Glenn Hauser logs September 30-October 1, 2025 |
|
Thursday, October 02 2025
** CUBA. 13780 S5/S6 JBA, 11760 S8/S9 undermod Spanish, and 15230 dead air, Oct 1 at 1451-1452, RHC where something`s always wrong (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** EAST TURKISTAN. 15245.0, Oct 1 at 1514, CRI in English, S5/S6 with Doppler flutter, but the best signal on band, i.e. Kashgar for WEu this hour only. If you hear a signal around 15245.244, as I measured it May 31, it`s North Korea, long hours for Europe, supposedly also with English this hour, but no sign of it now (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** ESWATINI. 9585, Wed Oct 1 at 1454, TWR tinkling IS S5/S6, Eswátini ID, 1455 music and language, listed as Malagasy on M-F, French on S/S. Probably long-path across Indian & Pacific Oceans (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** FRANCE. 17545, Oct 1 at 1512, JBA carrier direct; at 1519 into Maryland SDR, S5/S7 marine weather in English for Mini-TransAt (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** OKLAHOMA. Don Moore in Illinois reported this to the MARE Tipsheet in September: ``On Wednesday morning I took the mobile DX shack to the Old School Forest Preserve in Libertyville, about a half-hour north of where I'm staying in Skokie. There is a picnic shelter there with no power lines within 250 meters so it is very quiet. I primarily wanted to check for the Oklahoma and Missouri secure net tests, which had been posted to UDXF. The Oklahoma net operates at 0900 a.m. local time and the Missouri one at 0930 a.m. local time. Primary frequency is 5140 with 7477 as the main alternate. Per the anmt, the Missouri net is only on the first and third Wednesdays of the month.``
So on the first Wednesday of October, Oct 1 I am tuned to 5140 USB just before 1400 UT. I do hear a number of checkins, but most JBA. All callsigns start with W plus 3 letters and 3 numbers. Generally given with fonetix, but poor reception and swiftness make them hard to copy accurately. First one has a good signal, WQBY?-something in Beckham County, such as Sayre near the TX panhandle border. Some YL voices, and first names mentioned such as Bill, as they apparently know each other. Fragments I could copy: Pottawatomie, county which is SE of OKC. 3921. WNCH624 Tulsa. WNBE830. Any additional checkins for Oklahoma Operational ----? At 1410, WQYK443, WPFY---, Ernie. Nothing heard after 1415 so I quit at 1417. At 1430 I have a JBA signal, presumably the Missouri net starting. Don has a lot more info about that, link to a 417-page pdf, slightly outdated from 2014y including around page 375:
https://core-docs.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/documents/asset/uploaded_file/4319/CBM/3591786/complete_emergency_operations_plan.pdf
APPENDIX 3 AUTHORIZED RACES FREQUENCY LIST DURING WARTIME EMERGENCY SITUATIONS In the event of an emergency that necessitates the invoking of the President’s War Emergency Powers under the provision of Section 706 of the Communications Act of 1934, as amended, only RACES stations and amateur stations participating in RACES may transmit on the following frequencies:``
All conceivable local, county, state and federal military and non-military agencies seem to be involved. I would sure like to get a current equivalent for OK.
On UDXF, here`s an old log from Jack L. Metcalfe: ``5140.0 WPFY721, Oklahoma Emergency Management Agency EOC at the National Guard Armory, Seminole, OK as net control in a very, very weak weekly roll call. Stations heard, but just above the noise floor: 1401 UTC in USB voice (26/MAR/2014) (JLM)`` That was the 4th Wednesday of the month (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)
** POLAND [non]. 17790, Oct 1 at 2159, WRMI VG direct and // 15770 in gospelhuxter. 2200 they split, 15770 into Taiwan in Spanish, and 17790 again with Polish Radio External Service as sked on WRN. WRMI xmtr sked shows 17790 off after 2200, but System E WRN shows that hour on 17790 as well as 5050, 5950 and 7570, all of which are really OFF when checked into Georgia remote at 2223, while the hour-long PRES English still goes past 2233 on 17790, so is this an error or not? Anyhow this is much more listenable than Spain`s weekly English at clashing time due to fading and accent.
2204 news of a new refund/recycling program for containers, bottles of plastic, metal or glass with specifications; French climber of tallest building in Warsaw, Europe? 310 meters, charged for doing it without safety equipment, may get a year in jail - not much climbing there, I suppose. 2205 ID and News from Poland to continue another 15 minutes.
Commenting on my previous PRES 17790 log, Uncle Bill Tilford says, ``Polish Radio, which I mention in my next Shortwave Program Spotlight {NASWA Journal}, deserves to be triaged in any WRN relays via WRMI. The nuances of Polish relations with Germany, Ukraine, Belarus and NATO generally are as intricate as they are sobering, and the station captures all that better than western media.``
Other PRES times on WRN N American stream, and maybe also on SW via some WRMI: daily 0300-0400, 0700-0800, 1800-1900 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** PUERTO RICO. 391 MCW kHz, Oct 1 at 0626 UT, DDP, 2000-watt NDB at San Juan/Dorado, Luis Muñoz Marín Intl airport, the only Caribeacon I ever hear - but not for a long time, last logged March 7; are there any others still active? Enhanced southerly prop, and local noise level low enough (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** SPAIN. 17715, Wed Oct 1 at 2159, REE S9+10 direct, weaker than usual, and trace of 15390 only for weekly English from 2200. Still Marilyn Quintana only, ``live at 12 pm``; due to accent and fading, hard to copy clearly unlike Poland via WRMI 17790, q.v. She previews something about 17 weeks, Cervantes, Lebanon correspondent. 2202.6 starting news of week, tRump & Gaza. Maybe I`ll listen to podcast later (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** TURKEY. 11785, Oct 1 at 2158, no signal direct from VOT. Not checked UTwente until 2253, maybe too late, yet locked onto 11785.011 until 2255* tho nothing but noise audible. Erroneous at Emirler? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 28250 CW, Oct 1 at 2210, slow beacon, READ BIBLE .-.-- DE KI6MTV/B - I`ve hunted and hunted for that middle symbol in Wikipedia and can`t find it: what`s it? Possibly combo of two letters not noticing a pause, like: RM or AW?
WGB list: ``28250.0 KI6MTV/B - Shingle Springs CA USA CM98mq - #0 (06 Nov 2024) Note: ID only - Slow keying``
QRZ.com: ``KI6MTV USA flag USA, Michael R Hislop, PO BOX 121, SHINGLE SPRINGS, CA 95682, USA --- Hey, if you hear my beacon, (28.250 mhz) send me a message. I would like to hear from you. Don't forget to tell me the location where you heard the beacon. Thanks, Mike`` Shingle Springs is east of Sacramento on US 50 on the way to Placerville (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2314 monitoring: confirmed Tuesday September 30 from 2331.4 on SW Gold Radio, Germany, 3975.003, VP S7/S9 into UTwente.
Also confirmed UT Wednesday October 1 at 0030 on WRMI 9395, S9+5/12 into Knoxville SDR.
Also confirmed Wednesday October 1 at 1930 on SW Gold Radio, Germany 3975.000, S8/S9 into UTwente; and 6159.999-, JBA S8/S9 with RTTYditty on plus side.
Also confirmed Wednesday October 1 at 2100 on WBCQ 7490-, S7/S9 into Maryland SDR; 2123 into NH SDR, S7/9+5.
Also confirmed Wednesday October 1 at 2330 on WRMI 9395, S9+30/40 into Georgia SDR. Next:
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S; 1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160.
Thanks to Gerald T Pollard, Raleigh NC, for a generous seasonal check marking autumnal equinox to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702.
