Glenn Hauser logs January 7, 2024  View Printable Version

Logs
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RCUSB, LRA36: as in last report, still running
at 0035 UT Jan 7; by next check at 0202 into Argentine remote, it`s
gone (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** BRAZIL. 4885, Jan 7 at 0438, zero signal from R. Clube do Pará,
gone again after weak appearance last night. Usual weak sig from 4985
much further RBC so prop is OK (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6000, Jan 7 at 0442, RHC English S9+20 but JBM, yet this time
with parasitic spur carriers on 5990 & 6010, the upper hetting I am
confident the off-frequency Brasil. Somethings always wrong at RHC
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15140, Jan 7 at 1542, this RHC is missing; but 11760 is on
VG, and then I find // music on two unskeds: 15230, at 1544, VP S6/S9
undermodulated; and at 1550, 9710, S3/S6! All this may have affected
Sunday Esperanto at 1600, unrechecked. When are the extras supposedly
sked? Aoki: 9710 Bejucal, 11-15, 21-04; 15230 Titán Quivicán, 12-15,
22-05. EiBi: 9710 NOT; 15230 Q, 13-16, 23-06 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** JAPAN [non]. 6165, Jan 7 at 0444, something fair in Russian. EiBi
shows NHK at 0430-0450 via D-n = Nauen, GERMANY (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A. 293 MCW kHz, Jan 7 at 0756 UT, FBY, 25- or 50-watt ND beacon
at Fairbury, NE. JBA, but the noise blanker on the NRD 545 makes the
difference vs my intolerable LW noise level. I have been looking for
this for months, not detecting even a carrier, and suspected to have
been off. Last logged Oct 18, but maybe heard somewhat later, as it
had been so regular. It used to be my most reliable Nebraskan, even in
daytime. It is after all, just beyond Kansas at lat. 40-10-36 N (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2244 monitoring: confirmed UT
Sunday January 7 at 0100 on WRMI 9955, S9+10 into Georgia SDR.

Also confirmed starting at 0508 UT Sunday January 7 the 0415v on
WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, S9+20 into nearby SDR.

Also confirmed Sunday January 7 at 1144 the 1130 on WRMI 9955, S9+25?
direct. Next:

2100 UT Sunday IRRS 1323 & 918? & 207?-Italy
0030 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to SW
0400vUT Monday WBCQ Area 51 6160v to WSW
0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to SW
1400 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?]
0030 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1200 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB or 3210-USB
1230 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB or 3210-USB
[previous #2223][SW suspended but still streamed?]
1500 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [unsked but reconfirmed Jan 3]
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S
0230 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW

As noncommercial services, financial support appreciated. Thanks this
week to Chris Krug, KC5IIE, Tulsa OK, for a contribution via PayPal,
in US funds but not necessarily, to woradio at yahoo.com and says, ``I
very much appreciate all the hard work and dedication, Glenn! SWL is
alive and well thanks to your efforts. Happy 2024!``

One may also contribute via MO or check on a US bank to:
Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 7489.9+ approx., UT Sun Jan 7 at 0400, Pirate Joe with some
non-delusional comments about T****. TG for Free Speech on WBCQ; 0404
plays an old scratchy song. `Shortwave Saturday Night` runs 02-05 UT
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VATICAN. 15565, Jan 7 at 1546, VR at S9+20/30, the SSOB, despite
supposedly beaming toward E Africa, 180 degrees off? Or no
back-radiation suppression? Just another of countless examples of this
situation. Language at 1530-1600 daily is Amharic. Continues until
1830 in Swahili, Somali, English 1630-1700, French, Tigre, Portuguese.
Something`s suspicious at SMG (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 518 kHz, Jan 7 at 0422 UT, NAVTEX beepery.
DXinfocentre.com has too many choices around here for 0420 UT: VCK,
Moisie, Canada: HJW, Santa Marta, Colombia; NMC, Point Reyes, USA.
Countless of these worldwide are scheduled in 10-minute segments;
other main frequency 490 kHz where I`ve never heard it, and a few
others scattered in this area (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, Jan 7 at 0407:
585, 612, 693, 774-2, 837, 855, 882, 891, 909, 999, 1053, 1089, 1098,
1107. A later 10/kHz scan at 0423 adds 711 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1430 kHz, Jan 7 at 0413 UT, Spanish gospel huxter raving
about María, and still at 0430 check: must be RCC Marian cult. Loops
roughly NW/SE. NRC AM Log has best three possibilities right next to
each other; SS:REL is KMES Ogden UT, Esne Radio, unknown if Catholic;
two Texans with EWTN and Guadalupe R Network, not specified as SS, but
isn`t Guadalupe? No echo. From website, GRN seems mostly English but
some Spanish; not clear if one language per station or mixed: KEES
Gladewater and KSHJ Houston, both 5/1 kW. Looking at the NRC Pattern
Book, 2013, I see that for 1430 the enumeration is one digit off! 52
Gladewater is really Houston, and there is no 53 which is supposed to
be Houston. OK is also off: 41 on the map is obviously Alva, but on
the key it`s 42 while 41 is Newark OH! So where is Gladewater TX? in
the NE near Longview. I merely wanted to evaluate which had the more
favorable night pattern thisaway: both are no good with most signals
E/W or south. If really on day pattern/power, KEES is ND and KSHJ
thisaway. KMES certainly no good, N/S day and night. FWIW, some three
hours later, no Spanish to be heard (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs January 6-7, 2023  View Printable Version

