From now and for an unknowntime, at least for 3 years, I will not use any radio except the remote SDRs forDXing. Recently we moved from the village back to the city in a space thatprohibits the use of desktop DXing, a place flooded by high levels of noise inthe LMHF bands. The radio is now used mostly for FM, for news listening.we runpolitically lively condition with always very interesting twits every day ..

Glenn Hauser logs May 6-7, 2025  View Printable Version
Thursday, May 08 2025

Logs
** BRAZIL. 28470 USB, May 7 at 2213, PU5WMA calling CQDX in English,
working a K4. QRZ.com: ``PU5WMA Brazil flag Brazil, Marcelo Arthur
Mendes Waechter, Rua Marechal Rondon, 5051, Cascavel, PR 85813720,
Brazil`` - lots of certificates, equipment, humans illustrated (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 28193 CW, May 7 at 2204, VVV DE VE4ARM/B and more ending
with 17 or 18 E = dits. WGB list: ``28193.0 VE4ARM/B - Manitoba
Amateur Radio Museum - Austin MB CAN EN09mw - #0 (31 Mar 2025) Note:
VVV de ID + grid + E × 16 - Pwr 5w`` with a bit more Es MUF I should
have had FM DX from that area. QRZ.com: ``VE4ARM Canada flag Canada,
MANITOBA AMATEUR RADIO MUSEUM INC., C/O Johnson, Bruce Frederick, 153
Wharton BLVD, Winnipeg, MB R2Y 0S9, Canada`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHILE. 28506 USB, May 7 at 2208, XQ3WD calling CQDX, working a KD9
in Indiana, etc. Lots of fading, and a non-standard fonetik for his
second letter - sounded like ``Peter``, certainly not Quebec, or even
Queen. Also was not sure whether number 2 or 3. Not in QRZ.com, but
DXheat cluster shows such a call on that frequency later that hour
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 87.9, May 7 at 2017 UT, deadair in $ tereo on caradio in
my neighborhood; not always on, and only sometimes musicking, RF
feeder? (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 97.5, May 7 at 1651 UT, tuning caradio for Es gets `new`
fairly strong and steady $ tereo signal here, ``Classic Hits, 97-5,
KZLF``. `1702 ``all-news 97-5 KZLF``, ``tnx for all our freedoms``
plug; 1703 ``SSB`` solo by soprano YL; 1705 jingle. Was expecting
Tulsa but hardly anysigs from others 95.5 & 96.5. WTFDA FM DB shows
KZLF Alva OK, 50/50 kW, 150.0m, ``silent 10/31/24 xmtr damaged by
lightning`` -- well, it`s back! Sounds too much like Enid`s KZLS -
coincidence?

92.9, May 7 at 1653 UT, ``92-9 The Edge``, really K225BN xltr of 92.5
KOMA-HD2, 200 watts H/V at 267.7m HAAT. Nearest 92.9 competitors are
Tulsa, Wichita Falls and Osage City KS = between Emporia & Topeka.

In full bandscan these without $ tereo pilot icon: 89.3 KIEL Loyal;
90.3 KHEV Fairview; 105.1 KOSB Perry. Also 91.7 KOSU with NPR talk
daytime but $ The Spy music alterego nighttime. WTFDA FMDB has no way
of showing stations half $ /half mono but could be in remarx (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** PANAMA. ``Hi Glenn! The beacon you heard from Panama on 28282.0 kHz
is actually HP1DCP/B, located in Panama City, not HP1DQP/B. It is
fairly widely heard, especially when conditions favor receptions from
Mexico and South America, like they have recently. The operator does
have a page on QRZ.com, but William Buchanan has yet to hear it, hence
it’s not in his beacon list. Steve Howe, Saint Albans, VT`` - so I
must have miscopied C as Q. QRZ.com: ``HP1DCP Panama flag Panama, RENE
IVAN FONSECA, P.O.BOX 0819-09911, REP. OF PANAMA, Panama`` (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17715 S9+30/40, 15500 S9+20/30, 15520 S9+20, 15390 S9/+10,
Wed May 7 at 2159, all four REEs are on, and the SAm one slightly
stronger direct than the NAm one. The other two in Arabic before
joining up for 2200 token English. Preview topix: Festival de Madrid,
cine; and sexual violence against women in Spain`s cinema and
audiovisual industries. 2201.6 news leads with Pope stuff of course;
PM speaks for first time about last week`s blackout and what caused
it; discussion whether Spain should rely more on nuclear energy. At
2219 second discussion that over 50% of Spanish women in AV/cinema
industries have experienced sexual violence = not only rape but
threats, etc. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785, May 7 at 2159, VOT not off the air, S9 but JBM?
totally unreadable direct (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 28204+ CW, May 7 at 2206, slow beacon W0WF/B. WGB list:
``28204.0 W0WF/B - Saint Charles MO USA EM48rr - #0 (31 Mar 2025)
Note: VVV + ID - Pwr 20w`` - QRZ.com: ``W0WF USA flag USA, JERRY D
WATTS, 3630 TARRAGON, SAINT CHARLES, MO 63303, USA - IF YOU COPY MY
BEACON ON 28.204 PLEASE E-MAIL ME A SIGNAL REPORT AND YOUR LOCATION TO
W0WF.B@AOL.COM Flag Counter`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2293 monitoring: ``Richard Lemke,
St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, From the desk of Richard’s listening
Post, Go, Oilers, Go. Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF (30 years of service),
Antenna: random long wires in the trees. WRMI, USA, World of Radio
#2293:

missed, at end of broadcast, WRMI computer, 2358, May 4 UTC 2025
[Sunday].
9395 kHz, 30% aurora no voice empty frequency, 2359, May 6 UTC 2025
[Tuesday](Lemke, Richard -AB)``

Confirmed Tuesday May 6 at 2330 on WRMI 9395, S9+40 into Georgia SDR.

Also confirmed Tuesday May 6 at 2330 on SW Radio, Germany, 3975.002+,
S9+10 into UTwente.

Missed checking Wed May 7 at 1930 on SW Radio, Germany, 3975 & 6160.

Confirmed Wednesday May 7 at 2100 on WBCQ 7490 -70 Hz = 7489.930,
S7/S9 into Maryland SDR. Next:

0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;
1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160.

Financial support appreciated for our non-commercial public
service program, by MO or check on a US bank to
Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9930, May 7 at 1506, TOMBS on WTWW, VG signal but no spurs
or splatter. George McClintock just informed me that both transmitters
are working, this one on 5920 at night, and the other one on 5085 at
night, altho 9475 in daytime is still off.

9930 at 2216 check May 7, S9+60! direct but no spurs or splatter this
time, TOMBS // not synch with 9980 WWCR. 9475 is still not on.
Likewise at 2347 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1630 kHz, May 7 at 0620, ID in passing as ``970 & 1630``, YL
with news, about equal mix with another. There are only 3 N Americans
on 1630 and this one is certainly KKGM Fort Worth TX, with BIN network
and per NRC AM Log also in group with 970, which is KHVN, address for
both axually in Dallas (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Kansas FM stations whilst seeking Es DX: 93.1, May 7 at 2020
UT, ad for People`s Bank & Trust, and for abbyvillerodeo.com. The bank
is in McPherson, NE of Hutchinson, and the rodeo - at first I thought
the were saying radio -- is west of Hutch, so it`s KHMY, My 93-1,
licensed to Pratt SW of Hutch, but operating from Hutch. Abbyville is
too insignificant to appear in my atlas map or index. KHMY is normal
fringer but had some good peaks I hoped would turn out to be Es.

94.3, May 7 at 2021 UT, financial talk with a religious angle, mono so
surely the Bott station, KCVW in Kingman. But not // 800 KQCV OKC.
2024 outro show Faithfi.com, i.e. Faith & Finance; 2026 Bott ID (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9936.0, May 7 at 0607, there it is again like 24h ago,
open carrier at S6/S7 with clix. What is this? (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 12153-12196, May 7 at 1431, range of multi-carrier,
multi-tones beating, peaking circa 12171 at S9+5. Would make a huge
collision with WWCR 12160 after 1500 - but at 1502 recheck, WWCR only,
which of course is the OOB intruder. What is this? (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. First sporadic E FM DX of season? May 7 circa 1630 UT,
map shows nexus around Memphis with NW/SE and NE/SW paths; tho a
little too close to here and E/W, worth it to tune the caradio for DX.
No IDs, but brief Es-like strong signals appeared and soon faded out:
93.3 at 1650 UT, Jake-FM OKC unusually with CCI
93.5 at 1709 UT, mono talk over KS C&W
94.1 at 1710 UT, talk not // 89.7 so not KTHM Waynoka OK; but poss. 3
other Okies (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 87.7 MHz, May 7 at 2008 UT tune-in caradio in downtown
Enid, fragment of Mexmx and gone. Must have been meteor scatter;
nothing more in next few minutes. Could have been 87.75 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

``[WOR] Gander VOLMET to be decommissioned next month
https://www.navcanada.ca/en/flight-planning/service-notices/2025-06-12-gander.aspx

Flight PlanningService Notices
2025-06-12 Gander
Notice of Change
Air Traffic Services (ATC/FSS)

Decommission of VOLMET Service provided by Gander International Flight
Service Station - Gander, NL

NAV CANADA, the country's provider of civil air navigation services,
conducted a review of the requirement for In-flight Meteorological
Information (VOLMET) Service provided by the International Flight
Service Station (IFSS) at Gander, Newfoundland and Labrador.

The review determined that the removal of the VOLMET service will
not
have a material impact on stakeholders and would not be a material
change to the services provided by NAV CANADA to the aircraft
transiting the Gander Oceanic Control Area (OCA).

Aviation technology has evolved to allow suitably equipped aircraft
to
acquire the required meteorological information directly from
alternate
sources. This has alleviated the need for pilots to monitor a
scheduled
VOLMET broadcast on a high frequency (HF) radio.

Aircraft not equipped to receive meteorological information via
alternate means may continue to request necessary weather updates
from
Gander IFSS via the North Atlantic (NAT) family of HF frequencies.

This change will take effect on 12 June 2025 at 0901Z Coordinated
Universal Time (UTC). The appropriate aeronautical publications will
be
amended.

For further information please contact:
NAV CANADA
Customer and Stakeholder Services
151 Slater Street
Ottawa, ON K1P 5H3
Phone: 1-800-876-4693
Email: service@navcanada.ca``

They used to be shared with New York VOLMET, and 3485 with many other
airports` 2-way. The 2-way comms frequencies for Gander in EiBi are:
2872, 2899, 3016, 3476, 4675, 5598, 5616, 5649, 6622, 8831, 8864,
8879, 8891, 8906, 8918, 11279, 11336, 13291, 13306.

Here is a comprehensive frequency list of VOLMET broadcasts worldwide:
https://dxinfocentre.com/volmet.htm

Meanwhile, the only other HF VOLMET in Canada, CHR, Trenton Military,
remains silent after another protracted spate of ``no reports
received`` on 15034, 6754 USBs. Who knows if it ever revive? IIRC,
Gander has no such ``nrr`` problem (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 28174+ CW, May 6 at 2207, VVV DE VE1VDM/B EEEEEEEEEE.
QRZ.com: ``VE1VDM Canada flag Canada, Vernon Matheson, 189 Kaulback

OK, WOR)

** CHILE. 28460 USB, May 5 at 2207, CE8MGZ, QSO with USA in English.

except deep S America on 10m, nothing much in beacons, or on 12, 15m
phone; see URUGUAY (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KIRITIMATI. [Re: ``846 kHz, May 3 at 0630, JJBBA carrier. Almost
every night I check for signs of R. Kiribati reactivated, which used
to be regularly detectable, since it`s on a `clear` split and very far
east, same longitude as Hawai`i. This is so weak that I am far from
sure it`s not a spoiler birdie``

``Hi Glenn - Checked May 4, a few times after 0445+ and heard nothing
on 846, via several NZ remotes; was a clear frequency``. Ron Howard
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. 28276 CW, May 6 at 2209, XE1JAL/B, a beacon often heard
before; QRZ.com: ``XE1JAL Mexico flag Mexico, Mario Rizo Campomanes,

** PANAMA. 28282 CW, May 6 at 2210, VVV HP1DQP/B plus long msg
including PANAMA. NOT in QRZ.com nor in WGB beacon list! (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 15500 & 17715, Mon May 5 at 2200, token English from SNR
equally strong S9+20/30 direct on N & S American frequencies; 15520
S9+10 and even 15390 S8/S9. Preview papal conclave and something about
flamenco; 2201 news leading with Toledo train problems, power failure?
no food; investigation of last week`s blackout (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** SPAIN. 15500 > 17715 > 15520 > 15390, May 6 at 2157, all four REE
frequencies on, 2200 open Sefarad program since it`s Tuesday, VG to
weak sigs direct (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785 & 9875, May 5 at 2200, NO signals from VOT English
direct; nor at 2231 into UTwente. Something`s always erroneous at
Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.007+, May 6 at 2156, VOT not off the air, S9/+10 into
UTwente but just barely modulated, with IS? At 2215 same S9+10 with
flutter. Into UTwente at 2225 when measured, with music, mod seems
sufficient. 2253 s/off as if it`s 1230 on 17620, awry at Ankara, and
IS to 2256* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2293 monitoring: confirmed Monday
May 5 at 1931 on SW Radio, Germany, 3975.001+, S9+10 into UTwente;
6160 not checked.

