Glenn Hauser logs February 18-19-20, 2024 |
|
Tuesday, February 20 2024
** CANADA. 28170 CW, Feb 19 at 2311, VVV DE VA3XCD/B and repeated. WI5V list: ``28.1700 VA3XCD YARKER, ONTARIO, CANADA 2W DIPOLE 20 APR 2003``. QRZ.com: ``VA3XCD Canada flag Canada, William G Pooley, 400 DEWEY ROAD, RR3, YARKER, ON K0K 3N0, Canada`` but no further info. Yarker is NW of Kingston, NE of Greater Napanee (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 5025, Feb 19 at 0815, S9+25 of dead air in Spanish from R. Rebelde. If you`re running the transmitter, why not modulate it, duh? Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15140, Feb 19 at 2040, RHC English not off the air, lo-fi into Maryland SDR. Waterfall shows very small modulation line, with amorphous blobs every kHz or so out to at least plus/minus 5 but by 2045 the pattern changes to diagonal. Something`s always wrong at RHC. The Other Side: ``READ TODAY THE CUBA OF TOMORROW February 13, 2024 PUBLIC HEALTH Organ transplants in Cuba, more evidence of the decline of the 'medical powerhouse' -- Children bear the brunt as Cuba's Public Health system crumbles, as demonstrated by high-profile cases like that of Amanda Lemus Ortiz. ÁNGELES ROSAS | Madrid...`` https://diariodecuba.com/cuba/1707757376_52806.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** FRANCE. 21610-21615-21620, Feb 19 at 1652, DRM noise direct, S9+15. 1742 into Maryland SDR, S9 in French talk, 1800 RFI ID and continues past 1830, off before next check 1936; labeled TDF with SNR of 22.8 db, lofi 8.08 kbps; ``Diffusion DRM assurée par l`opérateur TDF`` Andy Reid, Ont, heard this as long ago as Feb 11 at 1553 and ``mucking up`` like jamming BBC on 21630, which is Ascension from 1600. No problem here to 21630. Not in current HFCC, EiBi or Aoki, but in DRMrx at 11-12 only from TDF, no further details. In BC-DX, Wolfgang Bueschel presents a tentative HFCC A24 DRM TEST sked from TDF ISS, on 28 frequencies, but only 21755 on 13m. Segments are all for only 30 or 60 minutes (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KOREA NORTH [and non]. 7580, Feb 19 at 0806, JBA music and talk; nothing in HFCC but EiBi & Aoki show VOK in Japanese at 07-13 & 21-24, altho I had not noticed before 08. BTW, 7570 WRMI is OFF now tho available all-night (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 27185 AM, Feb 19 at 1648 check, CB relay of K288FX 105.5 is not on air now from Enid; nor after 2300 (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** SPAIN. 9690, Mon Feb 19 at 2300, token English from SNR, preview and news; 2308 about whether mobile phones should be banned from schools; 2323 multi-lingual ID montage not heard before, then fill with a song from 1996 by a rock group evidently influenced by a visit to Cuba, ``La Placa`` = license plate? Or more likely, ``Flaca`` = the skinny girl (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960+, Feb 18 at 2300, VOT English not off the air, VG into UTwente, but no time to listen now, rather UBMP; so I catch the last repeat of the `Sunday` program: 6125.005, UT Monday Feb 19 at 0400, VOT English, VG S9/+15 into Maryland SDR, no need for UTwente. S/on and news voiced by the badax as I zone out. 0414 repeat the `Weekly Analysis` about Turco/Egypto relations. I keep waiting for the `Letterbox` but almost give up: 0419 ``with-you-every-hour`` promo. 0423 song. 0427 multi-lingual ID filler reel. 0429 music. 0434 *finally* `Letterbox` starts some 17 minutes later than before. Usual host, very informal, acknowledging almost nothing but reception reports wanting QSLs, from: India and wants lots of other promo goodies, sorry; Russia, none other than Anatoly Klepov, Moscow, editor of RUS`-DX; someone from Young Stars Radio Club, Hyderabad, India; Konstantin Barsenkov, St Pete, Russia, also in RUS`-DX; Belgium; Andy from UK, no postal address; Tamil Nadu with WRDay greetings; Germany; Gavin Waters, Australia advising of overmodistortion; Canada; Tarek Zeidan, Egypt. Nice to hear several familiar names from our contributors. VOT guy gives their postal address but never spells Yenisehir as if every