Glenn Hauser logs October 15, 2023  View Printable Version

Hauser
** BRAZIL. 3365.1, Oct 15 at 0017, JBA carrier direct. See previous
report of R. Cultura Araraquara special test definitely heard via
remote in Brasil on this offset frequency. Was to run until 0200;
recheck via Brasília at 0228, it`s off; to return nevermore? (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. 11820, UT Sun Oct 15 at 0023, Chinese opera, S9+10/20. Don`t
understand a word or note but nice to listen to for a while till
fading by 0040 to S7/8. I sure thought it was Mandarin, but listed as
CRI Cantonese this hour only to SE Asia from Xianyang 59 site (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 5990, Oct 15 at 0046, dead air with some hum at S9+30/40 from
CRI relay; then, bits of mod trying to break thru: wiggle that
patchcord! Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. 6000, Oct 15 at 0047, dead air at S9+20/40 with some hum;
something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. Hardly Chinese opera, but when that fades I`d better
check for pirates on Saturday night: 6950-USB, Oct 15 at 0049, S8/S9
sounds like oldtimeradio drama; distracted by another on 6955-USB, so
tuning forth and back. At 0051, 6950 is talking about SCOTUS as if in
a documentary. 0104 in music. Meanwhile I switch to real music on
Encore, 5850 WRMI, missing first few minutes. 0154 recheck, both
pirates off.
Many more reports of this as Zeeky Radio:

https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,119455.0.html?PHPSESSID=6hp79h89693npsmd8sb74umf67
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6955-USB, Oct 15 at 0050, right next to another
pirate on 6950, music I would call ``trance``; 0056 cut to SSTV which
presumably contained an ID but not for me; 0057 back to music; 0103
announcement maybe attempt at ID but all I catch is ``listening to
me``. And over to WRMI 5850 for Encore. 0154 recheck, both pirates
off. Many more logs with SSTV images, but unID:

https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,119459.0.html?PHPSESSID=6hp79h89693npsmd8sb74umf67
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SAUDI ARABIA. 11860, Oct 15 at 0040, huge loud hum, S7/8, obviously
the Republic of Yemen Radio transmitter which has been thus for
months; cannot hear any Cuban jamming against nothing under it. They
must be totally incompetent at site, but which? Aoki says Jeddah, EiBi
says Riyadh, HFCC says nothing, WRTH UD says Riyadh: the winner.
Perhaps Ed, the American ``navydude`` DXer who lives there, could clue
them in (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 365 MCW kHz, Oct 15 at 0650, JBA non-Canadian beacon, or two
mixing, hard to differentiate, but I think I hear AA, which is 100
watts from Fargo/Harwood ND; heard before, last Feb 22. Many other
tantalizing NDB carriers vs the high line noise level (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. UT Aug 27, 2023 at 00-01 on WRMI 5950, Texas Radio Shortwave
presented recordings off WRNO air by Mick Delmage, Alberta of two
WORLD OF RADIO editions from 1986, #322 and #342 - almost complete,
the second one slightly short for time. Many thanks to Terry Colgan
for this recognition. A few weeks later, TRSW suddenly suspended
operations. I hope Terry is OK. Now available this nostalgia as
broadcast on WRMI:
https://www.w4uvh.net/TRSWWOR1986.mp3
A special QSL was offered, but should not be requested now from
listening to this. It may be viewed however at:
https://www.w4uvh.net/TRSW_World_of_Radio_QSL_WRMI_Hauser.pdf
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2212 monitoring: confirmed UT
Sunday October 15 at 0000 on WRMI 9955, S5/S7 into Bonaire SDR with
some noise, maybe jamming.

Also confirmed UT Sunday October 15 at 0317 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO,
about 8 minutes into so started early circa 0309. Next:

necessarily, via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com

Or MO, check on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5050, Oct 15 at 0019, no signal from WRMI; still off at
0200, but rock music on 9455. Aoki shows 5050 at 22-04 with Legends,
EiBi at 01-04. WRMI Legends blox are more convoluted also involving
9395. Aoki has also failed to delete long-defunct WWRB from 5050
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5085, UT Sun Oct 15 at 0019, no signal from WTWW; I guess it
be irregular, not always starting at 2300 or even 0000. Next check
0200 it`s on, Biermann ID as Ancient Word Radio -- another AWR! and
Truth2Ponder saying next week expects to add live services from the
little church he founded in SW VA, and repeat in evening. Evidently
will mean reactivating 9475 at least on Sunday mornings (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

