Peru, 4810.00, Radio Logos, 1100-1115, Noted a male and female presenting

news and comments in Spanish Language. Heard mentions of "Lima" during

the news segment. Signal started out as a poor, but quickly faded

to threshold as the minutes passed by. (Chuck Bolland, March 15, 2013)

Australia, 4835.00, ABC, 1115-1130 Heard a male in Eng comments

until music presented. Can't describe the music accuracy except to say
it's not

Peruvian or Bolivian. Sounds more commercial and European. After the

song a male in Eng comments. Signal was fair. (Chuck Bolland, March 15,
2013)

United States, 5980, Radio Marti, 1118-1135, Noted a male and female

in Spanish comments briefly, then into music. At 1130, noted a canned

ID but missed the station's name. Following another tune, more

comments and news. Signal was booming in at this point. Many

mentions of "Marti" during news. (Chuck Bolland, March 15, 2013)

tf-8?q?FICCI Frames 2013: Radio's ‘understa tf-8?q?ted’ growth story  View Printable Version
Friday, March 15 2013

HCDX
On day two of FICCI Frames 2013, a panel discussion on radio moderated by Prashant Panday, CEO and executive director, ENIL, provided the platform for industry reps to talk about its growth story over the last few years.

Observing that the growth figure (around 10.5 per cent) according to the FICCI-KPMG report was below its actual growth of 14 to 15 per cent in 2012, Panday set the tone for the discussion.
Sharing a similar point of view, Harrish Bhatia, CEO, My FM, said, “We witnessed a revenue growth of over 25 per cent. The factors attributing to the growth included focusing on growing India that is non-metros. While most brands have been moving from big towns to small, we have done the opposite. I feel by 2026, the FMCG segment will grow hugely in non-metros. So I feel we are at the right place at the right time.”
“We grew by 20 to 23 per cent in the last couple of quarters which was mainly driven by monetising the FCTs inspite of having finite inventory levels. Even our client integrations and programming has done well. We now aim to be a GEC on radio,” added Harshad Jain, business head, HT Music and Entertainment. He noted that growth in advertising for the radio station has mainly came from retail players.
Though growth in advertising revenues boosted growth, smaller players looked at centralisation of resources for saving costs. "We did lots of centralisation in the music scheduling and saved cost there. Moreover, we were also amongst the players that fought for music royalties which helped us a big deal,” said Rahul Gupta, director, Radio Mantra.
Opining that radio was not necessarily a 24x7 medium, Bhatia said, "There is no need to play radio for 24 hours so we decided not to play for some hours and have also centralised the manpower for most centres.”
"Using technology in the right way can help save costs and there also needs to be a focus on collections," observed Asheesh Chatterjee, CFO, Reliance Broadcast Network.
When former ENIL honcho AP Parigi questioned panelists from the audience on how they intended to double listenership and use the power of the medium to increase advertising revenues, Bhatia responded saying retention of advertisers stood at 50 to 60 per cent. He added, "A lot of retail advertisers understand that radio helps them in engagement, and programming customisations are already happening which are leading to increasing listenership."
Chatterjee explained how a combination of television and radio were working for the company, where radio shows are also broadcast on the company's television channel Big Magic. "We believe that we are using the medium to create newer audiences and funneling them to our stations. Also, when we went retro in Delhi, there was an increase in listenership. So, programming changes do help," he added.
Touching upon the events side of business for radio, Jain said, "While events do supplement the radio business, it should be looked at seperately. Selling events to fill radio inventory is not the right strategy in the long run."

RAE ''english connection' 11710.9  View Printable Version
Tuesday, March 12 2013

HCDX

ARGENTINA/INDIA 11710.857 Now RAE Buenos Aires English program in the
clear at least here in western Europe, - but on more easterly Moscow and
Greece remote SDR units, RAE were heavily interfered of this AIR digital
signal noise to the mountain people on the glacier valleys.

AIR Nepali from New Delhi covered 11710.165 to 11719.945 kHz frequency
range, when checked on Perseus unit.

