** CUBA. 5025, Oct 26 at 0633, R. Rebelde is OFF; had usually been on
lately. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba. The Other Side:

READ TODAY THE CUBA OF TOMORROW
October 25, 2023
INFLATION Diaz-Canel lies like a rug
It is totally impossible that international inflation, at almost 9%,
is responsible for the more than 1,000% inflation suffered by Cubans
since 2022. Díaz-Canel is lying.

** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, Oct 26 at 0508, another try to detect R.
Kiribati into Oahu SDR: nothing audible or visible on the H2Ofall, but
SAM claims to lock on to an 846 varying plus/minus 4 Hz. Could it
really be on but very QRP? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2214)

** OKLAHOMA. 275 MCW kHz, Oct 26 at 0331 UT, GUY, 25-watt ND beacon at

not very prominent. This is a good time to extract all the OKs from

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, Oct 26 at 0225 UT,
on the E/W longwire into NRD-545: Tnx to Canadians Richard Langley and
Peter Laws for leading me to the manual instruxions on 9/10 kHz but it
is too complicated to change its tuning steps, unlike simply on the
R75, so this is not a thorough bandscan, rather picking several likely
frequencies to punch individually 1 kHz below in USB to hear a 1 kHz
het = carrier; not in the order tuned over the next few minutes:

531-2, 576-2, 595**, 621, 639-2, 684, 711-NOT, 774, 801, 855-2, 882,
891, 999, 1107-2, 1305-2, 1422, 1539. Likely mostly Algeria, Spain.

**595 rather than 594 strongly implies the off-frequency SNRT Oujda,
MOROCCO, 50 kW per mwlist, altho supposedly off air at 01-04.

Later at 0320-0328 UT Oct 26 on the R75 with E/W Wellbrook loop: 531,
549*, 576-2, 639, 657, 684*, 693, 702, 711-NOT, 738, 747, 774-2, 837,
855*, 882, 891, 963!=3 kHz from 960 local, 999, 1026, 1044, 1089,
1107-3, 1116, 1125, 1296, 1413, 1476, 1512; 1710=TIS or pirate?
*strongest. -3 = more than 2 carriers beating.

963! most likely would be 100 kW from Tunisia per mwlist. There are
also 50 kW or more on Cyprus, Iran, Sudan, Mozambique; nothing
significant in Europe. DXers in the Atlantic Northeast were getting
plenty of TA modulation on MW (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2214)

Hauser
** CHINA. 7410, Oct 25 at 1523, JBA pop music, S9/+10; 1527 maybe
Chinese talk, continues 1530+. EiBi and Aoki show CRI Japanese via
Jinhua 831 site. Also on 7410 at this hour, Iran in Arabic via Zahedan
site. I`m checking whether anything still audible on 7 MHz band this
late. 1523 UT = 0851 LMT, and today`s Enid sunrise was 1248 UT, some
2.5 hours earlier. No sign of RNZP on 7440 now, to be 7390 from Oct
29. Not quite the OSOB: see 7300 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. 7300, Oct 25 at 1525, JBA music and talk at S4/S6, past
1530+. Aoki & EiBi show both in Mandarin, R. Taiwan Int`l and CNR1,
i.e. jamming. Only broadcast signal still audible this late on 7 MHz
band except 7410, q.v. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KOREA NORTH [and non]. 11985, Oct 25 at 1516, humroar obscuring
talk and wobbling frequency, S6/S7. Scheduled is RFA Korean via SAIPAN
at 15-19, per Aoki & EiBi, neither shown as jammed as this seems to be
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 15520, Wed Oct 25 at 2200, token English from SNR is
slightly better here off the back to ME, S9+20/30 vs 17855 direct to N
America, S9+10/20. Begins with Amy Egan giving the new sked for
``winter`` from Oct 29, broadly but no details about English, who
cares? which will surely become M/W/F only at 2300-2330. Notably she
cites the African frequency as 17755, rather than 17775 which has been
widely publicized by AER sourced to REE itself; which is wrong? HFCC
agrees it`s 17755. It also includes a number of frequencies which are
never mentioned, must be alternates but not labeled as such woodenly:
21620, 15500, 15390, 15110, 11940. The ``new`` HFCC website is now
intercepted by a warning as certificate has expired as of today:
https://new.hfcc.org/data/schedbybrc.php?seas=B23&broadc=REE
2203 news; following feature is interview about the first private
rocket launch from Spain (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TAIWAN. 9685, Oct 25 at 1520, choral harmony, gospel? S3/S6. No,
Aoki shows Nippon no Kaze in Korean via Paochung at 1500-1559 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785, Oct 25 at 2200, VOT not off the air today.
Something`s not always erroneous at Emirler; VG S9+20/30 direct. After
news, 2209 `Review of the Turkish Press`, something about UN Day. 2211
new promo marking the 100th anniversary of the Turkish Republic, which
will be Oct 29. 2212 `Whipping Piles` about the gig economy for jobs.
2240 outro `Feeling Supreme/The Healing Spring`, something about
honey. 2250 100th anniversary promo again; after s/off, 6 notes of IS
to chopoff at 2255*, no finesse, thus fails to emit any extra German
at 2300 from feed (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U K [non]. 9440, Oct 25 at 0628, French S7/S9 until 0629*; back on
a few seconds later slightly weaker S5/S8 at *0629.4 in unID language.
Per EiBi this is BBC in French via VATICAN, then Hausa via ASCENSION.
There is another of the latter preceding at 0529-0600. I can never
recognize Hausa; are there any keywords like in IDs or other clues we
can use? I don`t know if they axually utter this, but ``this is the
BBC`` per Google translate becomes: ``wannan shine BBC" (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2213 monitoring: ``From: Richard