Logs
** ALGERIA. 17600, Jan 6 at at 1616, S7/S9 music from Ifrikya FM is
slightly overmodulated distorting, and spewing splatter up as far as
17650, less on the down side. Had not noticed any of that before.
17600 seems off by 1900 rather than scheduled -2000* (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Sat Jan 6 at 1743, LRA36 is already on
with songs, S6/S7. 1836 still songs, cuts off modulation, then
``probando`` test counts up and down, doesn`t know he`s on the air?
Some other talk, 1847 more dead air; 1849 music; 1852 YL DJ greets
listeners; 1900 4 pm time check, `Nacional Noticias` with annoying
musical background. Kept listening past 1945, more YL DJ, songs,
greetings, 4+ pm TCs. Nothing whatsoever about Antarctica! Instead
they are relaying R. Nacional, Bs. As., probably // 870. Yes, at 2020
she mentions 870 and 98.7 FM. I hear nothing about a presidential
visit; it`s the chainsaw guy, Javier Milei, flying to Marambio first,
maybe not yet Esperanza. 2300 recheck, now trace of a signal direct
including the reduced carrier.

UT January 7 at 0007, still good S7/S9 into Argentine remote with
music, and soon a long talk stretch. 0026 a genuine LRA36 ID, unclear
if still relaying LRA Nacional otherwhen. NO: 0035 YL with ``CQ de
LU1ZV, boletín - antártico`` and historical radio news from many years
ago, hardly a breaking ``bulletin``. Etc.

Manuel Méndez had reported at 1745: ``ANTARCTICA, 15476usb, LRA 36,
Radio Nacional Arcángel San Gabriel, Base Esperanza, 1732-, 06-01,
relaying Radio Nacional, songs, comments, ID "En todo el país, Radio
Nacional". Today special program due to the visit to Base Marambio and
Base Esperanza of the president of Argentina. Weak signal at the
moment.
https://www.tvpublica.com.ar/post/milei-partio-a-la-antartida-para-visitar-las-bases-marambio-y-esperanza
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** BRAZIL. 4885v+, Jan 6 at 0147, S7 open carrier into Missouri
remote, varies +19/28 Hz, similar offset like R. Clube do Pará before
it vanished a couple weeks ago. Following tip on WOR iog: ``Currently
at 0023 UT have a strong carrier on 4885 KHz - maybe Rádio Clube do
Pará is coming back? 73, Mike Beu, KD5DSQ, Austin, Texas``. By 0422
it`s JBA talk into Bonaire SDR varying +20/23 Hz. Pardinho gets JBA on
+23; Brasília makes it out better, continuous talk in Portuguese, S9
vs storm noise, and with an automatic 5?-pip timesignal at 0430. If
Pará, it`s much weaker than before, both direct and remotedly. Even at
Brasília, 4985 RBC is much stronger. As I recheck direct at 0433, 4885
is JBA S5/S8. Still on at my further rechex, 0504 S9+10 but dead air?
0737 JBA carrier. Meanwhile Manuel Méndez reported directly at 0625:
``Yes Mike, Rádio Clube is back but with a weaker signal than usual.
Log in Lugo, NW of Spain: BRAZIL, 4885, Rádio Clube do Pará, Belém,
0604-0633, 06-01, Rádio Clube is back on the air after several days
out, but at the moment it seems to be on with less power than usual.
Relaying Rádio Bandeirantes news. Very weak. 15421`` (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15140 & 11760, Jan 6 at 1658, both of the only RHC
frequencies scheduled on at midday, are missing. SAWA (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** MADAGASCAR. 11720, Jan 6 at 1659, S3/S5 open carrier; 1700 AWR
themesong sung with words, then regular instrumental version. Swahili
scheduled 1700-1730 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.005, Jan 6 at 2300, VOT not off the air,
S9+30 into UTwente. Paying some attention later: 2312 already song
after news, ROTP? 2315 ``always-by-your-side`` promo, and `The Energy
Agenda`, don`t recall that segment before, new for new year? 2320
``with-you-every-hour`` promo, song. 2325 `Turkey`s Geomarked [sic]
Products`, about Tandoory[?] pastries from some town. 2328 ``WYEH``
again, music. 2333 `WYEH`` #3! and music. 2338 ``WYEH`` #4! and
2-minute multi-lingual ID filler reel, music. 2344 ``WYEH`` #5, song.
2348 ``WYEH`` #6, enough!! and music.

Note: the music is never announced or identified in any way; just as
well? As we couldn`t understand the names. Of course, they *could*
explain the songs in English at some length; the music-fill must
amount to at least half the broadcast hour, more than that this time.
2352 s/off version with correct! B23 UTimes and frequencies, but
incomplete overlooking this very emission! 2353 IS. Something`s always
awry at Ankara. 2356 restart IS with German IDs.

UT January 7: extraneously still on at 0000 with almost accurate
timesignal, quick German s/on, skipping all those satellite
parameters; same news sounder as English, Nachrichten. It still
overcomes the JBA CCCCCCI from EAST TURKISTAN. The Germod seems a bit
gemuffelt. Still going past 0020: will the lucky masculine or feminine
German hearer past 1 am local get a full hour? No, by 0028 I am
hearing Chinese instead on 5960.001, only S9 into UTwente, as I am
simulplaying LRA36 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2224 monitoring: confirmed UT
Saturday January 6 at 0130 on WRMI 5850.

Also confirmed Saturday January 6 at 1700 & 2030 on WRN N America
webcast.

Also confirmed Saturday January 6 at 2030 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO,
S9+20 into nearby SDR; and on WRMI webcast, almost synchro with WRN.

Also confirmed Saturday January 6 at 2100 on WRN Europe webcast.

As noncommercial services, financial support appreciated. Thanks this
week to Chris Krug, KC5IIE, Tulsa OK, for a contribution via PayPal,

Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Pre-`AAAWWW` check of WBCQs, UT Sat Jan 6 at 0050 into
accurately calibrated NH remote: 3265+, no signal. 5130.299 ATATT.
6159.934 algo. 7489.969 FKB. 9330.000 WLCR. 0100 starts on 5 & 7 &
webcast only, admittedly replay of the ``Dec 22`` show of one biweek
ago. Never mind (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, Jan 6 at 0436 on
the NRD545 with E/W longwire: 891-2 with beat 132/min = 2.2 Hz; 711,
855, 999, 1007, 1044, 1107, 1125, probably mostly Spain; AND 1194! not
a broadcast frequency, but sounds like right on 1194.00 so unlikely a
spur or image.

This time I switch ASAP to the R75 and scan again at 0447-0456: 711,
774-2, 882, 891-2 this time counting 144/min beats = 2.4 Hz; 1044,
1071, 1089-2 with 1 Hz beat; NO 1194; 1296, 1413, 1485. This on the
Wellbrook loop antenna aimed E/W, and note this! ``Death of Andrew
Ikin - Wellbrook Communications
https://groups.io/g/IRCA/topic/103527671

1089 has 6 Talksport synchros in UK ranging from 4 watts to 150 kW;
strongest are Brooksmans Park 150, Westerglen 125, Moorside Edge
50/100, Washford 80 kW. But mwoffsets shows all of them within a
fraxion of 1 Hz on 1089.00000 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. After lots of JBA TA MW carriers, Jan 6 at 0457, I try
LWBC frequencies again and on the R75 and Wellbrook do detect a couple
on 162 and 180 kHz. Always must beware of birdies and images, but
these may be legit: 162, 800 kW from Allouis, France, no longer
broadcasts, used only for TDF timesignals. But per listings 180 is
unoccupied. Such `even` frequencies are most subject to local MW
images. Long ago there were 1200 kW from Turkey on 180 and a couple of
Asiatic Russians (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 518 kHz, Jan 6 at 0502 UT, beepery on the NAVTEX
frequency. I have no way to decode those, but sometimes audible,
sometimes not. This exhaustive sked shows the closest one at this hour
is also among the most powerful anywhere: 5 kW NMG, New Orleans:
