Glenn Hauser logs May 10-11, 2025  View Printable Version

Logs
** CHINA? 7360, May 10 at 2354, ME wailing is JBA direct, but EiBi and
Aoki show it`s CNR2 = China Business Radio until 2400, and HFCC as
site-x, 150 kW at 257 degrees, which would not send much signal
thisaway. However, VOT in Turkish is sked to China from 0000, so maybe
it were on early (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15230, May 11 at 1456, RHC with suptorted Spanish instead of
dead air, S6/S9. Progress! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EAST TURKISTAN. 9710, May 11 at 0002, S9+10 of instrumental Chinese
music. Yes, it`s another CRI `Portuguese` hour to S America with music
fill instead. Kashgar site (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO [non]. 800, May 11 at 0612 UT, KQCV OKC in the clear, no
extremely distorted CCI, and not noted for several nights now, so
maybe XEERG, Ojo de Agua NL, has finally been fixed or deleted! (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6849.95, May 11 at 0113, pirate music with heavy
beat, S9/+10. These say Liquid Radio on ``6850``:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,144845.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 6950, May 11 at 0124 UT, no signal from 5th harmonic of
my closest local, 1390 KCRC; yet I did hear it a bit earlier without
noting time; very weak but // 1390 on another radio. This of course
must be avoided when hunting pirates. Is U3 which means direxional
same pattern day and night, so should not be any change at official
sundown: it seems FCC AM Query nor LMS do not provide monthly tables
of SS/SR for each station any more? Also could not hear it on x4 =
5560. There is ordinarily at least a JBA carrier on x3 = 4170, and
more on x2 = 2780 (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. RF 27, May 10 circa 0300 UT, KFOR ``4`` OKC is not
decoding, signal too weak - very unusual. RF 29, KTUZ likewise. Yet
others such as RF 25 KWTV and RF 24 KOKH are normal. 27 and 29 on
backup lower power? Or DX QRM? Tropo is up a bit but not much. My
antenna at fault? On the rooftop it`s aimed about SE instead of SSE
directly at OKC. I have allowed that to stay as it should help get
easterly DX, but also reduces sigs from RF 13 OETA, and RF 7 KOCO,
insufficient. By 1600 UT, 27 is improved but 29 still too weak (Glenn
Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** SPAIN. 15500, May 11 at 0008, S9/+10 of open carrier with some hum,
stronger than anything on band except 15770 WRMI. Got to be Spain,
Noblejas forgot to turn off transmitter, on Sats sked only until 2300*
or rather -2305 after five minutes of earworm IS. Rechex: Still! at
0119 S9+30, and 0257. Nothing on the other three frequencies (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.004+, May 10 at 2201 VOT English not off the air,
S9+50/55 into UTwente. Spot chex: 2216 multi-lingual ID filler reel in
progress. 2217 music. 2221 ``with-you-every-hour`` promo, music. 2225
feature mentioning early history of China, by Efsun the axentuated, did
not get title. 2241 music. 2251 multi-lingual ID filler reel again.
2253 s/off for the 1330-1430 on 13635! Which was the B-season
schedule; at least so far this season they had misreferred to the A25
1230-1330 on 17620, which this is not either, awry at Ankara. 2254 IS
to 2254.5* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) See also CHINA? 7360

** U S A [and non]. LW NDB survey, May 10 at 0610 UT, when local line
noise level has lessened a bit, only S5/S6, allowing these to be JBA
detectable not only with MCW carrier but IDs: nothing remarkable, but
for the record: 255 SW, 293 FBY, 329 PMV, 332 IC, 346 YXL, 395 CA, 407
HRU (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR)

** U S A. Armed Forces Day May 10: I missed most of the yearly
crossband event, but at 2355 found NSS on 7535.0 CW calling CQ AFD DX,
and a QSX frequency presumably in 40m hamband.

In full bandscan hit NSS again at 0003 May 11 on 9945.0, ``CQ CQ AFD
DE NSS ---``

And NSS voice on 7546.5 LSB May 11 at 0114, operated by Allan(sp?) in
Maryland, QSX 7208. Worked N2JF.

This was the sked on MARS website: ``NSS / US NAVAL ACADEMY ANNAPOLIS,
MD (USB + CW) 10 May 1300Z – 11May 0200Z 4,038.5 kHz USB 5,330.5 kHz
USB 7,533.5 kHz USB 9,944.0 kHz USB 14,487.0 kHz USB`` --- many others
active but none encountered now without the frequencies in front of me
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 7630.5 USB, UT Sunday May 11 at 0127, AF MARS net with
AFA6CD as NCS; very pro-forma, calling each station for status report,
with abbr`d calls like 6CD, 6JX, 6RJ, 6GT, 6CN, etc. This was a
regular net, not part of AFD Crossband, altho one guy said he had
enjoyed it. Can`t find AFA6CD on a broad google search, other than as
some hex color code! Last logged this frequency on July 16, 2024
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2294 monitoring: NOT confirmed UT
Saturday May 10 at 0300 on WTWW 5085, because it`s off the air -
foiled again! It had been on when checked earlier after 0100, but had
problems as I reported. Don`t know when it crashed as I had not
checked again until 0258.

