** VANUATU. 9960, July 3 at 0620, no signal from R. Vanuatu:
apparently changed frequency schedule again. Alternatives would be
3945, 5040, 7260, no longer harmonix on 7890, 11835. Later: Ron Howard
found out that a power outage knocked it off; when that happens, has
to be restarted manually after some delay (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF
RADIO 2302)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9340.4 approx., July 3 at 0618, RTTY instead of open
carrier, so now we know most of the time the carrier is just an idle
RTTY sender (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Logs
** BRAZIL. 11780, UT Wed July 2 at 0149, RNA/RNB VG into Georgia SDR,
plays intro AND outro for RNB International Service, then YL in
English with heavy accent, about RNA having started in 1974 after
plans in 1973 during the military dictatorship; wanted a radio station
that could speak to the world, some considered it a ``megalomaniac
project``. Interviewing some professor with voice-over translation. A
``defense shield`` during Cold War and RHC in Portuguese. Hardly
started before segment is over, 0153 Portuguese ID and into Spanish on
same subject, 50 years of RNB. This SS has a Brazilian accent. Called
SIRAP = Sistema de Radiodifusão de Alta Potência, from Parque
Rodeador. See radios.ebc.com.br. 0157 outro in Portuguese, 0158 s/off
announcement for SW and stays on a while longer (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CANADA [non]. Standing by before 0300 UT July 2 for Tony Pavick`s
Canada Day special of `Pop Shop Radio`, to be in DRM via Woofferton UK
on 11960. Not trying direct, as I have no DRM capability, but via
remotes W1NT in NH and KU4SD in Georgia. NOTHING, until suddenly cuts
on amid music at *0333. Parameters I copy down: AAC E1C240 C292
PopShop EEP Audio 11.64 kbps, MSC 16, SNR 21.0dB. It`s S9+20/25 into
NH.

Once it started, excellent reception, no dropouts, tho higher-fi would
have been nice. Anyhow, tnx, Tony for the enjoyable show, and long
live Free Canada! I made a few more specific notes for QSL.

At 0338, singing ID for CKLG. 0341 talking about Stanley Cup win in
1986. 0342 `The Consumer``. 0349, another sung ID clip. ``True North,
Strong and Free``. 0351, ``158th year of Freedom``, followed
immediately by ``American Woman`` song. 0353 mentions never will be
51st state. 0354 countdown and a ``Shortwave Radiogram`` which I am
not set up to decode either. 0358 ``O Canada`` played by band, but
0359 audio faded out; did not note when or if the transmitter axually
went off. Under the circumstances, couldn`t they have spared another
minute or two?

Meanwhile some discussion about this by others on the WOR iogroup
after I posted ``[WOR] No Canada Day DRM -- East coast remotes not
getting DRM or any signal on 11960 by 0304. Glenn``

``Unfortunately, nothing by 0319. Those short DRM blips I think are
just digital stuff; seemingly frequency hopping, so likely military.
One was there just now (0320) between 11920-11930, and 12060-12070 at
0321. I'm positive nothing to do with Woofferton. I know there were a
few of us really looking forward to DRM from the UK into North
America. Sigh!!! This part of 25 meters seems to be owned by OTHR.
Plenty of those intermittent pulses present above and below 11960.
Walt`` Salmaniw, BC.

``[WOR] Problems at Woofferton 11960 -- Yes, those little blips are
all over the show these days and nothing to do with broadcast DRM,
though some similar sort of digital messaging system. On 11960 I've
seen DRM attempt to start up at 03:00 & 03:13 but without success. A
couple of brief signs of an AM carrier too. I think Woofferton has a
flat battery in the DRM transmitter starter motor 🙁 Cheers, Chris``
Mackerell, NZ

``Tony, your call worked, as there they are suddenly. Nice decode into
Masset with occasional drop outs. Walt``

``Looks like things are perking now. Nice signal here in BC. Tony``

``Pretty awful parameters they're using though: 11.64k AAC?? Music
deserves a better bit rate and AAC+ or xHE-AAC encoding. The up-side
is I'm getting 100% decoding here in New Zealand. Cheers, Chris``

``At 0340, not so great into Masset. Too many drop-outs and stuttering
noted on my KiwiSDR. Tried multiple antennas, and none are giving 100%
decode. I do find the edges of the DRM signal strange; instead of a
solid vertical line down 11955 and 11965, it's more of a tooth-comb
look, perhaps degrading the signal. Normally, Woofferton should blast
into Masset, even with 80 kW DRM! Walt``

``Received this response from Woofferton: "we had a fault with the
transmitter at the start of the programme and I was unable to recover
it.
I had to call out an engineer to attend site to restore this by making
a manual switch at the site. We got the service up at 03:33 UTC, but
that means we lost the first half of the programme. Everything was
tested before and was working, so we need to investigate why this
happened``. Tony

``Unfortunately now, the signal is too weak to decode (SNR on screen
stating 4.7 dB), so no audio (0352), besides occasional stuttering.
Walt (Masset)``

Chris Mackerell in NZ decoded the SWRGs, two circular images look like
45 record labels.

