Glenn Hauser logs November 10-11, 2023  View Printable Version

Hauser
** CHINA. 10000, Nov 11 at 0058, checking calibration of the NH
KiwiSDR, timepips neither WWV nor WWVH but almost in synch with them
way under. What`s this? 0059, BPM ID multiple times in Morse code, and
two voice announcements in Chinese just before 0100. WRTH shows
location Pucheng, not Beijing, 24h with 20 kW, also on 2500, 5000,
15000 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** COLOMBIA [and non]. 5910, Nov 10 at 0432, S9+40/50 of dead air with
some hum. Oh2, CRI relay via CUBA at 03-05 is back here for B-season,
ex-9790, obliterating Colombia`s only? SW station, Alcaraván Radio,
during a bihour of primetime. How rude. But it`s JBA underneath as
long as no mod from C/C, and slightly better with LSB tuning since
it`s more like 5909.96 - no het
audible. HJDH would be better off on 6010, but not completely; altho
6010 has Brasil, but NOT XEOI which Aoki still lists despite gone for
multiple years!

HFCC shows CRI 250 kW at 305 degrees thisaway in Eng and Yue, in
B-season use for many years; only other 5910 is !IRDR! = standby but
no disaster has ever? occurred meriting activation for relief! on this
or any other reserved frequency in each band. Available 24/7 to all 85
CIRAF zones, placeholder SMG Vatican site with 100 kW (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 5800, Nov 10 at 0431, pulse jamming vs nothing. WRMI ruined
this frequency forever by briefly putting R. República on it several
months ago. WRMI hours are now 22-04 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6000, Nov 10 at 0433, RHC with S9+30/40 of dead air except
maybe a trace of modulation. Nothing audible on X2 = 12000.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9440, Nov 10 at 2117, R. Cairo at S9/+10 direct but JBM
music. By 2133 a bit better into Italian SDR, S9+20/30 in distorted
English, about ``around the world``. Something`s egregious in Egypt
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** JAPAN [non]. 6150, Nov 10 at 0434, Japanese, S9+20/30, mentions
``NHK`` pronounced as in English since JJ has no letters! HFCC shows
03-05, 250 kW, 140 degrees from Issoudun, FRANCE toward CIRAFs 37-39 =
Spain, across N Africa to Arabia and Turkey.

Stays on 6105 in Japanese at 02-04 via ISS at 290 degrees for CIRAFs
10-11, Mexico, C America, Caribbean but also hitting much of N
America. So, are there more Japanese speakers with SW in those zones
than English further north? Hardly (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 255 MCW kHz, Nov 10 at 0438 UT, ND beacon SW is JBA. Sad
situation when this nearby Stillwater becomes DX vs OG&E`s line noise
level, worst on LW but extending to 25+ MHz. Four days later I am
still waiting for any response to my latest complaint Nov 6 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Fri Nov 10 at 2300, VG direct, token English from SNR,
still opens with B23 schedule but no language details, inviting
listener contact, no news and soon interview about a 300-piece art
exhibition from the Americas, Alaska to the southern tip; but sorely
lacking any visual content, this being SW, unlike lots of pirates, or
Radiograms, which manage somehow (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960.002, Nov 10 at 2300, VOT is JBA to DX-398 portable but
at 2323, S9+20/30 into R75, something about Gaza; 2355 IS playing,
S9+25/35 into UTwente where measured; 2356 restart IS with IDs in
German; 2400 timesignal and s/on extraneous German, news until chopoff
at 2413* again, uncovering the CCCCCCI which was always an
understation. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. 26110 FM, Nov 10 at 1625 UT, KMK282 at KOVR/KMAX fades up
briefly in report about prospects for ski areas opening; never
reaching full quieting (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2216 monitoring: add (Tunisia) to
contents. Confirmed Friday November 10 at 2130 on IRRS SW via AM
Italia, 1323 kHz only, still not on 918 or 207, ever? S9+10/20 into
nearby Noale SDR but with considerable pop music CCI. Certainly not
Iran nor 30 watts in UK, per MWlist leaving only this on extended
schedule; unless an unlisted pirate, unlikely:

// 5130+ which stays with T****, and 6160- which stays with some
gospel huxter, and 3265+ not on the air; and 9330.00 stays of course

UNSOLICITED TESTIMONIALS

``Reception report --- Hello Mr. Hauser,I just finished listening to
your World of Radio program on 9395 kHz on WRMI on November 7 at 0030
UTC. The program was very interesting and I enjoyed it very much.

I listened regularly to shortwave radio as a teenager in the 1970s. My
favourite program was the Sunday show on Radio Nederlands. After a
long break, I recently purchased a Tecsun PL880 and began listening
again. Thank God for WRMI.

I am located in Dundas, Ontario about 60 km west of Toronto. We live
in a 6th floor condo and I drop a 50' antenna off our balcony. Your
program came through very strongly with little interference or
fading.