One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A [and non]. 13605, 11930, 11860, Oct 1 at 1450 past 1500, NO signals from R. Martí/LV del Trumpismo - probably due to US government shutdown. Had been reliably on daily tho still abbreviated schedule. 11930, 9565, 7335, evening frequencies also absent at 2354; altho a JBA signal on 7335, presumably CNR2 from Baoji site as in Aoki (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 15150, Oct 1 at 1513, WMLK still missing; and after 2200 still missing from 17525 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
UNIDENTIFIED. 5286 USB, Oct 1 at 1355, some traffic net with abbr`d callsigns like 8BS, most others JBA in S8 HNL. What`s this? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs September 30, 2025 |

Wednesday, October 01 2025
** BRAZIL. 28400 USB, Sept 30 at 2203, PU2OPR calling CQ. QRZ.com: ``PU2OPR Brazil flag Brazil, Jose Jacinto de oliveira, Rua Afonso Martos Filho, 294, Jd. Itamaraty, OURINHOS, SP 19904250, Brazil`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 6000, Sept 30 at 0510, RHC dead air or JBM? into ATS-909 portable. SAWA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 13780, Sept 30 at 1454, S7/S8 of JBM RHC Spanish; even weaker JBA on 11760 maybe //. 15230 with S7/9+5 of dead air. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 13780, Sept 30 at 2159, RHC in Spanish, S9+10/20 undermodulated; at 2210, 15230 is S9/+10 of deadair and 13780 S9+20 undermod. SAWA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** FRANCE. 17545, Tue Sept 30 at 1511, Issoudun with Mini Trans-At yacht race weather info, S3/S6 into Azores SDR but quite sufficient. YL in French with spoken rather than faxed weather maps. I can`t imagine how contestants could make any sense of this as their boats rock around. They are supposed to copy all this data and draw their own maps? Direxions N/E/W/S are obvious in coordinates, but every time she clarifies the letter with November, EEcho, Whisky, or Sierra. 1514 switches to English, with forecasts at least into Thursday. 1528 closing, ``happy birthday`` to whom? and song. 1528 French and English talking about a Portuguese song, ``à demain``. But songs with heavy beat keep playing for a semihour until abrupt chop at 1557*.
Unclear to me status of race which had been suspended due to hurricane. Anyhow the wx broadcasts continue. Previous few days others reported the broadcasts lasted only a few minutes from 1500. All the info here: https://www.minitransat.fr/ Evidently after a 9-day delay, restarted Sept 29 from Portugal bound for Canaries (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** IRAN [non]. 12025, Sept 30 at 2213, no signal of R. Farda via Woofferton. For the record: other reports of it being canceled earlier in Sept (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** MADAGASCAR. 9765, Sept 30 at 2215, S9+20 poorsig in Portuguese referring to a versículo, so a gospel huxter. Yes, MWV sked this hour, *much* weaker than SimulArabic on 11610 thisaway by coincidence. Was down for a day or two due to disturbances in the country (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** NORTH AMERICA. 6950 USB, Sept 30 at 2217, pirate music poor S9+10, Thunder Chicken reported here from 2037 altho not quite this late: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,151059.0.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** PARAGUAY. 28410 USB, Sept 30 at 2202, ZP9HTL working US stations in English. Only a couple other phonesigs audible on 10m, see BRAZIL. QRZ.com: ``ZP9HTL Paraguay flag Paraguay, Juan José "JJ" Rios Maciel, km9 Acaray, Ciudad del este, Paraguay`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** SPAIN. 17715, Sept 30 at 2157, REE S9/+10, VP and noisy direct, rather than usual bigsig, and 15390 JBA, still no 15500 & 15520; propagation disturbed (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** TURKEY. 11785.004, Sept 30 at 2158, VOT not off the air, but IS VP S9/+10 direct. At 2250 into UTwente when measured, VP noisy S7/S9 with music. 2254 s/off, 2255 IS, off by 2255.5*: rarely so horrible into UTwente, propagation degraded (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2314 monitoring: confirmed UT Tuesday September 30 at 0330 on WRMI 7780, S9+15/30 into S Texas SDR.
Also confirmed Tuesday September 30 at 1300 on WRMI 9955, S5/S7 JBA direct.
Also confirmed Tuesday September 30 at 1400 on WRMI 9955, S5/S6 JBA direct.
Also confirmed Tuesday September 30 at 2000 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1322.996-, S9 into UTwente across Europe. Next:
2330 UT Tuesday SW Radio, Germany 3975; 0030 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 1930 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160; 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW; 2330 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S; 1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160.
** U S A. 17790 S9+30 and unusually // 15770 S9+20, Tue Sept 30 at 2157, WRMI closing ``God Is Just A Prayer Away`` gospel huxter from Lynchburg OH. By next check 2208, 17790 is off, no PRES Poland via WRN like yesterday, and 15770 in usual Taiwan Spanish. GIJAPA is on System F redsked supposedly on 15770 only, Tue only (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 15150, Sept 30 at 1450, no signal from WMLK, just as there was no 17525 yesterday afternoon. And again Sept 30 at 2158, 17525 off. Something`s botched at Bethel (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
UNIDENTIFIED. 15460, Sept 30 at 1451, drumming and other music, S7/S9 the SSOB. Nothing listed in Aoki, EiBi or latest HFCC Sept 28, just Reach Beyond Australia at 1200-1400 only, in complex sked of S Asian languages in quarter-hour blox depending on day of week. This signal does reek of RBA anyway with TE advantage, high K-index of 5 and 2/3 at 1500.
Still going at 1630 as David Ross asks me about it - at 1635 playing `Somewhere/Someday` from W Side Story, instrumental, then jazz. I check remotes in India and Thailand, which are *not* getting it.
At 1648, UTwente has S7 in noise on 15460.013+.
Then I try TDOA, but only get two running, Brazil and South Africa, who declare at 1654, ``most likely`` FWIW not much, 39.50/75.00, i.e. somewhere in central Asia, like Kashgar? Off at 1700*, no announcements ever heard.
It came back on after 1800, again nothing but music, mostly jazz?, until 1901*. Others hearing it, suggest from inside USA, like a Greenville test (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 2325 UT September 30 _______________________________________________

Glenn Hauser logs September 29-30, 2025 |
|
Tuesday, September 30 2025
** BRAZIL. 11780, UT Tue Sept 30 at 0150, RNA/RNB S9+10 VG into Bonaire SDR but nothing on 6180, just wrapping up previous show for token English, continuing about a ``climate convention`` origin, annex-2 blox, etc., just a lot of bureaucratic blather. 0152.5 already wrapping up with credits, 0153 English & Portuguese IDs, 0154 same subject in accented Spanish. This is nominally UT Tue-Sat only, not M-F (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CANADA. 15034 USB & 6754 USB, as of Sept 29, random day and night chex have not heard CHR, Trenton Military for several days. Has anyone? If so please report (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** COSTA RICA. 28461.5 USB, Sept 29 at 2201, TI2CC calling QRZ in English, quickworking UStations; goodsig but the OSOB, not even beacons. And why is he bothering to split kHz? QRZ.com: ``TI2CC Costa Rica flag Costa Rica, Carlos Paez, COSTA RICA: BUT SEND QSL VIA: P.O.Box 025331, SJO 169221 MIAMI, FL 33102, USA - VISIT MY YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE:`` https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFK8xxOByoOeFTQioyxd7CA There are only four short audiovideos from five years ago (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 13780, Sept 29 at 2209, RHC in Spanish, S9+20 but undermodulated. 11760 JBA carrier maybe something else and no 15s. SAWA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** HAWAII [non]. 14300 USB, Sept 29 at 2217, KH6JRC, calling for checkins by anyone/anywhere with/without traffic, to Maritime Mobile Services Net. No replies heard but maybe he was hearing someone. QRZ.com: ``KH6JRC USA flag USA, JAMES D CLAPPER, 3716 CHURN CREEK ROAD APT D, REDDING, CA 96002-2903, USA`` - says he is originally from the windward side of Oahu, and NCS for this and two other nets. I was looking for activity on the Hurricane Watch Net, 14325 USB (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** NORTH AMERICA. 6924.9 AM, Sept 29 at 2212, pirate music at S9+10/20, which is not enough to overcome the noise level. Nothing reported yet today in HFU. After jumping thru hoops, searching on that offset frequency gets far too broad results to be of any use (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** POLAND [non]. 17790, Sept 29 at 2204, S9+20/30, news in English about Poland, 2206 ID as ``Polish Radio, weekday public affairs magazine``. But OFF at next check 2220. Error at WRMI? 22-23 UT daily is indeed time for PRES on WRN (BTW, link to NAm sked reaches one labeled Africa/Asia/Pacific, but has been identical to NAm for several years now, unlike Europe stream.) WRMI skedgrid for #7 on 17790 says finishing at 2200, and no WRN relays that hour. However System E sked indeed shows WRN at 22-23 daily on 17790, 7570, 5950, 5050 - the others I cannot hear, nor tell what`s on JBA 9955.
