[HCDX] More Info on Grayland DXpedition

A couple HCDX subscribers have asked me for more information on the Grayland
DXpedition, the attendees, and the antennas in use.

Our DXpedition was a follow-up to the relatively large gathering at
Grayland, Washington USA last June, when a total of 13 DXers gathered at the
Pacific coast for up to a week of continuous foreign MW and shortwave DXing.

The DXpedition's "antenna farm" is bordering the Pacific Ocean and adjacent
to a modest motel unit. The motel's manager is very accomodating to our
various antenna antics, and we are careful not to disturb any other motel
guests so that we can ensure future DXpeditions at this location.

This DXpedition was scheduled for the fall equinox DX period, and it
coincided with a stretch of excellent weather-- clear skies, cobalt blue
ocean, and temperatures around 72 deg. F (20 deg. C) each day. In attendance
over the three primary nights of DXing (9/22-24) were John Bryant, Don
Nelson, Walt Salmaniw, Joe Talbot, and Guy Atkins. Chuck Hutton joined us
for Saturday evening.

Other DXers (including Patrick Martin of Seaside, OR) joined us for Saturday
afternoon's informational discussion, which included photos and commentary
from Joe about his years spent traveling throughout 50 of 52 African
countries; various reports on receivers and DXing software; use of Minidiscs
in DXing; and a number of DX tips and techniques. Another highlight of the
weekend was an excellent Greek meal at Anthony's Restaurant in nearby
Westport, WA.
