Glenn Hauser logs May 18-19-20, 2025  View Printable Version
Tuesday, May 20 2025

Logs
** CUBA. 5025, May 20 at 0158, R. Rebelde is off; had been fairly
reliable lately but weaker. Something`s wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MOLDOVA. 13730.011+, May 19 at 1551, Russian S9+25/35 into UTwente;
5+1 timesignal to 1600, silence and off some seconds later. Another
test of Vesti FM from Grigoriopol` site in Russian-occupied Moldova,
a.k.a. Pridnestrovye/Transnistria. Also heard widely in N America, tnx
to Alexander Miatlikov, Ukraine tip:

``Another round of SW tests from Grigoriopol-Mayak tx site in
Moldova/Transnistria towards the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug in the Far
East.

May 19 on 13730 kHz
10.00-11.00 UTC
15.00-16.00 UTC
19.00-20.00 UTC

May 20 on 15175 kHz
11.00-12.00 UTC
16.00-17.00 UTC
20.00-21.00 UTC

May 21 on 17505 kHz
10.00-11.00 UTC
15.00-16.00 UTC
19.00-20.00 UTC

300 kW, 16 degrees
https://t.me/s/powerfulradio/290

P.S. Last time, this source also claimed the power was 300 kW, while a
worker of that tx site wrote on radioscanner.ru/forum that it was 500
kW. Maybe it's 500 kW now too`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NEW ZEALAND. 13690, May 19 at 0618, RNZP only here, not also on
11725 as was the case last night at 0648. Sked calls for 13690 only
until 0758, then 11725 plus 9700 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. 99.7, May 19 at 2220 UT, ``99-7 The Wolf`` ID,
i.e. KWFF. This frequency was hijacked from Enid to Mustang, SW of
OKC, by previous owner, then KXLS calls applied to 95.7 Lahoma
instead. But we still have `The Wolf` on 106.3, which is KWOF Waukomis
= Enid market. Both country format. How original! WTFDA FMDB lists 117
Wolfs in USA, and one Canadian, 104.9 CFWF-FM Regina, predominantly
country but scattering of rockishes. I fail to appreciate how branding
radio stations The Wolf accomplish anything positive (Glenn Hauser,
Enid, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 102.7, May 19 at 1938 UT, KJYO is on the air unlike
yesterday, but seems a bit weaker than other OKCs (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 105.3, May 19 at 1940 UT into caradio, enough signal to
be sure it`s MONO, not $ tereo, on the ``Infinity Sports Network``, ads
including one for Juneteenth with a (405) area code, so it`s not KFBZ
In Kansas, but per WTFDA FM Database, KINB, Kingfisher OK, 0.93/0.93
kW, 254.0 m with CBS Sports Radio - different than Infinity? Was
rebranded on April 15, 2024 per Wikipedia. So add one more to the MONO
survey. I suppose this little station tries to reach part of the OKC
Metro. Site is halfway between Kingfisher and Piedmont, i.e. further
from Enid, and circular prime contour only reaches NW OKC, not quite
to Lake Hefner. I wonder why they could not go to higher power (Glenn
Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. Tornado season means OKC TV stations blow away a lot of
network programming, for often continuous storm coverage. May 19 at
2233 UT, KFOR `4` RF 27 did join NBC Afternoonly News a bit late;
while KWTV `9`, RF 25 shunted CBS Afternoon News to its substation
KSBI `52` RF 23 Cable 16. KOCO ABC and KOKH Fox also have substations
but I`ve yet to find them shunting major network programming to any of
those. KFOR could also do that, to KAUT. Or extremely important
preëmpted shows can be played in the nightmiddle for recording, such
as Jeopardy on KFOR (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 15500, 17715, 15520, 15390, Mon May 19 at 2200, token
English from SNR nominal direct on all four in order of decreasing
strength, and precious little else from Europe on these bands. Preview
topix: Olive Oil Council meeting in Madrid; Eurovision Song Contest
won by Austria (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 9875.005+, Sunday May 18 at 2046, VOT English
backwards into UTwente, S9+15, tuned just in time for end of `The
Pulse of Turkish Foreign Policy` and start of `The Letterbox Show` -
as I have just finished delayed viewing of the #1 TV show, CBS Sunday
Morning via website minus commercials, which totals 62.5 minutes. As
usual I can only guess at some of the names, while others are repeat
attenders. 1) Michael Kovsky? NY, has 11780 Brasil QRM to 11785. 2)
Anatoly Klepov, Moskva wants May QSL: he reports every month. 3)
Christian Henke?, Germany, visited TRNC and has tried to QSL R.
Bayrak, but mail does not go thru; can VOT forward? 4) Mario Peña,
Zaragoza, Spain, has monitored Turkish and French, when is Spanish? 5)
Jayanta Chakroborty, India, 03 UT broadcast missing but heard next
day, better on 7275 aimed at NAm than 6165 toward ME. 6) Orlando?,
Taranto, Italy. 7) John Miller, Ochlocknee? Georgia, reports
``11875``. 8) Hideki? Miyaki? Japan, heard Chinese at 1100 on 17620,
et al. tentatively VOT. 2105 wrapup; says 5/19 is Atatürk Day, 2106
plays children`s choir with patriotic song. 2109 outro theme.

