Hauser

Please note and spread the word - for those not on a list where my almost-daily all-band but mainly SW log reports appear -- or for those who are but find this a more convenient archive, weekly merged roundups of all these reports in their original form are posted early every UT Thursday via:

http://www.worldofradio.com/Hauserlogs.html

The latest one direct:

Hauser Update  View Printable Version
Thursday, November 09 2023

Hauser
** MALI. 15125, Nov 8 at 1624, algo talk at S6/S8, best
extracontinental signal on 19mb which is mostly vacant. EiBi shows CRI
Arabic via Bamako to east Africa. Did not strike me as Arabic, maybe
dialectical? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. FM DX report Nov 7 under USA includes some OKitems

** OKLAHOMA. RF 17, K17JN-D, Enid`s only local TV signal, Nov 8 at
0611 UT, is back! After exactly a month, since Oct 7 of wasted watts
transmitting nothing but dead sound and black video on all subchannels
- except for a brief break totally off the air. It was still so,
checked a few hours earlier on Nov 7. But the lineup has changed:

17-1, K17JN-D, 3ABN main channel
17-2, & 17-3, skipped! nothing
17-4, 3ABN-ES = Spanish
17-5 & 17-6 & 17-7, skipped! nothing
17-8, AUDIO ONLY: 3ABN-RD - which means what?
17-9, AUDIO ONLY: 3ABN-RL - which means what?
17-10, AUDIO ONLY: Radio 74

I gather that virtual channel numbers displayed do not always match up
with `real` channels, why? Previously, one of the AUDIO ONLY channels
was always silent! Radio 74 network is also on 89.3 KIEL Loyal OK 3.8
kW south of Enid, semi-local but ACI from 89.1 Enid translator.

Here is how it shows at

https://www.rabbitears.info/market.php?request=station_search&callsign=k17jn-d
before they get this updated info from me; strangely it`s filed under
Market #50, OKC, altho no one there is going to be able to see it. A
100-watt transmitter with enough gain to reach 15 kW ERP in max lobe:

``Display Channel Physical Channel Video Audio Call Sign
Net/Programming 17-1 17.1 480i DD2.0 K17JN-D 3ABN

17-4 17.4 480i DD2.0 HopeCh1 LLBN

But the site is WNW of Enid which means major lobe misses most of the
city headed toward Kremlin. Site is between N/S roads Imo and SH 132;
just north of US 412, between E/W: East 410 Rd and East 420 Rd -
designations I don`t recall ever seeing on road signs. That tower
probably hosts several other stations. Yes, as here, but only the 88.7
and 89.1 translators and the non-existent 19-1 K32MG-D:
https://www.rabbitears.info/tower.php?request=site&asrn=1011491
(Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Wed Nov 8 at 2300, token English from SNR still starts
uttering basic B23 schedule with no language details, not even
English, now a sesquiweek after effective Oct 29. After news,
2309-2319 first feature of interest is about the whistling language of
the Canary Islands, Sr. Romero talking about it as Quintana translates
- from Spanish, not whistlish. Too few examples of how it really
sounds. Reception sufficient but some deep fades, direct into DX-398
with a few meters of clip-on antenna (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960, VOT extra German cutoff time in last report should
have read 2412.5* not 2312.5*, i.e. -0012.5* Nov 8.

Also, one sked version says 7285 is correct for 2130-2230 English, and
also at 0400-0500. But HFCC still shows 9610 at 2130; which is it? I
check Nov 8 at 2200 into UTwente: nothing on 7285; 9610 with about
equal mixture of poor signals, one of which sounds like VOT English,
the other Chinese? Aoki shows CNR8 in Mongolian from Beijing 491 site,
and VOT English. 7285 would be better.

