Glenn Hauser logs September 3-4-5, 2018  View Printable Version
Wednesday, September 05 2018

Logs
** ANGUILLA. 6090, UT Tue Sept 4 at 0557, CB is off again (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ASCENSION. 6005, Sept 4 at 0604, BBCWS news in English from the
hum-mitter, as it has been humming right along for many months (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL. 11855.72, Sept 3 at 0100, Brazuguese from R. Aparecida, QSY
back to ``normal`` off-frequency from venture a kHz higher (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 9570, Sept 3 at 0056, relay of CRI English with LL: Chinese,
disposable hour-ending fragment. Unusually, also has ACI from Cuban
jamming against vacant Martà frequency 9565, inevitable even with
9570-USB tuning. Cubans vs. Cubans! (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** CUBA. 6100, Sept 3 at 0557, RHC English seems off, or it may be the
JBA carrier, incomparable to others: 6165 S9+10+, 6060 S9+20/30, 6000
S9+10 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 6165, 6100, 6060, 6000, Sept 5 at 0545, all four RHC English
frequencies with good strength and modulation!!! At last an
opportunity to say something`s not wrong!

Until 0549 when I notice all four have dropped to dead air, still at
0552, when the Cuban Fifth, 5040 is, too. Something`s always wrong at
RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NIGERIA. 7255-, Sept 4 at 0602, VON is on again (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6959.95, Sept 3 at 0046, JBA carrier, off-frequency
previously linked to Radio Illuminati. Now several 6960 unID reports
including some interesting SSTV images at
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,45645.0.html
One image captioned ``Sprokets Radogram [sic] Show #3``, and PRRL logo
after ARRL design. ``In Rocket Chat azimuth coordinator says that he
is testing a new transmitter`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PALAU. 9960, Sept 5 at 1433, S9 undermodulated choral music with
hum. Furusato no Kaze via T8WH is scheduled this semihour only, while
HBN is on 9965 until 1430 and after 1530; why the shift? Seems like
World Harvest Radio may have defaulted to some of its own fill music
instead of the North Korean clandestine originating in Japan about
abduxions (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGSEST)

** U S A. 8137-USB, Sept 5 at 1318, VP signal partially readable,
marine weather info in live conversational tone, sounds like WCY
Marine Weather Center, Lakeland, Florida, which I used to hear on
12350-USB. Probably QSY to lower frequency for degraded propagation.
1323 contact with a subscriber, ``Papa Whisky``. Yes, 8137 is another
WCY frequency, per complete sked here showing both at once:
http://www.caribbeancompass.com/shortwave_2017.pdf
And by now there should be a newer page at:
http://www.caribbeancompass.com/shortwave_2018.pdf
For updates see http://www.mwxc.com

Found this during complete bandscans of the 8, 12 and 16 MHz marine
bands, hunting for any CW VVV or CQ ID markers, and not a one! to be
heard. (Nor for that matter, any in the intervening fixed bands)
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1945 monitoring: confirmed
September 2 at 2156, the Sunday 2130 on WRMI 7780, poor. Also
confirmed UT Monday September 3 at 0130.5 on WRMI 7780 very poor, and
5850 very good. Also confirmed UT Monday September 3 at 0315 amid the
Area 51 via WBCQ on 5130-, poor. WRMI 9955 a JBA carrier at 0330 UT
Monday September 3, but WOR confirmed on webcast and the immediate
repeat after 0400. Also confirmed UT Tuesday September 4 at 0030 on
WRMI 7730, VG. NOT confirmed Tuesday September 4 at 2130 on WRMI 7780
--- audible with Brother Scare // 9395, despite System D schedule
still showing WOR and variety of other programming 20-21 on 7780. //
5950 JBA carrier as usual, maybe WOR still there. Unchecked the WOR
airing of Tue 2130 on 5950.

Due to computer problems, WOR 1946 not ready until 0355 UT Wednesday
September 4, and it`s a pre-produxion containing:

Review of the Sangean WR-22
An American station in Honduras
Why does Station YHWH fluxuate?

Bill Turner struggles to keep KYND on the air
And XEWW 690 turning from Mexican to Chinese, communist?

** VIETNAM [non]. 7315, Sept 3 at 0050, VOV via WHRI in correct
language, stilted Spanish (SSS?), during second half of hour, instead
of English last time checked after 0130 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 13272-LSB, Sept 5 at 1439, colloquial Spanish 2-way,
wasting no time in uttering ``puta`` and ``conyo``, intruders with no
deleted New York Radio VOLMET in the way on 13270 (but Gander still
during the last dekaminute of each semihour) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

Glenn Hauser logs September 2, 2018  View Printable Version
Sunday, September 02 2018

Logs
** ANGUILLA [non]. 11775, Sept 2 at 1418, CB is OFF even tho it`s
Sunday, as their sporadic appearances continue. However, leaves 11780
RNA Brasil with no ACI (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 11980, Sept 2 at 0145, JBA carrier, probably RHC leapfrog as
IDed before, 11700 over 11840 another 140 kHz beyond. Also suffers
splash from huge dirty RHC fundamental on 12000. Something`s always
wrong at RHC.