From Jonathan Coles: ``Signal on 11960 started late, about 0333, but
was quite strong into Ottawa. Dream software reported SNR of 24dB,
slowly sinking to 14dB by the end of the program. No audible drop
outs.

Audio bandwidth with mono aac 11.64kbps was barely 4 kHz, arguably not
quite as good as good AM reception. Could we not have 10 kHz, even 8
kHz bw or stereo to demonstrate DRM's potential for superior audio?
Broadcasters shouldn't sell DRM short.

Thanks to Tony Pavick for putting on both Canada Day specials, but
especially for this DRM broadcast. We need more DRM transmissions to
North America. My setup is an AirspyHF+ with outdoor loop-on-ground
antenna, gqrx v2.17.7 receiving software, piping the Raw I/Q output to
Dream Radio v2.3``

Later, Tony Pavick reports: ``Re: [WOR] Problems at Woofferton 11960
---
In light of the problem with our DRM broadcast from Woofferton, they
have offered me a repeat broadcast. Therefore I'm looking at doing the
repeat at 0300 on UT Sunday {July 6}. That would be 11:00 PM Saturday
on the East Coast US. This was the further response from Encompass:

"Unfortunately, transmitter S91 failed to tune at the start of the
transmission and tripped out with an HT fault. The Control Room
operator in London attempted to remotely reset and command a re-tune
the transmitter, but this failed resulting in transmitter lockout. The
operator called out the standby engineer, who went to the site and
brought up a cover transmitter (S92) from 03:33 UTC."

Overall I do feel it was an interesting experiment. Tony``

``Pop Shop Radio DRM Verification
Hi Glenn, This is to verify your reception of the Pop Shop Radio DRM
special via Woofferton UK on 11960 khz at 0333 UTC on 3 July 2026
Please also accept this eQSL
https://www.w4uvh.net/Pop Shop QSL.png
{or #153 via:} http://www.worldofradio.com/QSL.html

Thank you very much for tuning in. One thing that is true about DRM is
that when it works it's brilliant when it doesn't it's absolute
rubbish.

As you may have seen, Encompass contacted me this morning and offered
me a repeat broadcast at no charge. This will take place on Sunday UT
at the same time and frequencies so that will be July 6, UT.

73s and best wishes from Canada -- Tony`` Pavick
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA [non]. 13605 & 11860, Wed July 2 at 2005, R. Martí still on
from Greenville/Grimesland and VG S9 on these two into FL remote. At
2155, still on 11860, 13605 is off and 9565 is on, much weaker. By
next check 2219, all are off including 9565, and no trace of former 7
MHz channels this early. See also USA: WRMI 15770 (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** NIGERIA. V of Nigeria may not be on SW, but is streaming. Alexander
Miatlikov in Ukraine says, ``It also works in browsers and multimedia
players, no downloading needed.``
http://server.vonradiolive.com:8000/stream

I bring that up at 1545, and it`s playing, but silently, quit at 1650.
But Arthur Pozner was hearing English at 1708, and so am I at 1725.
Old sked in WRTH 2025 did not show English now. Recheck at 1920 in
African language, maybe Fulfulde as originally scheduled. There have
been reports that VON plans to reactivate SW, last heard on 7255 years
ago. They have a huge rotatable antenna which fell into disuse (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 89.7, July 1 circa 2000 UT on caradio, I notice that KJTH
is in $ tereo again - or at least the pilot is on, not so sure about
the music separation (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17715 & 15500 S9+20/30 direct, weaker 15520, weakest 15390,
July 2 at 2200 token English from SNR, preview topix: air pollution
above legal limit since 2024, not good enough, yearly air quality
report; and July 1975, Beatles in Spain. 2202 news about a meeting
concerning corruption among socialists; first(?) wildfire this year
kills two. 2213 about police brutality at Beatles` only appearance in
Spain, with music bits. 2215 ID and on to air pollution, interview
someone from Ecologistas en Acción (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.019+, July 1 at 2156 into UTwente, VOT not off the
air, IS and IDs in English, S9+25/35, 2200 s/on and olds read by Efsun
which means sprinkled with garbled words, tune-out and I don`t have
time to listen further anyway (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.004+, July 2 at 2158, VOT not off the air but JBA
direct.  At 2234 into UTwente when measured, S9+25/35 with music; 2235
``with-you-every-hour`` promo, music; 2240 ``always-by-your-side``
promo, music. 2248 multi-lingual ID filler reel, music. Must have
uttered a quick sign-off when I was not paying attention; 2251 already
IS to 2253* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Quite a while since any long-haul phone hams on 10m from
Chile, NZ or Japan, but a few domestic beacons are appearing by

And several other weakons (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2301 monitoring: ``From: Richard
Lemke,   Alberta, Canada, the desk of Richard’s listening Post, Radio:
JRC NRD-535 HF (30 years of service), Antenna: random long wires in
the trees, WRMI:

signal,  July 1 UTC 2025 [Tue] (Lemke, Richard -AB)``

Confirmed Tuesday July 1 at 2021 the 2000 on IRRS SW via AM Italia,
1322.994+, VP S8 and noisy into UTwente across Europe.

