sequence``. But NO listing at QRZ.com with or without the /B. This
hardly ever happens, but it is optional, non-official, after all. And

** EGYPT. 9440, Jan 3 at 2143, no signal from R. Cairo sesquihour in
English; something`s egregious in Egypt (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MADAGASCAR. 11610, Jan 2 at 2316, S9+20/30 of dead air: yet again
MWV fails to turn off at 2258* after Arabic. Something`s maladjusted
at Mahajanga (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. 660, Jan 3 until 0711, song ``Gloria`` in English, nice to
hear after a long time; ID as ``Esto es ABC Deportes``, and another
song in English, ``Can`t Help Falling In Love With You``, hardly
sports in Spanish as branded! Fades down with a 2.5 Hz SAH =
150/minute. 0725 a song in Spanish, may or may not be same station,
then ``Killing Me Softly``. 0732 fuller ID with AM and FM frequencies
but could not copy them. IRCA Mexican Log shows the only 660 by that
name is XEFZ, Monterrey NL, supposedly off the air after 0600, 10/1
kW. MWoffsets shows XEFZ on 659.9981 as of 2019y. KSKY TX and KTNN AZ
both on 660.0002 as of 2023, i.e. 2.1 Hz away from XEFZ. BTW there are
no XEs at all on 670, 680. This was on a household radio with internal
antenna only, positioned to null E/W (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Wed Jan 3 at 2300, token English from SNR: after news,
interview with creator of an animated film with music but no dialog;

AWOL; altho did not get around to checking later in hour or via
remotes.

** ANDORRA [non]. Re 7540, R. Andorra via ARMENIA, with unknown QRM,
Dec 31, Wolfgang Bueschel suggests: ``There is a 2nd signal (jammer?)
on fqy - some BUZZY 57 Hertz on lower sideband of 7540 kHz, in
excellent PERSEUS SDR one could hear terrible music audio tone
quality. Reminds me on similar music transmission via Gavar Yerevan
for DSWCI and RMRClubs some 5-10 years back, with bad results.
Undoubtedly I HEARD a CO-CHANNEL signal on 7539.943 kHz tonight at
21.00-21.30 UT time slot, so US AGM monitoring had this to log at
Seoul KOR embassy file in the 30 mins schedule:

The interfering stn on 7539.943 kHz left the air - around 21.30 UTC.
Tashkent on co-ch schedule 21.00-21.30 UT ??? wb. 73 wolfie`` Of

** BRAZIL. 11780, Jan 1 at 0230, RNA is off the air as usual, circa
0200* instead of nominal 0300 UT = local midnight, depriving us of any
ZYNY celebrations. It`s not because of summer DST, because that`s no
longer observed. What else? 4985 RBC is S4/S5, unusable; 9665v &
11750v RVM would normally be sufficient, but not tonight, VP with
propagation disturbance, not only direct, but none any better into

** CUBA. 6000, Jan 1 at 0414, RHC suptorted and also breaking up in
apparent English, S9+30/40. Wiggle that patchcord! This time no +/- 10
parasitic spurs. A great way to celebrate anniversary of The failed

** ECUADOR. 6050, Mon Jan 1 at 0401, no signal from HCJB an hour
before 2024y, still missing for at least a sesquiweek. Normal sked was
until 0235* except extended to 0500* on UT Sun & Mon. EiBi has it

** NORTH AMERICA. 11514.9, Jan 1 at 2326, JBA carrier, no doubt the
signature of Hikari FM, pirate in Arizona or Sonora; he really needs
more power than a dekawatt (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Dec 31 at 2258 tune-in to REE, huge excitement in NY
celebration, campanas at 2300 as 2024y arives; no doubt live relay of
domestic network, and REE does not cut off at 2300, the regular Sunday
closing time. By 2302 it`s back to studio DJs for variety of music for
the occasion, unknown for how much prolonged (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Mon Jan 1 at 2300, back to usual token English from
SNR M/W/F. No news happens on a holiday, so soon into interview with
author of a book about Uruguayan rugby players plane crash in the
Andes, now a movie released by Netflix Jan 4; after we still hear
taped but retired Justin Coe with contact info including whatsapp.
BTW, I don`t subscribe to Netflix or any other premium
video/streaming. Already I have not enough time to digest all the
other, ``free`` media (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960.005, Jan 1 at 2305, VOT is not off, S9+10/20 direct
but still too noisy for pleasant listening. Into UTwente, S9+35 at
s/off 2353 with all-wrong +3h schedule, 2355 IS once and off
uncovering Chinese from XJPBS, std denunciation. VOT is usually
varying a few centiHertz below .005, but today above. Meanwhile I`m
munching on some Dried Mediterranean Apricots, product of Turkiye, via
ALDI Gold Emblem brand, well within 2-year shelflife (Glenn Hauser,

** U K [non]. 11825, Dec 31 at 2359, BBC via PHILIPPINES is JBA but we
can hear BigBen chimes as 2024y arrives by GMT; chops off air at

