Logs
** CUBA [and non]. 6180, Nov 10 at 0227, S9+30 of dead air, CRI relay
scheduled 0100-0300. The first hour overlaps with RNA; Paul Walker
refers us to this about their own problems:

https://swling.com/blog/2025/11/problems-and-temporary-changes-at-the-shortwave-transmitter-park-near-brasilia/
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11880, Nov 10 at 1857, RHC Spanish, now this one with
windhowling QRM, and only S5/S7; 1902 late wrapping up daily ``11 am``
show = 1600 UT start. 1903 introducing French. 15140 a JBA carrier
only, and no others found into Ft Lauderdale SDR. By 2000, 11880 is
mostly dead air; heard a few notes of theme music, silence or howl.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA [non]. 15380, Mon Nov 10 at 1657 open carrier into Ft
Lauderdale SDR, R. Martí modulation not until 1700.7; from 1657 also
on 13820, 11930 but not 11860. By 1702, 11860 is also on, weakest. I
think they were totally off Sat & Sun (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. 1170, Nov 10 at 0702 UT, KOTV Tulsa full ID
also for HD channels mentioning KVOO! FM, that is. Of course the
original 1170 was KVOO, and its NBC channel 2 a great rival of KOTV
with CBS on 6. KVOO-FM is 98.5, ``The Bull``, country format. Seems
FCC LMS no longer provides a Callsign History link, but I think 98.5
used to be something else. Here`s the convoluted history:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KVOO-FM
With IBOC noise on plus side 1173 from KSL, as KOTV pays them back
with own IBOC noise on 1157. These are the main IBOC patches heard
around here from major stations, besides 1080 KRLD on 1093 & 1067. See
also USA for KSL log (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960, Nov 9 at 2323, only signal into UTwente is Chinese,

** U S A. 385 MCW kHz, Nov 10 at 0718 UT, HO, 50 watt NDB at ``Hossy``
Hot Springs AR. RNA list says exact site is Hempwallace, just SW of
Hot Springs. This time not mixing with UWL (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

November 9 at 2018 the 2000 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1322.996+, VG
S9+5 into UTwente.

NOT confirmed Sunday November 9 at 2100 on WRMI 15770, instead `Echoes
in the Ether`, which seems to be some kind of DX program, also taking
over the 2130 Wavescan slot, as now on the skedgrid for System D.

Confirmed Sunday November 9 at 2330 on WRMI 9455, S9+25/40 into
Georgia SDR, but by 2358 fading to S9/+10 with ACI from 9455.

Confirmed UT Monday November 10 at 0000 on WRMI 9395, JBA into Georgia
SDR, but S9+10 into N9AZZ Illinois SDR.

Also confirmed UT Monday November 10 at 0030 on WRMI 9455, VG direct
and on 7780 JBA direct, but 7780 S7/9+5 into S Texas SDR.

Also confirmed UT Monday November 10 at 0400 on Area 51 webcast only,
after JL Gotta Go and a string of F-bombs. Next:

out of 5085 WTWW which is S9+40/50 direct. Not heard those +/- 12.8
kHz for a while and wondered if fixed (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 660, UT Monday Nov 10 at 0240 UT, after C&W music, KTNN ID
for 660 and 101.5 FM - so finally back on air after almost three
weeks, why? Lots of QRM, so may not be totally non-direxional (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 970 kHz, Nov 10 at 0707 UT, ``Red Eye Radio on WDAY``... At
first I thought they said WGAY, but no such 970; nor WMAY Springfield
IL. WDAY Fargo ND is an RER affiliate. 10/10 kW somewhat direxional
but not nulling thisaway. The only nighttime notch is SE protecting
WMAY? if not KQAW Austin MN. WDAY site is certainly in MINNESOTA, east
of the Red River, so doesn`t qualify as an ND station. There was also
a LAH on the plus side of 970 attracting my attention (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1160, UT Monday Nov 10 at 0232, mid-break in `Meet the
Press` from NBC TV. I don`t see how this could be anything but KSL
SLC, but amid lots of stuff on website, no plain old program
schedule!!!! Nor do I see anything about NBC, a network I had never
associated with this station. Ideas? Furthermore, it`s NEWSRADIO
102.7FM, no branding whatsoever as 1160AM - they might as well turn it
off? See also OKLAHOMA KOTV log (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

The mention of the "Lorenz-Schlüsselmaschine was also interesting.
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lorenz-Schl%C3%BCsselmaschine
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kryptanalyse_der_Lorenz-Maschine

The aim was to simplify and automate machine encryption compared to
the cumbersome Enigma machine, and to achieve significantly higher
message volumes and transmission speeds than was possible with
manually operated Morse code. To this end, the Schlüssel-Zusatz (SZ)
was developed as an add-on device for a Lorenz teletypewriter. As is
usual with teletypewriters, the Baudot-Murray code (CCITT-2) with 5
bits was used for the transmission of 32 characters. The binary
representation is particularly well suited for the binary addition of
a pseudo-random key, thereby cryptographically implementing the
function of a mixer...

Starting in June 1941, the German Wehrmacht began securing its
telegraph communications between the highest command posts using a
newly developed encryption machine called Schlüssel-Zusatz 40 (SZ 40).
Above the Enigma machine, which continued to be used for tactical
communication, it served to encrypt strategic communications,
especially between the Army High Command (OKH), based in Wünsdorf near
Berlin, and the Army High Commands (AOK) in cities such as Vienna,
Rome, Paris, Athens, Copenhagen, Oslo, Königsberg, Riga, Belgrade,
Bucharest, and Tunis.

As early as the second half of 1940, British interception stations (Y
Stations) had noticed German radio telegraph traffic that sounded
distinctly different from the usual Morse code signals, and initially
gave it the nicknames “new music” and ‘NoMo’ for “No Morse.” A little
later, radio transmissions of this type were grouped under the code
name Fish. Due to a lack of capacity and resources, these messages
were initially given low priority and could not be deciphered.

....Presumably for convenience, the second time around he did not
enter the plain text into the teletypewriter identically to the first
time, but slightly abbreviated it. Right at the beginning of the
message, he did not write SPRUCHNUMMER (message number) as he had done
the first time, but abbreviated the word and wrote only SPRUCHNR. From
this point on, the two ciphertexts differed significantly, while the
plaintexts continued almost identically. The Germans did not notice
this, but for the British it was a “godsend.” Now they were in
possession of a so-called depth, i.e., two different ciphertexts based
on two nearly identical but slightly shifted plaintexts, both of which
had been encrypted with the same key. (In German technical
terminology, this case is also referred to as a “plaintext-plaintext
compromise.”)

This involuntary “gift” from the Germans allowed British code breaker
John Tiltman (1894–1982) at Bletchley Park in England to make the
decisive first breakthrough in SZ 40. After weeks of manual work, he
succeeded in determining the two slightly “phase-shifted” and almost
identical plaintexts. To do this, he calculated the difference between
the two intercepted radio messages and tried to insert probable words.
This enabled him to reconstruct not only the plaintexts, but also a
4,000-character section of the “pseudo-random” key. This ultimately
led to the exposure of the logical structure of the key supplement.
The combination of the two errors mentioned above proved fatal for the
German side, without them knowing or even suspecting it.

** CANADA. 2749 USB, Nov 9 at 0112 UT, S7 of YL in French. The
immediately preceding scheduled time for Canadian marine info
broadcasts per dxinfocentre.com is: 0040 UT VCO Sydney NS 550 watts.
Next one would be at 0140, VAR-9 Yarmouth (Halifax), 1200 watts. Now
in `season` we should hear more of these, also on 2598 USB from
further NL area, but none right now; if noise level permit (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. 17765-17770-17775, Nov 9 at 0127, S9 DRM noise. EiBi shows

