0, no listings for any in Klingenfuß 2022. Perhaps significant that they all end in 6? What are they? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2285)

Glenn Hauser logs March 4-5, 2025 |
|
Thursday, March 06 2025
** ALGERIA. 13855, March 4 at 2320, presumed Ifrikya FM, Ouargla, S9/+10 talk direct but JBM, per EiBi at 1900-0100. 13640, Béchar, March 5 at 2315, S9/+10 but JBM, // 13855 Ouargla S9/+10 but slightly less JBM, i.e. more modulation. 13640 sked is 1900-0300. Weakest link syndrome, JBM feed from studio? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** ARGENTINA. 28466 USB, March 4 at 2317, Juan LU9HVR in Córdoba province making quick contacts among quite a bit of activity on 10m. QRZ.com with photos of self, equipment, 10m certificates: ``LU9HVR Argentina flag Argentina, JUAN PABLO COSTANZO, SIMON BOLIVAR 500 Y PJE PUBLICO, RIO CEBALLOS-CORDOBA 5111, Argentina`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** BRAZIL. 9818.55, March 5 at 0722, JBA carrier, no doubt R. Nove de Julho on signature skewed frequency, which had been off for several nights, as also reported by:
``Manuel Méndez, Lugo, Spain: BRAZIL, 9818.6. After several days off the air, Radio 9 de Julho, São Paulo is back on 9818.6. Heard right now, 0645, 05-03, with its usual religious program. 25422.``
And Rudolf Grimm, SP, reported March 3: ``9818,9 kHz: Radio Nove de Julho, São Paulo SP: Active, but not continuously in SW`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CHINA. 15800, March 5 at 2318, S8/S9 JBA with Doppler flutter, no doubt CNR1 jammer vs Sound of Hope, nothing else listed. 15610 ditto at 2317. Certainly not WEWN, which reactivated carrier here briefly but never resumed programming. M. Angelica`s ghost must prioritize Spanish on 12050 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** IRAN. 1322.989-, March 4 at 2334, Qur`an catches my ear via UTwente, as I am rechecking the IRRS/AM Italia frequency which carries WOR at 2100 Tuesdays, today with some CCI under. Per mwlist this is surely the 50 kW IRIB external service in Azeri, 50 kW from Jolfa, which is normally off the air 2020-0120, but this is Ramadan, so now it`s all-night as in WRTH showing for // 7230 during March, and which is also audible with same on 7230.006+. There is a variety of music, soft talk, and the very pleasant soft VIRI interval signal, periodically such as at 0009, 0017 March 5. At latter time, also some pulsing QRM, surely not jamming (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** OKLAHOMA. 1390, March 5 at 0747 UT, dead air at S9+65 from my nearest local KCRC Enid, instead of stupid sports talk; same of course on its sibling, 1640 KZLS, S9+45. Both finally enliven at 0800. Nothing else can be heard under 1390 without nulling, inconvenient at this late hour, but else is on 1640, heard 914 area code, but must have been on a network as that`s Westchester County north of NYC, no 1640 stations (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)
** OKLAHOMA. 95.7, March 5 at 2035 UT, dead air from KXLS ``Lahoma`` = Enid market, but remodulating at 2042 check; the same cluster providing DA on 1390/1640 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** OKLAHOMA. 95.1, March 5 at 2040, undermodulated $ tereo country music from Part 15 in downtown Enid, normally dead air, and resumes that by next check 2118 (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)
** PUERTO RICO. 391 MCW kHz, March 5 at 0732 UT, DDP, ND beacon heard for first time since Dec 27 altho there was a carrier on Jan 11. I check for it every night in bandscan. Can`t hear it tuned to 391 USB due to somethings on 392, 395, but clearly with 391 LSB. This time there is nothing audible further north than perennial 293 FBY FairBurY, Nebraska. RNA Signals List says 2000 watts at San Juan / DoraDo / Luis Muñoz Marín Intl. Still haven`t been able to hear any others in Caribbean, Latin America if even active (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** SPAIN. 9690, Wed Mar 5 at 2300, token English from SNR, S9+30/40 direct, preview feature about an International Art Fair featuring S America; 2301 news leads with *rump getting a letter from Zelenskyy; tariffs against Mexico and Canada kick in, retaliation promised. Still NO 12030; 17715 S8/S9, 17755 JBA. Sorry, I`d rather SEE art than HEAR about it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.004-, March 4 at 2315, JBA carrier direct the so-called N American service in English of VOT, but after 2335 when measured via UTwente, S9+30/40; mostly music until s/off 2354 awry as if it`s the 1330 broadcast, IS chopped erroneously after only 6 notes before 2355* uncovering China music.
