Glenn Hauser logs July 10, 2025; World of Radio 2303 |

Friday, July 11 2025
** BENIN. 1566, which I remarked July 4 when hearing TWR`s other carrier on 1476, not being on 1566 in mornings, and still shown 1815-2145 only in MWlist, now *has* been reported in mv-eko of Arctic Radio Club: ``1476 23.5 0317 TWR Africa, Parakou-Serarou, lokal musik (1476.0019) TN 1566 23.5 0319 TWR Africa, Parakou-Serarou, kom upp under BBC (1565.9999) TN Thomas Nilsson, Ängelholm – Perseus SDR, two 12x4 m Flag-antennas, both reversible`` So 1566 *is* on in the mornings now, repossiblizing NAm DX reception. 23.5 was a Friday, in case significant (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2303)
** BRAZIL. 11780, July 10 at 0153, RNB/RNA token English, tuned in late via remote, talking about how RNA MW coverage reaches 1500 km at night; 0154 long credit list already and into Spanish. A repeat? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CONGO. 6115, July 10 circa 0500 & 0530, NO signal from R. Congo, certainly not direct vs my noise level, nor via remotes in S Africa, Canary, Portugal. We used to JB hear it before Japan would take over 6115, which in summer would be much later. Brazzaville own SR/SS are 0508/1701, and at latitude 4.25 south, vary little during the year. So if on, need to hear it ASAP in our mornings. Also not even a carrier at 1806-1808 into UTwente, two RSA and one Kenya SDRs. Andre in S Africa reported hearing it, with a recording, VP in French with mentions of Brazzaville. He doesn`t make clear the times, but recording indicates 1655 & 1707 UT: ``[WOR] Radio Congo back on 6115 kHz -- I heard Radio Congo again tonight, for the first time in two years. Not sure if they've been there all along and just wasn't heard widely, or if this is a return. Here is the video: https://youtu.be/EHjgsVvu8Tw Jul 9, 2025 -- In this video, I tune in to Radio Congo (6115 kHz) — a rare catch I haven't heard in almost two years! This state broadcaster from Brazzaville is listed as being on air daily, but it's incredibly difficult to receive from my location in Johannesburg, South Africa, and I haven't heard it since 2023. Was this a return to shortwave, or has it been quietly broadcasting all along and I just haven't heard it? Hard to say — but either way, this is a DXing highlight for me in 2025! The last time I heard it, was in September 2023. Transmission info (per listed schedules): Frequency: 6115 kHz Time: 05:00–19:00 UTC daily Language: French & local languages Power: 1 kW (with unconfirmed reports of a 50 kW upgrade since 2022)`` Surely it has been silent; not in current EiBi or Aoki. WRTH 2025 had sked as 0530-1830. Ron Howard also checked for it: ``On July 10, from about 0515 to 0615 UT, checked 6115 for Radio Congo reactivation, via various Africa & Brazil SDR remotes, but no signal anywhere. Guess we should check about 1700 UT?`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2303) ** MEXICO. 1140, July 10 at 0601, Mexican NA, choral. Must be XEMR Monterrey, 20 kW supposedly daytimer; used to have much better signal, 50 kW as still in WRTH. Two other XEs on 1140 believed silent, per IRCA Mexican Log. Axual location of R. Esperanza is San Nicolás de los Garza, NL (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA [and non]. I thought two different stations, but NRC AM Log shows KBHS is in Spanish, 5000/87 watts at night, with 106.3 of course a mere translator, K292HG, ``La Caliente``. But the town is not yet renamed Aguascalientes? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 810.54, July 10 at 0606 UT, still getting that mystery JBA carrier slightly variable, hetting 810.00 WHB. And there’s plenty of it; lightning strikes Earth millions of times every day. Although lightning is common, it’s also mysterious. The electric fields inside clouds don’t appear to be strong enough to power lightning. So for the past 90 years, scientists have pondered whether it might have a cosmic origin – cosmic rays – particles that ram into Earth’s atmosphere at almost the speed of light. Many of them come from the Sun. But the most powerful come from exploding stars, the gas around black holes, and other powerful objects in deep space. When a cosmic-ray particle hits an atom or molecule in the upper atmosphere, it creates a shower of other particles. And it’s these particles that might then zip through clouds, creating lightning. A study published earlier this year seems to affirm this idea. Scientists studied a thunderstorm over New Mexico with a sophisticated array of radio antennas. They traced more than 300 strikes from beginning to end, at intervals of less than a thousandth of a second. Among other things, the radio waves revealed that the bolts weren’t moving the way they should if they’d been sparked by the clouds themselves. Instead, the lightning seemed to be triggered by something coming from beyond Earth: cosmic rays. WTWW: George McClintock informs me July 9: Overcomer Ministry has agreed to stay on WTWW, 24 hours, presumably 9930/5920, at 70 kW. This may be the only SW coverage. Various repairs continue, which hopefully will make 5085 and daytime 9475 more reliable; and he says WTWW is open to secular shows such as music buying time (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. WBCQ: Hal turner, the far-right talker on WBCQ has just belatedly posted on website July 7 that he`s on 5130 instead of 6160: https://halturnerradioshow.com/index.php/news-selections/world-news/temporary-frequency-change And guess what, that is NOT the antenna HT is on, but World`s Last Chance, only for the SuperStition on 9330. Don`t you believe Hal Turner. Compare to this view of it; https://www.radioworld.com/global/wbcq-relies-on-high-power-shortwave-antenna I already noticed the change two weeks ago: ``U S A. 5129.9, June 24 at 0126 JBA signal vs HSNL must be WBCQ, which per own websked is not on the air at all on UT Tuesday!! At 0158 I check Maryland SDR, and hear Hal Turner wrapping up with a gold/silver commercial, whilst 6160- is off the air, but // 7490-. But by 0200, 5130- is playing the generic WBCQ s/off. Evidently Turner has been moved from 6160 to 5130. Why doesn`t the sked show this correctly? Not that I care to hear him anywhere`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 12050, July 9 at 1435, no signal direct from WEWN Spanish RCM; nor at 1538, 1600 into Lima SDR, which is getting Martí. Nor at 2116 into Maryland SDR. AAMOF, haven`t noticed 12050 in some time, random daytime and evening tunebys. Totally off? Had heard it near start and stop of registered span 1400-0600. Now would have no CCI, as Ndarason quit 12050, and nothing else scheduled (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report despatched at 0036 UT July 10 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/
