Glenn Hauser logs December 12-13, 2025  View Printable Version

Logs
** ARGENTINA. 28460 USB, Dec 12 at 2310, LU7YE, calling CQ and working
a USA. QRZ.com: ``LU7YE Argentina flag Argentina, Gabriel "Gab" Dal
Pietro, Plottier, Neuquén - Patagonia 8316, Argentina`` (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** BRAZIL. 11780, Dec 13 at 0725, RNA is on already with music, S8/S3
and the SSOB (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** BRAZIL. 28395 USB, Dec 12 at 2306, PU2KNM in SP calling CQDX.
QRZ.com: ``PU2KNM Brazil flag Brazil, CLAUDIO, RUA:PAULO NEDOPETALSKI
215 BAIRRO ALTO DA TENDA, APIAI, SP 18320000, Brazil`` (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** CHINA. 9695, Dec 12 at 2300, Japanese but spelling out something
with English letters, strange behavior for onlything listed, CRI in
Japanese from Jinhua site. But was also hearing JJ just before 2300
when nothing is scheduled. Noticed as I was perfunctorily checking
whether Spain finally turned on its NAm frequency 9690? Of course not!
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 5025, Dec 13 at 0712, S9+25 of dead air in Spanish from R.
Rebelde: something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. 9710, Sat Dec 13 at 0723, S9/S4 of dead air, no doubt RHC
where something`s always wrong; maybe trace of some understation? More
likely on Sunday only Vatican in Ukrainian. One of few signals on band
besides USA on 9395, 9330 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** LUXEMBOURG. 6140, Dec 13 at 0715, S7/S9 of choral music and
talkover in uncertain language. Only thing listed is R. Gloria,
Switzerland on this recently activated low-power transmitter I was not
expecting to hear so easily; at 0600-1700 per Aoki, 0659-2100 per
EiBi, likely the latter (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** PERU [non]. 5980, Dec 13 at 0005, checking Lima SDR for any sign of
R. Chaski activity -- nothing but weak DRM not decoding but IDed as
TDF as scheduled (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960, Dec 12 at 2257, VOT IS & English IDs, S9/+10 direct,
2300 sign-on English. I don`t usually try this into Georgia SDR, but I
have it running anyway, so at 2346, S9+10/20, better but still not as
it should be in target area, `Did You Know That` yogurt was originally
made by Turx? 2353 recheck already in IS, 2356 German IDs but 2357.5*
chop, failing to provide any more extraneous German (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A. 414 MCW kHz, Dec 13 at 0721 UT, GRN, 25-watt NDB at GoRdoN
NE, new one for me (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 28222 CW, Dec 12 at 2301, beacon W1DLO/B, alternating slow
and fast sending, right on frequency rather than as in WGB list:
``28221.5 W1DLO/B - Calais ME USA FN65je - #0/1/2 (09 Dec 2025) Note:
VVV de ID + grid + Calais Maine + 9" carrier - 2 speeds CW``. QRZ.com
page has huge list of equipment, and: ``W1DLO USA flag USA, Daniel L
Owen, 27 Roundstone Dr, Glenburn, ME 04401-1209, USA

* 10m CW propagation beacon: http://qsl.net/w1dlo/beacon
You can find this beacon between frequencies 28.221 - 28.223 MHz with
the center goal being on 28.221.8 MHz. This beacon is located less
than 1,000 feet from the New Brunswick Canadian border which is also
right on the line separating the Eastern and Atlantic time zones. It
is also less than 10 miles north of the 45th parallel. (45 10'5"N, 67
14'39"W)`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 28450 USB, Dec 12 at 2307, says ``K6GIL`` over and over and
over, no other call, so is this his spoken ``beacon``? QRZ.com:
``K6GIL USA flag USA, GILBERT M "GIL" GARCIA, 79924 Memorial Place, La
Quinta, CA 92253, USA --- 73's and Mabuhay (Long live!) from Coachella
Valley`` Has accent so must be Filipino as Mabuhay is Tagalog (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2325 monitoring: confirmed Friday
December 12 at 2300 on WRMI 9955, S9/+10 direct, as always seeming
undermodulated compared to comparable signals. But not off the air
this week.

Also confirmed Friday December 12 at 2332 the 2330 on SW Radio Gold,
Germany, JBA S7 into UTwente, no better at recommended Bedford UK SDR,
but somewhat better S9/+5 at 2337 into Noale, Italy SDR I normally use
for AM Italia 1323.

Not confirmed UT Saturday December 13 at 0400 on WTWW 5085, rather
again replayed previous week`s WOR #2324, to completion followed by
5+minutes of music before shutoff. Once again I have asked them to
make it good by playing 2325 at the same time Sat or Sun night = UT
Sunday or Monday.

