Glenn Hauser logs December 10-11, 2023  View Printable Version
Tuesday, December 12 2023

Logs
** CUBA. 4765, Dec 11 at 0509, R. Progreso still on past local
midnight playing `Let It Be` -- yes, a song from the Free World, S9+30
but somewhat undermodulated. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba;
5025 Rebelde is on now despite sporadic appearances (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. 6000, Dec 11 at 0513, RHC S9+20/30 but JBM in English, and
not at all anywhere else. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9439.989, Dec 10 at 2136, S9+30 of totally deadair in
English from R. Cairo into UTwente, twice as far off-frequency than
usual 9439.995, so different transmitter, or old one jostled?
Something`s egregious in Egypt (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Mon Dec 11 at 2300, token English from SNR: after
news, 2308 first interview about El Camino de Santiago having
become a UNESCO World Heritage Site two sesquidecades ago. 2320 about
anniversary of Berlin Wall falling in 1989y, and start in Madrid of a
7-year exhibition about it with several heavy sexions of the Wall
itself. S9+30/40 direct (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.005, Dec 10 at 2319, VOT not off the air,
S9+35/45 into UTwente, 2320 `Weekly Analysis` by John -- but read by a
different YL voice than the usual ones, something about Israel &
Hamas. Says Israel has committed ``mass genocide`` -- guess that`s
even worse than mere genocide. 2352 ``with-you-every-hour`` promo;
2353 s/off with correct but incomplete English sked overlooking this
very broadcast. 2354 IS. Still on at 0000 timesignal several seconds
early and opening German, but off by next check 0006 Dec 11,
uncovering XJPBS East Turkistan, land of ChiCom imperialist genocide
against Uyghurs and other Moslems. Something`s always erroneous at
Emirler.

5960.005, Dec 11 at 2339, VOT not off the air in English, S9+30/40
into UTwente, ``always-by-your-side`` promo, `Feeling Supreme/The
Healing Spring` on natural remedies for osteoporosis; 2346
``with-you-every-hour`` promo, `Did You Know That`, badax on a 1,255
km-long river. 2351 s/off with English schedule, all-wrong local times
called UTC. Seems they have about 3 different versions of the s/on/off
with a variety of defects, alternating. 2352 IS, and off by 2353*
uncovering the 6CI of only S9+15/25, which had been an undercurrent,
std denunciation. Something`s always awry at Ankara (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A [non]. 6170, Dec 11 at 0515, S9+10/20 in African language.
EiBi shows VOA Hausa via ASCENSION this semihour only (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2220 monitoring: Also confirmed
Sunday December 10 at 2100 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1323 kHz, S9+5
and no QRM into UTwente across Europe.

Also confirmed UT Monday December 11 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S9/+10 but
noisy into Durango2 SDR; still no noise blast first 14 seconds.

Also confirmed UT Monday December 11 at 0400 on Area 51 via WBCQ
6160-. Next:

0130 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to SW
1400 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?]
0030 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1200 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB or 3210-USB
1230 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB or 3210-USB [previous #2219]
1500 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [unsked but confirmed last week]
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW or 5130v?
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S
0230 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW

Thanks to S. P. McGreevy, Keeler, CA, for a generous contribution via
PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com --- ``DXcellence forever!``

