Glenn Hauser logs March 12-13, 2024  View Printable Version
Thursday, March 14 2024

Logs
** CANADA. 28301 CW, March 13 at 2216, VVV DE VE3CKN/B -- and long
pauses between repeats. Strangely, the OBOB in a quick bandscan. WI5V
beacon list still inaccessible, but in the WJ5O list not updated since
2016y?: ``28.3002 VE3CKN ? GLOUCESTER, ONT, CANADA # ?,?
Un-coordinated beacon reported Dec 12``. But QRZ.com: ``VE3CKN Canada
flag Canada, Donald Greene, 139 CURTIS PVT, GLOUCESTER, ON K1V 7L7,
Canada. Good Day All, The VE3CKN/B is a 10m beacon using a HTX-100, 5
watts into a Butternut HF6V. Also a 40m beacon using a Vectronics 40m
CW Transmitter 1 watt and a CW IDer. 73' Don (ve3ckn at gmail . com)``
WTF,K? No offence, but I`ve always felt Gloucester be a rather ugly
name for any place; not even indexed in my Rand McNally. Where is it?
Just SE of Ottawa now absorbed into that more euphonious city (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** GUAM. 15680, March 13 at 2159 open carrier S7/S9, 2200 KSDA AWR
English ID, following program in Dayak. Believe it or not, this is the
SSOB, or at least roughly equal to offside 15770 WRMI aimed NE. As to
be expected, HFCC shows 100 kW aimed WSW = 255 degrees, so how do they
manage such a signal over here? Ideal propagation pipeline? Hardly
anything else on band from PacAsia. Shows lang is Nij which per
readme at EiBi is: ``NJ Ngaju Dayak: Indonesia-Borneo (0.9m)[nij]``
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MALI. 5995, March 13 at 0651, non-DRM noiseblob again S9+25 and no
program audio from ORTM. Zacharias Liangas also monitored this today
via Canary SDR:

``5995 today a strong noise white type jammer kills reception of a
station airing stringed music. Sign off together with the noise at
0759. Listen here``
https://app.box.com/s/fyxetlzkl6sbi5nsmd5j0wvyopukcc98

On the recording both stop at the same time just before 0759, so I
still think the noise is from ORTM itself rather than external
``jamming`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. 1120, Mar 13 at 2214 UT, no signal, trying
the refurbished Wellbrook loop; nor on the internal shortwire, yet JBA
carrier daytime from NE or TX on 1110. Suspect KETU Catoosa = Tulsa
mkt in Spanish, be off. Licensed 10 KW D4, CH 7 kW. D4 means two
different patterns for day and critical hours. Never a bigsig here.
Day pattern favors N/S with a notch to the NW but we are close to due
west. CH pattern almost identical but a bit smaller, both also with a
notch toward KMOX. Recheck at 2305-2310 UT on two other radios, still
no KETU --- but with the DX-398 I do get a DF fix on the horrible line
noise level, totally different than the source a mile or so away that
OG&E repaired a few months ago. Then I`m getting a JBA 1120 carrier
from the direxion of KMOX. I reported KETU a lot in 2022y but not
2023y, yet I think it was mostly there last year. Nor have I found any
FCC news about it from IRCA in 2023 or 2024 (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. RF 17, K17JN-D, still misIDing due to someone`s stupid
typo as K17JI-D, March 13 at 1533 UT: I am bandscanning during
enhanced tropo reception. Signal here is diminished no doubt due to DX
interference, but as I go thru the channels this one displays as 17-3
3ABN-IN! Yet it`s black and silent. See my Feb 11 report in detail of
what`s on this transmitter, Enid`s only local TV signal. At that time
it was simply NO SIGNAL, not 3ABN-IN. I have no idea what sub-network
that indicate, but it`s obviously useless. Just like Feb 11, there
*is* a signal on 17-3 but it`s black and silent. And I can`t get the
3ABN-IN PSIP to display again.

Rabbitears.info is still mostly outdated for this, ignoring the update
I sent more than a month ago. FWIW, for 17-3 it says call sign is
SmrtLfS, sic cases, and Network/Programming of Hope Channel.