** CUBA. 6000, Nov 9 at 0108, S9+30 of dead air in English? from RHC,
SAWA. Only other active frequency found at 0124 is 13780, S9 but JBA
undermodulated Spanish (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA [and non]. 6180, Nov 9 at 0110, RNA Brasil with some CCI QRM,
and 11780 is not on air. CRI via Cuba is scheduled on 6180 at
0100-0300 - and this probably explains otherwise unaccounted for CCI
to RNA  6180 Nov 6 at 0801 - Cuban transmitters are notorious for
running far beyond their scheduled hours, modulated or not (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 4765, Nov 9 at 0745, S9 Spanish music, as the R. Progreso
transmitter is obviously still on way beyond normal 0500*, very
unusual for it. But 5025 R. Rebelde is absent. Somethings always wrong
at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15233.0, Nov 9 at 1518, S6/S7 of dead air, or JBM? Obviously
RHC supposed to be silent on 15230.0, a slip of the finger in punch-up
error. Still at 1543, but it`s off by 1625 check. SAWA (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15140 wind howl S9+10 JBM in Spanish, Nov 9 at 1517. At 1519,
also found on 13780 S5 JBA // 11760 S9; something else? on 11880. At
1543 all // in music except 15233. At 1625 only 15140 & 11760 are on,
JBM? presumably weekly Sunday Esperanto from 1600. Something`s always
wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11880.00, Sun Nov 9 at 1931, RHC introducing Kriyol ``en FM e
Internet`` -- they don`t even know about this VG newish SW frequency!
S9+5/20 into Georgia SDR and fine modulation; only // is 15140 still
with windhowl. 11760, 13780, 15233 not on air now. Both should
continue for English after 2000 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CZECHIA [non]. 9455, Nov 9 at 0119, wild jazz S9+30/40 on WRMI.
Grid shows R. Prague not only here but also 7780 and 5050 during this
hour, unchecked. WRN A25 sked had Prague in English at 0000 daily, and
B25 shows it daily at 0100 now (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** FRANCE. 21660, Nov 9 at 1515, MiniTransAt marine weather from
Issoudun, just now starting English segment by heavily accented YL
voice. Poor signal and the OSOB. The winner should be reaching
Guadeloupe in next few days, but I suppose broadcasts will continue
until they are all safely in port (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

song. 1754 ``always-by-your-side`` promo. 1755 `Letterbox`, Cemre has
a fresh cup of tea, and away we go: 1) Mr Siddartha Pappajarjee
[sounds like], W Bengal: Is World Public Transport Day Nov 10 observed
in Turkey? NO! but has plenty, well-developed. 2) Fritz? ---?, Port
Alberni, Vancouver Island, Canada. 3) Anatoly Klepov, Moscow, Rus-DX
editor, report for November QSL, about Nov 2 at 1730 on 11660 - sic!
Wrong frequency, really 9660 as we are listening right now. If they
really QSL that, quite a collector`s item. Cemre does not notice the
discrepancy, altho a previous report was correctly for 9660 at 1730.
4) Satoshi Tanaka, Tokyo, a 62-year-old care? worker. 5) André? --?,
Russia. 1807 that`s all. 1808 theme (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 407 MCW kHz, Nov 9 at 0755 UT, HRU is back after missing a
few weeks, not since Sept 29 per RNA list: 25 watts at HeRington KS.
Also in daytime at 1626 UT, close enough for groundwave, 266 km = 165
statute miles, still not bad for 25 watts. Herington is ESE of Salina,
S of Junxion City. It`s typically a much stronger NDB than adjacent
404 HU, 25 watts in much closer HUtchinson KS, if audible at all
(Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2320 monitoring: confirmed Saturday
November 8 at 1830 on SW Gold Radio, Germany, 3975.003, S9/+5 into
UTwente.

From SW Gold Radio, Nov 8: ``Hi Glenn, FYI: Unfortunately we have to
cancel all of WOR's outputs after 1800 UT on 6160 kHz.

This is because of China on 6160 and 6155 until 2100 UT. After this,
MUF is rapidly going going down for European reception. East Coast of
the US was okay at that time on certain sensitive KIWI SDRs but
unfortunately WBCQ is putting us off starting on Oct. 1st. They even
produce severe heterodyne in the European mornings when we start at
0800 UT. We had the same problems years ago with WBCQ, until they
suddenly stopped transmissions last year. Before, we contacted Allan
Weiner a couple of times, and he assured us to correct the -70 Hz
offset of their 6160 kHz transmitter - nothing happened. We are
currently in negotiation with BNetzA (Bundesnetzagentur, FMO) in
Germany to consult FCC to put an end to violations to WBCQ's HFCC
registration and guidelines. Too much offset and way too much
bandwidth. We will report soon about the outcome. It is so sad, you
can't talk to the colleagues, and they think they are the kings of the
airwaves. Take my comments as you like, public or personal. 73s Andy
(Engineer, ShortwaveRadio from Winsen on the river Aller, Germany)``

