Thanks this week for financial support from Wayne Davis,

``Please accept this long overdue token of my appreciation for your
decades of enrichment of our radio pursuit``

(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9330, July 17 at 0220, no signal from WLCR via WBCQ-6; but
there is an S5-S8 open carrier on 9333.0. I`ve heard that before, only
when WBCQ is absent, never a detectable het when it`s on, making me
think the two are somehow related. 7490+v still on nominally (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15610, July 16 circa 2000, WEWN English is still AWOL after
two weeks; also no 9385 at 0223 check July 17, while 5970 Spanish
continues (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2043)

Glenn Hauser logs July 15-16, 2020  View Printable Version
Thursday, July 16 2020

Logs
** BRAZIL. 11780, July 16 at 0021, RNA is S9+10/20 and again suptorted
with enthusiastic futebol? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. CNR1 jammer survey, July 15 at 1350: None heard in the WOOB
13s, 12s, 11s or 10s; depressed propagation today with K index of 2 at
1500, Solar Flux 69 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 13650, July 15 at 2321, suptorted Chinese music fill instead
of scheduled CRI Portuguese relay. On July 13, Rick Barton in AZ
caught this transmission carrying CRI English instead; July 14 back to
the usual. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. 13740, July 16 at 0020, RHC Spanish at S9+10/20 but JBM,
better than 11800 dead air. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6100, UT Wed July 15 at 0626, RHC `DXers Unlimited` final
repeat is just starting as I tune by, Arnie says for next 10 minutes
but really lasts only until 0633; reminiscing about his first ham call
once the Commies were in power, granted in October 1959, CM2DL, altho
he had been allowed to operate a friend`s ham station before then,
Elmer? I believe that CM- prefices were/are for novices; eventually
became CO2KK, which should not be pronounced in Spanish unless with
`kilo` fonetix. His slurred speech is not too disturbing today. Also
on 6145 but not much on 12200 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NIGERIA. 7255-, 9690-, 11770-, 15120, July 15 at 0620, VON cannot
be found on any of its known frequencies, at least three of which have
been employed recently for this Hausa hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9830, July 15 at 2158, VOT already on with IS and English
ID, S7-S9 but undermodulated, 2200 timesignal two seconds late, so
what good is it? Don`t you believe; sign on delayed or lacking
modulation at first. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2042 monitoring: confirmed Wednesday July 15
at 2102 underway on WBCQ webcast, after finding 7490+ a JBA carrier at
2100:21. Next, final SW airing:

0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE [JBA here a few minutes prior as
usual but should be good toward Europe]

Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts:
http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html

Thanks this week for financial support from Ron Howard, Monterey CA,
for a generous check in US funds on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box

who died in December 2012

PayPal not necessarily in US funds as they will convert.

Next WOR 2043 should be ready by early UT Friday July 17 for first
WRMI airing at 2200 on 9955 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VIETNAM [non]. 7315, July 16 at 0006, VOV English via WHRI is
S9/+10 but very under- to JBM (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** YEMEN [non]. 11860, July 16 at 0022 W&M Arabic dialog, S7-S9 and no
Cuban jamming audible, presumed Republic of Yemen Radio again on air
all-night via SA`UDI ARABIA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs July 14-15, 2020  View Printable Version
Wednesday, July 15 2020

Logs
** BRAZIL. 11780, July 14 at 0016, RNA is S9+20/30 but suptorted, as I
have previously noted July 11 at 0020. Strange that various other logs
of this make no such observation.

11780, July 15 at 0007, RN S9+10/20 again distorted and somewhat
undermodulated compared to // 6180 S9+10/20 louder and not distorted
but with slight squeal and carrier wobbling vs BFO, during Mexican
music, much stronger than 6185 XEPPM (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. CNR1 jamming survey, July 14 at 1340-1348, only JBA or JBA
carriers during depressed propagation conditions: 13160, 11460, 11440,
11120, 10960 best S1-S3, 10920, 10820 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 9783-9827, July 14 at 0615, heavy jamming centered on 9805
and spurs out to this 44-kHz range! Burying presumed RFI Hausa via
Issoudun this semihour only. Can the Jamming Command have heard that
and assumed it was Radio Martí? Which Greenville employs 9805 only at
10-13 UT. Such incompetence! Standard remarx (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2042 monitoring: I missed checking the Tue
July 14 at 0100 on WRMI 7780; did anyone hear it? Next:

2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE

Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts:
http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html

Thanks this week for financial support from Ron Howard, Monterey CA,
for a generous check in US funds on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box
1684, Enid OK 73702; in memoriam Brian Alexander, Pennsylvania DXer
who died in December 2012

One may also contribute via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com
PayPal not necessarily in US funds as they will convert.
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9955, July 14 at 1411, WRMI is still on in English with
Spanish accent, ``Free Cuba`` spokesperson talking about Taiwan, so
it`s certainly Freedom Synergy Radio, which is supposedly only on
webcast M-F at 1400 after 9955 closes (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9330, July 14 at 0613, WBCQ-6 is still AWOL, 6 hours after
previous check. What`s wrong? It`s on, in flat-earth English at 0246
July 15 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5970, July 15 at 0010 and still 0101, dead air in Spanish
from WEWN; 12050 is off already; English still AWOL from 9385 and
15610 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1280, July 14 at 2132 UT, KSOK Arkansas City KS amid music
with slogan ``From Motown to the British Invasion, the place to be is
103-3``. Huh? Am I tuned to wrong frequency? No, 1280 has just become
an unannounced appendage of paltry translator K277CK, which is
*supposed* to be secondary to the primary AM license. WTFDA Database
shows a different slogan, ``The Mixx AM 1280 and K277CK 103.3``. NRC
AM Log of last year showed ``The Mixx 103.3`` with CLR = classic rock
format: does that correlate completely with slogan I heard? Years ago
it was in AM stereo but I can`t tell now; NRC does not show it as $ .
While we`re at it, look at the few more AM stations around here with
at least mostly music format and a decent daytime groundwave signal:

780, KSPI Stillwater OK, rock, ``Pete 94.3``, named for OSU mascot
Pistol Pete, not exactly politically correct altho he`s a Cowboy.
Branded for a translator of course as the real KSPI-FM is separate on
93.9.