Confirmed UT Tuesday May 6 at 0330 on WRMI 7780, S9+35/40 into S TX
SDR.

Also confirmed Tuesday May 6 at 1309 the 1300 on WRMI 9955, S9+15/20
undermodulated.

Also confirmed Tuesday May 6 at 1419 the 1400 on WRMI 9955, S6/S8 JBA.
Next:

Also confirmed Tuesday May 6 after 2000 on IRRS SW via AM Italia,
1322.995+. S9+3 into UTwente. Tuned in earlier, at 1954 Wavescan in
Japan DX report but cut to dead air at 1955. Then at 1956 fired a
canned ID for AM Italia on 207, 918, 1323 kHz, and also in Italian!
AFAIK they have not really been active on 918 or 207 in a long time,
and NOT now at 2007 check. Next:

2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW;
2330 UT Tuesday SW Radio, Germany 3975;
1930 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160;
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW;
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;
1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160.

** U S A. 9930, May 5 at 2215, WTWW is S9+50 with TOMBS, and this time
no spurs plus/minus 12.9 kHz, other transmitter? Then I find 9475
*also* on with S9+50 of dead air with spur such as 9487.9, but off at
2216*. Circa 2245 George McClintock informs me that a visiting
consultant has got the 9475/5085 transmitter on the air, so it`s
expected to be running both from now on, 9930/5920 with TOMBS and
9475/5085 with Ancient Word Radio, including WORLD OF RADIO UT
Saturday 0300. The cost for getting tubes rebuilt has almost tripled.
However, at 2339 recheck neither 9475 nor 5085 is on. And at 0113 May
6, only 5920 is on (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9930, May 6 at 2158, WTWW with TOMBS and heavy splatter
above and below; usual discrete parasitic spurs at 9917.1 and 9942.9,
and for first time, two more at double the ~12.9 displacement!
Definitely on 9904.2, and weaker 9955.8: QRMing WRMI 9955.0! Contrary
to yesterday`s expectations, other transmitter still missing from 9475
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 7505, May 6 at 0628, WRNO on late with hymn in English,
S9/+5. Totally unpredictable (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1360, May 6 at 0638 UT, Spanish talk and song dominate,
seems religious; and CCI from Mexmx. Mainly probably KTNZ Amarillo TX,
U4 6000/320, and the other could be KGMR Clarksville AR, U1 500/98 or
KMNY Hurst TX, U4 50000/890 watts. Note this May 2 via IRCA:

``KMNY Dallas FW running full 50Kw day power, this night May 2nd 0800
UT -- KMYN big signal on 1360, 890 watt night power - ha ha ha -
blasting away all else S+5/9. Fem Ann: "Somos La Voz de trece sesenta
AM" & @ TOH: "KMNY Dallas Fort Worth". Previous logged Hurst TX as
KAHZ. Cheers, Chris M, Gold Coast Qld.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** URUGUAY. 28433 USB, May 5 at 2159, CX7AM saying 73 in Spanish.
QRZ.com: ``CX7AM Uruguay flag Uruguay, MARIA ELSA TORRES MOGNASCHI,
GALICIA 1469, MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay`` - did not sound like a YL; of
course, not every María in Spanish is female; sure of callsign
fonetikaly. See also CHILE (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 9960, May 6 at 0633, R. Vanuatu in English about
inflation; or rather Bislama resorting to lots of English words, S3/S4
but clearer than usual (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. ``Hi Glenn, Re: "UNIDENTIFIED. 630.04 approx., May 5 at
0406, low audible het = LAH against 630.0 stations. MWoffsets has
nothing further off than 630.006 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)" -- For what
it's worth, KHOW [Denver] was operating around 630.019 the entire
weekend of my Nevada-Utah border DXpedition last October. 73 Tim
Hall`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9936.0, May 6 at 0630, open carrier at S3 but with clix
at the steady rate of 22/minute, and also detectable out to 9927/9945.
At this hour no SWBC stations in the way. Yet another of these
mysteries always ending in 6. Almost identically logged earlier:

``UNIDENTIFIED. 9936.0 AM, March 15 at 0618 UT, S8/S9 open carrier
except for clix, at the rate of 20/minute = every 3 seconds, JBA out
to 9923/9950, +/- 13 or 14 kHz. What is this? Yet another one ending
in -6`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 87.9, May 5 at 2010 UT, Mexmx fading in and out on
caradio in Enid, probably RF feeder for entertainment of
huespedobreros. Later at different spot had dead air in $ tereo, maybe
two separate transmitters. No sporadic E shown on the maps (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