12114.40, Sept 2 at 0146, JBA in Spanish, probably RHC, but I have
only one receiver handy at the moment so no // check. Then I find a
match on 11885.6, so that nails these down as spurs of 12000 RHC,
exactly plus and minus 114.4 kHz. Something`s always wrong at RHC
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENNG DIGEST)

** NETHERLANDS [non]. 5960, Sept 2 at 0125 JBA carrier, but not at
0143. Mighty KBC via GERMANY will move here next week at 0000-0200 UT
Sundays. Currently in Aoki/NDXC on 5960 is 100 kW from PBS Xinjiang,
Urumqi, East Turkistan at 2300-0257, tsk2. Current KBC frequency for
the last time this year, 9925, is also JBA carrier at 0143 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6959.95, Sept 2 at 0132, JBA AM carrier and still
at 0149 when I measure it. No logs in HFUnderground now, but a few
days ago Radio Illuminati was reported on this off-frequency (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1945 monitoring: confirmed UT
Sunday September 2 at 0336 on WA0RCR, 1860-AM, Wentzville MO, 14
minutes into show so started circa 0322; poor in storm noise level.
Next:

Full schedule for WOR on all outlets, not just SW; podcast linx:

(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5085, UT Sunday September 2 at 0601, WTWW with classic rock
songs, S9+30, presumably in ToH pause/news hole during `Southern Talk
in the Midnight` which has been running for several weeks at 0500-
0700; so I keep listening for the second hour to resume, but it does
not! Instead at 0609 still music, solo rendition of ``America, the
Beautiful``, then pulls the plug at 0612* off the air! STITM must be
gone again from WTWW. Own website
http://www.tennhills-productions.com/
Still claims to be ``from Tennessee`` and ``the great south east``
but references to WTWW have been deleted. Still has a logo for KCAA
1050 +FMs in California, but labeled as a ``past affiliate`` --- that
leaves only the 13-watt KYAH 540, ``Utah`s Talk Authority``, where
the time is given as ``10PM - Saturday Nights PST - 12AM CST``! What
does that mean? PST and CST are not observed anywhere except
Saskatchewan. Meaning start times? Had been at 12 AM CDT = 0500 UT.
So was the first hour anyway on 5085? It`s not mentioned at wtww.us
but IIRC hadn`t been during the period it was really on the air.

BTW, Kenneth Vito Zichi has been raving about the sound quality
during WTWW rock music shows --- altho very strong and wideband, I
find the distortion level annoying (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** VIETNAM [non]. 7315, Sept 2 at 0136, VOV relay via WHRI is in
stilted English! Not stilted Spanish as supposed to start at 0130.
It`s S9+40/50 with news of flooding, medals in Asian Games,
Indonesia (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 7299.5-CW, Sept 2 at 0138, contact not hand-keyed,
reply from a weaker station. What are hams doing with CW in this part
of band? Or intruders? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 13623-USB, Sept 2 at 1349, JBA 2-way in Spanish,
INTRUDERS (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 15292-USB, Sept 2 at 1414, INTRUDERS, good signals in
2-way contact, colloquial Spanish, mixed with totally unrecognizable
words, native language? At least I can make out ``puta`` (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

Glenn Hauser logs August 30-31-September 1  View Printable Version
Saturday, September 01 2018

Logs
** ANGUILLA. 11775, Fri Aug 31 at 1357, CB is off again after sporadic
appearances this week (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** AUSTRALIA [non]. 9265V, Saturday Sept 1 at 1213, Hobart Radio
International, The Voice of Tasmania, via Unique Radio, NSW, via WINB,
Pennsylvania. S9 with carrier wobble listening in SSB but not heard in
AM; 1226 some 48m Europirate logs with SINPOs, fading here to S5; 1230
Andean music during Unique Radio contact info and intro WORLD OF RADIO
1945, new relay which starts at 1231:21, until 1300:03 when Tim Gaynor
resumes his own show `Sounds of Your Life` with mailbag as his WINB
block has been extended to 1330, a.k.a. ``World community radio from
Australia``. So now SOYL is 1100-1130 & 1300-1330, with three DX
programs in between: 1130 `International Radio Report` from CKUT, 1200
HRI, and 1230 WOR. Thanks, Tim!