5960, here`s a new erroneous at Emirler! Via UTwente, S9+25/40, Nov 8
at 2346 amid Turkish music, brief announcement not in English; more
music, another very brief presumably Turkish announcement, music until
chopoff at 2356*. That`s the normal endtime for English. Uncovers the
CCCCCCI which has been underneath. Wrong program feed and no one
noticed. After 2300, only English is scheduled anywhere on SW, but
Turkish HS presumably runs 24h, supposed to be in a SW break per HFCC,
until 2200* on 6120, resuming at *0100 on 6000 (Glenn Hauser, WOR)

** U S A. After DTV tropo DX from The Metroplex, as in last report, I
switch to FM DX into the garaged caradio, 2004 Nissan stock, no RDS,
fender vertical antenna only, Nov 7 from 1825, including some non-DX
notes about calls and slogans; with listings from WTFDA FMDB; numbers
before lat. and long. are kW ERP, same H&V u.o.s. in one case; and
meters height above average terrain. Distances approx., city-to-city

not include Nebraska, beyond southern KS, and into north TX. Then car

least 3 hours of research and compilation. Each DX log a potential
learning experience (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR)

** U S A. Nov 7 we have almost record-hi temps into the 80s, and APRS
map at 1630 UT shows huge tropo blobs over OK, KS, much of TX as I
finally start DTV tuning. Most of the ``open`` channels from 8 to 36
have at least a BAD signal, says the Zenith STB, and some of the
``local`` OKCs are BAD due to DX QRM: RF 13, 18, 24, 25, 27. Some
decodes:

RF 14 at 1634, 13-1 KERA-HD Dallas with KERA KIDS bug in LR.
Rabbitears shows also has 3 subchannels, but when I try to reach them,
STB goes to RF 13 OKC KETA 13 instead! No problem surpassing LP OKC on
RF14.

RF 20, 19-1 KQCW OK is decoding, not unusual with a bit of tropo

RF 35, 4-1 KDFW Dallas Fox4 decodes, but again STB goes to KFOR 4 OKC
on RF 27 when I try to reach the substations

RF 36, 39-1 KXTX decodes but next time I try 36, I get KUOK ``36``, RF
29 Shawnee OK, at 1812, as I head to the car for FMDX instead, and got
some from Nebraska to Texas, not yet compiled (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK,

Hauser
** CUBA. 15140, Nov 6 at 1555, RHC, S7/S9 of dead air or maybe trace
of modulation. 15230 also DA S9 less fading. Something`s always wrong
at RHC. The Other Side:

``READ TODAY THE CUBA OF TOMORROW November 1, 2023 --- WORKERS`RIGHTS
Wage plundering, threats, corruption: the Cuban dream of working on
cruise ships turned into a nightmare
Three former Cuban crew members reveal to DIARIO DE CUBA situations as
dire as those suffered by health personnel exported by the regime on
its so-called 'missions'.
YUSIMÍ RODRÍGUEZ LÓPEZ | Madrid...``
https://diariodecuba.com/derechos-humanos/1698775858_50720.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** FRANCE. 21640.12V, Nov 6 at 1550, JBA wobbling carrier, obviously
still Issoudun with MiniTransAt. I wonder when the winner will reach
Guadeloupe, and then all the stragglers? Nov 23 is the out-date in
HFCC, after a beam adjustment Nov 13/14. Only others on 13m: 21485 and
21690, both also TDF but in better shape (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KIRITIMATI. Bruce Conti, NRC IDXD ed., replies to my obs that 846
carrier is not being heard direct nor at Kaneohe, Oahu, KiwiSDR which
used to hear it well:

``AsiaWaves lists R. Kiribati schedule 0000-0130, 0500-1005,
1825-2030, mwlist 0000-0130, 0530-0936 [12456], 1800-2000, and the
September 2023 Pacific-Asian Log lists 0000-0130, 0500-0935,
1630-2030. [Conti]``

Well, 846 was certainly on air by 0430 if not earlier, last year, and
it`s not clear if these listings be current. 1440 entry in Asiawaves
is dated Jan 2020; and for 846, Oct 2020. Also, same UT sked for 1440
and 846 which are 2 timezones apart?? Is 846 a 100% relay // 1440? PAL
explicitly states they are not //; but both off the air 0130-0500.
I`ll certainly check Oahu later from 0500 or even 0530. If they are
not //, why should each reference claim exactly the same timespans for
both despite two timezones apart? I don`t find any Pacific in mwlist,
hidden? Is Oahu or anyone hearing 846 deeper in the night to -0935,
-0936 or -1005? Hardly ever any audio. It could also be that the
carrier sometimes? stays on during the silent hours. That would not be
reported as part of the schedule. It may really be totally off the
air. Oahu remote at 0530 Nov 6 shows no 846 on waterfall yet suggests
there is an inaudible signal fluxuating between -4.8 and +1.2 Hz. No
different at 0600. I suspect that be a drawback of the SDR.