Thanks for keeping shortwave alive. Howard Williamson``

Hauser Update  View Printable Version
Thursday, November 09 2023

Hauser
** MALI. 15125, Nov 8 at 1624, algo talk at S6/S8, best
extracontinental signal on 19mb which is mostly vacant. EiBi shows CRI
Arabic via Bamako to east Africa. Did not strike me as Arabic, maybe
dialectical? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. FM DX report Nov 7 under USA includes some OKitems

** OKLAHOMA. RF 17, K17JN-D, Enid`s only local TV signal, Nov 8 at
0611 UT, is back! After exactly a month, since Oct 7 of wasted watts
transmitting nothing but dead sound and black video on all subchannels
- except for a brief break totally off the air. It was still so,
checked a few hours earlier on Nov 7. But the lineup has changed:

17-1, K17JN-D, 3ABN main channel
17-2, & 17-3, skipped! nothing
17-4, 3ABN-ES = Spanish
17-5 & 17-6 & 17-7, skipped! nothing
17-8, AUDIO ONLY: 3ABN-RD - which means what?
17-9, AUDIO ONLY: 3ABN-RL - which means what?
17-10, AUDIO ONLY: Radio 74

I gather that virtual channel numbers displayed do not always match up
with `real` channels, why? Previously, one of the AUDIO ONLY channels
was always silent! Radio 74 network is also on 89.3 KIEL Loyal OK 3.8
kW south of Enid, semi-local but ACI from 89.1 Enid translator.

Here is how it shows at

https://www.rabbitears.info/market.php?request=station_search&callsign=k17jn-d
before they get this updated info from me; strangely it`s filed under
Market #50, OKC, altho no one there is going to be able to see it. A
100-watt transmitter with enough gain to reach 15 kW ERP in max lobe:

``Display Channel Physical Channel Video Audio Call Sign

But the site is WNW of Enid which means major lobe misses most of the
city headed toward Kremlin. Site is between N/S roads Imo and SH 132;
just north of US 412, between E/W: East 410 Rd and East 420 Rd -
designations I don`t recall ever seeing on road signs. That tower
probably hosts several other stations. Yes, as here, but only the 88.7
and 89.1 translators and the non-existent 19-1 K32MG-D:
https://www.rabbitears.info/tower.php?request=site&asrn=1011491
(Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Wed Nov 8 at 2300, token English from SNR still starts
uttering basic B23 schedule with no language details, not even
English, now a sesquiweek after effective Oct 29. After news,
2309-2319 first feature of interest is about the whistling language of
the Canary Islands, Sr. Romero talking about it as Quintana translates
- from Spanish, not whistlish. Too few examples of how it really
sounds. Reception sufficient but some deep fades, direct into DX-398
with a few meters of clip-on antenna (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960, VOT extra German cutoff time in last report should
have read 2412.5* not 2312.5*, i.e. -0012.5* Nov 8.

Also, one sked version says 7285 is correct for 2130-2230 English, and
also at 0400-0500. But HFCC still shows 9610 at 2130; which is it? I
check Nov 8 at 2200 into UTwente: nothing on 7285; 9610 with about
equal mixture of poor signals, one of which sounds like VOT English,
the other Chinese? Aoki shows CNR8 in Mongolian from Beijing 491 site,
and VOT English. 7285 would be better.

5960, here`s a new erroneous at Emirler! Via UTwente, S9+25/40, Nov 8
at 2346 amid Turkish music, brief announcement not in English; more
music, another very brief presumably Turkish announcement, music until
chopoff at 2356*. That`s the normal endtime for English. Uncovers the
CCCCCCI which has been underneath. Wrong program feed and no one
noticed. After 2300, only English is scheduled anywhere on SW, but
Turkish HS presumably runs 24h, supposed to be in a SW break per HFCC,
until 2200* on 6120, resuming at *0100 on 6000 (Glenn Hauser, WOR)

93.9 at 1841, Mexmx loud & clear unlike 93.7; at 1903, ``Show de
Andrés Gutiérrez; tema: dinero``, call-in, 805-YANOMAS, and a whatsapp
starting with 210, area code? Likely national show. (805) AC =
California: SLO, Ventura, Sta Bárbara counties; (210) if an AC would
be San Antonio TX. Only fit in quadri-state area:

Sutherland is just west of NP on I-80. Whence strange name Flat Rock?
A geographical feature? Wikipedia says it`s nickname for NP, used by
several businesses. Another one is Little Chicago. This and 94.9 above
are my max DX in this opening: 583/362

but twice as far from me as Wichita fringe, usually edged out by
closer 97.7 and 98.1 stations. That could be confusing for Es DX! So

DX still incoming but time to suspend for lunch. APRS map at 1930 does
not include Nebraska, beyond southern KS, and into north TX. Then car
required for its original purpose. This hour of FMDXing led to at
least 3 hours of research and compilation. Each DX log a potential
learning experience (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9440, Nov 7 at 2125, R. Cairo, S9+35 into UTwente talking
English about Egypt, overmodulated and distorted. Something`s amiss at
Abis, but at least there is: something. Entering 9440 into UTwente

back to SAM displays usual exact 9439.995 = axually slightly lower but
rounding closest to .995 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Nov 7 we have almost record-hi temps into the 80s, and APRS
map at 1630 UT shows huge tropo blobs over OK, KS, much of TX as I
finally start DTV tuning. Most of the ``open`` channels from 8 to 36
have at least a BAD signal, says the Zenith STB, and some of the
``local`` OKCs are BAD due to DX QRM: RF 13, 18, 24, 25, 27. Some
decodes:

RF 14 at 1634, 13-1 KERA-HD Dallas with KERA KIDS bug in LR.
Rabbitears shows also has 3 subchannels, but when I try to reach them,
STB goes to RF 13 OKC KETA 13 instead! No problem surpassing LP OKC on
RF14.

RF 20, 19-1 KQCW OK is decoding, not unusual with a bit of tropo

RF 35, 4-1 KDFW Dallas Fox4 decodes, but again STB goes to KFOR 4 OKC
on RF 27 when I try to reach the substations

RF 36, 39-1 KXTX decodes but next time I try 36, I get KUOK ``36``, RF
29 Shawnee OK, at 1812, as I head to the car for FMDX instead, and got
some from Nebraska to Texas, not yet compiled (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK,
WOR)
