Saturday, May 17 2025
** OKLAHOMA. 1670, May 16 at 2214 UT, Virtual DJ Radio, central Enid, audible at home, BFO revealing carrier is unstable tho sounds OK on AM caradio when closer to it (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)
** OKLAHOMA. 95.5, May 16 at 2015 UT, C&W music undermodulated with some hum, sounding mono but $ tereo pilot is on from Enid pirate peaking circa intersexion of Garriott and Cleveland. Long pause between cuts, no announcements (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)
** SPAIN. 15500 & 15520 S9+20/30 but 15500 sounds a bit louder, 15390 S8/S9, and 17715 S9+10/20, Friday May 16 at 2200, token English from SNR on all four direct, previewing a `special broadcast` about the Eurovision Song Contest, interviewing an EBU guy (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** TURKEY. 11785.004, May 16 at 2203, VOT English not off the air, but only S8/S9 direct = local noise level, unlistenable. 2254 into UTwente when measured, S9+20/30 s/off and IS first notes barely once to chop before 2255*, no finesse (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 28200.5 CW, May 16 at 2204, rapid beacon beginning with NST DE - not copied rest but no doubt N4WLO/B in Theodore AL as in May 13 log. But what does NST signify starting a marker? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Also confirmed Friday May 16 at 2231 on SW Radio, Germany, 3975.002, S8/9+10 into UTwente. Next:
0300 UT Saturday WTWW 5085 [resuming this week? see below]; 1430 UT Saturday SW Radio, Germany 6160; 1730 UT Saturday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160; 1930vUT Saturday WA0RCR 1860-AM [1900/2100]; 2230 UT Saturday WRMI 15770 to NE [NEW]; 2300 UT Saturday WTWW 9475 [suspended]; 0230vUT Sunday WA0RCR 1860-AM [nominal 0315; as late as 0400]; 1030 UT Sunday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast]; 1900 UT Sunday IRRS 1323-Italy; 2130 UT Sunday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160; 2330 UT Sunday WRMI 9455 to NW; 0030 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to SW; 0830 UT Monday SW Radio, Germany 6160; 1930 UT Monday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160; 0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to SW; 1300 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast]; 1400 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast]; 2000 UT Tuesday IRRS 1323-Italy; 2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 2330 UT Tuesday SW Radio, Germany 3975; 1930 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160; 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW; 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S; 1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160.
Thanks this week for generous financial support from Peter Robinson, Preston UK, via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com
One may also contribute by MO or check on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 17790, May 16 at 1452, interview with a preacher referring to ¿ moiradio@gmail.com, 9th Street Church of Christ, S7/S9 direct. In B-season there was an overlap on 17790 between RRI and WRMI, but HFCC A25 still shows WRMI starting at 1500, until 2100; and now the collision would be with Vatican Radio to S Asia in language segments, including Tamil at 1450-1510, but no sign of that here. WRMI`s own sked still claims WRMI-7 on 17790 starts at 1500 with Radio Africa Network still aimed 160 degrees at S America instead. Did they move it up to *1400 during DST without telling us? There can`t be too many ChoChs of that name? but search leads to Paducah KY, Fort Smith AR, Ballinger TX, Deming NM, plus some others on a 9th street at some intersexion. It`s the SSOB if not the OSOB (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 5085, May 16 at 0240, WTWW sounds distorted via this remote: http://kx4az1.proxy.kiwisdr.com:8073/ Checked since Arthur Pozner queried at 0238: ``[WOR] Is 5085 kHz having a modulation drift on the Lower Sideband?`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 5085, WTWW: George McClintock says he`s all set to air WORLD OF RADIO this week, UT Saturday May 17 at 0300. Meanwhile is awaiting delivery of a tube for the other transmitter costing $ 23,000, tnx to TOMBS paying its bill (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. Pre-`AAAWWW` WBCQs monitoring May 16 at 2354 into Maryland SDR: 7490 -71 Hz = 7489.929 S9+15 with FKB. 9330 WLCR PP S9+15/25. 5130 -85 Hz = 5129.915 IS & IDs from 2355. 6160 -72 Hz = 6159.928 othermx S8/9+10. 3265 off but strange QRM/N. Then I switch to NH SDR: 5130 -83 Hz = 5129.917, S9/+15 IS & ID. 3265 off. 6160 -71 Hz = 6159.929 S9+10. 7490 -70 Hz = 7489.930 FKB S8/9+10. Precise frequencies are exactly as displayed without trying to correct them.
0000 UT May 17 on 5130v Allan exclaims ``when in doubt start punching buttons``, and `WTO` theme, talkover ``ya know it is a really [illegible] thing``. And single word interjexion ``paper``. Brings up Angela on phone after usual fumbling. Yes, paper is tonight`s theme on this totally unprepared show. Has backache from working on a forklift all day. It`s getting windier in northern Maine. 0006 Freddy interrupts already with phone call; asks if Angela is in Florida - they won`t say for security reasons. I confirm is trimulcasting on 5/7/9 MHz frequencies; 0053 reading pirate logs of Free Radio Weekly #1520, which is last week`s issue - as if it just arrived. At 0100, 5130 cuts to music before he is finished. I switch to 7490, and he`s still going, plugging On the Media this week about Katie`s visit to WBCQ; and mandatory prayer, sorry, Hal Turner will have to wait. 0103 finally JIP that show (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 660, May 16 at 0603 UT, Navajo chanting as KTNN AZ is again failing to null toward WFAN NYC as required (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
UNIDENTIFIED. 630.04 approx., May 16 at 0605, JBA het against gospel huxter on 630.0, no doubt KYFI St Louis MO. Remember when it was rocker KXOK? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Another fruitless search for Es FM DX bouncing over and around us per maps: Kansas GW/tropo is still up, possibly blocking any `openish` channels, but some obs of note, May 15:
93.5, at 0157 UT ``Power 93.5, Wichita`s #1`` and at 0202 adding ``#1 for hip-hop and more``. WTFDA shows KDGS Andover KS, 15/15 kW, 114 m HAAT, format Rhythmic CHR. Ordinarily the KS I get on 93.5 is the further KKDT Burdett, 95 kW, 304.8 m, 248 km/154 stmi.
89.5 is an `open` frequency here between ACIs, usually nothing at all audible, but at 0155 UT a program outro is JBA but steady for ``Somebody Loves You Radio``, address in California, mention CSN so presumably a CSN = Calvary Satellite Network station. i.e. a relay of KAWZ 89.9 in Idaho. Likely one of these three closest: K208CG OKC 0.25/0.25 kW; K208GR Wichita 0/0.25 kW; or KJCC Carnegie OK 23.5 kW, 118.8 m, 157 km/98 stmi (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR)
UNIDENTIFIED. 4850, May 15 at 0639, JBA carrier like 3 nights earlier, probably Euro pirate as others were hearing modulation via Ireland remote (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2295)
UNIDENTIFIED. 105.3, May 15 at 1711 UT into caradio, dead air seems here, a tight squeeze between 105.1 & 105.5 stations. Could be either. KINB Kingfisher OK 0.93/0.93 kW, 254.0 m CBS Sports Radio; or KFBZ Haysville KS [suburb SW of Wichita]. 98.0/98.0 kW, 307.0 m, The Buzz, Top 40 (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. Tropo map https://vhf.dxview.org/ shows big blob over Enid extending to W Kansas, E Oklahoma, so UHF bandscan at 1505-1515 UT May 14:
DX Decoding; not taking time to explore subchannels: RF 31 3-1 OETA [KOET Eufaula] RF 20 19-1 KQCW-HD [KQCW-DT Muskogee] RF 14 8-1 ABC [KTUL Tulsa] RF 11 11-1 OETA HD [KOED-TV Tulsa] RF 22 23-1 KOKI-TV [Tulsa] RF 28 44-1 ION [KTPX-TV Okmulgee] RF 26 6-1 KOTV at 1545 [Tulsa]
BAD signals: RF 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 21, 36. There are still *no* RF 6 in OK, so must be KBSD Ensign KS = Dodge City, only one in KS. Takes some doing to show an RF 6 sig into my antenna for hiband 7+ and UHF only and aimed SE. There are however several low-power RF6 in TX, not LA (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)