new, or old, listener recognize it! Axually it`s Yenişehir with a cedilla under the S which make it sh-sounding, name of a municipality of Ankara. And both i`s are dotted! You will be wasting your time looking for a postal address or much of anything about this SHORTWAVE station at the TRT website, sidetracking into TRT WORLD, i.e. video. BTW the PO Box number is 333 as announced, not merely 33 as in WRTH 2024, where Y--- is also cedillaless. Back to the rest of the broadcast. LBox ends at 0446, more music fill; 0453 s/off for the 1330 broadcast only: something`s always awry at Ankara; 0454 IS; 0456 restart IS but chopoff at 0457* before German or any other language IDs; expecting Malay which starts elsewhere at 0500; or Turkish (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960.005, Feb 19 at 2310, JBA direct vs HNL, VOT not off the air; 2349 into UTwente when measured, S9+40/45 with ``ABYS`` promo between musix. 2354 ``WYEH`` promo and s/off as if the 1330 on 13635. 2355 IS. 2356 restart IS with German IDs to 2357*. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler. BTW, 5960 occasionally prolonged another hour for German, and rarely another2 hour from 0100 in Portuguese, a language not on the original B23 schedule at all but evidently in the program feed. But now it`s official: via Manuel Méndez, Célio Romais in Brasil says it`s heard at 0100 Feb 18 on 7280 and that frequency is announced (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2230 monitoring: confirmed Sunday February 18 at 2100 on IRRS via AM Italia, 1322.996 kHz, S9+5 into UTwente across Europe with SAH of about 3 Hz, perhaps from a tiny UK station; via nearby Noale, Italy SDR on 1322.998, VG S9+15/20, no SAH or other QRM. Also confirmed Sunday February 18 at 2256 the 2230 on SW Radio, Germany, 3975.001, S9+5/10 into UTwente. Also confirmed UT Monday February 19 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S9/+10 but high noise level into Durango2 SDR. I hope the 7780 airings are better somewhere altho aimed SW from FL. Also confirmed UT Monday February 19 at 0400 on Area 51 [sic] via WBCQ 6159.935, S6/S7 into Maryland SDR. Also confirmed Monday February 19 at 2030 on SW Radio, Germany, 3975.002, S9/+10 into UTwente. Next: 0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to SW 1400 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?] 0030 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 1200 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB or 3210-USB 1230 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB or 3210-USB [previous #2229][SW suspended but still streamed?] 1500 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [unsked but reconfirmed every 2024 week] 2030 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW, 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S 0230 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 1730 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 3975 As noncommercial services, financial support appreciated. Thanks this week to Bob Zerilli, Hazlet NJ, for a contribution via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com - in US funds but not necessarily, and says, ``Thanks for your SWL dedication. I`m a longtime SWL and appreciate you being out there`` One may also contribute via MO or check on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. (7490), Sunday Feb 18 at 2300, WBCQ webcasting in mono `Uncle Bill`s Melting Pot`, now monthly on third-Sundays, first half interviewing and not enough music by a woman from India; second half as promised, tribute to Peter Schickele who died recently: UB picked some very obscure PDQ Bach stuff, partly in German, which I don`t recall ever hearing on `Schickele Mix`; while some more accessible PDQ Bach bits would have encouraged a wider audience (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 12050, Feb 19 at 1655, hymn in Spanish, S8/S9 so WEWN is not off the air as it was missing Feb 17 at 1946 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** YEMEN [non]. 