OT: FM, Sirius and RCI (was: Re: [Swprograms] RCI Reception again...)

Nothing for the Philly region shows up for RCI relays when digging through PublicRadioFan.com.

Another option to consider -- even now -- is a Sirius satellite radio subscription. Yes, I know it's an expensive way to get RCI programming, but several RCI programs are sprinkled in the "PRI World" channel. An hour of "As It Happens" does appear in prime time:

(all times ET)

Ideas -- Weekdays 6 AM and 12 Noon
AIH -- Weekdays 7 PM and Tues-Sat 12 AM (only one hour)
DNTO -- Saturdays 1 PM and Sundays 12 AM
Quirks & Quarks -- Sundays 7 AM
Sunday Edition -- Sundays 9 AM and 12 Noon (two complete cycles, it appears)

Plus, if Sirius gets CRTC approval to offer its services in Canada, we in the USA will be able to listen to Radio One 24/7.

I don't think either of the NPR stations in Philly relay AIH. It is available in New Jersey but I can't pick up any of the NJ stations from my location in the Philly suburbs.

I was encouraged by the RCI response that they are considering a return to the earlier broadcast for next winter.

15180 from 2000-2300 is to be in EE but I have to say that it is a bit of a
challenge most evenings to hear this one. According to the info I have the
antenna is beamed to the south and I don't know why the reception here near
Philly is so poor. I wish 9625 CBC would make a change to their antenna
system as it seems more reliable at times. Of course you can turn to FM and
have a listen in the Philly area as one of the stations at the lower end of
the band relays the broadcast. 88.9 or something, I rarely listen to FM in
the early evening so not sure of the correct freq. Try around 8 pm

I have been slow with this but have now sent an email to RCI. If I hear
anything I will let you know. Are others on the east coast still having
trouble hearing RCI in the evenings?

I haven't seen or heard anything...would suggest you get in touch with
Bill
Westenhaver who manages Audience Relations for RCi -- Bill is pretty well
connected in the organization. His e-mail is info@xxxxxxxxx, which maps
to

Their broadcasts remain virtually inaudible where I live, just outside of Philadelphia. It is a real shame that RCI's excellent programs are going unheard. > > Sandy > > > _______________________________________________ > Swprograms mailing list > Swprograms@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx > http://dallas.hard-core-dx.com/mailman/listinfo/swprograms > > To unsubscribe: Send an E-mail to swprograms-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe, or visit the URL shown above. >