Meanwhile I was getting BAD signals on many of the `open` UHF channels
and some VHF. The only one decoding was usual RF 20, KQCW ``19`` Tulsa
market (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SAUDI ARABIA. 11915, March 13 at 1512, buzzroar from defective
transmitter, S6/S7 direct (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SWAZILAND [and non]. 9585, March 13 at 1518, FMish blob unreadable
but cadence of talk, atop JBA AM carrier, i.e. listed TWR in Malagasy
at 1455-1525 M-F but French on weekends. Probably remnant by longpath.
Blob could be spur of bigsig nearby? Modpeaks do not match blaster
9980 WWCR TOMBS. Could be of local origin? Then should be constant,
but nonesuch at 1727 recheck (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.002, March 13 at 2339, VOT music S9+30/45
into UTwente, so not off the air. Tnx to DST, 6pm CDT is a less
convenient time for me vs. PBS NewsHour, so I also missed tokEnglish
from Spain completely again. 2343, weekly `Sports Panorama`, mainly
stupid ballgame, football. Could not understand team names even if I
cared. 2349 `ABYS` promo, music. 2354 TRTWorld promo, s/off for the
1330 emission only, about 9 notes of IS before 2355* chopoff
uncovering XJRTV in Chinese, std. genocidal denunciations (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. 17865, March 13 at *1649, continuous OTH radar
clickery cuts on. I have been monitoring this via UTwente since 1544,
as it`s on the GB-6 schedule for R. Martí, 250 kW, 45 degrees for
Ukraine at 13-17 UT, same parameters as 17680 at 17-20 -- but 17865
for that obviously not yet activated.

17680, March 13 at 1658, into UTwente, S9/+20 open carrier is on. I`m
distracted by other things at ToH but modulation starts at 1700 in
unknown language, not Spanish or Ukrainian, wrong program input! 1701
switches to Martinoticias. Again today all the content seems to be
about the Russian war on Ukraine, and Cuban involvement. At 1723
refers to this? being a podcast - rather than `live` programing like
for Cuba itself on usual lower bands.

Richard Langley has more info about that:

``On 16 February, there was an article in the Wall Street Journal
entitled "How Russia Recruits Soldiers From Cuba to Fight in Ukraine;
Eager to escape Communist island's poverty, Cubans are joining Russian
army." In that article, we find:

"Ambassador Ruslan Spirin, Ukraine's special representative to Latin
America and the Caribbean, said the government believes that about 400
Cubans are fighting in the country. 'We take it seriously,' he said.

"Others think the numbers go higher. Maryan Zablotskyi, a member of
the Ukrainian parliament who has studied the issue, estimates that
between 1,500 and 3,000 Cubans have enlisted as the island's
state-controlled economy crumbles."

The whole article is quite interesting but is behind a paywall unless
you have a WSJ subscription or access through a university library,
etc. -- Richard Langley`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2233 monitoring: ``From: Richard
Lemke, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, the desk of Richard’s listening
Post, Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF, Antenna: random long wires in the trees,
Dear Glenn: Update, confirming WOR #2233, WRMI:
5850, 0144 (55433-4), confirmed 0159, March 9 UTC 2024 [Sat]
9395, 2330, 2344, 2358 (45433), 2359, March 12 UTC 2024 [Tue]
(Lemke, Richard -AB) 73’s, Richard``

Confirmed Tuesday March 12 at 2330 on WRMI 9395, S9+15/25 into
Missouri SDR.

Also confirmed Wednesday March 13 at 1415 the secret 1400 on WRMI
9955, S7/9+5 direct. Last week March 6, before the one-hour-earlier
DSTimeshift, music aired instead after 1500, so I thought it was
canceled. Continues on A24 sked to show at 1400 Thursdays instead,
when it had not been airing at 1500.

Also confirmed Wednesday March 13 at 2035 the 2030, S9/+10 into
UTwente from SW Radio, Germany, 3975.002.

Before 2100 March 13, I asked about relying on the WBCQ 7490 play for
WOR, and how is reception so far into the daytime? No replies so far.
Here, not even tried, but into Maryland SDR it was sufficient S9/+10
on 7489.946. Next:

0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW [ex-0230]
1730 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 3975

As noncommercial services, financial support appreciated, by MO or
check in US funds on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK
73702.