11820, Feb 19 at 1944 horrible buzz into Maryland SDR. 11810 weaker but clear BBC English via UAE. 11860 only huge R Martí, should be too close in skip zone to DC? At 1955, Look at the waterfall! Evenly spaced carriers about every 115 Hz apart 11817-11823. No program audio. This is presumably ex-11860 Sa`udi transmitter carrying Republic of Yemen Radio, which was just as defective on original frequency. At least it no longer confront Cuban jamming and RM. At 2318 check direct, still humroar. Don Moman, Alberta, replied earlier: ``it's not centered on 11820. If you treat it as a USB signal, then it is closer to 11819 and most of the stronger hum bars are in the typical USB voice range. There are MANY 120 Hz spaced harmonics making up the buzz/hum. This would imply a country that uses 60 Hz power or a 60 Hz generator.`` Of course, we know that unusually for the ME, Sa`udi Arabia is on 60, and not Yemen or any other country on or off the Peninsula: 50. See: https://www.generatorsource.com/Voltages_and_Hz_by_Country.aspx S.A. must be a victim of American influence (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, not exhaustive but checking likely spots mostly below 1220, Feb 20 at 0223-0231: 711, 774-2, 855-2, 891, 909, 999, 1044, 1053 -- mostly Western Sahara, Spain or UK but also: 1431! kHz. Per mwlist, 1431 has got to be the 600 kW VOA Djibouti, or one of two 1-watt UK hospital stations; or something undetailed in Greece. VOA sked 1530-0330. Everyone in NAm without a local on 1430 can listen for the 1431 het. Woe betide DXers in those hospitals blocking VOA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 15022.4 CW, Feb 19 at 2315, very slow Morse code, mostly numbers, occasional letters. Searching UDXF iog on that exact frequency gets a 2012y report but source and type of transmission not shown: ``Most (maybe all) transmissions are now from Isabela, Puerto Rico and possibly Davidsonville, MD too`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0301 UT February 20

** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Feb 18 until 0100*, like last week, LRA36 goes off right on time after the Sat 2300+ broadcast, rechecking Argentine remote; see previous report (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 6000 & 6100, Sun Feb 18 at 0757, no RHC here nor found anywhere else, as it`s about time for weekly Esperanto, which did appear last week on 6000 instead of nominal 6100. Next broadcast at 1600: audible on 11760, S9/+20 but noisy, s/on claiming 0800 on 6100, 1600 on 11760. 15140 had also secretly applied but is off as usual altho as previously logged was active at night. At 1534, Ron Trotto, IL, was hearing RHC Spanish on 15005, but not when I checked after 1600. Something`s always wrong at RHC. Someone reported that a B23 schedule has finally appeared on website, now that season is almost over, but I can`t get beyond the homepage / portada, http://www.radiohc.cu where the dropdown DE INTERES stalls on two different browsers. However the NOSOTROS link worx going to RHC history and from bottom of that page we get to B23: https://www.radiohc.cu/de-interes/frecuencias BUT this is a very reduced Spanish-only including imaginary transmissions: 9710 at 22-05; 11850 at 22-06; 15230 at 00-06. We can also get indirectly to the English pages including https://www.radiohc.cu/en/de-interes/frecuencias for B23 showing nothing but: San Francisco 6100 05-07 = imaginary; Chicago 15140 20-21 = usually missing; Washington 6000 01-07 at least partially usually with badmod. The Esperanto B23 shows Sunday 0800 & 1600 only, altho third time continues to be announced (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 27185 AM, Feb 18 at 1552 UT, again/still today, local Enid CBer relaying praise music from matching 105.5, K288FX, ``K-Love``. This of course amounts to a pirate broadcast. Of course there is a huge pileup on this major CB channel, but I wonder if anyone can make out this music at skip distances (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2230 monitoring: confirmed UT Sunday February 18 at 0100 on WRMI 9955, S5/S7 into Brasil SDR. Also confirmed UT Sunday February 18 at 0444 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, S9+22 into nearby SDR about 3 minutes into so nominal 0415v started late about 0441. Again missed checking Sun Feb 18 at 1130 on WRMI 9955, zzzz; anyone hear it? Next: 2100 UT Sunday IRRS 1323-Italy 2230 UT Sunday SW Radio, Germany 3975 0030 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to SW 0400vUT Monday WBCQ Area 51 6160v to WSW 0930 UT Monday SW Radio, Germany 6160 2030 UT Monday SW Radio, Germany 3975 0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to SW 1400 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?] 