5960.003-, March 5 at 2259, VOT English JBA direct; 2330 into UTwente when measured, S9+20/30 with music, 2335 ``with-you-every-hour`` promo, music; 2340 ``always-by-your-side`` promo - or was it the other way around? and more music. By 2359 it`s East Turkistan only on 5960.003+; standard genocidal denunciations (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2284 monitoring: ``from Richard Lemke, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, the desk of Richard’s listening Post, Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF (30 years of service), Antenna: random long wires in the trees, WRMI, USA, World of Radio #2284, 9395 kHz, QRN, 0030, 0045, 0057 (4-55433), 0059, March 5 UTC 2025 [Wed] (Lemke, Richard -AB)``
Confirmed UT Wednesday March 5 at 0030 on WRMI 9395, S9+30/35 into Georgia SDR. From next week; Tuesday 2330.
Also confirmed Wednesday March 5 at 2030 on SW Radio, Germany, 3975.003, S9+5/15 into UTwente.
Also confirmed Wednesday March 5 at 2200 on WBCQ 7490 -76 Hz = 7489.924, S9+15/20 into NH SDR. Preceded by TOMBS // but not synch to 9930 WTWW. 7490 concluding 2159 with failed attempt to sing; what became of the `Pirate Joe Extravaganzo` just before WOR and still on the sked?? TOMBS is on there until 2100. Of course all WBCQ times shift one real UT hour earlier from next week due to imposition of Daylight Shifting Time, funxioning like a domestic rather than planetary station; time is not and *cannot* be ``Saved`` by fiddling with clox. Next:
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S; 1730 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160.
Thanks this week to Terry L Krueger, Niceville FL for a contribution to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702, ``for all your years of dedication to accuracy``
One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to: woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 9955, Wed March 5 at 1624, JBA S5/S6 presumably WRMI. Its transmitter grid shows WRMI-3 until 1600* except Saturday TOMBS -1700. System B program grid shows until 1630 daily with something from WRN before going to internet only until 2200 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 9455, Wed March 5 at 2321, WRMI S9+40/50 with John spelling out slowly at least thrice his VORW email address, then a music request from Windsor, Ont. WRMI skedgrid shows VORW on 7570 at this time, not 9455. Yet another contradixion (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 810 kHz, March 5 at 0740-0743+ UT, dead air at S9+45, surely WHB Kansas City failing to talk sports. Checking of course for the mystery 810.6v carrier, none now (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 1150 kHz, March 5 at 0745 UT, S9+30 of dead air, surely my dominant KSAL, Salina KS, normally `C2CAM`. `Tis the season for solar transit outages on satellite feeds, but not in the nightmiddle! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
U S A. 1680 kHz, March 5 at 0751 UT, deliberate talk in very strange language, like fraxured French? Heard Québec mentioned. Could be Haitian Kriyol. Yes! mwlist, but not NRC AM Log, shows WOKB Winter Garden FL is ``also in Creole``. Is atop closer KRJO Monroe LA, which regains at 0800 for ID as ``Real Country 99.7``, altho mwlist and NRC AM Log show KRJO as ``99.7 The Legend``. No WOKB ID heard around hourtop, still going in FF past 0805+. Unlike so many stations, WOKB has a detailed day-by-day, hour-by-hour program schedule, https://wokbradio.com/the-line-up including: ``WEDNESDAY Echo Evangelique Hosted by Pastor Sanel Petit' Frera 12:00AM - 5:00AM The best inspirational Creole programing; music, ministry, special guest and more.`` This is the only Creole block during the entire 24/7 week -- lucky me! Winter Garden is in central, not south Florida. Motto: YOUR URBAN EMPOWERMENT AND INSPIRATION STATION (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
UNIDENTIFIED. 17525, March 5 at 1623, JBA S5/S4 music and talk; could it be WMLK in the morning instead of afternoon? No, it`s now on 15150, ID in passing, only S7/9+20 in degraded propagation. Aoki lax any WMLK entries! EiBi has 15150 & 9275 only. Has WMLK deliberately stopped 17525? It`s in HFCC for B24 thru March 30, 2025; and nothing else listed on 17525 except KSDA at 00-01. So what`s this? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

WORLD OF RADIO HITLIST update March 4: Hi Glenn, my latest Hitlist update. https://www.w4uvh.net/hitlist.htm
1) Taiwan - R Taiwan Int: Updated link to latest programme schedule. The next update is scheduled for end of March. Best wishes and 73, Alan Roe
** ASCENSION. 12050, March 4 at 0744, Afro music, S6/S7, the SSOB from R. Ndarason Int`l this hour targeting Chad (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CANADA. 15034 USB, March 4 at 1550 UT, ``Trenton Military, Trenton Military, time: 1450 [sic] zulu`` and ``no report received`` from the AB/MB cities/airports. Standard derision (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA [non]. 891 & 889, March 4 at 0726, no 1 kHz spurs heard now nor for quite some time. This must be why: ``The transmitter from 890 may have moved. I just got back from Florida and 890 R.Progreso was nonexistent. Rick Kenneally, Wilton, CT``, March 4, IRCA iog. CMDZ in Chambas was rated 200 kW per WRTH 2025 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 15230, March 4 at 1551, RHC S5/S7 and just barely modulated, rather than totally dead air. Regular here pointlessly before 1600; never a show on 15140 now or later. SAWA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** MARTINIQUE [and non]. 4811.10 AM, March 4 at 0729, clean AM open carrier only, instead of the usual STANAG 4285 wideband noise from FUF, Fort-de-France, which Klingenfuß 2022 listed on 4811.8. Default to this? Normally blox Perú 4810, but not even a carrier from that heard for some time (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** MEXICO [and non]. 800, March 4 at 0750 UT, very heavy distortion still blocking KQCV OKC, i.e. XEERG, NL (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2284 monitoring: confirmed UT Tuesday March 4 at 0330 on WRMI 7780, S9+35 into S Texas SDR.