One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to:
woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 12160, March 13 at 1515, WWCR with gospelhuxters at S9+40
and a squeal on this transmitter, both the USB and LSB sides, evitable
by narrowing bandwidth (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WTWW: George McClintock informs me at 2040 March 13: 9475
tested OK today for 30 minutes, plans to start regular broadcasts
sometime next week, hours not set. Still messing with modulation
cards. 5085 will be full 100 kW for first time tonight. The sagging
transmission line has been raised so now safely out of reach (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 891 kHz, March 13 at 0648, only TA carrier this late
among lower spots checked such as 684, 711, 774, 855, is 891, surely
the 300/100 kW ALGERIA, but again it has a slow beat SAH signifying
one other station. Surely it`s too late into the dayside for any
others of considerable power in mwlist: Ethiopia, Iran, Lesotho,
Sudan, Turkey. Could Eurafricans check on this? Could there really be
a second synchro transmitter in Algeria? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Logs
** EGYPT. 9440v, Mar 12 at 2228, no signal from R Cairo into UTwente.
Earlier it had been reported active on 9900 during French. Something`s
always egregious in Egypt (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** FRANCE. 21610-21615-21620, March 12 at 1556, DRM noise at S9 and
nothing else on 13m band. It`s TDF ISS spanning 1530/1900 per EiBi
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** GUAM. 15215, March 12 at 2205, ``Silent Night`` in oriental
language, S0/S2, Vietnamese as sked this hour from KSDA. Could it be
the 7DA hint their saviour was really allegedly born in springtime,
not that pagan winter solstice nonsense? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MALI. 17630, March 12 at 1557, American English discussion of AI,
S7/S9 one of best signals on band. Therefore must be CRI as scheduled
via Bamako toward E Africa. So this keeps Mali on SW despite absence
lately of ORTM. The Malians ought to insist as part of the relay deal,
the ChiCom keep their own transmitter working properly (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960.005, March 12 at 2300, VOT not off the air in English,
VG S9+35/45 into UTwente as usual M announcer signs on the 1330
broadcast -- only, which is also often the only one mentioned at
sign-off, and into news - or rather olds, no newer than 9.5 hours ago!
Something`s always awry at Ankara (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 17680, after yesterday`s surprise appearance of R. Martí at
1939, checking earlier in the day March 12, not on before 1700, but on
by 1744 recheck, probably from 1700, VG S9+15/25 signal into UTwente.
It`s Spanish but all about Ukrussia rather than Cuba, first playing
satirical folk?song in Ukrainian or Russian with Putin in the lyrix.
1746 RM 1180 ID. 1747 phone interview about topic A. 1755 VOA sounder
and USG editorial, in Spanish, about you-know-what. 1800 contact info
on social nets, email, and `Abriendo Espacios` show opening, half an
hour about ``Cuban women`` but also really about Ukrussia, and lasts
until 1842 IDs again. UTwente is getting nothing but carriers at best
from 11860, 11930, 13820, as to be expected aimed at Cuba; checking
Maryland remote, again totally non-// programming to 17680.

Meanwhile a source at Grimesland says it`s a new service to reach
Cubans fighting for Russia in Ukraine -- volunteers, or convicts? --
as if they had time or inclination to listen to RM! 250 kW at 45
degrees. Further listening to 17680 is nothing but topic-A in Spanish.
1849 repeating the VOA editorial. Interviewing native-Spanish speaking
Ukrainians, 1857 a profesora Tatiana in Odesa; 2030 Anastasia Schmidt?
from Mikolaiv, with some accent. At 1856 had mentioned podcasts, and
that may be source of this audio, accounting for no breaks at
top-of-hours as to be expected on a `live` broadcast. Would not be
surprised at considerable repetition from hour to hour or day to day,
but would have to listen a lot more to determine that. 2034 a very
dramatic poem with music. 2036 discusses pronunciation of names
correctly in Ukrainian versions rather than Russian. 2043 the stirring
Ukrainian national anthem, not in Spanish. 2045 interview of Russlan
-- enumerating Russian losses in the war. 2100 VOA Yankee Doodle Dandy
s/ON, played twice, by mistake, pause, then 2102 VOA YDD s/OFF and
off*. So 17-21 UT daily? Or temporarily (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2233 monitoring: confirmed UT
Tuesday March 12 at 0330 on WRMI 7780, S7/S9 into Maryland SDR, way
offbeam but I happen to have running, and ``getouttamyfrequency``
utenoiseblast audible first 14 sex.