Reception of the 23-24 relay is normally much better but there has
been a propagation disturbance. And because of this we did not get to
hear WWV at 0000, so made do with 0001 January 1, 2024 (Glenn Hauser,

usually check for 9/kHz TAs this early, even before LSS today at 2327.
Wonder if the 2-megawatt Sa`udi supposedly to 2230* be on later?
Nothing else of note in perfunctory bandscan, nor anything of
significant power in Eu/Af/ME on MWlist. But then there is that 500 kW
of CRI Russian from Hutubi, Asia = near Urumqi, EAST TURKISTAN, std
denunciation, but its sked supposedly only 00-02 & 11-20, on early?
LSR at Urumqi today 0144, so its morning broadcast should be quite
possible into much of North America (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED [non]. Long ago, NYE as well as Xmas eve were prime times
for special broadcasts from tropical stations -- on later than usual
or all-night; even temporary reactivations for the holidays. But not
any more. Jan 1 at 0234 I bandscan the entire 120, 90 and 60m bands
without encountering anything unusual - indeed, hardly anything at
all, as what few stations remain are more likely to take time OFF than
on, notably 4885 R. Clube do Pará, which has been gone since before
Xmas, and we can only hope that`s temporary (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

ARMENIA is good into UTwente with big band music. 2100+, `Blue Suede
Shoes``, really Elvis? More rock, some in French, like a ``Mambo``
song at 2115. But rather distorted, bad for music, also hum and CCI
undercurrent altho nothing else sked except in EiBi, irr. Brazilian
pirate R. Alpha Centauri, 24h, surely not. Andorra sked until 2400
with a power boost at 2200 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, further monitoring of LRA36, UT Dec
31: still at 0118, S9/+15 into Argentine remote; not recheck until
0258 when it`s off or outfaded. Walt Salmaniw says it went off at
0206* in mid-sentence. Ron Howard says power is 300 watts with a
rhombic antenna, they told Ralph Perry. I guess it`s aimed northish so
we get some gain out of that (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** BRAZIL. 4885, Dec 31 at 0338, R. Clube do Pará is still off. All we
get is a JBA carrier from 4985 RBC vs the RTTY plus. WRTH 2024 lists
four other 60m ZYs so possibly active tho rarely reported, on 4875,
4885, 4905, 5035 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 4765, Dec 31 at 0338, R. Progreso is off, despite its already
limited sked of 0130-0500; and 5025, Rebelde continues off.
Somethings` very wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** DENMARK. 243 kHz, Dec 31 at 1615, DR Kalundborg is VG into UTwente,
for last minutes on the air; special programming but all in Danish,
now a scratchy old recording of something. 1659 woman speaking, the
queen to finalize it. Punxuated by rustling sounds, flipping pages of
her script? 1713 crowd applause, and national anthem for only about
one minute; military commands; 1715 YL announcer seems upset, or is
that the Q again. Talking about a pianist, composition. 1716 piano
plays, is that starting with the interval signal? 1719 still on,
switching to violin. Pauses and more music, wide variety of different
instruments, variations on the IS. Long pauses between iterations, so
we never know which will be the final note forever.

Certainly not all about the LW transmitter closing, but maybe She
mentioned it. BTW, She`s abdicating as of Jan 14. Translation of the
speech itself pending.

UTwente displays a synchlock on 242999.75 Hz, with the last digit
plus/minus 1, i.e. extremely stable. 1735 finally stops, and carrier
cut about 1735.7* UT. Someone probably timed it to the exact second
without internet delay: Harald Kuhl says 1735:45*. Now some splatter
from adjacent frequency 252 Algeria is audiblized. Goodbye, Denmark!
BTW, I have never had a trace direct of any AfroEurAsian LWBC, even
the superpowers, yet I have heard 25-watt LW beacons at hundreds of
km. WRTH 2024 shows 243 was down to only 50 kW (Glenn Hauser, OK,

** PUERTO RICO. 391 MCW kHz, Dec 31 at 0418 UT, DDP, 1 or 2-kW NDB at
San Juan/Dorado, again at 3677 km = 2284 stmi. Must be alert for 369

** U S A. 353 MCW kHz, Dec 31 at 0417 UT, LI, 400-watt NDB at Little
Rock AR (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, S9+20 into nearby SDR and well audible direct.
This time the Houston AMSAT net from nom. 0300 ran until 0513, then 12
minutes of ARRL news from Friday.