Confirmed Saturday December 13 at 1533 the 1530 on SW Radio Gold,
Germany, 3975.002-, S7/S9 into UTwente; and 6160.000 S7/S9 but heavy
ACI from China 6165.

Confirmed Saturday December 13 at 1630 on WRMI 9955, S6/S8 and noisy
into Maryland SDR. Next:

As a noncommercial public service program, financial support
appreciated. Thanks this week to Doug Brown, London, Ontario for a
check on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702, and
says, ``Thanks for all you do to keep our great hobby going (if only
on life support)``

One may also contribute, not necessarily in US funds via PayPal to:
woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Pre-`AAAWWW` chex of WBCQs, into W1NT NH SDR, Dec 13 at
*0055 when 5130 -25 Hz = 5129.975 cuts on like clockwork with The
Planet IS & ID loop, but it`s quite fluttery, very strange for such a
close signal. 32365 not on. 6160 - 50v Hz = 6159.95 JBA with algo.
7490 -20 Hz = 7489.980 JBA S3! with FKB as clearly on stream. 9330.00
on contrary is S7/S9 in Brazuguese. On W1NT it read out as 9330 - 50
Hz so I know that SDR must be miscalibrated. Yes: WWV 10000 also reads
out as -50 Hz, so I have corrected above readings by adding 50 Hz to
the figures axually showing in SAM mode. At 0100, concedes that
following will be repeat of original airing on January 3, 2025! Wonder
why they picked that one? Anyhow, never mind, see my report within:
https://www.w4uvh.net/ghlogs_2025_0102_0108.txt
Before quitting I find that it`s airing on all four now: 9330, 7490-,
6160- and 5130- (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15770, Dec 13 at 1604, NO signal from this WRMI direct, nor
into UTwente, nor into Maryland remote: must be off the air, unusual
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 550, Dec 13 at 0729 UT, KCRS promos atop, Midland TX, U4 5/1
kW. Supposedly nulls thisaway at night (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** URUGUAY. 28492 USB, Dec 12 at 2311, CX2TQ, Paul, with 40 watts,
QRZ.com: ``CX2TQ Uruguay flag Uruguay, (Paul) JOSE PABLO AMENDOLA
CARRASCO, RINCON 39, ROCHA - CP: 27000, Uruguay`` (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 810.57, Dec 13 at 0736 UT, JBA carrier hetting 810.0 WHB
varies slightly, now measured here (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 25995 LSB, Dec 12 at 2320, maybe Brazuguese but only a
few words recognizable, with beeps. Nothing on 25985 or 25955 heard
before with Brazuguese CBers? Freebanders? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Logs
** CUBA. 5025, Dec 12 at 0727, S9+5/25 of dead air in Spanish from R.
Rebelde. Often missing completely, but tonight, halfway there! SAWA
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15140, Dec 12 at 1520, RHC windhowl only, S8; 15230 JBA music
S3/S4; 11880 talk JBA S4/S5, maybe not Cuba. Still not hearing 13780
anymore at anytime. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. 15140 windhowl only and 11880 dead air, as usual, Dec 12 at
1959 tune-in, just in time for no English, from RHC, where SAWA. 15140
& 11880 the same at 2055 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. 660, Dec 12 at 0707 UT, ``Esto es ABC Deportes``, then,
what else? a song in English. Not the first time I`ve hit such a
non-ID in random tuneacrossing; must be frequent. I.e., XEFZ,
Monterrey NL, 10/1 kW allegedly, but dominating the channel now rather
than KTNN or anything USelse (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 93.1 & 95.1, Dec 12 circa 2030 UT, the dead air carriers
in $ tereo are still the same, peaking circa downtown Enid, and 1680
kHz Virtual DJ Radio continues to be JBA downtown but peaking circa US
81 & 412 junxion (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** U S A. 8992 USB, Dec 12 at 0736, USAF crypto exercise in progress,
starting with SXSCDI.... Too late to wait for another clever tactical
handle to be uttered (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2325 monitoring: confirmed first SW
broadcast, Friday December 12 at 1325 the 1300 on WRMI 15770, JBA
S5/S6 direct, but following program was more audible.

Not confirmed Friday December 12 at 2130 on IRRS SW via AM Italia,
1322.997, into UTwente, except for first few syllables: ``This is
Gl----``, cut and soon music fill, never to resume during the
semihour. I`ve notified IRRS HQ about the problem, so further repeats
can be OK.

** U S A. 4840, Dec 12 at 0726, dead air again from WWCR-3, S9+30/45.
Muted show sked now is `Renewing Your Mind`. But remodulating at 0735
when `Insight for Living` is on, the latter one quieted when last
noted deadair. WWCR`s hours of dead air pale in comparison to Cuba`s,
q.v. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 5980, Dec 12 at 1330, no signal direct, not even R.
Martí; still trying to confirm or replace a report of R. Chaski, Perú
before 1400 into Arizona. At 1500 however a JBA carrier, presumably as
in EiBi, CRI Japanese at 1500-1600 only via site x. Need to check
OA4DFF SDR especially in daytime during hours when Chaski might be on:
11-02 per WRTH, or 10-15 & 22-0103 per Aoki. Nothing there at 1705 Dec
12. IIRC Lima has a very quick timeout. And it`s labeled 6.5-30 MHz,
presumably meaning not so good below 6.5.