** PERU. 21265 USB, May 14 at 2207, OA4CHA calling CQ in English, then QSO in Spanish. We had trouble understanding his fonetik for H but I guess it was hotel. QRZ.com: ``OA4CHA Peru flag Peru, Luis Enrique "Luis" Meza Alvarado, Calle Andalucía 207, La Molina, Lima 15024, Peru`` - but his ``latest QSO`` shown there was on 4-28 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** SPAIN [and non]. 17715 & 15390, May 14 at 2159, NO Signals from REE, must be off, while 15500 is S9+20/30 and 15520 S9+10. 17 MHz prop is OK since 17880 from Beijing site is audible - I had assumed it were Kashgar. The two REEs are SSOB along with 15770 WRMI. 2200, SNR token English previews something about Segovia; and San Ysidro en Madrid. 2201 news leads with scandal about leaked messages, the PM`s wife, and payoffs? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** TURKEY. 11785, May 14 at 2203, VOT not off the air, but JBA direct, insuff. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 28209.5 CW, May 14 at 2218, VVV VVV VVV DE K7EMX/B. WGB list: ``28209.5 K7EMX/B - Kearns UT USA DN39xp - #0 (02 Mar 2025) Note: VVV de + ID + grid``. QRZ.com page is huge, full of anti-Trump amusement: ``K7EMX USA flag USA, PAUL R LARSON, 5057 LOOMIS LN, KEARNS, UT 84118, USA`` https://www.qrz.com/db/K7EMX (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 25000, May 14 at 2205, WWV S9/+10 getting a sporadic E boost under 500 miles, also 20000 S9+20/30. Checked 30000 in case of a WWV harmonic at 2216, and there is an open carrier at S8, possibly local but slightly fading, no modulation (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A [and non]. ** U S A. Looking for sporadic E on caradio, but instead, extended GW or tropo boost in the afternoon, May 14:
94.5, at 1945 UT, music, strong, surely Es instead of nothing? Fades completely out, but back up at 1950: adstring for Endurance Insurance, Campingworld, Almond Joy, PlutoTV, ABCmouse.com/radio, mattress firm; 1954 finally ``Big 94.5 Country``, so it`s WIBW Topeka, 100/100 kW, 370/370 m HAAT. Not shown with an -FM suffix, despite 580 being WIBW always audible here day and night. 354 km/220 stmi
96.5, at 1946 UT ``your home for Royals baseball, 96-5 The Fan``. WTFDA FMDB shows KFNZ-FM Kansas City MO, 98.5/98.5 kW, 335/335 m HAAT. 418 km/260 stmi
97.1 at 1948 UT, ad for Diamond Springs Ranch, and plug for supporting KPTS.org, public TV for Hutchinson/Wichita. Is KBOB in Haven KS, between those two cities, 18.5/18.5 kW, 251/251 m HAAT, ``Bob-FM``. Sheesh! Never heard before? 168 km/104 stmi (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR)

** CHAD [non]. 15505, May 13 at 0629, JBA signal, OOFSOB, trying to decide whether English or French; but must have been Kanuri, as EiBi shows it`s R. Ndarason International via Woofferton UK this hour, and following hour on same via Ascension. Outdated? Aoki listing shows 9535 at 06-07 via WOF, 07-08 12050 ASC, both of which we used to hear (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 15230, May 13 at 2222, open carrier S9, trace of suptorted mod, probably Portuguese from RHC where something`s always wrong. Hear this more often in mornings than afternoons (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** NORTH AMERICA. Re my latest 7475 YHWH log: ``Hi Glenn - May 12, was a good day for YHWH (7475) reception, via Kiwi SDR remote at Palomar Mt. #2, So. Calif.; from 0405+ UT and still good at 0520, even with QRN (static). Attached remote audio. Ron (San Francisco)`` Howard (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** ROMANIA. Re Romania changes frequencies: RRI English at 0000 May 13 is already back? on 11620, not 9550. So temp sked over? See previous discussion:
[WOR] Romania changes frequencies: Eike Bierwirth Sun, May 11 at 1:13 AM: Radio Romania has changed many of its frequencies again. According to their website, this is because of a malfunction at the Tsiganeshti site:
"A malfunction has been recorded at one of the transmitters in Tiganesti, and we will temporarily be broadcasting on different frequencies." (dated 4 May 2025). The German section adds that the replacement transmitter is not capable of transmitting in DRM mode, while the Spanish section identifies the malfunctioning transmitter as BD 300-2 and the replacement transmitter as BD 300-1.
