Please note and spread the word - for those not on a
list where my almost-daily all-band but mainly SW log

more convenient archive, weekly merged roundups
of all these reports in their original form are posted
early every UT Thursday via:

Glenn Hauser logs October 9, 2025; World of Radio 2316  View Printable Version
Friday, October 10 2025

Logs
** BRAZIL. 11780, Oct 9 at 0150, token English from RNA/RNB, S9/+10
into Bonaire SDR, and JBA if any on 6180 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 346 MCW kHz, Oct 9 at 0620 UT, dash and YXL, 1000-watt NDB
at Sioux Lookout ON, JBA. A good indicator of normal vs auroral
conditions when it doesn`t make it, but the most reliable of the
Canadians now. 1597 km = 992 miles (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. 21800, Oct 9 at 1404, JBA carrier with heavy Doppler
flutter, presumed CNR1 jammer of SOH. Is from western China / East
Turkistan, to propagate now and thus? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15140, Oct 9 at 1406, RHC music undermodulated with squeal,
S9/+15. At 1407, 15230 is S7/S9 in dead air; at 1409, 11760 S8/S9
music OK modulation; SAWA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2316)

** EAST TURKISTAN. 15410, Oct 9 at 1408, Chinese talk and music
mixing, S9, but maybe so in original programming rather than jamming
vs victim, S9 direct. Aoki shows CRI in Mandarin from Kashi-Saiba this
hour only; the radio war only until 1400 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 1230 kHz, Oct 9 at 0605 UT, my closest, WBBZ Ponca City,
manages to stay atop the graveyard pileup, ``Hometown Radio, WBBZ``.
Not a slogan in NRC AM Log, rather ``Sunny 1230``. Kraig Krist`s
exhaustive MW slogan list shows: ``1230 WBBZ OK Sunny 1230; Oklahoma's
Legendary AM 1230; 1230 News Talk``. I haven`t listened enough to
decide whether it`s one, the other or the other. radio-locator calls
it ``Newstalk 1230``. Linked website
https://www.poncacitynow.com/wbbz ;
also labeled Newstalk 1230. Year-by-year history until 2015:
https://www.poncacitynow.com/wbbz/history/
starts with:

``1927 – Charles Carrell was a pioneering theatrical and radio
entrepreneur. He owned a theatrical booking agency in Chicago and in
New York. Once he heard his first radio broadcast, he was hooked. He
applied for and was granted licenses for ten portable stations, and
arranged their financing. WBBZ was not one of the original groups, but
Carrell acquired it while it was located in Indianapolis. The call
letters, WBBZ, were derived from a slogan used to identify
Indianapolis — World’s Busiest Business Zone. All stations in the U.S.
at that time began with the letter “W”.

For a time, WBBZ toured the country with the Redpath Chautauqua
circuit, presenting programs of professional talent. Frequently, local
talent was highlighted along with the professional groups. Harry Kyler
managed one of the original ten stations for Carrell, WIBW in Topeka,
Kansas. From Indianapolis, he took WBBZ to the Broadview Hotel in
Wichita. Then, in 1927, Kyler brought the station to Ponca City for a
week-long test run at the Poncan Theatre. Kyler, impressed by Ponca
City, suggested to Carrell that a station be located here
permanently...`` (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 1062.88 & 1352.74, Oct 9 at 0610 UT, the TV set closest
to my NRD 545 puts considerable carriers on these frequencies when
turned on; they are 289.86 kHz apart. Is that a significant frequency
in TV set circuitry? At 1832, local mean noon Oct 9 I add and subtract
to check for other MW spots: yes, there they are at 1642.60 --- and
much weaker 773.02! So THAT explains the JBA non-TA carrier I have
been getting on 773. Next time if the TV be on, I`ll turn it off to
make sure. Next down would be 484.16 kHz, but nothing audible there.
The TV set is an Element, model ELEFW328, made in where else CHINA and
claims to be Part 15 compliant (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 89.7, Oct 9 circa 1540 UT, The House FM, usually $ tereo,
is mono into caradio. Its strongest signal here, I thought this was
the originating station, but comparing to 88.5, with Stereo icon, is
running about 8 seconds ahead of 89.7. WTFDA FM DB does show 88.5 KZTH
Piedmont OK 50 kW as relay of KJTH 89.7 Ponca City 100 kW, not vice
versa! (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** PUERTO RICO. 391 MCW kHz, Oct 9 at 0622 UT, DDP, 2 or 3 kW ND
beacon at DoraDo airport of San Juan. Perhaps I shall eventually quit
relogging it, but still enjoying is reaudibility after months unheard.
3676 km = 2284 statute miles (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 344 MCW kHz, Oct 9 at 0619, ND beacon JA: 400 watts from
`Dinns`, JAxonvil FL, per RNA list. One of my furthest domestix, about
one kilomile: 1648 km = 1024 mi. Local LW/MW line noise level remains
intolerable, but JB low enough to audiblize this as well as Canada,
and Puerto Rico, qq.vv. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2315 monitoring: confirmed UT
Thursday October 9 at 0130 on WRMI 5010, S7/S9 into NH SDR.