Also confirmed Tuesday March 12 at 1300 [ex-1400] on WRMI 9955, S9
direct. Next:

2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1200 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB or 3210-USB
1230 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB or 3210-USB
[previous #2232][SW suspended but still streamed?]
2030 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW,
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1730 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 3975

As noncommercial services, financial support appreciated, by MO or
check in US funds on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK
73702.

One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to:
woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15555 USB, March 12 at 2159, WJHR s/off with contact info
accompanied by `Old Rugged Cross` tune, and off 2200. 9275 WMLK was
also still on at 2159 but goone when I got back to it after 2200
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. 750 kHz, March 12 at 0638 UT, two weak sigs
mixing, one talk, one rock. Checking since WSB had been reported off.
They make a SAH of 40/minute = 0.67 Hz apart. If on at full 50 kW U1,
WSB should be dominant. Shortly the music morphs to talk? Some net
talkshows do have music breaks. But *0647.8 what must be WSB cuts on
with bigsig talking. From experience, I know the most likely other one
would be CKJH, ``Beach [sic] Radio`` in landlocked Melfort,
Saskatchewan, 25/25 kW U4 despite supposed to be direxional-north at
night. Many Canadian MW fail to protect US stations as licensed. For
once, the SAH fits neatly per mwoffsets, both measured last August:
CKJH on 749.9995, WSB on 750.0002, i.e. 0.7 Hz apart!

IRCA posts in reverse order leading up to this:

``DX Alert: WSB 750 off air, Rick Kenneally, 2:06pm #40306 Wow,
catching up on Slack it seems much more than Argentina was heard.
Sounds like an amazing night on 750.``

``Paul Crankshaw 11:30am #40304 WSB off at 0410 utc but back on after
a stutter at 0640. See my Jaguar plot of 750 kHz carriers - attached.
Paul, Troon, Scotland``

``Rick Kenneally 11:22am #40303 Oh exciting! Normally I record
overnight on the west wire. But it came down in the windstorm so I’m
recording overnight on the south wire. Should be interesting. Will
review this weekend. Thanks Mike. Rick, Wilton, CT``

``Paul B. Walker, Jr. 5:22am #40302 The engineer is doing work, i just
saw him make a one line off handed remark in a facbeook post on his
page "goign to work on the legendary AM tonight" when posting a pic of
an FM transmitter. Regards, Paul Walker "The Alaska Radio Nerd"``

``Mike Westfall 5:06am #40301 Check out 750 kHz. WSB suddenly dropped
of the air at about 0410 UTC and is still off. Argentina was heard
here with Tango music. -- Mike Westfall`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carriers, not a full 9/kHz
bandscan this late, but checking a few likelies, March 12 at 0636 UT:
only 711, surely WESTERN SAHARA; nothing on 774 or 855 Spain, 891
Algeria (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs March 10-11, 2024s  View Printable Version
Tuesday, March 12 2024

Logs
** CANADA [non]. 17550, March 11 at 1431, hymn theme S3/S5 with
flutter. EiBi & Aoki show Bible Voice via Nauen, GERMANY at 1430-1500
in Nuer language, spoken in Sudan and Ethiopia (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CHINA [and non]. 11660, March 11 at 1437, two Chinese clashing with
LAH = low audible heterodyne, totalling S9/+20. Also // 12120 at 1442,
S9+10/30 well above the JBA CCI. Both CNR1 jammers against VOA
Mandarin: 11660 via THAILAND at 1430-1500, 12120 via TINIAN at
1400-1500, per Aoki & EiBi (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 5025, UT Mon March 11 at 0649, S9+25/40, NOT Rebelde, but RHC
Spanish wrapping up `En Contacto` DX program with CW/theme music, must
have started at 0635; RHC ID and 0652 `En Compañía del Doctor`, med
advice show. WWDXC DX program sked for B23 shows `En Contacto` Sun
1435, 2335, Mon 0235 - but not 0635. I`ve heard this further repeat
before when some frequency happen to be active. The others probably
shifted an hour earlier now, on any RHC frequencies that can be found.
Also Thu 2335, needs to be confirmed. Why not Rebelde? So many RHC SW
transmitters are nearly/dead (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KOREA SOUTH [and non]. 4885, March 11 at 1350, OSOB is JBA carrier
vs S7 noise level, Echo of Hope and/or N Korean jamming. Unfortunately
am awake this early so bandscanning. An hour+ past Enid LSR of 1247 UT
- axually 0615 LMT, but forced by legislation to call it ``7:47``
am!