** U S A. 5085: George McClintock called Dec 31 with the latest from
WTWW: from my hastily scribbled notes: running 60 kW on 23-05 UT
nominal schedule. There was a frozen tuning cap on the #1 [other]
transmitter. The ex-Continental engineer ran out of time, needs to
come back for another day in 2024, when #1 could run 90 kW. Also plans
to work on a Harris transmitter. KTWR Guam engineer is currently
visiting Nashville two blox from George to look after someone. KVOH
let the Harris they got melt down and disposed as scrap. WTWW has two
transmitters from KNLS; might could put one of them for sale on EBay.
Sale of property is stalled but still available. Antenna for #3
transmitter is axually on adjacent property, feedline OK. Feedlines
for 1 and 2 are sagging, need to be pulled up out of reach for safety.
Has potential client for 9475 but can`t get it to run more than 10 kW
yet (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1580, Dec 31 at 0404 UT, Mexmx is dominant. Onceuponatime
the obvious source would have been 50 kW clear channel XEDM
Hermosillo, Sonora. This loops NW/SE, so all of Mexico is outruled,
and most likely TX or CO. Per NRC AM Log, all the USSS on 1580 are
also religious, in wrong direxion, or too far -- except KFCS Colorado
Springs. Segués of tune after tune, some romantic; finally 0415 quick
talk, mentions buena? So a Ke Buena? 0425 another. No, this is `El
Tigre` but sub-slogan on website is ``La que toca puras buenas``.
10000/140 watts both ND but this is no mere 140 watts, surely stuck on
10 kW day power. Site is SSE of CS between Security-Widefield, and

colliding in Chinese, partly with music. It`s RFA Mandarin via TINIAN
and CNR1 jamming at 16-19 per EiBi (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6000, Dec 30 at 0722, RHC still on, S9+25/30 but just barely
modulated in English --- AND flanked by much weaker parasitic spurs
plus and minus 10 kHz with their own fading, circa S6/S7 on 5990,
S4/S5 on 6010, the upper not to be confused with slightly
off-frequency Brasil. This explains my unID 5990 carrier Dec 15 at
0458, when 6000 was also on but did not notice then a 6010 match. Must
be the transmitter once on 11850 in the tardes, always also flanked by
weak parasites on 11840 & 11860 -- and before that same except all 10
kHz higher. Recently, Wolfgang Bueschel also found such a triad 1 Hz
below 15220/15230/15240 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ETHIOPIA [non]. 15710.1, Dec 30 at 1617, S8/9+5 of algo talk, no
doubt the Saturday-only Moresh Voice of Amhara clandestine via RMI via
defective Issoudun, FRANCE transmitter, tho still missing from WRMI
website. It does show another one daily except Sundays at 1600-1630 on
17685, Amhara Radio International, but I didn`t check that in time

** NORTH AMERICA. 11514.9, Dec 30 at 1620, algo JBA direct, as we now
know is pirate Hikari FM from Arizona or Sonora. Not bad, of course,
if only 10 watts. He may be running this long hours, all day? Still

** OKLAHOMA. 90.1, KUCO FM, strange stuff, early Saturday Dec 30 which
I often check late and overnight when I`m awake: at 0655 UT, sounds
like ambient `space music`! So instead of usual `Overnights with Peter
Van De Graaf` syndicated from Chicago, is `Music from the Hearts of
Space` running later than scheduled 05-06 UT Sat?? No, soon outro for
`Beyond the Barrier`, but to continue for another hour on some
stations, which it does here after 0700! Another check at 1000, still
no PVDG but instead the video game music show, which is no longer on
the KUCO sked anywhen. I can`t remember the exact title and now can
find it nowhere, not even at publicradiofan.com

Fusion` from WCNY has vanished, the show by a colleague of Marie Lamb.

12-13 UT, when I was asleep, rather than the time I really heard it.
Was KUCO automation totally off-timed?! Looks like `MFTHOS` has

BTW, last Saturday, KUCO dumped out of `Tannhäuser` from The Met, long
before the ~4.5 hour opera was really over, maybe fooled by an
intermission. I wasn`t trying to listen to it straight thru, but did
notice Lane Whitesell`s post-Met fill music show was already running
by 2130? UT; after quite a while, limped abruptly back to Met. Also,
once last week they couldn`t remember what day it was, instead playing
one of their own `Day to Remember` episodes a week old instead of

** OKLAHOMA. After noticing DTV signals from Tulsa area in with a
tropo boost, I scan FM on caradio and as expected, that market`s FMs
are also in solid on several frequencies, notably 92.9, but at 1840 UT
Dec 30 I hear a new? call in passing, KRQD, then Tulsa adstring. FCC
FM Query shows ex-KBEZ but no call change date. Axually it happened at
``midnight`` [before or after?] Labor Day Sept 4, 2023 as explained

Another new? twist, at 1859 UT, 106.1 ID as Twister and inviting
requests via app. That`s KTGX Owasso. I still miss classical KCMA
onceuponatime on 106.1. That went away in 1994y per glimpse of a Tulsa
World story before its paywall blox. Same frequency, but must be a
different Facility as FCC FM Query does not show KCMA calls as
predecessor to KTGX, rather KQLL in 1990-2009y (Glenn Hauser, Enid,

** OKLAHOMA. APRS map shows some area tropo enhancement morning of Dec
30, but do not get around to DTV bandscan until 1827 UT, when there
are several BAD signals, and one decoding nicely, RF26 with CBS
sports, i.e. KOTV 6-1, along with KQCW-SD on 6-2, News on 6 on 6-3.
But not for long. Rabbitears.info shows same trio also on RF19 and
RF30, neither making it now -- only 1 kW ERP and nowhere near Tulsa,
rather McAlester OK and Caney KS - but not separate calls? (Glenn