0030 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 1200 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB or 3210-USB 1230 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB or 3210-USB [previous #2229][SW suspended but still streamed?] 1500 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [unsked but reconfirmed every 2024 week] 2030 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW, 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S 0230 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 1730 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 3975 As noncommercial services, financial support appreciated. ** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Feb 17 at 2300 and earlier, no advance publicity about an LRA36 broadcast this Saturday, but I check anyway. Argentine remotes are tied up but I get into a Brazilian, indeed no signal past 2300. But I must have squelched too much, since de-squelched at 2315, there it is in Spanish vs lots of lightning static - yet Blitzortung shows a blank continent except for one tiny spot in the western Amazon and another south of Panamá. 2318 into music, but soon more talk. Argentine remote then with less lightning but more line noise static. Still going past 2400. Walt Salmaniw was getting it direct in BC measured down to 15475.975 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. ``Daytime`` RHC frequency 15140 still on at 0437 Feb 17, S8/9+5 into KFS ND with jazz, // 11760, 0438 Spanish announcement. SAWA. 0447 music stops abruptly, and carrier off a few sex later. Tnx to this tip two sesquihours earlier from BC on the WOR iog: ``RHC is coming in here on the west coast of Canada on 15140 at 0130 UT in Spanish with a very good signal, almost too good to be them! They are airing a news show with stories about Chile and North Korea. Something must be wrong at Radio Cuba -- audio is too good to be them. Tony Pavick`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** GUYANA [and non]. 24945 USB, Feb 17 at 1937, XE1TD uttering his call from time to time, doesn`t say what for! Amid pileup. Must be something important just below, like a DXpedition. Yes, per dxheat.com that would be 8R7X in Guyana, and I do have a JBA signal on 24940. QRZ.com shows the DXp dates are Feb 14-24. As for XE1TD: ``XE1TD Mexico flag Mexico, CLUB DE RADIO EXPERIMENTADORES DE OCCIDENTE, Guadalajara, Jalisco`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6960 AM, UT Sat Feb 17 at 0240, pirate music S9+10 vs HLNL S8/S9 but not by enough. I bet it`s Ball Smacker Radio, traditional Friday night airing. Yup: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,125713.0.html An hour earlier I was not hearing any pirate on the band (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 27185 AM, Feb 17 at 1930 UT, praise music, and 1932 ``another positive song will change your day``: again some local Enid CBer relaying an FM station, but I don`t have an FM radio handy to make a match. Steady S9+20 generally atop the pileup except for one strong interruptor. Still going at 2031 when I do make a match on the ATS909 tuned to 105.5 and the D-808 on 27185. I.e., relaying K288FX which relays KYLV 88.9 on the so-called `K-Love` network (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960.005, Feb 17 at 2300, VOT English not off the air, S9+40/50 into UTwente, s/on as the 1330 broadcast for Feb 17, news. 2310 `The Energy Agenda` about The Sun and what Turkey is spending. [Then checking LRA36]. After 2330 mostly music including unusual hard rock until 2337 switch to a softer pop tune. 2353 s/off, 2354 IS. CCCCCCI audible during pause, 2356 restart IS but chopoff before German IDs can begin, totally uncovering XJRTV, std denunciations (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 8992 et al., re Skyking messages among EAMs, not heard in years: ``USA/HFGCS I haven't heard a Sky King message since Kirby Grant passed away (Chuck Albertson, Seattle, Wash.)