Also confirmed Tuesday July 1 at 2330 on WRMI 9395, S7/S9 into
Maryland SDR.

Also confirmed Tuesday July 1 at 2330+ on SW Radio, Germany,
3975.002-, S9+5/15 into UTwente.

Not confirmed Wednesday July 2 at 1935 on SW Radio, Germany, no
signals on 3975 or 6160 into DL7APJ, altho UTwente gets something
inaudible vs noise locking onto 6160.317. Apparently off the air.
Maybe due to storms in Germany per Blitzortung. About its location
Winsen, in north central Germany:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winsen_an_der_Aller

Also confirmed Wednesday July 2 at 2100 on WBCQ 7490 -77 Hz =
7489.923, S7 into NH SDR, still following TOMBS who was rudely
interrupted at 2059.5 for canned ID. Next:

0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;
1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160.

Thanks for financial support this week from William Hassig, Mount
Prospect IL, marking Summer Solstice, a generous check on a US bank
to:
Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702

One may also contribute via PayPal not necessarily in US funds, to
woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Incredibly the WRMI programming page, now accessible,
https://www.wrmi.net/index.php/programming/
has nothing whatsoever to say about its #1 program, by
transmitter-hours, successor to TOMBS, `Classic Redneck Radio`! I
already searched out a bit of info about it, but who would want to
listen to a Redneck going on and on about ``Yahweh`` or,
``Yahwah``!!!! Gotta say it right, or this deity`ll get you for that
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

And this on the WOR iog from Mike Barraclough: ``I just saw this on
WRMI's Facebook page having done a search which came up with this
discussion.

https://radiodiscussions.com/threads/overcomer-ministry-ending-radio-broadcasts.776755/page-4#post-6823877

Then came across this 2023 recording of the programme, only listened
to brief sections. Started at 10 minutes, stopped when he mentioned
the Jewish Mafia and then that he'd heard that whoever he thinks is
controlling the country had identified 40 locations for concentration
camps in Massachusetts. Other short sections I listened to were
similar with this lady agreeing with him or adding to the discussion.

https://archive.org/details/classic-redneck-radio.-wed.-2023-10-05-t-04-17-20-z-5950.0k-hz

There's plenty of episodes of Classic Redneck Radio on BBS linked to
in the discussion I posted and on other podcast sites. Mike
Barraclough`` (via Glenn Hauser, WOR)

** U S A. 9955, July 2 at 0626, WRMI-3 back to usual lower signal,
S7/S9 direct compared to 9455 S9+10/20 with ``live`` broadcast of
`Classical Redneck Radio`, not QRMing Vanuatu 9960 (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A. 15770, July 2 at 1955, WRMI now carrying R. Martí, S8/S9
into Maryland SDR; still aimed NE, instead of toward Cuba? Peter
Hansen just pointed this out on the WRMI skedgrid for System C, M-F at
1930-2000. Reading point by point a memorandum signed by Drumpf. Also
shows R. Liberty in Russian on 15770 System K, M-F 0400-0430 - or is
it -0500, a blank field (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WTWW update from George McClintock July 2: both
transmitters are now operable, so hope to be back on 5085 including
WORLD OF RADIO UT Saturdays at 0300. TOMBS? He has received no notice
of cancellation on WTWW; understanding is that they will not be
renewing contracts, presumably expiring on different dates at
different stations. He thinx all TOM needs is WTWW which is available
24h, almost nondirexional, covering from the Caribbean to California,
Canada; and Bulgaria for Europe, but not as many hours or $ $ as
costing at present (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 660, July 2 at 0645 UT, C&W music dominates, must be KTNN
again not protecting NY: yes, 0647 ID as ``KTNN, Window Rock,
Tohatchi, Pinedale[?]`` - they always ID with two other Res towns
after W.R. Tohatchi is in NM just north of Gallup, but I don`t find a
Pinedale in either state (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU [and non]. 9960, July 2 at 0626, R. Vanuatu S6/S7 direct
and WRMI 9955 is weak enough again not to be a problem. After 0800 or
so when I`m never listening, it has ACI from the other side as Ron
Howard reports:

``A brief check of Radio Vanuatu on 9960, on July 2 (Wednesday); heard
strong QRM at 0846 UT; Hope Radio broadcasting from Palau with English
ID (T8WH, Hope Radio, Angel 5) and music on 9965. First time I have
noticed Palau QRM'ing. Ron, Asilomar State Beach (near Monterey),
California, CommRadio CR-1, external antenna: 100 ft. long wire``
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9339.6, July 2 at 0630, that mystery open carrier again
which 24 hours ago was on alternate 9340.4 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

From now and for an unknowntime, at least for 3 years, I will not use any radio except the remote SDRs forDXing. Recently we moved from the village back to the city in a space thatprohibits the use of desktop DXing, a place flooded by high levels of noise inthe LMHF bands. The radio is now used mostly for FM, for news listening.we runpolitically lively condition with always very interesting twits every day ..