Don`t need to hear 2200 on 11785.006, but confirmed on at 2229 check,
S9+45 into UTwente, when I hear that Georgia town better (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785, May 19 at 2158, VOT not off the air but JBA direct
equal to noise level (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2295 monitoring: confirmed Sunday
May 18 at 2155 the 2130 on SW Radio, Germany, 3975.002+, S9+10 into
UTwente.

Also confirmed Sunday May 18 at 2330 on WRMI-11, 9455, S9+20/35 into S
Texas SDR, VG for us, NW across the continent. Skedgrid finally shows
this correctly on System D, not 7570 or 7780.

Also confirmed UT Monday May 19 at 0030 on WRMI-13, 7780, S9+10/30
into S Texas SDR.

Also confirmed UT Monday May 19 from 0305 on Area 51 webcast only as
previous program ran over; while WBCQ 5130 cut off at 0302*.

Also confirmed Monday May 19 at 1953 the 1930 on SW Radio, Germany,
6160.001, S9+10/15 and on 3975.002+, S8/S9, both into UTwente. Next:

0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to SW;
1300 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast];
1400 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast];
2000 UT Tuesday IRRS 1323-Italy;
2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW;
2330 UT Tuesday SW Radio, Germany 3975;
1930 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160;
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW;
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;
1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160.

Thanks this week for generous financial support from Peter Robinson,
Preston UK, via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com

One may also contribute by MO or check on a US bank to Glenn Hauser,
PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5085, May 20 at 0158 & 0228 chex, this WTWW is on again and
so is the other transmitter 5920. Still no sign of 9475, the daytime
counterpart of 5085 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9455, May 19 at 0539, this WRMI-11 is off again, so last
night`s expansion was anomalous. It`s also off at 0052 May 20 during
its nominal 00-04 schedule (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 17525, haven`t run across WMLK here for weeks in random
afternoon bandscans; is totally unused? HFCC A25 registered 1730-2230
daily except Sabbathdays. Mostly heard mornings on 15150, some
evenings on 9275. Last logged March 6-7-8 by myself and others when at
first it was putting out 8X kHz spurs (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1650, 1640, 1620 kHz, May 19 at 0600 UT, stupid sportstalk
as I tune downward, slight delay from 1650 to 1640 and a bit longer
delay on 1620, as network feeds are seldom synchronized from one
affiliate to another, i.e.: FSR on 1650 KCNZ Cedar Falls IA, to 1640
KZLS Hennessey/Enid OK, to 1620 KOZN Bellevue NE (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. ``Hi Glenn, It took a while, but I believe I can rule
out your 1549.82 carrier as being XEREL Morelia. I've attached an AVI
file that is from my recording of 11 May 2025 near local sunrise, when
the path between my home and Morelia was still in darkness. You can
hear the Mexican anthem weakly in the recording and notice that no
signal peaks are in the 1549.8-1549.9 range. I did not hear an ID, but
XEREL is the only known Mexican on 1550 in the UTC-6 time zone.

It is possible that another Mexican has recently become active on
1550, perhaps XECCAW in Jalisco, and that is the station playing the
anthem. In that case, though, XEREL is putting in virtually no signal
for me at 88 miles/142 km away. They have never been strong here
despite being on a wide-open frequency, and my suspicion since you
queried me about their signal is that the only way they will get to
Oklahoma is with a plane ticket. 73, Mike Jeziorski, Qro.``

Tnx, Mike. Well, I would settle for Perú instead, hi (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 6938.0, May 19 at 0556, JBA carrier again, cf
yesterday`s report: ``NORTH AMERICA. 6938 AM, May 18 at 0208 and still
0232, open carrier vs HSNL; at least I can`t make out any mod if it be
a pirate? Nothing now reported in HFU, tho lots of older logs, unIDs,
USB or AM``

To which Walt Salmaniw, BC replied: ``Glenn, I often hear this OC in
Masset, but always assumed it was somehow connected to my Bodnar
mini-GPS that does put out some spurs. I've never seen any modulation
associated with it. 73, Walt``
Well, I don`t have a Bodnar mini-GPS, whatever that be, so really
think 6938 be external to both of us. Should appear on various remotes
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Logs
** CUBA [and non]. Glad to have a report from a listener inside
Cuba!:

``Report about Radio Marti on AM from Cuba. Pavel Milanes Costa
(CO7WT) Sat, May 17 at 4:51 AM --- Hi, Pavel, CO7WT from Camagüey,
Cuba, about Radio Martí on AM on your World of Radio 2295 May 15 2025.
Radio Martí is heard routinely on Cuba on AM on 1180 kHz, there are
some funny situations that made that possible.