Also confirmed Thursday October 9 at 1636 the 1631 on SW Gold Radio,

Glenn Hauser logs October 8, 2025  View Printable Version
Thursday, October 09 2025

Logs
** ARGENTINA. 28477+ USB, Oct 8 at 2213, LU4DJB calling QRZ DX and
quickworking USAs. QRZ.com: ``LU4DJB Argentina flag Argentina, Natalia
Edith PEREGRIN, Nueve de Julio, BA B6500CIN, Argentina`` -- did not
sound like a YL (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 28197 CW, Oct 8 at 2202, 4 step-down-dashes, DE VE7MTY/B. A
major beacon signal but relogged for the record. WGB list: ``28197.0
VE7MTY/B - Pitt Meadows BC CAN CN89pf - #0 (22 Mar 2024)  Note: ID +
grid - HTX-100 Antron 99 pwr 25w`` --- QRZ.com: ``VE7MTY Canada flag
Canada, Martin W Hill, 19696 115A AVENUE, PITT MEADOWS, BC V3Y 1P1,
Canada -- QTH is 20 miles east of Vancouver, BC. I have been operating
a ten meter beacon since 1995 on 28.197 MHz running 25 watts. It
operates 24/7. The callsign is VE7MTY/B. The beacon uses a HTX-100
transceiver, an Antron 99 vertical antenna and a Freakin Beacon keyer.
At the end of the CW message, it steps through four, 1 second power
levels. 25 - 10 - 2 - 0.5 watts`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA [and non]. 11760, Oct 8 at 1433, RHC music S8/9+5 direct with
good modulation, unlike: 13780 S6 undermod music; 15140 S6/S7 UM mx
with usual squeal; 15230 S8/S9 of dead air. SAWA. Also at 1908 no
15140 or 11760, while JBA 13780 probably something else, Japan via
France at 19-21 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA [non]. 13605, 11930, 11860, Oct 8 at 1456 no R. Martí/LV del
Trumpismo signals; by 1557 carriers are on, and 1600 ID and start
programming; 11860 is best into my ATS-909 with clipon. So is 1600 the
standard sign-on time now? Still at 1852 with 13605 leading as usual.
Next check at 2157 all off already, so when are they QRTing now? nor
any evenings like 9565, 7335 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** POLAND [non]. 17790, Oct 8 at 2200, S9+10/20, WRMI starts PRES
English via WRN but chops off the air after one sesquiminute: pretty
clear that if there be any more, it`s accidental (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** SPAIN. 17715, Wed Oct 8 at 2158, REE JBA carrier direct, so we`re
out of luck for token weeklEnglish; even weaker JBACs on 15390, still
reactivated 15520 for ME but insuff backwards for us while `our`
frequency 15500 is still absent. At 2248 I try to confirm at least
that the English hour happened, but NO signals on any frequency into
NH, UTwente, nor Canarias SDR, but the latter is not getting much of
anything (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.004, Oct 8 at 2157 no signal yet direct from VOT, but
on by 2159 with IS & English IDs, S9+10/20 yet insuff vs noise level.
At 2253 into UTwente when measured, S9+5/15 at s/off, 2254 IS sounding
louder than preceding voice, 2256 pause and restart IS with extraneous
German ID, to 2257* Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 28203+ CW, Oct 8 at 2204, VVV K6LLC/B --- not in WGB list
but QRZ.com: ``K6LLL USA flag USA, Thomas N Hobbs, South Orange
Amateur Radio Association, PO BOX 2545, Mission Viejo, CA 92690, USA.

(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2315 monitoring: ``Richard Lemke,
St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, Fromthe desk of Richard’s listening Post,
Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF Since, 1995, (30 years of service), Antenna:
random long wires in the trees. WRMI, World of Radio (#2315):
9395 kHz, empty signal, 2300, 2329, October 5 UTC 2025
9455 kHz, S9 signal, heard everything, 2330, 2345, 2358, 2359
(4-55433), (45433), October 5 UTC 2025
9395 kHz, 0031, 0043, 0057 (45433), 0059, October 8 UTC 2025
9395 kHz, 2330, 2345, 2359, S7, S8 signal, October 8 UTC 2025
(Lemke, Richard -AB)

Confirmed Wednesday  October 8 at 2100 on WBCQ 7490-, S9+5/15 into
Vermont SDR.

Confirmed Wednesday October 8 at 2330 on WRMI 9395, S8/9+5 into NH SDR
with some OTH radar QRM roughly 9385-9410. Next:

0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;
1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160.

Many thanks to Jim Snow, St Simons Is., Georgia, for a generous check
to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702, and says: ``Dear Mr
Hauser, I am sending this donation to help continue your great work in
promoting our hobby!``

One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to
woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15150 & 17525, Wed Oct 8 at 1856, WMLK off and off. SAWA
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 780, Oct 8 at 0642 UT after conclusion of 2-minute StarDate
from 0640, WBBM Chicago announces time as ``1:45`` - don`t you believe
it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1140, Oct 8 at 0633 UT ``1140 AM & 96.1 FM, NewsRadio WRVA``
from Richmond VA, atop anything else, unusually - and gives top
billing to original AM! Unlike so many - WBBM, WSB, etc., etc. (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1520, Oct 8 at 0638 UT, C&W music at equal level QRMing
KOKC, conveniently IDing right away as ``Classic Country KRHW`` -
that`s Sikeston MO, U7 5000/1600, also 5000 for Critical Hours. U7
means three different direxional antenna patterns. Sikeston is south
of Cape Girardeau; radio-locator, not NRC AM Log, shows address in Mt
Vernon IL, not very close but connected via I-57. Night pattern is
very tight N/S, not including Mt Vernon:
https://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=KRHW&service=AM&h=N
Day pattern is much broader but supposedly with a notch toward OKC
https://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=KRHW&service=AM&h=D
CH pattern is N/S but not so tight as at night:
https://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=KRHW&service=AM&h=C
None of these explain why it should be as strong as KOKC in OK.
Normally is unheard at night, but have heard it before, see Feb 20,
2025 at 0745 which reads almost the same as now (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)