Hauser
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Sat Oct 14 at 1853, LRA36 is on, S3/S5
into Argentine SDR; 1900 credit Eduardo calling from Spain; 1903 a
museum at Marambio Base; 1908 multilingual RAE ID; off already at next
check 2208. But 2308 recheck, on again, with multi-tones interrupting
song, or part of it? Rather seems to be QRM, deliberate, repeatedly.
Problem at SDR -- same wideband thing every 2.5 MHz or so from 0 to 30
MHz on H2Ofall! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** BRAZIL. 3365.10, Oct 13 at 2312, JBA algo into Argentine SDR, could
be R. Cultura Araraquara, following this tip via Paul Flanagan, BDXC
which I passed on to the WOR iog:

``From DX FANZINE: "Very interesting breaking news from Brazil. From
21 to 02 UTC this evening Radio Cultura Araraquara will make a
transmission attempt on 3365 kHz with the apology of the eclipse
experimentation. Looks like the actually intention is to check if the
transmitter, which has been turned off for a while, is still working.
It’s worth checking if it’s true and if it happens."``

3365.077, much better S7/9+5 when I can get onto Brasília SDR, 2316
song; 2319 sounds like jingle ID but uncopied, another song. 2326
frenetic announcement maybe included ID. 2328 more of that, 2329
``Cultura FM``, ads with lots of phone numbers, finally mentions ``em
Araraquara`` - hardly ``cultural``, IMHO. Some more explicit IDs to
2339 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** JAPAN. 6115, Oct 13 at 0640, strange music sort of chanting, not
expected from R. Nikkei, but it`s too late for Congo; and 0700 in
Japanese; better signal direct than the other Nikkei on 6055. Date
correct, omitted from previous report (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Sat Oct 14 at 2029, REE outro for `Amigos de la Onda
Corta`, media- if not DX-program. Must be at 2005 or so, VG direct
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.009, Oct 14 at 2227, VOT English is not off the air,
VG S9+45 into UTwente, with `Gripping Piles`, something patronized by
Recep. No time to listen more, but still on at 2300 opening German to
chopoff at 2301* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 26110 FM, Oct 14 at 1514, discussion of beetlenut squash
between complete fadeouts, no doubt KMK282, Stockton/Sacramento CA
with studio feed from KOVR or KMAX TVs.

CA 10m beacons are also in as recently logged: 28300 K6FRC, and 28244
WA6APQ; among others (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 28243 CW, Oct 14 at 2007. dash and VVV DE AA1SU/B. WI5V
roster: ``28.243 AA1SU C ESSEX JUNCTION, VERMONT # 5W, DIPOLE OTA
after 5 yrs off 13 Dec 2022`` -- that can mean two polar opposites.
QRZ.com:
AA1SU/B USA flag USA
PAUL N GAYET, 11 CHERRY STREET, ESSEX JUNCTION, VT 05452 -- but
nothing about his beacon. Many others audible now (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2212 monitoring: confirmed UT
Saturday October 14 at 0130 on WRMI 5850, S9/+30 direct, and still not
on 7730 // as WRMI sked keeps claiming.

Also confirmed Saturday October 14 at 1645 the NEW 1630 on WRMI 15770,
good into BSR1 caradio on eclipse expedition.

Also confirmed from 1935 the 1930v on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, S7/S9 into
nearby SDR. Next:

0000 UT Sunday WRMI 9955 to SSE [NEW; also web-, phonecast; jammed?]

** U S A. No luck on daytime MWDX during the Eclipse, 1620-1640 UT Oct
14. Drove NW of Enid but could not get far enough to escape horrible
line noise. Would have required advance scouting even further for
quietude. At least we saw the bite projected thru a pinhole (Glenn