There is no secret on the long Cuba's energy crisis, and as you may
expect the local time 1700 (5pm) to 2100 (9pm) and sometimes up to
2300 (11pm) or later is the high demand period and they can't supply
the demand; then most of the country [but Havana, that is protected at
all costs] got routinely blackout at that times.

As a result a few of the local AM transmitters get powered from diesel
generators sometimes at reduced power; or usually just shut down
altogether. Lately the AM transmitters are just powered off during the
mentioned period and local diesel power is reserved for FM stations
[also on reduced power].

So, almost every province has an AM transmitter on 1180 kHz to jam the
Radio Martí one, but some AM listeners got a surprise when instead of
Radio Rebelde or a local station on the memory of his radio or they
dial spot get Radio Martí, mind the surprise of the listeners 😂

Attached is a recording of right now, local Radio Rebelde Transmitter
off and Radio Martí is coming strong, and here you have a picture of
the SDR waterfall. {visible in the WOR iog}

Receiver is a SDRplay with a 15m `long wire` connected to a 9:1
transformer for SW and MW monitoring, but you can pick it up decently
with almost any AM radio, my PL-880 on local setting has no problem to
hear Radio Martí on 1180 kHz most of the time.

Note: the heavy wiggly noise on the waterfall is my Battery inverter
system that makes some noise, but even with that noise it's easily
received, at this time the level of RM is down a little but around 8
pm local it's very strong here.

So, with the blackouts they are turning off the jamming stations and
at least in Camagüey Cuba it's normal to hear it with battery operated
radios.

73 and 88, a long time listener of your programs and lately an avid
SW/MW listener.``

Tnx, Pavel! More about him here:
https://www.qrz.com/db/CO7WT
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 9790, May 18 at 0218, no signal from CRI relay, which had
been more reliable than RHC itself, other than insufficient
modulation. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** NEW ZEALAND. 11725 // 13690, May 18 at 0648, RNZP on two AM
frequencies at once! Anomaly? 11725 is S8/9+25 while 13690 is only
S6/S9. What does their websked now show?
00:00 - 05:58     17675 Updated 11 May 2025 Pacific     Daily;
05:59 - 07:58     13690 Pacific Daily;
07:59 - 10:58     9700 + 11725 Pacific Daily;
10:59 - 12:58     9700 + 11725 Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, PNG Daily
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6925- AM, May 18 at 0209, pirate music, still at
0232; slightly low in frequency. These say Liquid Radio, logs before
and after these times as plain old 6925:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,145147.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6938 AM, May 18 at 0208 and still 0232, open carrier
vs HSNL; at least I can`t make out any mod if it be a pirate? Nothing
now reported in HFU, tho lots of older logs, unIDs, USB or AM (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 87.9, May 18 at 1608 UT, nearby dead air in $ tereo is on
again, idle feeder? (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. Sporadic E on FM is hopping around us, so I
bandscan on the caradio, getting none of that, but observing monophony
on nearer signals: i.e. no $ tereo icon, not going by how they sound
as  it`s not unusual for $ stations to emit monophonic content, even
music. Except for 89.7, correctly mono in WTDFA FMDB per my previous
input. This is 1600-1630 UT Sunday May 18:

89.3, KIEL Loyal
89.7, KJTH Ponca City, The House -- not noticed mono before, mostly
Christian music; anomaly? Yet its relay on 88.5, KZTH Piedmont is
$ tereo but sounds mono.
90.3, KHEV Fairview
92.1, KFXI Marlow - during church service, but always mono, music too
94.3, KCVW Kingman KS - since it`s Bott // 95.1
95.1, KQCV-FM Shawnee, Bott, // 94.3, mixed with KICT Wichita $
100.9, K265FL Enid of talker KGWA 960
105.1, KQSB Perry, sportstalk
91.7, KOSU OKC, normally mono all day with NPR/talk, M-F, is in $ tereoSunday in the 16-18 UT hour with music show: `The Toaster Brunch`(Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 102.7, May 18 at 1615, no KJYO signal or only a trace of
something, while other OKCs are normal/nominal: 100.5, 101.9, 104.1,
etc. (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. RF 13, May 18 at 0238 UT, three of the four OETA channels
are black except for lower-right bugs, i.e. they are getting no
programming input to put out, -2 World, -3 Create, -4 Kids - while -1
is nominal with main channel movie! Still so for a few minutes, but by
0245 check, they are all back. Storm is hitting OKC, maybe partial
power outage or satellite dishes disrupted.