Confirmed Tuesday October 24 at 2330 on WRMI 9395, S9/+10 into UTwente

** U S A. 9475, Oct 25 at 1925, WTWW reactivated day frequency for
brief test, notified by George McClintock. It`s VG here as expected,
S9+40 with gospel music and Biermann`s IDs as ``Ancient Word Radio on
5085``, and again at 1934, cut off at 1938*. George says will
officially start tomorrow at 3-5 pm CT, then change to 5085; i.e.
20-22 UT and 22+ onwards until Oct 29 when CDT becomes CST, so
presumably UT will then be 21/23 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, Oct 25 at 0653:
684, 711*strongest so WESTERN SAHARA is back on; 774, 837, 855 kHz.
The others likely SPAIN (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1210 kHz, Oct 25 at 0701 UT, CBS News with audio
dropouts every second or two; figured it would be WPHT Philadelphia,
but KGYN Guymon OK is also with CBS per NRC AM Log. KGYN tends do
dominate here despite supposedly nulling toward WPHT (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 6833-LSB, Oct 25 at 0637, same kind of tones we have

Kiribati direct, and no more than an uncertain trace sometimes at Oahu
SDR: ``Glenn - Here at Asilomar State Beach, have also noted no signal
at all recently on 846 kHz. Conditions have been fairly good, as on
Oct 22 (Sunday), actually had some rare audio on 1017 kHz, perhaps
from Tonga, at 0701 UT, with religious singing; normally I only hear
with a carrier. Ron (California)`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785, Oct 24 at 2201, VOT English not off the air,
S9+20/30 direct; 2220 `Weekly Commentary` read by badax, penned by
Miss something with degrees including Oxford about China`s economy
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Also confirmed UT Tuesday October 24 at 0336 the 0330 on WRMI 7780,
JBA direct, but at 0349 S8/9+5, sufficient into Louisiana SDR.

Also confirmed Tuesday October 24 at 1310 the 1300 on WRMI 9955, fair,
as I happened to awaken during a local power outage. Next:

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic just-barely-audible MW carrier search,
October 24 at 0330-0335 on the E/W loop: 576, 612, 621, 639, 774-2,
855*strongest, 891?, 999, 1044, 1098, 1125, 1296, 1305, 1413 kHz.
Notably missing: 711 from WESTERN SAHARA occupied by Morocco.
Correlating with this posted at 0711 UT Oct 24:

``[bdxc-news] 711 kHz Morocco --- 711 kHz SNRT Laayoune Morocco has
been putting a good signal into Playa Blanca Lanzarote but with very
poor modulation. It normally makes it very difficult for me to receive
WOR New York 710 kHz. This morning 711 kHz noted off, maybe for
maintenance and excellent reception of WOR from 06.30 as I type at
07.10 just starting to fade but still audible. 73 John Hoad, Elad
FDM-DUOr (Stand Alone) + Wellbrook ALA1530LNP, Playa Blanca, Lanzarote

UNIDENTIFIED. [WOR] ``7830 oddity -- Check 7830 and what do you make
of those musical? tonebursts echoing? As I have reported before, on
now at 0349 and probably much longer span - Glenn,`` Oct 24 on the WOR
iog; and I recorded a brief sample maybe to include in next WOR. Still
on at 0658 check. Replies:

``Re: [WOR] 7830 oddity --- I think it is 7828 USB, the audio is
properly centered then. There are odd short breaks in the strange echo
but seemingly random. Quite strong here, maybe a KIWI TDOA will shed
some info. MARS stations just came on 7831 USB at 0400 UT. Don Moman,
AB, VE6JY``

``Don, did a single quick TDoA at 0509 and I get western Alabama:
32.90, -87.90. Your Kiwis were all occupied, and the Prince George one
is always busy. 73, Walt Salmaniw, BC``

``I checked at 10 UTC (10/24), and found it was much stronger and
steadier here on 5714 kHz than 6830 kHz and 7830 kHz, so a location
fairly close in to North Carolina such as Alabama at around 500 miles
or so would makes sense since the skip distance on those upper
frequencies can get quite long in the fall heading towards winter.
However, I checked back 19 minutes later at 1030 UTC and it was much
stronger on 7830 kHz than before and stronger than it was earlier on
5714 kHz, so I'm not sure. The transmission source may be varying
power levels and antenna target locations. I was no longer hearing it
on 5714 kHz and 6830 kHz at 1030 UTC so I couldn't compare against
those frequencies at that time. It was still on 7830 kHz and and not
audible here on 6830 kHz and 5714 kHz at 1108 UTC.