Confirmed Saturday May 10 at 1447 the 1430 on SW Radio, Germany,
6160.001+, S9 into UTwente.

Confirmed Saturday May 10 at 1600 on WRN North America stream.

Confirmed Saturday May 10 at 1733 the 1730 on SW Radio, Germany
6160.001, S9/+10 into UTwente, a little ACI from 6165 but NO RTTYditty
on 6164!

Also confirmed Saturday May 10 at 1733 on SW Radio, Germany,
3975.001+, S9 into UTwente, running about 14 words behind 6160;
separate playouts?

Also confirmed Saturday May 10 at 1946 about 2 minutes into so started
circa 1944 the 1930v on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO; JBA vs noise level into
K9VD SDR, Jerseyville IL, which is closest to WA0RCR, not Godfrey IL
or any other Kiwi.

Also confirmed Saturday May 10 after 1930 on WRN N America stream and
after 2000 on WRN Europe stream.

Also confirmed Saturday May 10 at 2230 on WRMI 15770, S9 into Maryland
SDR, and glad to hear it S9+5/10 into UTwente.

Also confirmed UT Sunday May 11 at 0148 the 0130 on WRN North America
stream.

Since 5085 WTWW was still on by 0257, I suggested they could run WOR
at 0300 since it was missed last night. Instead started Truth2Ponder
but cut off the air a few minutes later.

Also confirmed UT Sunday May 11 at 0315, right on time! on WA0RCR,
1860 AM, S5/S7 into Maryland SDR which on night path is getting it
better than in Illinois.

Also confirmed Sunday May 11 at 1900 on IRRS SW via AM Italia,
1322.995+ kHz, S7/S8 into UTwente. Next:

2130 UT Sunday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160;
2330 UT Sunday WRMI 9455 to NW; or 7570? 7780?;
0030 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to SW;

Financial support appreciated for our non-commercial public
service program, by MO or check on a US bank to

Or not necessarily in US funds via PayPal to:
woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5085, May 11 at 0123, this WTWW is on again with the
plus/minus 12.9 kHz parasitic spurs and the modulation somewhat noisy
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9930, May 11 at 1501, WTWW TOMBS S9+30 lacking spurs;
non-synchronized 9980 WWCR also with TOMBS. Redundancy! (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5050, May 11 at 0122, this WRMI is off; pretty sure I tuned
across it earlier. Supposed to be on `Legends` at 0100-0400.
Something`s odd at Okeechobee (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1450 kHz, May 10 at 0641 UT, ID in passing as ``Co-co``
briefly topping the graveyard pileup. That`s all I need: KOKO,
Warrensburg MO. See my previous log on Nov 8, 2024 at 0802 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 630.05, May 11 at 0609 UT, JBA het to 630.00 stations.
KHOW Denver had been reported offset plus but not that much. Next time
I should try to DF it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1610 kHz, May 11 at 0621 UT, dead air at S9+, suspected
CHHA Toronto again, the only N American on this `clear` channel -
except for HAR/TIS: hundreds of them listed here, almost all 10 watts,
including three in OK: OKC, Davis and Jet - the latter has been gone
for a few years:
https://www.mwlist.org/mwlist_quick_and_easy.php?area=3&kHz=1610
Listening further, a trace of modulation, QRM? or CHHA? In S America
there is one 1610 in Argentina +3 inactives, and two in Perú, all
low-power (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs May 9-10, 2025  View Printable Version
Saturday, May 10 2025

Logs
** JAPAN. 18131.8 USB, May 9 at 2211, JF1EHM with fonetik call.
QRZ.com: ``JF1EHM Japan flag Japan, Ishida Hiroaki, 2-5 Yoshino-cho,
Minami-ku, Yokohama-city, Kanagawa, 232-0014, Japan`` ``my name is
Jim``. Not many phone sigs on band, but a minute later I`m hearing
Malta, quite a range (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MALTA. 18124 USB, May 9 after 2212, station working pileups of N
Americans on same frequency, with every quick contact says he is on
island of Gozo, Malta, but seldom with callsign which I never copy
completely - and the contacts are mostly uttering only their own
calls! One is VE9BS. DXheat cluster shows it`s 9H5BV, on Gozo, name
Dionne which I also heard once; altho a few minutes away are reports
of a 9H5BZ on same frequency.

Oh oh, QRZ.com lookup shows the above reports are confused: both are
on Gozo but: ``9H5BV Malta flag Malta, GEORGE CAMILLERI, CASA NAUTICA,
TRIW GHAXQET L-GHAJN, M SCALA GOZO, VCT 108, Malta``

While Dione is this one: ``9H5BZ Malta flag Malta, Dione Caruana,
`Maria`, 6, Church Street, Zebbug, Gozo ZBB1202, Malta`` - did not
sound like a YL. Has strict rules about who she? will contact, at
least 3000 km away, and ``My name is Dione. I live in the Island of
Gozo in an old village of Zebbug. I am a senior nurse and work in the
Emergency Department in one of our Local General Hospital. I am
married to Ben and have 2 lovely daughters.`` Many photos on qrz.com
indicate that 9H5BZ is indeed an OM; but you never know, trans one way
or another?

[non]. And their first contact also heard: ``VE9BS Canada flag Canada,
Byron Smith, Deer Island, New Brunswick, Canada, QSL: No QSL at this
time`` with lots of photos of the island, equipment (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 95.5, May 9 circa 1930/2000 UT, LP pirate playing rock
music still on, peaking around the intersexion of Cleveland and
Garriott in Enid. Never heard any announcements, but I only hear it
for a few minutes at a time as I drive thru; $ tereo pilot is on (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 15500, 17715, 15520, 15390, Fri May 9 at 2200, token English
from SNR on all direct, previewing interview about an Australian
theatre group dealing with disabilities appearing in Madrid. 2201 news
leads with ``gotta pappa`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785, May 9 at 2158, no signal from VOT English direct;
nor at 2225 check into UTwente, nor on accidentalternate 9875.
Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2294 monitoring: confirmed Friday
May 9 at 1300 on WRMI 15770, JBA S1/S3, first weekly airing.

Also confirmed Friday May 9 at 2051 on IRRS SW via AM Italia,
1322.995+, S8/9 but noisy into UTwente across Europe.

Also confirmed Friday May 9 at 2206 the 2200 on WRMI 9955, S9+10/20
direct but undermodulated.

Also confirmed Friday May 9 at 2230 on SW Radio, Germany, 3975.002+,
S8/9+5 into UTwente. Next:

** U S A. 9930, May 9 at 2207 WTWW TOMBS without any spurs (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5085, May 10 at 0100, this WTWW is back on air, presumably
Ancient Word Radio. Was watching the waterfall from W1NT NH as I had
been monitoring 5130 WBCQ on it. Think 5085 just came on, at first
more signal about 5087 then to 5085, and no spurs showing. at 0102
seems to put out 5087 modulation again briefly. At 0130, mod/noise on
the low side. Hope they can keep it going until 0330 for WORLD OF
RADIO at 0300 UT Saturday as originally scheduled (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A. Pre-AAAWWW WBCQ monitoring into NH SDR, May 9 at 2355: 7490
-70 Hz = 7489.93 with FKB S9/+10. 5130 IS & ID S9/+10. 3265 also on
with FKB, S9/+10 but pulse QRM from 3260+. 6160 -73 Hz = 6159.927 with
other music S9+10. 9330 off at 2358 for antenna rotation. at 2359
Allan comes on live on 5130 // 7490. May 10 at 0000, `WTO` theme and
talkovers, first about new pope; ``enjoy it``; ``speed``? Now on 9330,
7490, 5130 and 3265. Brings up Angela on phone who must be back in
Fla, while Allan is in Maine on maintenance visit. We hardly hear from
her during the hour. Allan is quadricasting, from master control where
they stil have three copper-pair phone lines, two of which were dead.
Took telco four days to fix. 0010 Freddy interrupts with a phone call,
and long discussion about tractors (!) ensues. 0023 C&W song. 0035
datestamp as 9 of May YOOLF 2025, quadricasting. Except for
SuperStition, most equipment is 40-70 years old. 5130 needed more
voltage on driver; put in another plate transformer. 5130 now measured
at 5129.919. 0052 talk about cars and other vehicles. 0057 emails. Did
not get around to pinpointing 3265 before it went off, but in past has
been way off more than 100 Hz to plus side, unlike the others (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 660, May 9 at 0625 UT, Navajo chanting, so KTNN AZ is
obviously again failing to protect New York; when it is DA, really not
heard here (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 5100.0, May 9 at 0630, beeps, i.e. CW-like carrier on &
off at the precise rate of 26 times per minute. What`s this? (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
