Re: [Swlfest] "Discussion list for the Winter SWL Fest"

Council of Elders, eh? Have you looked around the room when at the
Fest??? If we had a council of elders, they'd either be senile or
bona-fide cadavers! :-)))

Seriously though, folks... Steve has it about right here. If you
make a proposal for a forum that is accepted, your "compensation" is
to have the Fest registration and meals fee waived. We think that's
only fair given the level of work that we know (because we've done it
before) has to go into producing a one hour presentation that the
attendees will find interesting and useful.

As a matter of policy, we do not issue formal invitations to the Fest
nor do we agree to pay anyone's expenses for attending. So, the
people you've seen from places as far flung as Japan, the UK or
Finland do so on their own dime. We like to think it's just because
they like coming and we really do appreciate that. Which we hope is,
in turn, reflected in the kind of event we--and all of you--have made
of it for lo these 19 years.

And, by the way, I don't recall our actually ever actually rejecting a
proposal for a forum. So, there you have it. Something to think
about for the future.
