Re: [IRCA] Lightning strikes map

Just to clarify that I didnd't mean that lightning,
storms, et al, do NOT cause e-skip, just that so
little has actually been proven, established
scientifically, as fact.

I've also noticed a frequent correlation. I've had
opeinings open up and shut down with the beginning and
end of storms, but every time I see a possoble
pattern, something tosses in a monkeywrench.

My suspicion - and only a hunch - is that there are
numerous factors causing e-skip, perhaps in variaous
forms of combination with one-another; and I also
suspect there may be different kinds of e-skip - or,
rather, different causes and slightly different end
results.

I already distinguish in my logbook between late-night
(usually) openings, which tend to be northern-focused,
and seem to coincide with aurorae; and the more
run-of-the mill daytime openings that seem to involve
more of our continent. But, again, this is all a
hunch.

I've also heard DXers weigh in on links between VHF
(TV-FM) e-skip and AM conditions. I really wish we
knew more. There are, apparently, a handful of experts
there ... at a university in southern Alberta,
possibly Lethbridge, from what I recall.
