** U S A. 12050, Feb 6 at 1620, R. Católica Mundial, WEWN, reactivated
in Spanish with hymns, DJ announcements, S6/S8 direct. This was first
reported by Tony Pavick, Hope BC at 0040 UT Feb 6:

``Radio Católica Mundial is back on the air on 12050 kHz. In Spanish
of course. China ACI from 12045 & 12055. They appear to have left the
air sometime between 0045 and 0100 UT``

During my log it`s notable that neighbor WWCR 12160, at a similar
distance, is hugely stronger, inblasting S9+25/30. Nothing yet on
English frequency 15610, which I had heard with open carrier only, no
modulation. Spanish takes priority.

WEWN used to have some lower frequencies at night, but current HFCC
shows only:
12050 14-06 Spanish 155 degrees to CIRAF 11 & 15 with 100 kW;
15610 19-06 English  85 degrees to CIRAF 46 & 47 with 250 kW.

Strangely,  CIRAF 11 & 15 mean Caribbean/Central America, and SE
Brasil, but skipping the rest of S America. 46 & 47 mean W Africa and
central as far as Sudan, Cameroun.

Likely the real spans in each language will be less than possible.
Collisions resume: 12050 at 18-19, R Ndarason International for Chad
from Woofferton, and same 19-20 from Ascension; 12050 also with RFA
Tibetan via Kuwait at 22-23, plus CNR1 jamming of course. 15610
confronts CNR1 jamming and SOH after 2200, until 1600.

Into Bonaire at 1812, only fair Spanish on 12050, maybe trace of RNI
underneath. At 1927, Bonaire busy but SB do Campo, Brasil gets only
RNI Ascension. WEWN is still on, atop RNI into Maryland. No signal on
15610 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2281)

** VANUATU. 5040, Feb 6 before 0700, no signal from R. Vanuatu as
supposedly scheduled now, into several Australian & NZ remotes
checked, nor on 3945, 7260, 9960. And of course no signals direct
either (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2281)

Logs
** SPAIN. 9690, Wed Feb 5 at 2300, token English from SNR, VG S9+40/50
direct but zero signal on 12030 to ME; 17715 JBA and 17755 JBA
carrier. Preview topic to be about books; 2301 news leads with
Drumpf`s plans for Gaza (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2280 monitoring: ``From:  Richard
Lemke, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, the desk of Richard’s listening
Post, Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF, Antenna: random long wires in the trees.

Also confirmed UT Wednesday February 5 not starting until 0031 on SW
Radio, Germany, 3974.991+, further off-frequency than usual, S7/S9
into UTwente.

Also confirmed Wednesday February 5 at 2030 on SW Radio, Germany,
3975.003-, S9/+10 into UTwente.

Also confirmed Wednesday February 5 at 2200 on WBCQ 7489.93, JBA
direct. Next:

0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;
1730 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 3975.

Thanks this week to Moises Corilloclla, formerly of Perú, now of Rego
Park, NY, for a contribution by check on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, P
O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702, and says, ``Please take this humble
donation, a token of gratitude for all the years of dedication.
Wishing you the best for year 2025 and plenty of WOR editions!``

One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to
woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 7260, Feb 5 at 0700 and still 0709, NO signal from R.
Vanuatu, nor on 9960 at 0657. Checking due to this report from Ron
Howard:

``Hi Glenn - Radio Vanuatu remains silent through 0425 UT, Feb 5.
Since Feb 2, have checked 2485, 3945, 5040, 7260 and 9960,
with no results, via various Pacific Kiwi SDR remotes. So tonight I
sent off an email. Quick reply from: Warren Robert,
Manager Technical Services, But he only sent me the following:

VBTC HF SCHEDULE FEBRUARY 2025
VILA Time    UTC  Frequency
0600-0700   1900  5040
0700-1000   2000  7260
1000-1800   2300  9960
1800-2400   0700  7260``

And different lineups for January and March as if changing every
month. This appears to be aspirational (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VATICAN [and non]. Trying to unravel the true sites for VR Amharic
at 1530 on 15565 & 13830, Feb 5: 15565 already on at 1528 with IS, but
no 13830, which does not pop on until 1530. On two receivers direct, I
confirm they are synchronized, so from same site, listed as SMG.

Then I try to run TDOA direxion-finding on 15565, but don`t get it to
guess at a ``likely`` location. Perhaps others can try and succeed.
Could it be MADAGASCAR instead? Both are very bigsigs here in the
wrong direxion from the target area, unless they are aimed back from
MAD. One can also investigate signals in skip zones around SMG and
MAD. Arezzo in N Italy, 168 km from SMG, gets 15565 with some echo,
maybe backscatter.