15770, meanwhile at 2221 Sept 29, is as usual in Spanish from TAIWAN, S9+30, with a tourism program dated Sunday Sept 28 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** TURKEY. 11785.019-, Sept 29 at 2157, JBA carrier direct from VOT; but at 2243 into UTwente when measured, only S7/S8 and cannot hear any modulation vs the noise level, very disturbed propagation (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2314 monitoring: confirmed Monday September 29 at 1931 on SW Gold Radio, Germany, 3975.002-, S8/9+5 into UTwente; at first not heard on 6160 but a non-locking weak signal, and RTTYditty from plus side; then, I can JBA hear the WOR theme on 6160, maybe undermodulated along with very poor propagation. Followed after 2000 by the daily lullabyes. Next:
0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to SW; 1300 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast]; 1400 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast]; 2000 UT Tuesday IRRS SW via AM Italia 1323; 2330 UT Tuesday SW Radio, Germany 3975; 0030 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 1930 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160; 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW; 2330 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S; 1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160.
** U S A. 17790, WRMI & 15770: See POLAND [non]
** U S A. 17525, Sept 29 at 2207, no signal from WMLK; propagation strange but should be at least a trace of it if on to 2230. REE and WRMI are well audible on 16m (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. WTWW: George explains the heavy spurs out of 5920 as caused by an inductor that needed cleaning, which he did, so it was OK the next night. Also, an out-of-service transmitter has been sold to someone who extracted it with a huge forklift and hauled it off, unknown exactly where but not a current SW station; maybe just wanted it for parts (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 5950, UT Mon Sept 29 at 0200, S9+15/40 into Georgia SDR, `Encore` via WRMI, a show I never miss, tnx to Brice Avery, Scotland producing an hour of classical music fortnightly. A great mix of the familiar and the unfamiliar, with just enough introductory info, but mostly music. This time, including `Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis`, by Ralph Vaughn-Williams, a beautiful piece that gives me goosebumps, until 0234. ENCORE IS A ONE-MAN OPERATION - PLEASE MAKE A PAYPAL DONATION AND HELP KEEP ENCORE ON THE AIR - Go to - www.tumbril.co.uk
WRMI and Channel 292 are very generous with their air-time but Encore still costs around 100 Dollars/Euros a month to broadcast. If you can - please send a small contribution to help Encore keep going.
THE DONATION BUTTON is on the homepage of the website - www.tumbril.co.uk - which folks can use if they would like to support Encore.
(Please don't be put off by the POWR security wall when using the PAYPAL button - it is a harmless requirement of WIX the website hosting service.)

** U S A. 9330, Sept 29 at 0602, no signal from WLCR/WBCQ; if paused for rotation before 0600 should be back on by now. Is on at next check 1456 but JBA in degraded propagation (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 5935, Sept 29 at 0546 for at least two minutes, dead air from WWCR at S9+50/60; that`s longer than it takes DGS for a cigar puff (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, on E/W loop, Sept 29 at 0530-0544 UT: tuning USB, 1 kHz below 9/kHz channels: 531, 585, 612, 657, 666, 684, 774-2, 864?, 882, 909, 1107, 1413? UNIDENTIFIED. 880, Sept 29 at 0548, Mexmx atop KRVN, whatever, plug app for sounds like ``La Pino Max``, or Mas, ``en todas partes``. Nothing similar among US stations in NRC AM Log. UNIDENTIFIED. 890, Sept 29 at 0547 UT, under WLS, unusually another talk station in English, can`t tell if religious. Possibly KTLR OKC daytimer. What is status of KDXU St George UT? Was U2 10/10 kW but with CP for U1 25000/108 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
UNIDENTIFIED. 980, Sept 29 at 0546 UT, Mexmxmix, rather than usual KMBZ Kansas City dominant. If really SS:REL, most likely KQUE Pasadena TX. Very few USSS and non-religious: most likely KFWB Los Angeles CA; but Mexico? IRCA Log has three on 980, but only one possibly active, XELC La Piedad, Mich, 5000/200 Radio Pía, unlikely (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
