Glenn Hauser logs September 30-October 1, 2025 |
|
Thursday, October 02 2025
** CUBA. 13780 S5/S6 JBA, 11760 S8/S9 undermod Spanish, and 15230 dead air, Oct 1 at 1451-1452, RHC where something`s always wrong (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** EAST TURKISTAN. 15245.0, Oct 1 at 1514, CRI in English, S5/S6 with Doppler flutter, but the best signal on band, i.e. Kashgar for WEu this hour only. If you hear a signal around 15245.244, as I measured it May 31, it`s North Korea, long hours for Europe, supposedly also with English this hour, but no sign of it now (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ESWATINI. 9585, Wed Oct 1 at 1454, TWR tinkling IS S5/S6, Eswátini ID, 1455 music and language, listed as Malagasy on M-F, French on S/S. Probably long-path across Indian & Pacific Oceans (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** FRANCE. 17545, Oct 1 at 1512, JBA carrier direct; at 1519 into Maryland SDR, S5/S7 marine weather in English for Mini-TransAt (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. Don Moore in Illinois reported this to the MARE Tipsheet in September: ``On Wednesday morning I took the mobile DX shack to the Old School Forest Preserve in Libertyville, about a half-hour north of where I'm staying in Skokie. There is a picnic shelter there with no power lines within 250 meters so it is very quiet. I primarily wanted to check for the Oklahoma and Missouri secure net tests, which had been posted to UDXF. The Oklahoma net operates at 0900 a.m. local time and the Missouri one at 0930 a.m. local time. Primary frequency is 5140 with 7477 as the main alternate. Per the anmt, the Missouri net is only on the first and third Wednesdays of the month.`` So on the first Wednesday of October, Oct 1 I am tuned to 5140 USB just before 1400 UT. I do hear a number of checkins, but most JBA. All callsigns start with W plus 3 letters and 3 numbers. Generally given with fonetix, but poor reception and swiftness make them hard to copy accurately. First one has a good signal, WQBY?-something in Beckham County, such as Sayre near the TX panhandle border. Some YL voices, and first names mentioned such as Bill, as they apparently know each other. Fragments I could copy: Pottawatomie, county which is SE of OKC. 3921. WNCH624 Tulsa. WNBE830. Any additional checkins for Oklahoma Operational ----? At 1410, WQYK443, WPFY---, Ernie. Nothing heard after 1415 so I quit at 1417. At 1430 I have a JBA signal, presumably the Missouri net starting. Don has a lot more info about that, link to a 417-page pdf, slightly outdated from 2014y including around page 375: https://core-docs.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/documents/asset/uploaded_file/4319/CBM/3591786/complete_emergency_operations_plan.pdf APPENDIX 3 AUTHORIZED RACES FREQUENCY LIST DURING WARTIME EMERGENCY SITUATIONS In the event of an emergency that necessitates the invoking of the President’s War Emergency Powers under the provision of Section 706 of the Communications Act of 1934, as amended, only RACES stations and amateur stations participating in RACES may transmit on the following frequencies:`` All conceivable local, county, state and federal military and non-military agencies seem to be involved. I would sure like to get a current equivalent for OK. On UDXF, here`s an old log from Jack L. Metcalfe: ``5140.0 WPFY721, Oklahoma Emergency Management Agency EOC at the National Guard Armory, Seminole, OK as net control in a very, very weak weekly roll call. Stations heard, but just above the noise floor: 1401 UTC in USB voice (26/MAR/2014) (JLM)`` That was the 4th Wednesday of the month (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** POLAND [non]. 17790, Oct 1 at 2159, WRMI VG direct and // 15770 in gospelhuxter. 2200 they split, 15770 into Taiwan in Spanish, and 17790 again with Polish Radio External Service as sked on WRN. WRMI xmtr sked shows 17790 off after 2200, but System E WRN shows that hour on 17790 as well as 5050, 5950 and 7570, all of which are really OFF when checked into Georgia remote at 2223, while the hour-long PRES English still goes past 2233 on 17790, so is this an error or not? Anyhow this is much more listenable than Spain`s weekly English at clashing time due to fading and accent. 2204 news of a new refund/recycling program for containers, bottles of plastic, metal or glass with specifications; French climber of tallest building in Warsaw, Europe? 310 meters, charged for doing it without safety equipment, may get a year in jail - not much climbing there, I suppose. 2205 ID and News from Poland to continue another 15 minutes. Commenting on my previous PRES 17790 log, Uncle Bill Tilford says, ``Polish Radio, which I mention in my next Shortwave Program Spotlight {NASWA Journal}, deserves to be triaged in any WRN relays via WRMI. The nuances of Polish relations with Germany, Ukraine, Belarus and NATO generally are as intricate as they are sobering, and the station captures all that better than western media.`` Other PRES times on WRN N American stream, and maybe also on SW via some WRMI: daily 0300-0400, 0700-0800, 1800-1900 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** PUERTO RICO. 391 MCW kHz, Oct 1 at 0626 UT, DDP, 2000-watt NDB at San Juan/Dorado, Luis Muñoz Marín Intl airport, the only Caribeacon I ever hear - but not for a long time, last logged March 7; are there any others still active? Enhanced southerly prop, and local noise level low enough (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 17715, Wed Oct 1 at 2159, REE S9+10 direct, weaker than usual, and trace of 15390 only for weekly English from 2200. Still Marilyn Quintana only, ``live at 12 pm``; due to accent and fading, hard to copy clearly unlike Poland via WRMI 17790, q.v. She previews something about 17 weeks, Cervantes, Lebanon correspondent. 2202.6 starting news of week, tRump & Gaza. Maybe I`ll listen to podcast later (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 11785, Oct 1 at 2158, no signal direct from VOT. Not checked UTwente until 2253, maybe too late, yet locked onto 11785.011 until 2255* tho nothing but noise audible. Erroneous at Emirler? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 28250 CW, Oct 1 at 2210, slow beacon, READ BIBLE .-.-- DE KI6MTV/B - I`ve hunted and hunted for that middle symbol in Wikipedia and can`t find it: what`s it? Possibly combo of two letters not noticing a pause, like: RM or AW? WGB list: ``28250.0 KI6MTV/B - Shingle Springs CA USA CM98mq - #0 (06 Nov 2024) Note: ID only - Slow keying`` QRZ.com: ``KI6MTV USA flag USA, Michael R Hislop, PO BOX 121, SHINGLE SPRINGS, CA 95682, USA --- Hey, if you hear my beacon, (28.250 mhz) send me a message. I would like to hear from you. Don't forget to tell me the location where you heard the beacon. Thanks, Mike`` Shingle Springs is east of Sacramento on US 50 on the way to Placerville (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2314 monitoring: confirmed Tuesday September 30 from 2331.4 on SW Gold Radio, Germany, 3975.003, VP S7/S9 into UTwente. Also confirmed UT Wednesday October 1 at 0030 on WRMI 9395, S9+5/12 into Knoxville SDR. Also confirmed Wednesday October 1 at 1930 on SW Gold Radio, Germany 3975.000, S8/S9 into UTwente; and 6159.999-, JBA S8/S9 with RTTYditty on plus side. Also confirmed Wednesday October 1 at 2100 on WBCQ 7490-, S7/S9 into Maryland SDR; 2123 into NH SDR, S7/9+5. Also confirmed Wednesday October 1 at 2330 on WRMI 9395, S9+30/40 into Georgia SDR. Next: 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S; 1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160. Thanks to Gerald T Pollard, Raleigh NC, for a generous seasonal check marking autumnal equinox to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702. One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. 13605, 11930, 11860, Oct 1 at 1450 past 1500, NO signals from R. Martí/LV del Trumpismo - probably due to US government shutdown. Had been reliably on daily tho still abbreviated schedule. 11930, 9565, 7335, evening frequencies also absent at 2354; altho a JBA signal on 7335, presumably CNR2 from Baoji site as in Aoki (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 15150, Oct 1 at 1513, WMLK still missing; and after 2200 still missing from 17525 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 5286 USB, Oct 1 at 1355, some traffic net with abbr`d callsigns like 8BS, most others JBA in S8 HNL.