860, KKOW Pittsburg KS, C&W/polka, also IDs, secondarily! as 97.5 in
Joplin (MO) --- per WTFDA FM Database, that`s really K248DR, CoL
Warsaw MO, not Joplin. NRC AM Log did not show any FM. The real
KKOW-FM is separate, 96.9 in Pittsburg. Not with an -h.

Wait a minute: Warsaw is nowhere near Joplin, with 250 watts could not
possibly serve that city; Warsaw is 101 miles to the NE, closer to
Sedalia than Springfield, let alone Joplin. FCC FM Query has no such
station in Warsaw, nor that callsign anywhere. It does have a
different 97.5 translator in Joplin, K258BF without saying what it
translates!

But wait another minute: 97.5 is channel 248, not 258, so call as
displayed by FCC, K258BF is wrong. Possibly it was a move-in from
Warsaw? 258 would have been 99.5. Proper new callsigns for translators
changing frequency/city often lag behind the moves. A lot of
tail-wag-the-dog, AM-gotta-be-on-FM translator acquisitions are
accomplished by moving an existing license in from somewhere else
rather than starting from scratch.

900, KSGL Wichita KS, part NOStalgia, part gospel huxterism; it`s
IBOC, but too weak to hear much buzz aside 900 here.

1070, KFTI Wichita KS, C&W, listed by NRC as $ tereo and I know it used
to be; not listed for being significantly off-frequency-minus; as of
last October, mwoffsets had it on 1069.9773 --- no problem in the
daytime here, but at night its LAH is an annoyance to KNX et al.

1600, KUSH Cushing OK, Americana and talk. My favorite among the
bunch. With 5 kW ND daytime, radio-locator shows Enid, OKC and Tulsa
are all just beyond the distant contour but well within the fringe.

Everything else on daytime MW here is talk of some sort in English or
Spanish. I am not aware of any ``liberal`` or ``progressive``
stations. Gospel huxters of course may include some religious music
(Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs July 13-14, 2020  View Printable Version
Tuesday, July 14 2020

Logs
** CUBA. 11800, July 14 at 0015, RHC is S9+10 but JBM, even less so
the JBA parasites on 11790 & 11810. Something`s always wrong at RHC.

11630 approx., July 14 at 0018, S9+10 spurblob from 11670 RHC, no
program modulation but in AM mode, not FM, same tone as in background
on 11670 which is S9+10/20 and suptorted, this time closer to F
natural than F#. But no match circa +40 at 11710, nor multiples of 40
either side. Recently had some of those about x39 kHz from 11670.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 89.5, July 13 at 1930 UT on caradio, a signal on normally
vacant 89.5; promo for CSN and 1-800-327-4226? Into Allen Jackson
Ministries. MUF was not quite into FM when I left, but maybe it is
now? Soon fades out completely, as if it had been Es. CSN has
stations, mostly translators, all over out of HQ in of all places,
Twin Falls, Idaho. WTFDA Database shows ten on 89.5, all translators
or rather satellators, except for this full power one, which strangely
enough is not shown relaying KAWZ like all the others:

``KJCC 89.5 CARNEGIE OK 23.5 kW H&V, 118.8 m HAAT, 35-21-17 98-13-58
RELIGIOUS TEACHING CSN INTERNATIONAL``

That reminds me I have heard it before 3+ years ago, reported in
detail then with much of what I would remark about it and CSN again:
http://www.w4uvh.net/dxld1724.txt

Carnegie is WSW of OKC, where there is also a CSN 89.5 translator, or
157 km = 98 statute miles SSW of here, between Anadarko and Gotebo
(Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 9830, Mon July 13 at 2215, no signal from VOT
English to us, but plenty RTTY from NSS Annapolis. Something`s always
erroneous at Emirler.

But 9690 Spain has some nice classical music presented by Justin Coe,
finishing with a song for a Don Quixote play (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15610 & 9385, WEWN English frequencies: Glen Tapley,
frequency manager, replies July 13 to my inquiry about their
sesquiweek absence: ``Filament and cable repair. Should be back in a
day or two. Sent from my iPhone`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9330, July 14 at 0023, no signal from WLCR via WBCQ-6. 500
kW if really at full power, is often weak here way offbeam, depending
on rotatable azimuth, presumably huge in the boresight, but there
should be at least a carrier if it`s on. So we always wonder if there
has been another breakdown of some kind. AW has not been twitting
daily, latest ones of July 12, 8 and 5 and nothing about any such
problems, just promotion and photos (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 93.1, re my KRVN Lexington NE log by uncertain propagation,
Chris Lucas replies: ``On June 29 around that time, there was really
great tropo conditions out that way. Oklahoma City and Denver being
received on FM near Omaha; South Dakota and Western Nebraska reported
being received in Oklahoma City. In fact there were enhanced tropo
conditions in that region for a few days. Chris Lucas dtvdxer
Poughkeepsie, NY``

Well, there was no sign of anything else unusual here on the FM band,
just KRVN briefly overriding closer marginal 100/100 kW 93.1 in Pratt
KS, KHMY i.e. as a MY for Hutchinson KS (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 8990-USB, July 14 at 0022, weak 2-way sounds Spanish,
noticed as checking for 8989-USB blackwater fisherpreacher altho never
reported after 0000 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