After 1600 they are both much weaker direct, but still seem synchro,
while by then 13830 is allegedly switched from SMG to MAD, while 15565
allegedly remains SMG (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VENEZUELA. 4940 - 17 Hz = 4939.983, Feb 5 at 2356, S9/+10 into
Bonaire SDR, man talking in strange language, must be native, with
occasional Spanishish words like Jesucristo, uno, tres, past 2400 with
no break or ID, 2405 to song in unknown language too. So it`s Estación
4940.

Note that WRTH 2025 lists this station as in Rincón Hondo, Apure
state, 1 kW, no callsign, R. La Montaña, not as Estación 4940.
Previous DF led to somewhere in Apure state, and perhaps the exact
town is authoritative,
https://ie.toponavi.com/192748
but the Montaña name seems to have been that of a Colombian? program
it was carrying in the early days, not an ID. Sometimes it`s on air
all?-night past 0700, sometimes not. S American trop band stations are
getting really scarce (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
UNIDENTIFIED. 216 kHz, Feb 5 at 0701 UT, JBA carrier from some NDB,
unusual spot. RNA list shows only one anywhere: CO, `Epsom`, COncord
NH, 0 watts = unknown power, last logged 2024-11-14. DXinfocentre.com
agrees it`s the only one, 25 watts (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 13650, Feb 4 at 2309, NO signal from CRI ``Portuguese``

``13650 CUBA CRI (via Quivicán site) at 2300, carrier up on-the-hour,

taking official phone patch from an aircraft, 7-digit number I do not
report, preceded by DSN? instead of area code, but no ring or contact
before I tune on (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 28217.5, Feb 4 at 2301, beacon WA1LAD/B. WGB list:

** VATICAN [non?]. Re 15565, VR in Amharic at 1530, supposedly SMG
site but incredibly strong way back here, Gianni Serra replies to my
obs that MADAGASCAR relay would be more likely:

``--- According to Vatican Radio (VR) B24 schedules:
https://www.vaticannews.va/en/short-waves.html
VR 15565 kHz 1530-1600 in Ethiopian programme (Amharic) is via Santa
Maria di Galeria (SMG), Vatican (see schedules for Africa, as well as
VR Downloadable Global Short Wave Frequencies Chart)

--- I monitored on 15565, 02.04.2025 1525-1550 with s/on at 1526:44”,
VR Interval Signal loop, Laudetur Iesus Christus and some
announcements by man in German (presumed), music pause, and talk
program by man in listed Amharic; heard with FM like audio, with
always strong and steady signal in AM with aux audio filter (S9+25 of
peak); certainly from SMG site.

--- SMG site is in an area north-west from Roma, Italy, around 24 km
-14.9 miles circa - as the crow flies from my home in south of Roma.
73, Gianni Serra``

Missing/deleted in NASWA Flashsheet was an extremely important aspect
of my log of this, that at same time Feb 2, two ROMANIA frequencies on
19m, 15250 & 15370 were incredibly weak and with extreme Doppler
flutter during disturbed propagation; how could those be over similar
path from Europe while VR inbooms?

OK, if it has to be SMG, that further bolsters my original /
alternative explanation that VR is radiating at least equally off the
back of their SE azimuth, or even has their azimuths reversed. Hard to
dispute ``local`` quality reception in Roma, but note that if via MAD
to the NW, would also be aiming back toward Italy, and USA beyond.

More on this! From Terry Krueger, Niceville FL: ``13830, VATICAN,
Vatican Radio, Santa Maria di Galeria, 1550. 26 JAN 2025. Amharic
(listed) man, clear and fair. RV interval signal briefly at 1557. What
happens to this tiny and equally landlocked extraterritorial Holy See
property once Vatican Radio eventually shuts down? Retirement condos
for Catholics?`` and:

``13830, MADAGASCAR, Vatican Radio, Talata-Volonodry, 1600 26 JAN
2025. Seamlessly up after Amharic via Santa Maria di Galaria ends and
same level, supposedly in Swahili. Really via two sites?``

Unlike 15565, which is listed as SMG before and after 1600, // 13830
is listed as switching from SMG to Madagascar at 1600. More something
really fishy here (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9395, Feb 3 at 0721, S9+20 of dead air from WRMI-6, normally
SMTV at 06-10. I wonder when this happen, is there anyone awake or
awakened at site to deal with it? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1280, Feb 3 at 0800 UT, ID for 107.5 and news. Reverse
lookup at WTFDA FM Database finds one 107.5 as a relay of 1280: WWTC
Minneapolis MN on K298CO. Then checking NRC AM Log of 1280s: ditto,
the only match. Unusually, WWTC is licensed for more night than day
power, 10/15 kW. Radio-locator shows night pattern major lobe to NNE,
several notches oppositely including one rather usward.

Day pattern is similar:
