Friday, February 16 2024
** CUBA. 5025, Feb 15 at 0732, R. Rebelde programming presumed, back on air at S9+40/45, VG (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2230)
** INTERNATIONAL WATERS [non?]. Re 4251, NJDM: ``Hi Glenn, A useful url for locating marine traffic: US Navy Warships Tracker (marinevesseltraffic.com) https://www.marinevesseltraffic.com/navy-ships And for the ship in question: USS Jason Dunham (DDG-109) NATO WARSHIP Current Position ( - DUAL TRACKING - ) | Marine Vessel Traffic https://www.marinevesseltraffic.com/vessels/USS-Jason-Dunham-(DDG-109)/CURRENT-POSITION/1/366997034 David Ross`` -- That`s helpful; shouldn`t such info be classified? Anyhow as of Feb 14, NJDM is right near Jaxonvil FL (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2230) ** U S A. 8992 USB, Feb 15 at 1605, ``This is Raindrop`` and fonetix: TDVUC7 repeated, then alfanumeric ``message follows`` starting with those same 7. No echo but always background noise. I assume the same ID is never used more than once? Feb CIDX Messenger Utility column by Gilles Letourneau informs: ``HF Global Command (HFGCS) 4724, 8992, 11175 and 15016 kHz USB --- One common use for the HFGCS is to place telephone calls from the aircraft in flight [...] The HFGCS also carries Emergency Action Messages (EAMs). In addition to EAMs, the HFGCS carries a few other types of messages. A higher priority code for orders is a Skyking Message, which is a time sensitive message for orders that need immediate attention. Force Direction Messages (FDM's) are also sent through the HFGCS, although it is impossible to tell whether the message is an FDM or just another EAM being read. Although transmissions are often single sideband (SSB), the use of the ALE transmission mode is more and more common. HFGCS complements the use of satellite communications between aircraft and ground stations. If you hear echo on the frequency you’re listening to, it is due to the signal often being transmitted over several stations at the same time.`` I have not happened upon a Skyking Message in many years (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2229 monitoring: ``From: Richard Lemke, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, the desk of Richard’s listening Post, Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF, antenna: random long wires in the trees. Glenn Hauser logs February 14, 2024 |
|
Thursday, February 15 2024
Note: previous report was misyeared Feb 13, 2023 instead of 2024; sigh
** CANADA. 300 kHz MCW, Feb 14 at 0746, dash and YIV, 500-watt NDB at Island Lake, Manitoba, <54N/<95W, JBA vs the still hi local noise level. First copied as YIW but must have been YIV (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. Wolfgang Bueschel replies to my reports of spy numbers revived on 9330 vs WBCQ: ``9330.000 even kHz nice most modern Chinese transmitter looking of BBEF (Beijing Broadcast Equipment Factory) type, audio signal of S=9+10dB up to +20dB, underneath US religious private WBCQ, from Cuban Spanish SPY number service, MOST LIKELY via Made in Chinese tx site RadioCuba Bauta, NOT FROM BEJUCAL - old ancient USSR 50 kW unit. 07.10 UT on Febr 14. y73 de wolfie df5sx wwdxc topnews`` (via Glenn Hauser, WOR) ** INTERNATIONAL WATERS [non?]. 4251 kHz, Feb 14 at 0732, CW over & over, nothing but NJDM. Leading up to this log, starting with unID on odxa iog: ``I copied NJDM being sent repeatedly in morse code on 4251 khz on 2/11/2024 at 0245 utc. Does anyone know where this station is? The signal was strong and clear into Springfield Ma. USA Jim Bee`` ``Good strong signal UTC 0255 Feb 14 Grand Rapids MI. I'm also clueless as to what it is for. 73 Jack NY8D Amelar`` ``Also easy copy on my little Tecsun in the living room on its built-in whip! Mayne Island, BC. Steve VE7SL McDonald`` at 0304 Feb 14. Don Moman, Feb 14: ``it was loud in Alberta at 0400 but went off before recheck at 0420`` ``N+3 letters implies a US Navy vessel - however I`ve searched a number of such callsign lists and not found it; new one? 73, Glenn Hauser`` ``USS Jason Dunham DDG-109 (helis.com) https://www.helis.com/database/unit/1961-USS-Jason-Dunham/#google_vignette David Ross`` Illustrated and indicating it is not new. But why these transmissions, and where be it parked? I notice that in this and many other cases, the callsigns try to match letters in the ship`s name. Broad search on call leads to lots of irrelevant New Jersey hits (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960.016, Feb 14 at 2343 tune-in via UTwente, VOT S9+45 in music. Missed most of the broadcast and all of simulSpain while dealing with an internet outage. Nothing but more music till 2354 s/off for the 1330 only; 6 notes of IS before chopoff, no finesse, uncovering XJRTV in Chinese, only S9/+5, std genocidal denunciations (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2229 monitoring: confirmed UT Wednesday February 14 at 0030 on WRMI 9395, S6/S7 but good into Missouri SDR. Also confirmed Wednesday February 14 at 1518 the secret 1500 on WRMI 9955, during the NZ birdsong clip, S5/S7 direct, no jamming audible. Also confirmed Wednesday February 14 at 2053 the 2030 on SW Radio, Germany, 3975.002, S9+5/10 into UTwente; followed at 2059 by `CQ Parade` jingle and SW Radio ID, 2100 rock music show. Also confirmed Wednesday February 14 at 2200 on WBCQ 7490, S9/+10 into Maryland SDR. Next: 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S 0230 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 1730 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 3975 As noncommercial services, financial support appreciated. Thanks this week to our friend Frank in Stockton, lower Alabama for some cash and says ``Dear Mr Hauser, Thank you for your program. Shortwave has been a source of great enjoyment and education for me. Greetings and best wishes``, preferably by MO or check on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702. One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to: woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. (101.5), Wed Feb 14 from 0700 UT, webcast of KSFR Santa Fe NM, one of my favorite stations, starts `The Third Floor`, vocal, choral music, sacred and secular, I enjoy but too late. KSFR info: ``Wednesdays Midnight-2:00 am [MST] Bill Cromwell is your host and listening companion for two hours of Vocal and Choral Classical Repertoire each week on The Third Floor Presents. Enjoy motets, masses, cantatas, choruses, lieder, arias, songs, and more from around the world and across the centuries. For more The Third Floor Presents, visit https://classicalthirdfloor.org That also leads to audibility on demand; out of Fort Loudon, PA: https://exchange.prx.org/series/44990-the-third-floor-presents-vocal-choral-classical-mu Provenance of title remains a mystery. I previously reported about this show when it was on KUCO, which did not last long: see under OKLAHOMA: https://www.w4uvh.net/ghlogs_2022_1208_1214.txt A few minutes into it this week on KSFR stream, jarringly interrupted by a few seconds of African? drumming, automation screwup? It also keeps cutting short the closing announcement of the preceding show `Map Is Not Territory`. I have notified The Invisible Man, Mark Kuechle about this. I guess he is voice-tracking, not really `live` there, altho I think he is really at KSFR (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0010 UT February 15 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/