Missed checking Tue Mar 4 at 1400 on WRMI 9955; anyone hear it?
Confirmed Tuesday March 4 at 1500 on WRMI 9955, JBA S9 direct. Next:
Confirmed Tuesday March 4 at 2100 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1322.997, S9+5 into UTwente; some music CCI, and by 2334 it`s Qur`an on 1322.989, S7/S8 no doubt 50 kW from Iran Azeri service // 7230 expanded to all-night for Ramadan only. Next:
0030 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 0030 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975; 2030 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975; 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW; 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S; 1730 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160.
** U S A. 7505, March 4 at 0734, WRNO on late again but only in English gospel-huxtering, S9+35/40. Hey, loosen up, it`s Mardi-Gras! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. Re my WMLK 9275 log, Mike Barraclough, UKOGBANI replies: ``WMLK would have been playing My Country `Tis of Thee, the United States first national anthem, think it was adopted unofficially, before Star Stangled Banner, see lyrics, including from every mountainside, here. Was written to more or less the same tune as God Save the Queen.
https://mistressofmusic.wordpress.com/2014/02/11/my-country-tis-of-thee-vs-god-save-the-queen-did-we-rip-off-the-uk/
As a long time Neil Young fan I bought his 2012 Americana album, covers of well known folk songs. His version of God Save the Queen has a rarely sung verse; there have been many versions during the years and ends with the 16 strong Americana choir singing the verse from My Country `Tis of Thee with From Every Mountainside in it. Video here with appropriate footage for both. I didn't know of My Country Tis of Thee before I bought the album. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-nPsrX05Rk
In his notes on the album Neil says how he remembers singing God Save the Queen regularly at school in Canada. Mike``
Axually I knew about the US/UK duplitune, but was hoping to prompt an interesting reply such as this; tnx, Mike! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 1530 kHz, March 4 at 0757 UT, Spanish ID for 104.9, which as I explained Feb 18, q.v., is either KXTD Wagoner OK or more likely KZNX Creedmoor TX (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** VANUATU. 7260, March 4 0732, R. Vanuatu talk is S7/S8, even into my indoor-longwire, strung around the ceilings of two rooms, as necessitated by thunderstorms nearby - but far enough from tornado strixe (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
UNIDENTIFIED. 7636.0, March 4 at 0735, open carrier except for clix at rate of one per second, like a timesignal, but no minute-markers, the clix can be detected out to 7621/7647 approx. Same thing as recently heard around 9236, Feb 26 at 0737, q.v. What are these? Nothing like this on either frequency in Klingenfuß 2022 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
UNIDENTIFIED. 17665, March 4 at 1549, S5/S7 open carrier and quickly off*. Probably a test/warmup frequency, such as USAGM prior to some 1600 broadcast on another nearby frequency, which might interfere with another station/site before 1600, like Grimesland, e.g. Portuguese from 1700 on 17655 or French from 1900 on 17700. USAGM has a roster of authorized test frequencies, and wish I could see the current list. This one is a good choice for that, as absolutely nothing is scheduled on 17665 anywhen in B24 per HFCC, EiBi and Aoki (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHILE. 28485 USB, March 3 at 2135, CA3PHX making quick contacts in English or Spanish, with North, Central American stations. Had a hard time understanding the last two fonetix of his call, finally decided they were ``hotel, x-ray``. QRZ.com with lots of photos of him and his equipment: ``CA3PHX Chile flag Chile, Mauricio "Mauro" Pacheco, La Florida, santiago chile. +56984082037 Chile`` I already logged him Dec 25, 2024 on 28505 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** NORTH AMERICA. Re 11529.9, ex-Hikari FM missing lately, Ron Howard replies: ``Hi Glenn - Here is the quick reply from Ivan, who operates the station. Ron (Monterey, Calif.)
"Sorry about the blackout, the shortwave transmitter is not doing great and I took it down for investigation. There are harmonics that might interfere a little with other stations if my signal is strong. They are not bad but at this point I have figured out how to design it differently and avoid class D modulators. I am also trying to get into California right now on 1710 khz and it is difficult to run two transmitters at a time. There is some success though so I think keep a lookout on 1710, hopefully I will be able to get a signal into your area. Right now it is there but it is weak and XEPE [Tecate, Baja California, Mexico] is a problem. I plan on rebuilding the shortwave transmitter entirely or at least looking at the schematic and seeing if there are any shortcomings that need to be fixed. I am switching over to class G modulators, they require no filters and have better audio. They are slightly less efficient and require multiple power supplies or DC converters. Hopefully I can get everything working properly soon. Very Best Regards, Ivan" (via Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