49 mb still with lots of sigs mostly JBA or JBA carriers: 5915, 5925,
5945, 5955, 5965, 5975, 5980, 5990, 5995, 6000, 6015, 6030, 6035,
6045, 6055, 6065, 6070, 6075, 6100, 6105, 6125, 6145, 6165, 6180,
6185, 6190, 6200 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MALI. 5995, March 11 at 0646, no signal from ORTM, unlike the noise
blob last night, surely problems there. Hope it`s not over; at least
Mali still hosts all those ChiCom relays via Bamako. Ron Howard
replied:

``Recently Jorge Freitas (Brazil) and I have noted that Mali has been
absent. Thanks to Jorge for the alert that something was up with Mali.
I checked 5995, on March 8, after 0615+ UT and heard what sounded like
N. Korea jamming(?) (against Echo of Hope - VOH), but no Mali. Didn't
check 9635, for their later sign on. Ron

Thanks, Glenn, for your observations. You are right. Believe what I
heard was not jamming from NK, as it seemed rather early for that and
too strong. Was a significant noise whatever it was! Ron`` (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 11514.9, March 11 at 1435, JBA signal on signature
offset, no doubt pirate Hikari FM from Sonora or Arizona (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ROMANIA. 17790, March 11 at 1433, music and presumed Romanian talk
from RRI Galbeni, S9+5/10. At first I thought WRMI carrier on earlier
than 1500, but maybe only RRI undermodulated. In any event, overlaps
1500-1600 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SAUDI ARABIA. 11915, March 11 at 1440, buzzroar at S5 but sounding
very loud, defective transmitter the earliest heard yet, presumably
failing to emit Republic of Yemen Radio. It`s a mystery why they keep
running this in such a useless condition. Perhaps bureaucratic:
transmitter ops just following orders to turn it on no matter what,
while HQ boss has no idea how it sounds? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.005, Sunday March 10 at 2316, VOT English
not off the air, S9+35/40 and VG mod into UTwente with constant
understation XJRTV audible during talk and pauses, but not bothering
much, commentary about Gaza & Israel, 2319 outro as `Weekly Analysis`,
the various writers` names never understandable even if they be
Westerners. 2320 `ABYS` promo, music. 2325 `WYEH` promo, `Letterbox`,
top of the stack from Siddartha? location not given, but he writes
every day so mentioned repeatedly. Then Pakistan, or was that he?
Ricky Hein from somewhere in USA: I know him, SD. FL, A. Klepov from
Moscow; China. 2336 time`s up, music -- but only then, 2340 outro for
L`box, `ABYS`, 2346 `ABYS` again, music. 2350 multi-lingual ID filler
reel. 2352 s/off for the 1330 only: something`s always awry at Ankara.
2353 IS, chop at 2353.6* uncovering XJRTV, std denunciations (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [non]. 5960.000, March 11 at 2304, NO signal from VOT
English, rather S9/+15 into UTwente of Chinese already on from XJRTV,
EAST TURKISTAN, which usually cuts on around *2311. So VOT on overrun
9610 instead? No, not there either, only S8/S9 on 9610.000 presumed
Mongolian from CNR Beijing. 2340 recheck, still no TRT on 5960.
Something`s always erroneous at Emirler. Meanwhile missed my chance to
pay more attention to tokEnglish from Spain at 2300-2330 on 9690.
Maybe I`ll find its podcast later or read all about it from kvz (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U K [non]. 21660, March 11 at 1403, OSOB mentions Modi, BJP, but
language is listed Somali from BBC; 1429 some echo past 1430. Per EiBi
& Aoki, site is VATICAN M-F at 14-15, so another instance of
abnormally bigsig in our opposite direxion. Two other sites are
involved on 21660, Sat & Sun: 12-14 Madagascar, 14-1530 UAE (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 17680, March 11 at 1939, S9+20/25 surprise signal in
Spanish, nothing in latest HFCC March 8. I was seeking some music to
nap by, maybe 17600 Algeria, till I hit this; medical discussion, then
1942, about IWD and Ukraine with a song, apparent program title
`Abriendo Espacios`. What could this be. Unsounds like RHC which
presumably supports Putin but no //s on to check, not even 15140
English. Not // Spain on 17715. VOA? Deleted SW Spanish years ago. Not
// R. Martí 13820, 11930, 11860 --- BUT at 1947 ID as ``Martinoticias
AM 1180 y onda corta``. So it is Grimesland! I recheck on another
receiver the lower Martí frequencies and they are // each other but
NOT this, altho subject is also Ukraine. Maybe same but far out of
synch, not merely a few seconds. How could that happen? 17680 off
before next check 2201. Maybe a test. If permanentized could obscure
NZ 17675, not even noticed today. Also, I occasionally check 35790 for
3 x 11930 which made it to Alberta, but mostly not even a JBA carrier
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2233 monitoring: confirmed Sunday
March 10 at 2000 on WRMI webcast only; 9955 not on until 2055 today
with IS & ID ToH loop.