So this means that 6160 is never on the air after 1800 UT any day of
the week, as in the Week 47 sked, probably already in effect.
Unfortunately there is not much frequency flexibility for licensed
German SW stations (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Confirmed Saturday November 8 at 2039 already underway on WA0RCR, 1860
AM, Wentzville MO, inaudible into the closest IL Kiwis with high noise
levels, but audible S8 in western TN at KM4RT; and ending at 2106.5,
so started about 2037.

Also confirmed Saturday November 8 at 2030 on WRN via WRMI 9395, S9+10
into Knoxville SDR. Meanwhile WRMI webcast of music only despite WOR
on System B sked.

Also confirmed Saturday November 8 at 2100 on WRN Europe stream.

Also confirmed Saturday November 8 at 2210 the 2200 on WRMI 9395,
S9+10 into Knoxville SDR.

Also confirmed Saturday November 8 at 2230 on WRMI 15770, S9+10 into
Maryland SDR; not on 7730 but still SMTV cult.

Also confirmed Saturday November 8 at 2230 on WRMI 17790, JBA S5/S6
direct but S9/+10 VG into Brasília SDR.

Also confirmed UT Sunday November 9 from 0429 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM,
S9+12 into KM4RT SDR in TN. The 0415v perfectly timed to coincide with
SNL.

Surprise! As I cross 7570 in my final late-night bandscan, Sunday
November 9 at 0730 UT, there I am! WOR 2320 playback is starting on
WRMI, S9+25/30. I soon find me also on much weaker JBA 7780, and S9+25
on 5850. Maybe also 7730 but too weak to be sure direct and the
computer is closed down for the night, no SDR checking. When we`re
back up by 1600, WRMI sked shows WRN at 0700-0800 on all these: 7730,
7570, 15770, 5850, 7780. WRN still has not put up B25 program
schedules a fortnight after into effect! 0730 is nowhere near any
previous known time for WOR via WRN. This and other monitored examples
make it quite clear that current scheduling is not just shifting
everything one real UT hour later. Ron Trotto, IL, also caught WOR at
0730 on 5850.

Master Control at WRN sent me their full B25 schedules, which have
now  been posted at the WOR iogroup. Indeed show a new time of 0730 UT
Sunday to NAm. The others remain as expected. To NAm Sat 1700, 2030,
Sun 0230, 0730, 1130, Mon 0230. To Europe: Sat 1700, 2100, Sun 1330,
2100. Next:

2000 UT Sunday IRRS SW via AM Italia 1323;
2100 UT Sunday WRMI 15770 to NE;
2230 UT Sunday SW Radio, Germany 3975 [resumes Nov 16];

** U S A. ``Re your UNID on 1580 with Mexican format, down here in the
South Pacific we are hearing KFCS Colorado on 1580 with such format
from time to time, which seems to confirm they run daytime power
overnight, at least occasionally. Regards, Bryan Clark, Mangawhai -
New Zealand`` Tnx, Bryan, that would be 10 kW ND day & night (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 4875 USB, November 9 at 0114, military-sounding traffic
net, only heard ``42-Oscar``? There is certainly no more Roraima to
object. Refer to my previous logs of 2024y and 2021:

U S A. 4875 USB, March 10 at 0109, Airforce MARS type net with NCS
asking about relays. Net designator: 4TX1 - does that refer to Texas?
Sounds familiar; yes, my previous log from 2021y: ``UNIDENTIFIED.
4875-USB, Oct 10 at 0046, MARS net designator 4IX7, and some
Airforce-type calls like AFZ4W#`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

From now and for an unknown time, at least for 3years, I will not use any radio except the remote SDRs for DXing. Recently wemoved from the village back to the city in a space that prohibits the use ofdesktop DXing, a place flooded by high levels of noise in the LMHF bands. Theradio is now used mostly for FM, for news listening.we run politically livelycondition with always very interesting twits every day ..