One may also contribute via MO or check on a US bank to:
Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. (7490-), UT Mon Dec 11 at 0000, WBCQ webcast with music
instead of `Le Show`, 0005 outro `Plain Old Doug Show`, which has
replaced `Ginga Brasil` and Uncle Bill says his `Melting Pot` will be
on next Sunday at 2300. Very unusual for WBCQ to be running late like
this; had not noticed any buffering buildup and is more or less the
same on 7490v via Virginia SDR. `Le Show` starts immediately from
beginning, so maybe it too would run over past 0100 (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A. 9455, Dec 11 at 0521, WRMI-5 is OFF despite nominal 24/7
usage; should be `Legends` at 04-06 or -07 in self-contradictory
skedgrid. 9395 still on with TOMBS and much weaker 9955, // 9265 WINB.
Something`s off at Okeechobee (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9265v, Dec 11 at 0521, WINB with hymn on TOMBS // but not
synchro 9395 WRMI. Latest program sked dated Dec 3 shows this TOMBS
segment daily at 0502-0658; then DRM somewhere from 0700, weekends
from 0800. I thought all WINB DRM had been dropped months ago.
DRMRX.org sked shows no WINB. But HFCC has these registrations, all
imaginary?:
07-08 daily 7330;
08-09 S/S 13655;
08-11 M-F & 09-10 S/S 9265;
11-12 M-F 15125;
12-17 M-F 15725. [I should not have to punxuate these, but some
destinations delete the line breaks, saving trees?] WINB never
disclosed the purpose or who was sponsoring these broadcasts which
were hybrid, half programming, half encrypted? digitalism (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Early UT Mon Dec 11, WTWW & WWCR are on, ops normal, despite
tornado hitting Nashville, I know not where exactly, much worse in
Clarksville, already devoid of SW stations (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 660, Dec 11 at 0526 UT Navajo chanting, segué to country
song in English, culture clash! Suspect KTNN, AZ/NM, dominating
channel, so on 50 kW ND day pattern not protecting NYC? (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW 9/kHz carrier search, Dec 11 at
0459: 567, 576-2, 684, 738, 774, 891, 1107, 1125, 1296, 1341, 1503,
1566, 1710. Later on a 10/kHz bandscan at 0527 another one not noted
earlier: 711 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 810.6 kHz approx., het against 810 stations, no audio
pullable but seems too strong to be a local birdie and nonesuch noted
here before. Nothing any more than +045 Hz in mwoffsets list (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

Logs
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RCUSB, UT Sun Dec 10, the Saturday LRA36
broadcast from before 1800, keeps on going into Argentine remote: at
0125 check, 0206 rock music, 0228, 0300 S7 music, finally off circa
0352* -- well after local midnight (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6000, Dec 10 at 0423, RHC manages to be on air this time,
S9+30/40 English but suptorted = suppressed and distorted
undermodulation. Not found on any other frequency. Something`s always
wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15140, Sunday Dec 10 at 1614, RHC in weekly Esperanto, S6/S8
// 15140 S7/S9 yet 11760 is much better and louder. Something`s always
wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U K [non]. 12095, Dec 10 at 1618, Russian at S9+10/20, newish WRN
service via DHA site, one of strongest signals on band, surely the
strongest extracontinental, slightly better even than R. Martí via NC
on 11930, S9/+20. It`s 250 kW, 345 degrees from UAE so also favors us
far beyond western Russia, e.g. Denver, less than 10 degrees away from
Enid. HFCC of Dec 6 however, has this registered only at 14-15 UT.
Aoki misses it completely, but EiBi:
12095 1530-1600 RUS WRN Vsemirnaya Radioset R EEu /UAE
12095 1620-1630 RUS WRN Vsemirnaya Radioset R EEu /UAE
12095 1630-1700 SVK Radio Slovakia Int. R EEu /UAE
12095 1530-1600 Sunday UN United Nations Radio R EEu /UAE

I doubt there really be a break 1600-1620. Vsemirnaya obviously means
Worldwide, Всемирная, but Radioset? It`s really радиосеть = radio
network (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 379 MCW kHz, Dec 10 at 0418, local line noise has abated but
now there is heavy noise from a straight line of storming from the RGV
of TX to the PA/NY border, heaviest in LA/MS/AL/TN, so I can detect a
few JBA DX beacons, but copy is difficult. But ongoing, should be
low-noise nights of both kinds.

On 379 first seems like SU? Nothing listed. At 0454 I am more sure
that it is RS. Only this is close enough to that, also geographically,
as in the RNA reference classaxe, previously logged: ``379 RUE
Russellville AR 25w 08Oct23 Tony reports it is mis-keying as 'RU' . .
. no E``

408 MCW kHz, Dec 10 at 0419, OJ? or maybe OLA? nothing even fuzzily
similar at RNA or DXinfocentre.

326 MCW kHz, Dec 10 at 0416, MA, no doubt about this ND beacon, 400
watts at Midland TX (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2220 monitoring: confirmed UT
Sunday December 10 at 0100 on WRMI 9955, S9+25 into Missouri SDR.

Also confirmed UT Sunday December 10 at 0551-0557 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM,
MO, S9+18, so the nominal 0415v started way late circa 0528. Overtime
HamSat ending at 0512 and into ARRL news which must have lasted ~16
minutes.

Also confirmed Sunday December 10 at 1138 the 1130 on WRMI 9955, S9+30
with no jamming audible. Next:

2100 UT Sunday IRRS 1323 & 918? & 207?-Italy

0400vUT Monday WBCQ Area 51 6160v to WSW

** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Saturday Dec 9 at 1756, LRA36 already
underway with talk into Argentine SDR. Too much else going on Saturday
afternoons to pay much attn to it, starting with Met Opera new season
at 1800, vs Talking Machine Show on WWCR 12160. Rechex find LRA36
still going at 1928, 1957, 2056 at S7, 2158 S5, 2217. And still at
0012 UT Dec 10 ID with frequency; 0039 still when I check direct: a
trace (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6000, Dec 9 at 0438, NO signal from RHC English, and then
unfound on any other known frequency on 6, 9, 11 or 15 MHz bands.
Something`s very2 wrong at RHC. 5025 Rebelde also missing, as often
but not always. However, 5910 China relay is blasting in. Next check
at 1630, music on 15140 // much weaker 11760 must be RHCs (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9440- & 9442+, Dec 9 at 2212, no signals from R. Cairo into
UTwente; something`s egregious in Egypt (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960, Dec 9 at 2300, VOT English not off the air,
sufficient signal direct since the noise bursts have just about
stopped, for now? Fingers crossed. It`s my delayed napping hour, so
TRT has the honor of overlaying thru headphones any other household
distraxions, with the music breaks most appreciated while I couldn`t
say much about the talk subjects, after the first feature, `Captain`s
Log`. Accurate but incomplete English sked at s/off until IS starts at
2353.5 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. PS to my AAAWWW WBCQ log last time: later, circa 0148 UT Dec
9, Allan recommends for a blind listener, a SW radio with *knobs*,
like the ATS-909. On the contrary, direct frequency entry is a must
for finding anything, once they master the layout of the keypad! which
in fact the `909 also has (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Friday, S3/S5 into Argentine SDR in talk, 1816 music, 1820 IDs, more
chat. Off or fadeout by 1900 check. May be active other weekdays but
have not sought it; has regular multihour emissions on Saturdays
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Obrecht presenting his own music as publicized for 19-20 UT today via
Woofferton UK for Africa, such as Ghana and Madagascar. Believe it or
not, I`m getting him best via Maryland SDR, rather than several
checked from Iceland, Holland, Spain, Cyprus, Qatar [Kuwait are AWOL],

announcement; 1924 English but fading down, and just about out by 1930
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

check into UTwente, S9+25/35 but the badax is speaking about
something. 2353 outro theme for `Did You Know That`, and right into
s/off English schedule: all wrong times in UT+3 but called UTC,
current B23 frequencies. Don`t you believe it! 2355 ID plays one
sesquitime and chopoff uncovering the CCCCCCI from East Turkistan,
standard denunciation. Something`s always awry at Ankara (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

7490.

Dec 9 at 0057 checking NH SDR for WBCQs: 7489.957 with FKB, S4/S6;

what they will be talking about; size of TV screens, etc. How
shortwave was getting started in late 20s (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