Also confirmed Sunday March 10 at 2100 on WRN Europe webcast.

Also confirmed Sunday March 10 at 2100 on IRRS via AM Italia, 1322.997
kHz, S9+5/10 into UTwente across Europe. However, at 2123 recheck,
canned English IDs for 207, 918 and 1323 kHz, and correct timecheck in
Italian for 22:24, then vamp music default. Must have lost program
feed well before WOR was over! I then check UTwente and Parma for 207
& 918 but they are not on, nor ever? at least during WOR for over a
year.

Also confirmed Sunday March 10 from 2231.5 on SW Radio, Germany,
3975.002, S9/+5 into UTwente; preceded by ADDX in German, and before
that US hamnews in English.

Also confirmed UT Monday March 11 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S9+10/15 into
Durango2 SDR, better than usual there.

Also confirmed UT Monday March 11 from 0300 sharp on Area 51 via WBCQ
6159.931, S9+5 into NH SDR.

Also confirmed Monday March 11 at 2030 on SW Radio, Germany, 3975.002,
S9 into UTwente. Next:

UNIDENTIFIED. 11580, March 11 at 1436, some noise, not DRM, but
jamming? Sound of Hope 11580.1 attracts ChiCom jamming but normally AM
programming, not noise. EiBi shows Turkish jamming but would also be
AM programming, if and when Dengê Gel land here among other spots in
the 11.5s+. BTW, 11580 was once WRMI`s only 25mb frequency, long
abandoned. WRMI total absence from 11 & 13 MHz bands is really
strange, as would be much better than 9 MHz in daytime (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

THE TINY TRAP

``Taiwan - this tiny island``, says Fareed Zakaria in his concluding
commentary on an otherwise excellent CNN program, `Taiwan - Unfinished
Business`, ``of 24 million people``. TINY? Come on, neither by area
nor pop, unless Tiny has a wholly different meaning

Logs
** CANADA. 15034 USB, March 10 at 0053, Trenton Military is still on
and receiving reports; EiBi shows 1100-2400, with 6754 USB at
2310-1100; but is there only one transmitter? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. JBA carriers with FE Doppler flutter in OOB ranges + 18 & 21
MHz bands, March 10 at 0052: 14980, 15920, 18900, 21530. Stronger
flutterers with some Chinese modulation: 18970 S3/S6, 21490 S2/S4, and
21800 which cut off after 0100* timesignal. Then I recheck the others
and they`re all gone too. No doubt jammers against Sound of Hope or
something. Quite a few other inband signals of similar quality (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 9650, March 10 at 0048, music and RHC IDs in Spanish, S6/S9.
11760 is off, but 15230 is on at S3/S4 seems same but
suppressed/distorted = suptorted modulation. Nowhere else found until
at 0111, 6000 S9+20/30 but JBM; and deadair or maybe JBM on 6180,
S9+20, presumably failing to relay China. And 5025 Rebelde is AWOL at
0108. Some things always wrong at RHC, RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. 15140, March 10 at 1932 check, RHC English, S7 into Maryland
SDR, thus confirming that as a Running Dog of Yanqui Imperialism, Cuba
has advanced to EDT on the same date as their detested escapees in
Miami; so much if not all RHC programming, transmissions a real UT
hour earlier, to the extent that there be any ``schedule``. 11760 not
on, and one never knows whether 15140 will be. Something`s always
wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TIBET [non]. 11734.80, March 10 at 0105, something S4/S7 but JBM;
first guess would be Korea North, but not sked until 0300. Nothing at
this time in Aoki, but EiBi shows Akashvani in Tibetan and ChiCom
jamming. Bad mod and inaccuracy favor INDIA. Only one signal; maybe
jammers correctly figured that was unnecessary. VU2JOS confirms
``11735`` is the current AIR Tibetan frequency, from Delhi (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 245 MCW kHz, March 10 at 0724 UT, ND beacon struggling
against OG&E noise level, something new/unusual. Call maybe FU, but
can`t be sure. The closest match in RNA list is: FS, 100 or 300 watts
`Rokky`, Sioux Falls, SD. I logged once before, Sept 6, 2022 at 0642
UT when it was listed as 400 watts, as still per dxinfocentre.com.
Another 245 possibility now would be HU, Terre Haute IN (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. 4875 USB, March 10 at 0109, Airforce MARS type net with NCS
asking about relays. Net designator: 4TX1 - does that refer to Texas?
Sounds familiar; yes, my previous log from 2021y: ``UNIDENTIFIED.
4875-USB, Oct 10 at 0046, MARS net designator 4IX7, and some
Airforce-type calls like AFZ4W#`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2233 monitoring: confirmed UT Sunday March 10
at 0100, S9/+10 direct on WRMI 9955 with Cuban pulse jamming audible
underneath. From next week: 0000 UT Sunday.