`` https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirby_Grant ``Kirby Grant Movie actor --- born Kirby Grant Hoon Jr., was a long-time B movie and television actor, mostly remembered for having played the title role in the Western-themed adventure television series Sky King. Between 1949 and 1954, Grant starred in 10 Mounted-Police adventures, usually in the role of Corporal Rod Webb. Wikipedia Born: November 24, 1911, Butte, MT Died: October 30, 1985 (age 73 years), Brevard County, FL`` ``Kirby Grant (1911-1985) IMDb -- Kirby Grant was killed in a road accident on Wednesday 30 October 1985 while on his way to watch the launch of the Space Shuttle Challenger at Cape Canaveral... He was to have been honored by the astronauts for encouraging aviation and space flight`` -- were the messages named in his honor? (via Glenn Hauser, WOR) ** U S A. 28202 CW, Feb 17 at 1935, EEEEEEEEEE DE WA7JYK/B repeated twice and then gridspot. WI5V roster shows: ``28.2020 WA7JYK C Joseph, Oregon 10w 43'vertical formerly WB7EUX. 23 JUL 2023`` S9 vs HLNL, plus many more above this spot. Is the number of dits significant? Some beacons do this, in this case, ten. QRZ.com: ``WA7JYK USA flag USA, TOM S BINGHAM, 406 E Third St, PO BOX 368, JOSEPH, OR 97846, USA -- Total spot count for Fri Feb 16, 2024: 48. WORLD OF RADIO 2230 monitoring: confirmed UT Saturday February 17 at 0130 on WRMI 5850, S9+25 exceeding HLNL but not enough to blot it. Also confirmed Saturday February 17 at 1539 the 1530 on SW Radio, Germany, 6160.001, S9/+10 into UTwente but with considerable ACI splash from 6165 in Turkish, i.e. CRI via Urumqi, East Turkistan, azimuth 270 degrees due west. Also confirmed Saturday February 17 at 1700 on WRN North America webcast; following very brief headlines from ``Feature Story News, Austin, Texas`` yet a British accent. Also confirmed Saturday February 17 at 1833 the 1830 on SW Radio, Germany, 3975.002, S9+5 into UTwente. Also confirmed Saturday February 17 after 2030 on WRN N America webcast and on WRMI webcast-only. Also confirmed Saturday February 17 starting at 2038 the 2030v on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, VG S9+20 into nearby SDR. I`m a longtime SWL and appreciate you being out there`` One may also contribute via MO or check on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. Pre- `AAAWWW` check of WBCQs, UT Sat Feb 17 from 0039 into Maryland SDR, accurately calibrated: 3265 OFF. 5130.264 ATATT S7/S5. 6159.932 TOMBS S6/S4. 7489.960 FKB S9+5/15. 9330.000 WLCR PP S9+15/20. After pause at 0100, 7490 announced, following AAAWWW was originally broadcast Friday January 12, 2024. Never mind (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [non]. 12050, Feb 17 at 1946, JBA carrier, surely not WEWN Spanish which normally has a good signal especially when 12160 WWCR achieves S9+10/30. WEWN must be OFF! Rather, 12050 be R. Ndarason Intl, targeting CHAD, sked 18-19 via Woofferton and 19-20 via ASCENSION. Incredible how they are both cool with `sharing` 12050 when there are plenty of unoccupied channels. BTW I think 15610 WEWN English has been off again for some time after former start 1900 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, Feb 17 from 0247, not a full bandscan but checking likely spots on the NRD 545 tuning USB 1 kHz down from: 1089, 1053, 1044, 855-2, 774, 693 - likely mostly SPAIN or UK (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0016 UT February 18

** SPAIN. 9690, Fri Feb 16 at 2310, token English from SNR, VG S9+30/40 into Maryland SDR. Feature is interview about/with flamenco guitarist (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** TURKEY [and non]. 9610.004, Fri Feb 16 at 2221 I try the 2130+ English broadcast, S9/+15 into UTwente, not the bigsig it gets after 2300 on 5960 since 9610 is aimed away toward S Asia; but with heavy SAH of 6 or 7 Hz - I estimate that range by counting rapidly 1-2-3-4-5-6-7 over and over as I watch the seconds tick by on my watch. This must come from CNR8 Mongolian program via Beijing site, nothing else now scheduled. S/off of English is underway, seems like long version with all-wrong times, but hard to copy. 2226 IS is still running now with IDs in Italian, ``Qui la Voce della Turchia`` -- or are they saying ``Tuerkiye``? They sound so much alike. 2230 continues Italian, but hard to copy with almost equal signal from China, both mostly music. Like German after 0000 and Portuguese after 0100 on 5960, Italian at 2230 is mistaken overrun, not on B23 schedule where the only Italian is supposed to be at 0930! Same SAH situation at 2300 when I expect English to overrun on 9610 instead of 5960, but switching to 5960 I do find it on with VG S9+30/40 signal into UTwente opening English; retune immediately back to 9610, now I hear CNR8 only, so TRT must have QSYed at the same time I did. Or on this date not really same Emirler transmitter, where something is always erroneous. As for the 5960.005 broadcast, I have to split time with SPAIN and WOR/WRMI check. 2320 `WYEH` promo, music. 2324 `Weekly Analysis` on relations with Egypt improving since the coup there in 2013y. Erdogan and large delegation now visiting Cairo. I cannot catch the name of the writer even tho it`s not the badax reading it. 2329 `WYEH` promo again, music. 2333 `Folk/Fairy Tales` about the sister of seven brothers. 2339 music. 2343 `ABYS` promo, music. 2346 `WYEH` promo yet again, what crutches, music. 2351 `ABYS` again and s/off the version with all times wrong in local yet called UTC; something`s always awry at Ankara. Not noted IS and cutoff time, but not on after 0000, just East Turkistan, standard denunciations (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. ** CUBA. 5025, Feb 15 at 0732, R. Rebelde programming presumed, back on air at S9+40/45, VG (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2230)
** INTERNATIONAL WATERS [non?]. Re 4251, NJDM: ``Hi Glenn, A useful url for locating marine traffic: US Navy Warships Tracker (marinevesseltraffic.com) https://www.marinevesseltraffic.com/navy-ships And for the ship in question: USS Jason Dunham (DDG-109) NATO WARSHIP Current Position ( - DUAL TRACKING - ) | Marine Vessel Traffic https://www.marinevesseltraffic.com/vessels/USS-Jason-Dunham-(DDG-109)/CURRENT-POSITION/1/366997034 David Ross`` -- That`s helpful; shouldn`t such info be classified? Anyhow as of Feb 14, NJDM is right near Jaxonvil FL (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2230) ** U S A. 8992 USB, Feb 15 at 1605, ``This is Raindrop`` and fonetix: TDVUC7 repeated, then alfanumeric ``message follows`` starting with those same 7. No echo but always background noise. I assume the same ID is never used more than once? Feb CIDX Messenger Utility column by Gilles Letourneau informs: ``HF Global Command (HFGCS) 4724, 8992, 11175 and 15016 kHz USB --- One common use for the HFGCS is to place telephone calls from the aircraft in flight [...] The HFGCS also carries Emergency Action Messages (EAMs). In addition to EAMs, the HFGCS carries a few other types of messages. A higher priority code for orders is a Skyking Message, which is a time sensitive message for orders that need immediate attention. Force Direction Messages (FDM's) are also sent through the HFGCS, although it is impossible to tell whether the message is an FDM or just another EAM being read. Although transmissions are often single sideband (SSB), the use of the ALE transmission mode is more and more common. HFGCS complements the use of satellite communications between aircraft and ground stations. If you hear echo on the frequency you’re listening to, it is due to the signal often being transmitted over several stations at the same time.`` I have not happened upon a Skyking Message in many years (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non].
