Estación Tarapoto, 5014.7 kHz  DX news

Radio Estación Tarapoto is situtated in the city of Tarapoto in the Department of San Martín. The region has a tropical climate with 40 degree centrigrade temperatures quite common and frequent, unforseeable torrential rain storms. Tarapoto is a dynamic commerical city and is the capital for commercial activities in San Martín.
The station, "La primera opción en radio", is a relatively young entereprise. For eight years, Estación Tarapoto has broadcast a variety of programs for the region simultaneously on three frequencies. On shortwave, the station can be heard on 5015 kHz with 700 watts. The call letters are OAX9K. A third channel on FM broadcasts on 101.3 MHz.

The broadcast day commences at 1000 UTC and ends at 0500 UTC. The station is proud of its news and public affairs programs. La Mañana en la noticia is broadcast from 1100-1300 UTC each day. Another program, El mundo en acción, features a variety of music styles heard throughout the country.
The station's gerente, Luis Hidalgo Sánchez, is a good verifier of listernes reports. Spanish language reports with return postage can be sent to the station at:

(Richard A. D'Angelo, NASWA Journal, August 1993)

The station has drifted between 5014.7-.8. On Oct. 14 newscast "La Mañana en la Noticia" (TIN) 5016.7v in mid-September but usually on 5014.8, so reports saying this is R Jualiaca seem a bit exaggerated. Occasionally, before the morning news at 1100, there's a 10-15 relay of R Exterior de España. On 16/8 I noticed that the one-cue of the news was in the form of a huayno:
A continuación ofreceremos
las noticias frescas emanadas
del informativo más completo
que haya llegado hasta sus casas
!que emocíon!
Y ... !atentción!

This incredible huayno was followed by a canned announcement by the station manager himself saying "Es dura y dificil nuestra tarea de vivir con honor en la región San Martin" (this may be a reference to the drugs trade).
"Estación Tarapoto primera opción en radio, con sus tres frecuencias simultáneo, apertura une nueva edición de La mañana en la noticia".