Maybe it's WN2XKQ -

https://apps.fcc.gov/oetcf/els/reports/442_Print.cfm?mode=initial&application_seq=121165&license_seq=122901
The application does include a frequency range 7810 - 7850 kHz for
"Market trials to evaluate the commercial feasibility of the use of
this equipment and technology to facilitate financial trading services
and markets in the HF band" -
https://fccid.report/els/0127-ex-cn-2023/
The initial filing does mention directional antennas being used on
7810 kHz - 7850 kHz with power levels of 3 kw - 24 kw. Doug White
KA5ETS, Carrboro NC``

Re: [WOR] 7830 oddity [posted a few minutes later at 1127 UT Oct 24:]
```The current version of the filing shows a station location in
Note: I, gh, have not heard nor tried to hear this on any of the other
frequencies mentioned than 7830/7828. Earlier discussion from Oct *20*
on the WOR iog:
``I heard something similar around 7830 kHz at 0517 UTC. It stopped at
0534 UTC. Very strong signal here in southern Ontario. I did a quick
check of online SDRs and it was audible at a good level right from the
west coast to the east coast. I got the impression it sounded like a
very distorted radiofax signal with a lot of echo. John VE3CXB
Hudak``
``It is on 6830 KHz again today (10/20). I first checked for it around
0250 UTC and found it on 6830 KHz with an S9+10 signal, then it
stopped at 0301 UTC, but started again at 0304 UTC. I checked 7830 KHz
at 0335 UTC and 5714 at 0337 UTC and did find it there too. It isn't
on 6945 KHz unlike on 10/18 when it was. It is still on as of 0415 UTC
today. Maybe it's WM2XZV or another HF trader with a new modulation
scheme. Doug White KA5ETS, Carrboro, NC`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
28, everything one UT hour later and on different frequencies:
including 2300 for WEu and us beyond 7220, to Japan 9620. Full English
sked: https://www.rri.ro/en_gb/frecvente-259
Explicitly for NAm: 2130-2200 9500, 0100-0200 7325, 0400-0500 9510
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** SPAIN. 17855, Monday October 23 at 2200, token English from SNR
starts by giving B23 schedule in generalities of mostly Spanish,
including 9690, which no doubt will include at 2300 instead, English
to us, Amy and also the voice of Justin Coe which has not been heard
otherwise for several weeks; VG S9+15/20 direct. After news, 2210
feature is interview with a director of `Ñ`, the notable 15th
anniversary of a literary festival on Oct 14-15, weekend following
Spain`s national day (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** TASMANIA [non]. 9955, Sunday Oct 22 at 2232, ``Waltzing Matilda``,
2234 Hobart Radio International, with ``news`` via WRMI as sked (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
** TURKEY. 11785, Oct 22 at 2224 check, VOT English not off the air,
S9+20 direct but plenty of ACI.
11785, Oct 23 at 2200 and later chex, direct nor via UTwente, VOT
English not on the air. Nor on 9875, the 2030-2130 English channel
sometimes staying past 2200 unmoved. UTwente sporadically lox onto an
inaudible at 9875.003, else? Something`s always erroneous at Emirler.
From B23, Oct 29, new sked will be 2300 on 5960; so if that be
missing, check 9610 for the 2030-2130 channel possibly extended by
dozers (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A [and non]. 28300 CW, Oct 22 at 2236, beacon K6FRC, regular
strong signal, readable OK tuned to 28299-USB, but on 28300 itself is
a Brazuguese phone on USB; not respecting the ``beacon band``, which I
suppose has no official/legal status (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2213 monitoring: confirmed Sunday
October 22 at 2000 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1323 kHz only, still not
908 or 207; S9+17 into nearby Noale SDR, Qur`anRM barely audible under
from Iran, but unlike yesterday, no Hungarian heard from Romania. Also
confirmed at same time on WRN Europe webcast, and on WRMI
webcast-only.
Also confirmed UT Monday October 23 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, poor but
sufficient into Durango2 SDR Mexico. But first 14 seconds totally
blocked by utenoiseblast.
Also confirmed UT Monday October 23 at 0300 promptly on Area 51
webcast; WBCQ frequency not measured until 0344, 6160 -68v Hz =
6159.932 into NH SDR during HRI? Next:
0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to SW
1300 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?]
2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
** VANUATU. 9960, Oct 23 at 0634, R. Vanuatu still here, S4/S5 with
drumming which often follows and precedes 0630 PSAs (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)
UNIDENTIFIED. 7830, Oct 23 at 0646, S9 extremely distorted music bits
cutting on and off rapidly, as if spurious from a broadcast. Same as
48 hours ago. Wonder if it could be WRNO way out of whack, missing
from 7505 lately (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
This report dispatched at 0007 UT October 24