The new frequencies had been registered with HFCC from the beginning of the A-25 season but had been unused so far. The same had happened for parts of the previous season.
English broadcasts:
Western Europe 0530-0600 9750 1100-1200 17630 1700-1800 15180 2030-2100 17580 2200-2300 9740
Africa 1100-1200 17860
North America, East coast 2030-2100 17580 0000-0100 9550
North America, West coast 0300-0400 11620
Japan 2200-2300 15170
Note: No DRM, none of the registered frequencies for Australia are currently in use
GERMAN 0600-0630 11620 1400-1500 13740 1800-1900 11750
SPANISH to South America (no mention of other targets, not affected?) 2200-2300 15200 (new time!)
The websites of other language services did not show this notice, but may just as well be affected. 73! Eike``
May 11: ``RRI in English to North America was very well heard in Masset, but tonight at 0335 tune-in, just a barely there signal on 11620, the listed alternate, but 9740 is booming in as per normal with Jazz music. 73, Walt`` Salmaniw.
John A. Figliozzi: ``Could be wrong and hope I am, but sounds like this station is on life support, technologically speaking, as a shortwave station.``
``Why would RRI need to change frequencies due to a transmitter failure when an alternate unit should simply run the same schedule? This makes no sense. Stephen Luce, Houston, Texas``
``Simply different feeder line and wave matching circuit, from TX #1 or #2 -- towards curtain arrays / azimuth directions – vy73 de wolfie df5sx``
``I was assuming the antenna switching matrix could feed any transmitter to any antenna. Guess that is not the case for the RRI facilities. Stephen Luce``
``Apparently not, and such limited commutation possibilities are common for old facilities. In addition they also appear to have numerous antennas that can be used only on two adjacent bands, hence the frequency changes. The modernization in the penultimate decade was obviously limited to replacing the transmitters. And now they run out of spare parts also for what has been installed back then. Kai Ludwig``
But May 13: ``RRI came on 9740 with English today at 2200 UTC with a very nice signal into the Washington, DC SDR. So, still on this replacement frequency, and not back to 11620 yet. Harold Sellers, Vernon, British Columbia, Canada`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** SPAIN. 15500, 17715, 15520, 15390, May 13 at 2221, all four REEs on air and G-VG, unEnglish Tuesday (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

That might explain why Legends and WRMI 5050 were off air when I checked as in previous report: ``5050, May 11 at 0122, this WRMI is off; pretty sure I tuned across it earlier. Supposed to be on `Legends` at 0100-0400. Something`s odd at Okeechobee`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
UNIDENTIFIED. Re my 1549.82 carrier, reported from Europe as "1550 26.4 0230 OAM5M R Visión, Pisco"

Any Peru nowadays would be a helluva catch! — the other G H`` {Greg Hardison} (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