Casually, one may not realize how far East K. is from West K:
``The islands extend about 3,900 km (about 2,400 mi) from east to
west. From north to south they extend about 2,100 km (about 1,300 mi),
straddling the equator. 4,468 mi Distance from My Location
(Enid, OK) to Kiribati`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KOREA SOUTH. 7720, Nov 6 at 0738, JBA music, presumably Echo of
Hope for N Korea, VOH, sked 20 hpd at 07-03 per Aoki. Tnx to CST I am
more likely to DX after 07 UT, yawn (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Monday November 6 at 2300, SNR repeats new overall
sked effective Oct 29 but do not detail token English as M/W/F only at
2300-2330. Feature to be about ME situation, news. VG direct almost
overcoming OG&E`s line noise level (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 5960, Nov 6 at 2300, VOT JBA direct under OG&E
line noise, but VG S9+35/40 into UTwente offset +002 Hz, rather with
lite understation CCCCCCI as usual. News until 2320, then `Review of
the Turkish Press`. 2323 always-by-your-side promo, and `Feeling
Supreme/The Healing Spring` on benefits of okra (?) seeds, I think, or
Oprah? 2330 multi-lingual ID filler reel. 2332 music. 2336 `New Day,
New Choices` with ``La Bamba`` theme, badax on microchips smaller than
a grain of sand; music. 2345 `Did You Know That` news of Atatuerk`s
death on Nov 10, 1938 resounded worldwide. 2350 song. 2353 sign-off
with partial sked almost totally wrong. Clueless announcer. Each of
the times labeled ``UTC`` while they are moarly really local UT+3!!
Sic: 2230-2330, 0030-0130, 0200-0300 on 5960, 9660 at
2030-2130[correct Z], 07-08 on 6125, 7285. But ``pre-recorded at 23-24
& 04-05[corrects]``. 6 notes of IS before chopoff, no finesse.
Something`s always awry at Ankara, erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** UKQOGBANI. 25900, Nov 6 at 1658, BBCWS in English from Woofferton
toward South Africa, JBA S6 direct vs S5 line noise level. Complaint
filed again to OG&E, and another 9-digit workorder assigned. This time
I had to wait and listen to their phone music and promo filler loop
for only 15 minutes instead of promised 10 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 26110, Nov 6 at 1552, JBA NBFM talk, no doubt KMK282, studio
feed from KOVR/KMAX California. A while ago found huge FCC list of
such licensees, most or all of which surely inactive, but can`t refind
it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2215 monitoring: confirmed Sunday
November 5 at 2100 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1323 kHz, S9+17 into
nearby Noale SDR. No co-channel QRM. At same time also confirmed on
WRN Europe webcast; and on WRMI webcast-only.

Also confirmed UT Monday November 6 at 0042 the 0030 on WRMI 7780,
S6/S9 into Louisiana SDR after finding me JBA direct amid high line
noise level blasts.

Also confirmed UT Monday November 6 at 0415 at midpoint so started
circa 0400 on Area 51 via WBCQ 6160 -68 Hz, S5/S7 into NH SDR. Next:

0130 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW [irregular?]
0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to SW
1400 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?]
0030 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1000 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB
1030 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB [previous #2214]
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S
0230 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW

Thanks this week to Fred Schroyer, Waynesburg PA for making a good
deal on a needed almost new Icom ICR-75 receiver.

** U S A. 9955, Mon Nov 6 at 1555, no signal already from WRMI-3.
Skedgrid atop shows until 1600 RAE in French, except Sat another hour
with TOMBS until 1700. Program sked abottom shows until 1630 before
going internet-only. Something`s odd at Okee (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1637.3 & 1682.7, Nov 6 at 0402 UT, spurblobs out of 1660
WTOU Kalamazoo are still rampant. When will they fix? Don`t 1640 or
1682 stations care? Of course not! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
