I
visited Radio Quito a month ago and the manager of the station
told they intend to keep the shortwave running still for years,
but this of course depends somewhat on the maintenance of
the transmitter which is pretty old.
According to him, running on short wave doesn't cost too much
and they do have a short wave audience also within Ecuador,
but should there be a bigger failure, no one knows what then.
Hopefully this is only temporary.
The station will celebrate its 60th anniversary on August
18, 2000.