Nice Andean music for my alegria from RAE, similar also heard 5 minutes back
on 11780.0 kHz of R Brazilia program. Heard also Spanish from Buenos Aires
an hour ago at 0050 UT with S=9+10dB strength in Germany.
(wb, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews March 12)

CUBA [and others co-channel] Despite I had not realized some DST change
last weekend yet, - in Cuba ? Or US ?
Please Glenn or Arnie tell us the real exact schedule.

Noted RHC 11680 kHz at 0035 UT S=9+15dB in Germany. Speech to the crowd by
political leader about revolution, of course in Spanish (was NOT co-channel
PBS Pyongyangs Kim Jong-Un speech). RHC 11840 kHz towards CeAM had poor S=6
signal and were much fluttery in Germany.

RHC S=6 signal on 9810 at 0125 UT female locutora, bad mixture with
co-channel CNR2 Bussiness Radio in Chinese from Baoji in western China,
latter which was stronger - ahead.

5025 R Rebelde in Spanish phone-in program at 0128 UT S=9+20dB, proper
signal, and next door 5040 English from La Habana with little stronger
S=9+30dB, wonder when same NVIS antenna type used, from very same location
... ?

6000 kHz is bad mixture result now at 0135 UT March 12, since also TRT
Emirler Turkish night service requested this co-channel. RHC brought "Focus
on Africa" program and played nice music from Kenya.

6060 kHz RHC Spanish program, fair with S=9+10dB signal strength, deep in
our European night at 0138 UT, co-channel suffered by little stronger VoIran
Arabic from Zahedan site.

Poor on 6120 kHz at S=6 signal at 0140 UT, but covered totally by co-channel
CNR XJBS Uighur service PBS Xinjiang from Urumqi, western China.

Nothing heard on either 6140 or 6165 kHz, latter channel used now by BBC
Urdu service and an African mx station, - latter probably NBC Zambia
program.
(wb, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews March 12)

Others on March 11/12 noted

GERMANY 7315 AWR great signal in Tigrinya from Nauen M&B, sermon on Isreal
..., brokered at 0315 UT, requested 03-0330 UT. S=9+45dB powerhouse.

CEYLON 7189.795 SLBC Ekala bcast at S=6-7 level, in otherwise free
channel, Hindi program at 0200 UT.

9770.203 SLBC English comment on income and Unions, S=8-9 at 0202 UT, audio
was NOT CLEAN, bad final tube circuit?

11904.993 Nice subcontinental music in Hindi program at 0210 UT March 12,
S=9+15dB here in Germany.

And surprise, surprise, 15 MHz made it into Europe on this DEEP night,
15744.991 kHz, English sce at S=6 level, at least above threshold level,
so understand the language.
(wb, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews March 12)

TAJIKISTAN 7245 I was too early, noted only carrier from Yangi Yul site
near Dushanbe, 0148 to 0200 UT S=9+25 proper signal, but accompanied
by 4 BUZZ peaks on +/- 300 and 600 Hertz each. Scheduled from 0200 UT.
(wb, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews March 12)

USA 9264.959 WINB S=9+15dB signal in Stuttgart, machine gun pastor
prayer - oooh my God -, at 0108 UT March 12, S=9+15dB and fluttery.

more upper side band signal with carrier.

5830 WTWW English religious program at 0132 UT March 12, fluttery but
S=9+20dB, male prayer. Suffered by co-ch UTE wideband digital station

Subject: [dxld] RAE ''english connection' 11710.9

The first 1/2 hour of the Radio Argentina International english service
,1:00- 2:00 utc, is blocked now by AIR Nepali service in DRM from 1:30 to
2:30 utc. I often listened to the RAE english program on the Twente
receiver for its good clear signal. I haven't been able to actually copy
RAE on 11710 for years & this was a good alternative. I guess the last 1/2
hour will still be audible on Twente. Nepali in DRM,eh?...pretty huge
audience for that I guess.