Podcast of the whole thing is at:
https://www.podomatic.com/podcasts/uniqueradio/episodes/2018-09-01T06_23_32-07_00
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BANGLADESH. 15505, Sept 1 at 1358, 1 kHz tone from JBA Bangladesh
Betar, 1358:31 IS, 1359:57.5 mis-timesignal ends 10.5 seconds earlier
than two days ago; opening Urdu (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** CHINA [non]. 13740, Sept 1 at 1403, open carrier, dead air except
for perpetual squeal, from Cuban relay transmitter; even carrier break
for a few seconds at 1404:25; finally JIP China Plus in English under-
modulation from 1406:39, having missed the ``news`` completely. Thus
the ChiCom continue to be shortchanged by their Cuban lackeys
attempting the relays (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 13633 & 13767, Aug 31 at 1329, trace of distorted FM blobs
from RHC 13700-AM transmitter are all it can manage today; something`s
always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA [and non]. 11860, Fri Aug 31 at *1400:43, Greenville cuts on
carrier late vs. jamming already running, joining Radio MartÃ
modulation at 1401:15 but soon dumps off air; back on with carrier at
*1402:07, and modulation stays from 1402:49, well atop jamming.

Thus RM concludes its third week on 11860, colliding directly with RHC
after 1930. Saturday Sept 1 at 1403, no RM as it rests another
weekend, but wall-of-noise jamming continues anyway; something`s
always wrong at the DentroCuban Jamming Command (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** KIRITIMATI. 846, Sept 1 at 0612, R. Kiribati continues to put a JBA
carrier in here 7200 km = 4474 stmi = 3888 nmi away (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 870, Sept 1 at 1210, I hear a bit of the Mexican NA by a
solo voice, 1211 some YL talk maybe unSpanish, smacking of XETAR, La
Voz de la Sierra Tarahumara, Guachochi, Chihuahua, which I have been
trying to confirm still on the air, but unheard today or othermornings
from nominal *1200 for a daytimer in the summer; apparently flexible.
Today at 1200 I was getting otherSpanish, surely KLSQ Nevada [see
USA]. The only other western Mexican on 870 is XEFIL in MazatlÃn;
neither is on Tim Hall`s roster of stations he has confirmed to have
left AM for FM (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NIGERIA. 7255-, Sept 1 at 0607, VON is AWOL again (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 7470, Sept 1 at 0437, YHWH is S9 but undermodulated,
in very strange conditions lacking anything extracontinental on the
band, stronger than weakened 7505 WRNO, about equal to attenuated 7570
WRMI and stronger than 7730.

Also vs. high local (line?) noise level at S7, but which peaks worst
at S9+10 in the 3.7-5.5 MHz range, rather wiping out any DX on the 60m
band. Below 3.7 it`s only S9, and by 9 MHz only S1. I can`t find any
household device causing it (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 515 kHz, Aug 31 at 0623 UT, NDB PN in Ponca City, a semi-
local always audible day & night, has developed quite a chirp, i.e.
pitch of tone wobbles as each letter is keyed (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1945 monitoring: confirmed Thursday
August 30 at 2330 on WBCQ 9330.15, fair --- first time heard on 9330V
irregular schedule since Tuesday August 7! But not 24 hours later.

Checking Saturday Sept 1 after 1431 on Utwente SDR for WOR on
Hamburger Lokalradio, 6190-CUSB, nothing heard until a trace by 1457.

Alan Gale, England, reports: ``Hi Glenn, Very odd propagation from HLR
on 6190 kHz today. It was coming in well here from around 1230 UT,
even good in the AM mode, but typically dropped down in strength at
around 1425 and was then up and down in QSB right till the end of your
programme, with just a couple of peaks in strength at around 1440 and
1450. I had to switch to CUSB to hear the rest of the info. I guess
that now we are into September we'll see the propagation on 6 MHz
changing a lot in the coming weeks.`` Next:

(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9955, UT Fri Aug 31 at 0322 on BST-1 caradio, Chinese music
I was sure coming from a CRI relay, until I heard in Morse code the
memory frequency tuned. After WRMI ID, 0330 on to `Sounding the Alarm`
gospel huxter. Announced date of original broadcast which was May 17,
2016; so here we are 27.5 months later as the world keeps turning.
Scheduled at 0315 UT Tue-Sat is `Moments in Bible Prophecy` --- so
that failed to default music fill (but not the usual variety of World
Music), or maybe the Moments occupy much less than the 14 minute slot?
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 870, Sept 1 at 1200 UT, Spanish loops E/W, only catch
``870`` in ToH ID, into sports talk, making SAH of about 9 Hz with WWL
remnant to 1207 UT fadeout. This all points to KLSQ Whitney NV (Las
Vegas), 5000/430 watts U2, ESPN-D. Official FCC September sunrise is
1315 UT, so should have been on 430-watt night power and direxional to
the NW --- but I bet it`s really 5 kW ND day pattern. No PSRA for it
is known to the new NRC AM Log. Of course I was looking for XETAR;
see MEXICO (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