Also confirmed UT Sunday March 10 at 0514 about 3 minutes into so
started circa 0511 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, S9+15/20. The Houston
hamsat net playback from March 5 did not start until 0400 UT, an hour
later than nominal 9 pm CST. From next week: WOR at nominal 0315v
UT.

Not confirmed Sunday March 10 at 1030 on WRMI 9955: I happen to awaken
just then and hear instead TOMBS before and after 1030 //5890 WWCR.
WOR should have earlied from 1130 to 1030 UT to stay at 6:30 am ET --
but closer inspexion of the skedgrid shows System B is now on Internet
only until 1100.

If you have WRMI skedgrid bookmarked, it still goes to the old B23
one. The new ``A24`` one, jumping that gun, restoring Xmtr 2 and
Tuesday columns, is at a different google spreadsheet link you need to
reach from here: https://www.wrmi.net/index.php/programming/

** U S A. 960, March 10 at 0119 UT, during a TA 9/kHz -1 bandscan, I
notice no slop from local KGWA Enid upon 953 or 962 kHz, is it off?
No, it`s on but dead air. Its 100.9 translator tail wagging the 960
dog is also silent. Immediately I deploy my altazimuth wrist-mounted
DX-398 to null what`s left of KGWA. There are several weak stations,
but one is slightly more dominant. KGWA blasts back on at 0130 with
adstring and weather, 0133 back to dead air. So I resume listening
intently trying to pull some IDable info. It`s basketball with a team
named Tigers, low score so far, 11-11; mentioned Kansas?, and at two
different times worldunion.com? in ad. Must not be that as it`s
something in Shenzhen, China, and the website is nothing but a
placeholder. 0200 UT, KGWA blasts on again with legal ID as ``Talk
100.9``, AM 960 an afterthought, and Townhall News until 0206 legal ID
again, twice, 0206.6 fraxion of a word from whatever far-right
extremist network talk program is supposed to be on, and back to DA.
THN not among the nets listed for KGWA in NRC AM Log.

Among other 960s I`ve heard before during KGWA`s `Fox-hole` at local
midnight a few years ago are KGKL San Angelo TX, and KNEB Scottsbluff
NE, but searching on those does not find any Tiger games now, or ever.
It`s far too common a team name. A better possibility is KZIM Cape
Girardeau MO. Its website is inconclusive, but at 0238 UT the stream
is carring a Mizzou Tigers vs LSU game, so that`s it! KZIM is also at
a more favorable angle than the others to take advantage of KGWA`s
null. KGWA has been on an STA of 250/250 U1 which expires March 19
unless renewed again; otherwise 1000/1000 U3. Maybe that help such DX
a little. It was reading only S9+10/20 from a few miles away, or 1.61
times as many km. KZIM, 500 watts night, has a pretty good ``butterfly
wing`` lobe thisaway; notch to the NW so not protecting KGWA at all
(Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, March 10 at 0118:
855-2 and 1098 are the onlies I can outmake, surely Spains and UK
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 5990-5995-6000, March 10 at 0718 UT, noise blob but does
not sound like DRM. Ordinarily would hear at least remnant of MALI
5995 AM; out of order? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