** OKLAHOMA. I`ve been intending to survey all the sub/channels of the
OKC TV stations, as the lineups keep shifting - indeed I run across
some ``channel`` with names new to me. This is not via the rooftop
antenna, but rabbit ears on the second floor which I have very
carefully positioned for best/reliable reception of OETA RF 13. This
means that some other OKC channels don`t decode without messing with
the r-e which I don`t want to do: mainly KWTV 9 RF25, KSBI 52 RF23.
BTW, this handy dipole dates from my OKC era 1954-1961y, when they
were quite sufficient for local reception. No UHF loop included. These
names are read off the PSIP display, not from on-screen bugs which are
often different or variant! And note the capitalization and
punxuation, which I have copied exactly. This was accomplished around
0240-0315 UT May 18:

RF27:
4-1 KFOR DT
4-2 ANT-TV
4-3 TRUCRM
4-4 DEFY

RF7:
5-1 KOCO-HD
5-2 KOCO-ME

RF33:
34-1 KOCB
34-2 ROAR
34-3 Comet
34-4 Dabl

RF??: needs further investigation. There is an OKC area transmitter
altho KUOK is supposedly ch 35 in Woodward.
36-1 KUOK

RF19: tuner remembers when KAUT was ATSC 1.0 but cannot tune now that
it`s ATSC 3.0: 43-1, 43-2, 43-3, 43-4.

However alternating virtual 43s go to different RFs!:
43-1 KAUT-DT RF27 like KFOR which owns it
43-2 RewTV   RF24 which is competitor KOKH`s!
43-3 Mystery RF24!
43-4 COZI    RF33 which is KOCB`s!

RF18: breaking up but I manage to copy:
62-1 ION

** PERU. 4810 & 4820, May 18 at 0225, JBA carriers vs HSNL, no doubt
the Peruvian pair not yet signed off for the night, R. Logos, Chazuta,
San Martín, and R. Senda Cristiana, Cotahuasi, Arequipa (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2295 monitoring: confirmed
Saturday  May 17 at 2230 on WRMI 15770, S9/+10 into UTwente where
we`re aimed, not even checking direct or domestic remotes.

Also confirmed UT Sunday May 18 from 0354.7 the 0315v on WA0RCR, 1860
AM, MO, S9/+10 with strange QRM/QRN but audible into N9AZZ remote in
IL, inaudible direct in heavy storm noise level elsewhere in OK.

** U S A. 5085, May 18 at 0226, WTWW is off again, 24 hours after it
was on again (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9346.04 AM, May 18 at 0214 JBA talk, S9+10 vs HSNL direct
into the R75: but I can match the mod to 9330 WBCQ WLCR English into
the handy PL660 with no external antenna. First time I`ve heard such a
spur out of the SuperStition. Match 16+ kHz below? NO trace of any
circa 9314. 0233 recheck, now it`s drifted to 9346.09 or so.
Something`s messed up at Monticello (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5800, UT Sun May 18 at 0220, WRMI with talk about ham radio.
O, this axually matches the sked for WRMI-11 on System D: `CQ Calling`
at 0215-0230 UT Sundays. Entire hour on Tue-Sat is R. República (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9455, May 18 at 0645, unusually this WRMI-11 is ON, S9+30
direct, with SMTV // 9395 which is only S9+20. Maybe 9455 will finally
still be running System D during the 0900-1000 hour, including WOR
Saturdays at 0930?? System E TOMBS supposedly also 9455 daily
0800-0900. Xmtr grid still shows 9455 only at 2300-0400 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1010 kHz, May 18 at 0229 UT in bandscan vs HSNL around here,
ad for Florida homeowners from Florida Pest Control. Gee, could this
be from Florida? Yes, WJXL Jaxonvil Beach *still* way out of whack, U4
50/30 kW, day and night patterns supposed to throw it all out
eastward  into the Atlantic. Surely the easiest way to DX Fla on MW
without really trying. Is better on my E/W loop than N/S shortwire. As
I last logged it in early March (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 4849.95 approx., May 18 at 0638, JBA carrier direct,
pirate? But too late for Europe? See previous report (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 6110, May 18 at 0224, JBA carrier. Fana, Ethiopia should
not be on until 0255 or 0300. EiBi & Aoki agree TIBET is on 6110 now,
but it`s mid-morning there. Aoki also shows R. Delta, Holland but not
until 0600 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

From now and for an unknowntime, at least for 3 years, I will not use any radio except the remote SDRs forDXing. Recently we moved from the village back to the city in a space thatprohibits the use of desktop DXing, a place flooded by high levels of noise inthe LMHF bands. The radio is now used mostly for FM, for news listening.we runpolitically lively condition with always very interesting twits every day ..