By 1515 a few other lingersigs on 49m, JBA carriers: 6075 CNR1 vs
Taiwan; 6145 several China and Taiwan; 6180 some Chinese JBA, again
both Taiwan and Chinees possible (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 6251 approx., Dec 12 at 0732 tones repeating, sort of
musical but presumably ute; tuned in USB but can`t pinpoint it. Same
kind of thing encountered again at the late hour of 1516 when an AM
carrier put it on 6250.6 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Logs
** BRAZIL. 11780, Dec 11 at 0753, no signal for RNA token English;
6180 is VP with music. Paul Walker, McGrath AK, says: ``Even though
most won't notice, 11780 Brazil is still operating at half power of 50
KW; they got new tube but they were no good so the old one back in
operation right now. They've been operating this way for a month. I`m
not a math guy, but someone told me its only 3db difference between
100 and 50 kW. I've noticed almost no difference up here`` (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2325)

** CUBA [and non]. 1040 kHz, Dec 11 at 0736 UT, whooper audible under
WHO. Quite some time since I`ve heard that anywhere (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. 15140, Dec 11 at 1550, windhowl only at S9+5; 15230 JBA
Spanish S4/S5; 11760 S5/S6 JBA or dead air. Something`s always wrong
at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11760, Dec 11 at 1953, S6/S8 of deadair without windhowl from
RHC direct. No other frequencies even on the air, making it even
easier not to broadcast English at 2000. 11760 still DA at 2001 into
Georgia SR, S9+15/22. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2325)

** NEW ZEALAND. 13755, Dec 11 at 0723, RNZP Melanesian, starting
Vanuatu news sponsored by a bank there: so is this officially a
commercial station? Only S4/S5. Used to inboom unlike anything else on
band, but not lately. This does not exactly match program sked for
this particular day, in UT +13:
https://www.rnz.co.nz/international/schedules/20251211

``8:08 PM. Pacific Waves
A daily current affairs programme covering the major Pacific stories
of the week, with background and reaction from the people making the
news.

8:28 PM. Melanesian Update
The latest news in Solomon Islands Pidgin (Tok Pisin), followed by
BuzzFM News from our partners in Port Vila, Vanuatu.

9:00 PM. The Wantok Program
30 minutes of news and current affairs from ABC Australia from Monday
to Friday in Papua New Guinea Tok Pisin, Solomon Islands Pijin and
Vanuatu Bislama pidgin languages.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 9025 AM, Dec 11 at 1554, FDR speech clips, narrative
about WWII, music bits, from a documentary, S8/S9 direct but audio
breakups. 1557 refers to his report about Yalta conference on March 1,
1945. 1559 mentions April 12, 1945 - the day FDR died and someone was
born, but then off the air before 1600. Searching frequency at HFU
gets several pirate hits in past few years: other presidential audio,
from JFK, Coolidge:

Switching to W5TSU remote, the only OK, in OKC, hears nothing more
during following hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2325)

** U S A [and non]. World of Radio 2324 monitoring: ``Richard Lemke,
St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, From the desk of Richard’s listening
Post, Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF, 1995, (30 years of service), Antenna:

As a noncommercial public service program, financial support
appreciated. Thanks this week to Doug Brown, London, Ontario for a
check on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702, and
says, ``Thanks for all you do to keep our great hobby going (if only
on life support)``

One may also contribute, not necessarily in US funds via PayPal to:

** U S A. 9265, Dec 11 at 1955 no signal from WINB, but it`s on at
2003, S9+33 into Georgia SDR. Program sked shows starting at 1900 UT,
but that`s a misconversion from 3:00 pm ET, really *2000 UT. America`s
oldest SW station still is clueless about UT (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

*** Lately I've been using individual receivers for each day's listening sessions (with the same antenna), in order to verify the performance of each receiver and antenna combination.
I live in the urban area of São Bernardo do Campo, São Paulo, less than 300 meters in a straight line from the Volkswagen do Brazil headquarters (were I worked for 35 years), with all its machinery producing hundreds of cars a day, an excellent generator of random noise 24 hours a day.
Today I used the Tecsun S-2000, connected to a 20-meter-long wire antenna, stretched 8 meters off the ground, above the roofline of the house.
Nothing to complain about! The S-2000 performed satisfactorily in a real test reception, presenting Adventist World Radio satisfactorily via Agat GUAM (15215), at one of the worst times of the day, that is, 12:42 local time, 15:42 UTC.