** CHINA. 13530 & 14920, Oct 13 at 1457, CNR1 music jamming Sound of
Hope, S8/S9 just before 1500*; while two other obvious ones, 13020 &
15920 are JBA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** GERMANY. 15690.035, Oct 13 at 1500, bandscan direct hits an obvious
frequency deviation, estimated 15690.04, talk with no break at
hourtop. 1520 checking via UTwente with more precise measurement as
above with ME music. It`s R. Farda, American clandestine for Iran,
listed as Biblis site, a USAGM one often askew. No break at real
hourtop, since Iran imagines it`s hourbottom (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Fri Oct 13 after 2200, token English from SNR, VG
into Bonaire SDR, and just as good on 15520 for ME; After news,
2208-2211 report from Beirut, Lebanon correspondent summarizing what
we already know about the Hamas/Israel war. 2212 interview prof from
DePaul University, Chicago about the situation, criticizing Spain`s
government for not denouncing Hamas, unlike other western nations
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.009, Oct 13 after 2200, VOT English not off the air;
in fact VG signal S9+40/45 into UTwente and VG modulation for a
change. 2216-2220 `Review of the Turkish Press`, also about Topic A;
music; later, `Weekly Analysis` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U A E. 15310.118, Oct 13 at 1503, JBA carrier direct, way
off-frequency, first estimated at 15310.13, then displayed by UTwente
as above; calibration of that checked vs WWV 20000 reads only 1 Hz
high. At UTwente can hear it`s Arabic. EiBi shows BBC this semihour
only, the token revival for Sudan after cancelling all Arabic earlier.
DHA site is really sloppy in frequency accuracy, reflecting poorly on
its clients (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 28216.5, Oct 13 at 1832, dash, ID ID ID N7MA repeated. Was
there a /B? I didn`t note it. WI5V roster:

MARK T AVAKIAN, 24443 E DOYLE RD, CATALDO, ID 83810, USA

``My 10 Meter Propogation Beacon at Rose Lake transmits on 28.2165 MHz
at 5 watts. It's pretty much always on with a couple of deep cycle
batteries for power. The transmitter is an old Realistic HTX-100. The
antenna is an A-99 vertical. The keyer is an ID-O-Matic by N0XAS. The
receiver in the HTX-100 smoked, literally, years ago but the
transmitter just keeps on going. I have a small fan in back of the
radio to keep things a little cool. For me part of the fun of having
the beacon is playing with antennas. So far it's had a loop, dipole,
and verticals 8', 17', 31' and 120' long. Bill, WJ5O is sort of the
USA Beacon Guru. His website has everything you've ever wanted to know
about beacons and then some. http://www.qsl.net/wj5o/
I really like knowing if the beacon is getting out and to where, so
please drop me a email or QSL if you happen to hear it`` (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 28230.8, Oct 13 at 1835, EEEEEEE NG7I/B --- WI5V roster:

6 Dec 2021 -- QRZ.com:

NG7I USA flag USA
PATRICK C PADGETT, 704 S Washington St., Ritzville, WA 99169 USA

to a Hy-Gain Penetrator 500 at 20'. Send me a QSL and I'll send you
one back. No need for an SASE or anything like that.`` (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. 28249, Oct 13 at 1841, EEEEE KA34JOE/B CN --- WI5V roster:
28.2495 KA3JOE I BENSALEM, PENNSYLVANIA # 10W, DIPOLE relocated
formally W3ATV 28 Aug 10. --- QRZ.com:

KA3JOE USA flag USA
Joseph W Ciesielski, 1176 Poquessing Avenue, Bensalem, PA 19020 USA

``The KA3JOE beacon operates continuously on a frequency of 28.248.7
Mhz, at a power level of 5 watts. The transmitter is an HTX-10 fed
into a half wave vertical at a height of 10 meters. I would perfer a
good, old fashioned, tree killing, non-electronic QSL, SASE to my QRZ
address, but I will also respond with an email promptly. It's more fun
to receive QSL Cards in the regular mail.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2212 monitoring: confirmed Friday
October 13 at 2046 the 2030 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1323 kHz,
S9+10/12 into nearby Noale SDR; and NO QRM: Romania, Iran, England
must all be off.

Also confirmed Friday October 13 at 2200 on WRMI 9955, fair into
Bonaire SDR and also considerable Cuban pulse jamming, not enough to
block understanding if you put up with it. Tnx a lot! Next:

via WBCQ-6 is OFF the air. Wonder what`s wrong now. See UZBEKISTAN
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5085, Oct 13 circa 2305, WTWW not on air, but is upon next
check 2320, apparently another late start (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** UZBEKISTAN. 9329.930, Oct 13 at 1523, gospel music at S9+15 into
UTwente; I`m checking how WLCR via WBCQ is making it to Europe.
Incredibly this is way off-frequency. In fact, local check finds WBCQ
OFF, nothing else audible here. But UTw: 1527 Korean announcement.
EiBi shows clandestine CMI V of Wilderness, via Tashkent. WRTH shows
religious, by Cornerstone Ministries. Off at 1529* and still no WBCQ.
When both be on, must be quite a collision in Europe if not Korea
